As an artist, I've always been fascinated by color. In my twenties, I did modeling in Pittsburgh and learned professional tips and tricks for makeup application and skin/body/hair care. Thank God my husband is a patient man--I probably own more beauty items than most stores sell!

My Beauty Secret:
Beauty begins within and I'm a huge believer in healthy eating and vitamins to look and feel good. The best way to glow is to enjoy life, count your blessings, flash a "killer" smile, and then hand over the makeup and no one will get hurt . . .
My Routine:
As a teacher at a high school and college, I have little time for makeup application and touch-ups. I'm quite fair and look ghostly without color, so I gravitate toward easy-to-apply, no-fuss, long-lasting products and primers to hold color in place. In order to prepare for school, I've pared down my routine to about fifteen minutes (okay, a tad longer). If I'm going out to a special event, then I pamper myself (shame on me--sometimes two!). I follow all the tips I learned when I used to model and employ brushes to define and create magic, as they are akin to trading in a child's large crayon for a fine-point pen. I brush my brows upward and out for a wide-awake look and always use a lip liner and brush for my pout. I tend to every detail and make sure that I never pull on or tug my delicate facial tissue. It is more sensitive than we know!
My Horror Story:
I had the world's worst (okay, almost) beauty experience. A stylist loved my auburn hair and suggested that I strip it and enhance the color with dye. As an idiot, I followed his advice and looked like Debby Harry or Billy Idol. Worse yet, my long, gorgeous tresses were burned and resembled straw at best (my nephews were very young and laughed and said, "Look at Aunt Gigi!"). Help! I went to another salon and they spend eight (count 'em) hours trying to dye my hair to a natural hue but couldn't. So they cut, dyed, cut, dyed, and I was left nearly hairless and used colors with red and yellow bases--guess the rest. It turns green! I actually cried like a baby. My students at that time asked, "Mrs. DePascale, do you know your hair is green?" (Um, yes, it's my hair!). I was so annoyed that I stood in front of the room and sang "It's Not Easy Being Green." I can't believe I did that!
My Celebrity Look-a-like:
I've been compared to Jaclyn Smith and am humbled; the woman is utter perfection!
Yes, this has a cult following and is one of the most widely purchased mascaras around the world, with good reason. It separate and defines lashes in a natural way. People don't see repugnant spikes--only lush fringe. Application is incredibly easy and I've never had one clump with this magical formula. The waterproof version does what it says. Check out Lancome--this comes in other complimentary shades besides the universal black.
Yes, I love pricey but it doesn't love me. This is one of NYX's newest palettes for smokey eyes at a fraction of the price ($8.00-$9.00 at www.cherryculture.com). The powders are soft and pliable, blend without effort, and leave you smoking! The "Runway Palettes" will put you on a Paris catwalk for a pittance. I am stunned at the quality of NYX but, hey, I'm not complaining about the cost. Give these a try!
Fall in love with mineral shadow! I used to lean on Bare Escentuals' only as you can build coverage and blend flawlessly, but I purchased a plethora of very generous samples in containers, not bags, from Pink Quartz Minerals on Etsy. The owner put together fantastic shades for me as I couldn't quite decide on what I wanted--I wanted them all! They are mess-proof to apply and there is no annoying mineral dust over your clothing. The hues come in matte, shimmer, and opalescent, light to sultry dark. Stay subtle for the day and turn yourself into a sexy drama queen later, a "come-hither" beauty. The color stays put! The trial sizes are a Godsend, as you don't need to purchase each one sepa
