Jasmine Simone here! I love essential oils - they are so nurturing to my skin and have done wonders for scarring, dryness and other skin issues I have had in the past. Recently I discovered the wonders of Argan oil. So what exactly is argan oil you may be wondering? Only found in a few countries, Morocco being the main one, the argan tree oil is revered for it’s numerous nutritive, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. It is pressed from the seeds of the argan tree fruit and has been used for cooking and cosmetics for centuries before modern times (dating back to before the Phonecians.) Presently, argan trees are near extinction due to severe drought seasons and over use for of the trees for wood over the past 50 years. They are now a protected species by UNESCO and must be harvested sustainably to preserve these ancient tress that can live up to 200 years.

L’Heureux chose the name Kahina as an homage to the Berber queen (Berbers are the indigenous people in North Africa) and prophetess who reigned in Morocco circa 700 CE and “a heroine to the Berber women, Kahina represents empowerment and vision for women worldwide.” And that is exactly what founder, Katherine Phillips L’Heureux, was inspired to do when she created this line of products after a visit to Morocco brought her into the world of Berber women, who subsequently revealed to her the amazing, versatile properties of argan oil. Kahina works with the local women to provide them with a viable and sustainable way to make a living which subsequently improves their way of life. Taking it a step further, Kahina also sources rare essential ingredients from women’s cooperatives around the world, and donates 25% of their profits to support initiatives that improve the lives of impoverished women around the world.

When I hear "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow I can't help but think of the first time I went to sleep-away camp.  Particularly, the day I commented on the sunbathing girls being so shiny (it was because they were covering themselves in baby oil) I was made fun of the rest of the summer. I just asked a question, "Why are they shiny?". 

Am I the only one who has strong memories that get triggered by scent? I recently tried a shampoo called Grandpa's Wonder Pine Tar. Now there's nothing in a name "Grandpa's Wonder Pine Tar Shampoo" thatscreams "hip and cool" like, Thermasilk, Bodacious, Infusium 23, Salon Selective, Finesse or that sound exotic like Garnier Fructis Shampoo.

You've all been so good with our contests! It's one of the things we all love about megsmakeup, how responsive you all are and how wonderful it feels to be part of a community. You really amazed us with the hair disaster stories you shared and we kept reading them and laughing SO much, you don't even wanna know. It must be pretty hard for you to share a "how I got bold" story knowing that there are a few hundreds of women out there that are going to laugh their asses off. But you still shared and that's very brave of you and that's why we love you!

BabyLove here!  I'm so sorry I missed you all last week, but I'm on vacation in Florida trying to get a break from the 30 degree weather in Boston. It's been 75 all week, and I'm loving every second of this before returning to the miserable northern winter that awaits me.
Our next topic! While not as glamorous as ice cream smelling shampoo, we must talk about the unpleasant topic of head lice. I'm 28 years old (just shy of 29), and I'm wondering: how many of you ladies remember lining up in grade school and heading down to the nurse's office for a head lice check? It was always the most horrifying day at school, especially for the poor kids who had it, and I remember thinking, even at 10, that there had to have been a more discreet way to handle such an embarrassing situation. It was like the college "walk of shame." I never had head lice, but I  had friends who did and were forced to stay out of school until their head was "cleared." There's no denying it, head lice is super gross. However, it's not just something that "dirty" kids get, and thankfully, there are ways to prevent it. And yes, for all of you Megheads who must know, while I never had head lice, I have had to do the "walk of shame." As I was doing my product research for megsmakeup.com, I knew that I had to get my hands on some preventative head lice products. Circle of Friends, a fantastic company with great children's bath and body products, sent me samples of their preventative head lice shampoo and leave-in conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner are gentle enough to be used everyday, or just when an outbreak hits your town.
