Words and Writing
I am going through a stage in my life where I am finding inspiration when I write. I just read Goodness Granny, and can relate so much to the power of "words". You can read them and feel them at the same time. They are powerful and have energy when used in the proper format. Ever since I have started writing here I am finding I feel better when my views are expressed and I absolutely love all the wonderful feedback I receive. I am wanting to take a creative writing course. I have always wanted to do this. My dream would to become a writer. When I envision myself I would be tremendously fulfilled to write a column for woman. I would want to start by writing without making a profit just for the sheer confidence it could give me. Has anyone taken a creative writing course? Did it help? Did you enjoy it?Artcandy

I have not, but I say go for it! (It'll depend on a lot on the instructor).Since you don't mind starting out without making a profit, maybe start a blog! I'd read it :)

I'm so happy that you seem to be finding yourself via this site. I truly believe that one should follow their passions, otherwise they will never be completely fulfilled. I haven't taken a creative writing class since high school, but through my education classes, we have done quite a bit of creative writing. After years of writing research papers, it took me awhile to find my creative side, and to start using adjectives again. You should totally take a creative writing class at your local community college, you might find that it will open new doors for you. Follow your heart!
Go for it! I took a creative writing class my first year of college. It was a little difficult to write a short story (15ish pages) off the top of my head, but the other assignments like writing poems and smaller pieces were easy.I say do whatever makes you happy :)
You know whats funny is I didn't even think of blogging. I notice a lot of people are doing this. Is it a creative outlet for those of you who do it? What is the main purpose? I hope that the people who have blogs don;t mind me asking but I love feedback and am genuinely interested.Artcandy

I minored in English. Creative writing was always my least favorite assignment, though. But I think it's a great outlet for a lot of people. Minoring in English teaches you just enough to realize how much most people mangle the English language. It does have practical uses, however. Just today I had to write a report on a minor fraud a customer attempted to perpetrate, and the police officer was amazed at my concise yet detailed reporting. So despite the fact that I am engaged in a career with no relation whatsoever to my major, my parents can take comfort in the fact that my minor occasionally comes in handly. So that 30-40k they spent to educate me was not wasted after all.
Robyn-there are lots of reasons to blog :) I just started a blog, and it's pretty loosely focused. It'll be about my interests: training for a half marathon, makeup, fashion, art/design. For me, the purpose will be getting feedback, finding support, and just to share the information with others. It would probably be better for me to do separate blogs on each topic, but I'm just getting started so I don't have enough material at the moment nor do I want to commit to that many blogs, so I'm just doing a little bit of each, all thrown together. My (unsolicited) advice would be to find blogs that you like and then you can kind of model yourself after them. :) I subscribe to tons of blogs to think about the things I'm interested in, and to look for inspiration. I hope that helps...

Marilyn a.k.a. bluedevilkitty,I love your blog. And your ideas of what your doing. Can you go to the blog site and do it for free? Your pictures are beautiful. I stared at the ones of the leaves and the cotton fluff. I also love the way you put on the ink pen icons. Artcandy

hi robyn, Thank you very much for the compliments! :) It's so nice to have people appreciate my work :DAnd, yes weebly (my blog site) is totally free! wordpress is another great blog site, very popular, and there are tons of beautiful free layouts that you can import the CSS or something like that :P I'm kind of thinking of switching to wordpress b/c it's so wellknown and has so many features...The ink pen icons are actually a freebie from SpoonGraphics, a design blog that I love.A few other free blog sites: blogspot, xanga, livejournal, wix, and freewebs.

I have a blog with blogspot to. I haven't written anything in a long time though. When I go back to school to become a dietician I'm going to start writing regularly about that.
Anybody intrested in writing their own book-I just came upon a site the other day called http://www.blurb.com/ -where you can choose format, size, type, colours etc of your book-you arrange it the way you want and they send it in a published format to you,you can even out it up on the site for sale to other readers-there's lots of examples on there.

potionprincess--I've used blurb before and really like it! I also have used createspace (it's an Amazon company, so if you use them as your self publisher, your book can be listed on amazon!) I used blurb for some bound portfolios I made, and createspace for my book "Invisible Children: The Third Generation of Agent Orange Children in Vietnam" (more info on my website: http://mtycer.weebly.com/invisible-children.htmlLulu.com is another decent option. I've used them before as well.

Bluedevilkitty and potionprincess, Thanks for writing about all these sites to do a blog on. I have been so busy I have to be honest I just found these replies. I wish when someone commented on a post that we would get it as mail....sometimes we write and then the postings gets lost. Oh well, still LOVE this site. Just have to remember to check what we write about. Thanks again for all the valuable information. I wrote a book for children, and I would love to have it published. ( This may be a good way to go about it.) Artcandy

I take classes at the local community college, but never creative writing. Taking classes is a great way to keep your brain sharp, make new friends, and learn something new!Good luck!
A creative writing class is a great idea. Try to get one online from a local community college. Cheap and you don't have to sit through hours of lecture!!

King taco, thanks for your comment. Your right about taking classes, when I read that, I thought to myself... that's what I need. Something to keep my mind sharp and also to find inspiration like what I get on here. Artcandy

I think Creative Writing classes are great for getting your fundamentals in but DON'T LET them squelch your creativity. I've found most of my creative writer teachers weren't all that talented really and seemed to take pleasure in trying to dumb down my stories. But do it...for the experience and the correct grammar. Then go blog and get those juices going!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
