I bought a rusk flat iron cause I use the rusk speed freak blow dryer and love it. However, I am not feeling the straigtner. My sister has a Chi, and I'm thinking of switching over. Does it really make that much of a difference?
I have a heat controlled Chi that I ADORE!!!! I even use it to curl my hair (there is a special technique for this, its not just wrapping ur hair around the iron as if it were a curling iron). A LOT of people compain that their Chi's break but it seems like the company is pretty good about replacing them. I have had mine almost a year and it hasn't given me any problems. As for whether or not there is a difference in the brands, HELL YES!!! A cheaper flat iron is NOT going to straighten your hair the same way and can be damaging to your locks! An expensive flat iron is a good investment!!
The rusk iron I bought wasn't cheap, but I not sure what type of plates are in it. But for whatever reason the Chi my sister has works so much better on my hair.
I rarely straighten my hair in the summer, because the humidity makes it kind of a lost cause, but I bought the most expensive CHI you can buy, thinking it would be the best one, and it's not that great. It's pretty good, but all my friends rave about it so much, I was expecting amazing results.
The bottom line is that they all cause some damage to your hair, heat always does, no matter how controlled, but if you use a heat protectant before you iron, and get regular trims and regular conditioning, you can usually keep it pretty healthy. But I do love the look of my hair when it's all straight and shiny. Everyone else tells me to leave it curly, so I don't know why I bother.
I use a HAI iron. It's quite expensive. $276.00 but if you know anyone that is a hairdresser you can save as you pay their cost. ( I always give them a bit extra for the hassle, and to thank them). It would straighten out anything...( I'm serious I've even straightened out wrinkled clothing)! My boyfriend dropped it once and the blade popped out. I almost had a heart attack.lol! but he bought me a new one. Artcandy
I use a GHD (review in my profile) which I loveeee. They are very expensive, but I see it as an investment in great hair :) Also, be wary of cheap ones on eBay etc, there are a lot of counterfeits.
I use a Remington Sleek n Curl iron.. not terribly expensive (about $30 at Target), and it works wonderfully on my insanely thick curly long hair. One or two passes is all it takes to straighten it.
This may sound cliche.. but I love my CHI!It took one use from a friend's CHI to feel the difference. No other flat iron got my hair as a straight as a CHI does. Every other flat iron made my hair look dry and brittle and frizzy and puffy (they were all from like Wal-mart and Target.. even $60 ones).
I use a HAI Convertible Flat Iron. It's not as smooth as it could be (any tips on making it run more smoothly through my hair?) but I love its looks - its black with blue plates, very classy :D It also curls nicely, so that's always nice.
All in all, though, I want to try a CHI!
I have a wet-to-straight one. Works pretty well. I'm happy with it.When it breaks I will probably buy the coveted GHD.But I doubt it will break down soon as I use it like twice a year!!
The GHD is amazing and they have there own range of styling products and sometimes they do specials where you get a cute bag with brushes or styling products, also sometimes you can get a limited edition one thats hot pink and a big chunk of the money you pay for the pink one goes to charity.
My Chi broke after a few weeks. Thankfully, ULTA allows exchanges. But, it is the Chi Ultra and it doesn't have heat settings. This really sucks since my hair is just poofy and slightly wavy and I don't need that much heat! Compared to my old HerStyler (from a mall boutique and $100) it is great. I didn't know before, but it was frying my hair!! The GHD is supposed to be great, and even Revlon and Conair get glowing reviews.Hope I Helped!
most stylists i go to use the chi on my hair. i bought a FHI b/c a friend told me they were better. i probably got the wrong one. i hate it. after this im breaking down and getting a GOOD chi.
I have a GHD, which is great. Like any flat iron it's going to destroy your hair if you don't use a heat protectant though. :PAll the stylists here use GHDs, they never seem to use anything else!
yea, I wish I would have just bought the Chi in the first place. I just figured cause it was around the same price it'd have similar results. Thanks for the advice!
I have two flat irons. I have a Paul Mitchell professional -- I got it from my stylist. I have the "in styler" -- yes the one on the infomercial. I got it as a present from a friend. I have THICK hair and like them both. But, probably like the "instyler" best! (You can also use this with wet hair. However, I have not tried that. The concept scares me.) I know it is hard to believe that I like the infomercial one better. But, the truth is the truth. Both of my flat irons have temperate control. Good Luck
Yes-Ulta is pretty good with exchanges. A lot of the brands also offer a warranty, but you usually have to have the receipt or other paperwork that is not always easy to hold on to.
Thank you for the advice!
I bought some flat iron (Im not sure what the name brand is, Im pretty sure it's no name) for like $20.. And it's amazing.Id advise that you stay away from Conair though, they dont even get hot.
So, I went out today and bought a Conair "ceramic series" flat iron. It just looks like the Chi and has ceramic tiles, too. I just wanted to try out how the flat iron would look on my ends...whether I like it or not...so I grabbed one that was on sale for 15$, lol. If I like it, I will go buy the Chi or a ghd..but for now I give this a try. With heat protection spray the damage should be not as bad, don't you think?
A friend of mine had a CHI, and it broke within a year of her buying it.I use a under $20 Revlon straightener. I also have a $40 wet to dry straightener that's seen better days :P They work well enough, but I try not to straighten my hair too often anyways, or use too much heat on it.
I need a new flat iron too. But everyone I get won't stay hot. I always end up having to take lots of breaks in the middle of straightening my hair to let the iron heat up again.Anyone know of any that reallly stay hottt?
I've been looking to buy a flat iron for awhile now. I have straight fine hair but it looks better when it's straightened. I was thinking about the GHD but maybe I'll get the chi instead. Much better price.
i have a ghd and i honestly cant see what the fuss is about. I rarely straighten my hair anymore as it kills my hair. When i use it with the ghd protection spray, my hair looks pretty but its so expensive to buy when it doesn't last two minutes
I had a Chi but it kept breaking down every few weeks so I just ended up returning it!
I went to Walmart and picked up a 20 dollar Remington Wet to Straight a year ago and it is still giving lovely results!
I have a babybliss ceramix pro, and I love it. I have curly thick coarse hair and it is so shiny and smooth afterwards I can't believe it. I bought mine at Tjmax.
I have a BabyBliss Pro Nano Titanium. It rocks. It was expensive. I think $150. I have thick, coarse, wavy hair that is super smooth after use. This one has a temp setting up to 475.
i have one by Solia. I bought it from http://www.folica.com and it was one with great customer reviews and it was under $100. I've had it for around 4-5 years and it still works like new.
I have a Sedu and I love it. I straighten and curl my hair with it. I got it from Folica.com It is the greatest flat iron ever. So glad I decided to buy it. It was about $130 it would have costed more but they had a special code to get a discount.
My hairdressed used a chi on my hair once and it was enough to win me over!I have my very own chi and I love it!!!!I dont use it daily. Just special occasions and when I want something different.I have thich culry unruly frizzy hair. And my CHI transforms it into sleek style!
I use a brand called Cortex. I go it at one of those straightner booths in the mall, and it's really good. I have pretty thick hair, but this straightener foes up to about 400 degrees farenheit. It only takes about 2 minutes to heat up and I have had it for 4 years and it still works great. Also, it works really well at curling to. I haven't seen too many around but a simmilar brand is curioless or something like that, and it works really well also.
I had been alternating between a CHI and another one, but I just got a GHD and it's far, far superior to any other I have tried! I had my stylist get it for me at her cost, but it would have been well worth it even if I had paid retail. One thing I have started doing is putting oil on the ends before I iron it, even with my flat iron protecting spray. It really helps minimize the damage.
I have a chi and and a fhi, and frankly they're about equal. I have a chi original 1", and an fhi platform 1". My chi is like 3 or 4 years old and still works great, but my friend gave me my fhi for my birthday last month, and it's awesome. I reviewed it on my blog. Sally Beauty is selling FHI brand now, so you may be able to get a good deal on one.
I have a temperature-controlled 1" CHI that I love. I did heed the warnings by the other ladies on here that they break alot, so I kept the box in case I need to return it. So far, it's been a great investment.
I used my nease's flat bedhead Iron and loved it so my mother bought me one and it was a Bedhead but didnt like it as well so I went to sallys and bought one they had on sale was 59.99 but only had to pay 29.99 and it is a Belson Pro and I love it ....
That's a very good question!I'm right about to buy a flat iron for my ends too, but am still undecided about which brand I should get.

I guess I'm still giving the Chi a try...hair damage prevention is a big issue for me!! That's worth the money, definitely.

I wasn't meaning the rusk iron was cheap. I was just referring to other, cheaper irons as opposed to the Chi.
I use the 1" ceramic chi. I swear by this flat iron and will never use anything else.
