Undereye concealers
Sat, 05/30/2009 - 2:53pm
Hi All,I have dark circles (and bags) under my eyes. I have quite a collection of various concealers and would be interested in knowing your favorites. I think the best for me so far is Bobbi Brown and also Laura Mercier. One problem I have is dry skin under my eyes. Anyone know of a good undereye moisturizer? Sometimes when I put on my concealer it shows off my dry flakes of skin. Ugh.

Hello Plantlady! My current favorite concealers are: Jean-Michelle Creamy Porcelain Satine Concealer& Sara St. James Easy Color Concealer in Light MediumThese are both from a Cosmetique collection. A good undereye moisturizer plus line tamer, smoothing, soothing skin brightener is one by Colorescience. You only use a bit and apply before concealer. It really has become a favorite of mine and I did re-order. It lasts a long time to. Comes in a pump container. It also refines your complexion texture and is sun friendly. Takes the red out of skin also.I got mine from skinchic.com.HTHS!Barbara
My favorite eye creams (I mostly use them for the moisturizing properties) are Clinique's All About Eyes and Liiv Botanicals (by Avon) eye cream w/SPF 15. Good luck :)

Avon have some great ones and often have special offers where you buy face cream and get eye cream free.I love lavere eye cream it really works and is all natural, its one of my favourite products on my profile. Also meg just sent me epione beverly hills eye cream and I am loving it.I sometimes get v dry skin under my eyes too but find if I remember to drink loads of water(which Im v bad at doing)it sorts it out.Sometimes a lot of things eg dry skin or lines go away when you start drinking the required amount-a lot of skin problems are sometimes down to dehydration.Oh and a lot of people sometimes have an essential fatty acids defiency, any health shop should have a vast selection (they even make them for vegetarians)

Try Mario Badesu's Ceramide Herbal Eye CreamI think you if your under eye circles are really really dark, you should try using a color corrector underneath your concealer. A very thin layer of color corrector (orange or pink) will neutralize those dark circles. Then you can apply less concealer than you would have without the corrector. This will help prevent caking and flaking. I use on myself as well as on my clients:Graftobian Color Corrector paletteCinema Secrets Concealer paletteHope that helps!Rerewww.OrlandoMakeupArtist.blogspot.com
Also, I forgot this one: AVON Rejuvenate 24 hr eye moisturizer. It has a day (w/SPF) and a night one. LOVE IT!

Okay, this may sound a little weird, but my dry-skinned mom swears by it. After she gets out of the shower, she smears a little Vaseline under her eyes and on her lips. She then continues to do her hair and such, letting it sink in, and after about ten minutes she wipes it off gently with a damp cotton pad or tissue. Apparently, it gets rid of those little dry flakies, since she never seems to have them! It might not be an eye moisturizer, but it's good in a pinch. As for concealers, my HG undereye is a toss-up between three: NYX pot concealer, Cargo's bluray (which I'd go for if you were looking for something more moisturizing), and UD's 24/7. I wind up using any combination of the three.
GREAT suggestions ladybugs!Currently,I am LOVING Cosmedicine's "Eye Specialist" cream...light and non-greasy,goes on great under makeup and really keeps the area moist and smooth without the resulting "lines or creasing!"I am addicted to MAC "Select Moisture Cover" concealer in NW 20...has just enough yellow and goes on perfectly/lasts forever.
Wow everyone, thanks for all of these suggestions! I've ordered some Avon Rejuvenate cream and can't wait for it to arrive. And as I replace my current concealer arsenal I'll try some of your suggestions. So many concealers and only 2 eyes :)
Yay! Hope you love it :)

This is something that I battle with, too...to be honest, I've given up for the time being. Everything I try is too light, too yellow, too SOMEthing..I've tried color correctors, and they just seem to make that area stand out more. I'm very fair and my circles are due to thin skin around my eyes. It's a family curse. They're very purpley looking against my ruddy fair complexion. If anyone knows of any good concealers or correctors for fair gals like myself, please let me know! I'll try anything.
DuWop has a great concealer and color corrector duo. It's call the circle block, a makeup artist used this on me yesterday at Sephora and it really works wonders. I was totaly blown away. What it does:DuWop Circle Block lets you say "sayonara" to dark circles for good. This revolutionary two-part system takes on dark circles, and other skin imperfections, by blocking them with a water-resistant treatment shield, then covering them with a pigment-rich, ultra-smooth concealer. What else you need to know:Circle Block's treatment shield has phenomenal staying power and is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, E, and C that brighten skintone and combat inflammation. The complementary concealer moisturizes with glycerin and shea butter, and it offers optimal coverage, with a lightweight, natural finish. Both products are paraben-free and designed to stay put without settling into fine lines.
I have TheBalm's concealer from sephora. It's not perfect, but is supposed to be moisturizing. It's A LOT better than Laura Mercier (for me anyways). I want to try Kat Von D's tattoo concealer or Revlon's Age Defying Spa concealer. I also have maybelline's age rewind which I sometimes use and L'Oreal's bare natural concealer. I like the Loreal one because it has SPF 25 and is a loose powder to set my concealer. For moisturizers, I use a free sample one I have from Mario Badescu. Sadly, my undereye circles are still extremely noticable! and they fade since I have super watery eyes since I wear contacts.
I freakin' love coverblend. I can have a nervous breakdown in this stuff and while the mascara has long ran down my face, the concealer is still there. I use a mix of the light and the beige but one single color may work for you. It's about $16 at Ulta. It works for everything, I'm not kidding here, it covers post surgical bruising, zits, purple under eye circles, birth marks, you name it!Oh and it rates a mild 3 on skin deep!
I think I have tried and reviewed every under eye concealer out there! I start out with my favorite undereye cream. Clarins Super Restorative total eye concentrate...you can feel it sinking into your skin. ( love this feeling!) Really good ratings. 2. Benefit's lemon Aid. Funny yellow colour but I find it really does the job.3. Then on top of the Benefit I add the Lancome Effacernes Waterproof undereye concealer. ( dabbing lightly with ring finger). This combination works wonders.

Wow! that coverblend sounds wonderful!I don't use concealer regularly but when I do I use Beauticontrols "Extra Help"

Mac concealers are on my favorites list.
I have always had very dark circles and searched for YEARS trying to find something that would work and look natural. My favorite, can't live without dark eye concealer, is from Everyday Minerals. It's called sunlight:https://www.everydayminerals.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=24&Itemid=43That link will bring you to their concealer page, click on the color "sunlight" to see. It's a very nice (100% natural!) mineral powder that you brush on under the eyes. Then you use their foundation colors over top. Works like a CHARM. And because it's a powder its very gentle.

my faves are Physicians Formula Concealer 101 and MAC Concealer
YSL touche eclat brightens my dark circles, though it is not technically a concealer- i use it over my regular foundation
I have green-ness under my eyes. It's not just dark circles - it actually ends up looking green. Rrribbiit! YSL touche eclat doesn't do the job on days when I haven't slept well. I was playing around one day with Benefit's High Brow (something I bought after a Sephora person used it on me but it isn't that great so I don't really use it) and I swiped it under my eyes and blended. The thick pearly brightness was too much but I blended it more and put some touche elcat on top and it looked pretty good. I looked normal and brightened. Anybody know of a single concealer that will cover dark circles, acne and brighten the complexion?
bare escentuals "well-rested" works really well. When I have time, and really bad circles or puffiness, I use a cream concealer over my eye cream, then my foundation, and some "well-rested" over that. The most important thing is to use enough eye cream and really let it soak in. And at night, use something really rich, as mentioned above, vaseline works very well, just pat a little bit under your eyes at night, and you won't have any dryness in the morning, even after washing your face. And it's completely non-irritating.
i use my nw20 for MAC and sometimes set it with MAC mylar

I have had good luck with Dark Shadows by Philosophy. Although, I just started using a sample of Erase Paste by Benefit and really like it. I think my next buy will be this.
I keep coming back to Philosophy's concealer but its staying power isn't great. The application is very very smooth though.
Everyday minerals concealers. I use sunlight concealer. Although I think peach is also good for dark undereyes :)
You could try using the NYX concealer in a jar. Its very creamy and provides great coverage. Also, the Mac studio fix concealer also gives great coverage! Try using a yellow or salmon colored concealer beneath the eye to counteract the dark circles! Everyday minerals make a few color correctors that you could apply in combination with the regular concealers for extra coverage!
I have pretty bad dark circles and I swear by Everyday Minerals Pearl Beige. It's not really a concealer, it's magical fairy dust or something. It's just...amazing.
I think Laura Mercier has a really creamy, moisturizing consistency and covers very well. A little goes a long way, so the jar lasts forever.
Sonia Kashuk has a special concealer palette out for color correcting concealers. What I like about it is that it doesn't have pure green, salmon, whatever colors in it - they are all tinted slightly to the color - enough to give the benefits, but not enough to make you look crazy if you don't cover it up with another concealer. I'd really recommend it because it's the only thing that really made my eyes look awake! Normal concealer tends to look a little ashy under the eyes, but the salmon one is great.

lately when I feel like my eyes look dehydrated and puffy I have been starting with Almay bright eyes eye base + concealer. After that I put on mark Good Riddance stick concealer. This stuff is awesome because you can just draw it onto your dark circles and then press it into your skin gently and no product gets wasted and its pretty mess free. After that I use mark Mini Mark It Stick in pink opal. Its just a bit dewy and perfect. I draw it onto my brow bone and into the corners of both of my eyes blend in, and voila...bright awake looking eyes.
Love and Lipgloss,

Yves saint laurent touche eclat is v brightening and easy to use,it comes in pen form but is v light, clarins have just recently brought out one too in a little red pen,I think they have more shade choices.

I wonder if mixing a concealer with an eye cream or moisturizer might be a good idea if you have very dry skin? You might have to start with a concealer shade that's a little dark for you because I'd imagine adding anything to it would lighten it somewhat.
moon8305, What a GREAT idea! It is always so hard to pick the right concealer shade. I have super dark dark circles so it usually ends up being too light. But now I'll get it a shade darker and try this!
i use mac concealer. the one in the jar like their eyeshadow.

I use a powder undereye concealer by EDM- I can use Abbott's concealer, which is a salmony color, but sometimes it's too light so recently I've been blending their peach concealer with some pearl sunlight to make a peachy concealer that reflects light. I sometimes have trouble w/ flakiness but some good moisturizing takes care of that.
I've heard a lot of great things about the Biore Skin preservation eye cream. I've heard it compared to Mac's eye cream. I ahve the same kind of problem with under eye dryness. I apply my under eye cream in patting mottions when I put my primer on and let it sit for a couple of minutes prior to putting on my makeup. Since I have drier undereye area I like something a little more on the liquid side. I use ELF studios under eye concealer and brightener and love it.
I def reccomed trying out Everyday Minerals different concealers!! I love most of them.
I love the undereye concealer from Glo Minerals! It's the best one I've tried so far! Plus, E. Funkhausers concealer is supposed to be really good, but I haven't tried it yet...Sunlight from Everyday Minerals works really well too, but it's a powder so it might only accentuate dryness...
My two favorite concealers are NYX Concealer in a jar and the Coastal Scents Concealer Palette. These are two great choices that don't settle into my fine lines around my eyes. I can never find a concealer that suits my skintone so the concealer palette works out great for me. I am able to mix and match shades to create my perfect color. I also use this concealer palette to contour and as an eyebase. This allows me to make use of all the shades. It is a very versatile palette. Good luck on your concealer quest!
I really like Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer. It does a really good job of brightening the area and making me look like I'm awake!
I don't wear undereye concealer every day, and when I do it's usually EDM stuff. Luckily I don't get dark circles yet *knock on wood*!
I love just a hint of Aussie Perk Me Up from Everyday minerals. The pearly quality of it helps to somehow diffuse the shadows thrown by my glasses, and the yellow tone to it helps reduce blue discolourations like dark circles.
Wow! It's hard to believe there are so many products for circles! Thank you all. Right now I am using the Kumarra eye cream and am trying the Coverblend in beige (a sample). I does cover well but I think might need a little more pink in it to match my skin. It also looks a little dry, but maybe I can play around by adding some other concealer or moisturizer to it. I also got the Bare Minerals Well Rested. I put it on top of everything and I think it works well.. at least I think I look ok after I put it on.. then after I get to work and look in a mirror or see my reflection in glass, I look tired again (or maybe everyone else just looks better in comparison). Perhaps I need some kind of primer or fixative?? Lord I don't want to have to use 15 products just on my undereyes!!! Too high maintenance for me... thank you all for your suggestions. I will keep trying as budget allows. May try the NYX next.
Okay so i tried the petroleum jelly on my lips cuz i have chronically dry lips and omg talk about soft and thats my lips! they are nice and supple which is great especially before i apply my lipstick. thanx!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
I've been having ghastly dark under eyes lately, and I heart benefit eye bright right now. it's a little pinker than I'm used to, but swiping a little on over my foundation at the end makes me feel more covered. it feels more natural than the yellow concealers, plus it feels light while correcting the color
I have been using a combination of Cosmedicine's Eye Specialist eye cream, Smashbox primer, and Kumaara's Radiant finish concealer. What a trio! I do have slightly dry skin underneath my eyes and other concealers appear cakey. However, this product trifecta looks so natural.
I use an eye moisturizer 5 minutes before applying concealer. I follow it with Smashbox Photo Op Undereye Brightener. Next, I apply my Chanel concealer. I have found that with this method, my eyes don't look dry and crepey.
