I'd like to know what you guys do to clean your insides be it a drink or something you eat or a procedure. I read that a little apple cider vinegar in water does wonders for the body. Please share your tips!
I am a fan of the "Zand" line of herbal cleanses...I use their "Quick Cleanse" at the change of seasons and I truly believe it helps to "regulate and cleanse" one's bodyclock! It's very gentle and isn't hard to follow at all,it does a great job without having to take anything "unpleasant" and is very reasonable.I've also heard how good cider vinegar is for you,I use it on salads! "Braggs" is what I like.I tried the famous/infamous "Master Cleanse" 2x's (you only ingest water with lemon, cayenne, and maple syrup along with salt water "flushes" and laxitive teas) and although many have good results,it WRECKED HAVOC with my body, way too much sugar,I got shingle-like sores, and blisters in my mouth and sorry,no detox is worth your body protesting so violently,LOL! There is much good info available out there but I avoid the "radical" cleanses as I eat very clean all the time.Choose wisely and good luck! :)
Here is a kind of obvious tip . . . you cannot drink too much water because you are flushing everything you can out of the body. There is nothing like eating just certain veggies and fruits to make you realize all the extra carbs and things that we do eat.Good Luck and just take this one day at a time!
@mjsred - I'll look into that Zand line, thanks for the suggestion. I use Bragg's apple cider vinegar too. I've read about that Master Cleanse people are raving about and it shouldn't be prescribed or recommended to anyone!
@hao9703 - Yes, taking too much water can actually kill you! It's really hard just to eat healthy with the people living with me because they don't really care about what they eat because they're young. It will take a lot of will power not to cave in to my food cravings. Thanks for the support!
@Artcandy - Yeah, I've heard about that kind of yoga, is that actually called Bikram yoga? Correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't done any yoga so I'll stick with the basic first and as I progress then I'll try that one. :)
I think a gradual transition to organic foods is a good way to detox. I've slowly been making the turn over to organic fruits and veggies. After reading "Skinny Bitch" and various other sites about all of the stuff used on my food, it grossed me out highly. It may be more expensive, but I've actually noticed a difference in my energy level. Now I'm just waiting for my skin to react positively. :)
@Fabulously Thrifty - I've been thinking of going organic as well but it is difficult because where I live organic products aren't really available and people aren't really into the organic thing mainly because it hasn't been introduced into the market. Please do let me know how your skin reacts to your organic diet!
Hey nina0205 -I guess it is we all just have to do what we can to detox and/or get healthier. Everyone here has given me many things to think about.
The information we can gather here is invaluable!
I have done the Master cleanse before, I lasted 6 days and I couldn't take anymore. I needed food!!! I agree it doesn't work for everyone and you have to be very smart about it. It's not a diet! And people do you use it to loose weight and that's bad. You also need to get your body prepart for it before hand and slowly come off of it. I'm thinking of doing a detox soon but this time I think I'm going with the juicing. I do vinyasa hot power yoga and a lot of my friends will detox with fresh juice from a juicer, almond milk and fresh fruits and vegetable for about 3 to 4 days, no more than that. Make sure when you detox to only do light work and exercise. Your body while detoxing can get weak, headache, tire, sleepyness. It's always good to start when you know your going to be home for a few days. Your body needs to rest during detox. You can do light exercise too, walking, hot yoga if your body is use to it. My body gets like this too when I start eating raw and it takes a good week or two to adjust. There are a lot of hot yoga's out there. My favorite one is Vinyasa flow but you have to try different ones and find the one that suits you best. I didn't care for Brikram yoga, it wasn't for me.Good luck! and let's know what you decide. I ready to go on Detox myself ;-)
@lulu - Thanks for the wealth of information! I realize it will take some time to get used to a new diet plan. It will be really hard because my family runs a bakery and there is an endless supply of bread! I'm going to plan this during a time when I can stay at home for some time.
Nina0205 - LOL... I just saw all the typos I've made in my post. I meant let me know what you decide. I'm ready to do one too. ;-) That's what happen when you try to work but would rather be surfing MM. :P OMG if my family owned a bakery I would be in big trouble. I have this friend that we call the baking Queen and she keeps bringing me her bakings. It's so bad, but sooooo GOOD! :) I'll eat it and then have to go healty for a few days after. AHA....
Nina, Bikram and hot yoga do the same exact asanas (poses/postures) in a room heated to 105 degrees. The only difference is that Bikram yoga is done by teachers trained by the Bikram school. Bikram is the "brand name" and hot yoga is the "generic version" if you will.
There is a product called "colon cleanse", they used to sell it at GNC, you drink at least 8 glassses of water, and take 2 pills twice a day, and it does really get rid of the bloat. Supposedly, your colon stores certain foods, like red meats, for years, and this helps you get rid of it.
There used to be this amazing product from CO Bigelow, BBW used to sell this specific product, but no longer do. It was a mustard bath, a fine powder that came in a plastic bag packaged inside a matte silver cylinder, which by the way, looked very cool in the bathroom, but after drinking a lot of water, you added it to a hot bath and soaked for about half an hour, then rinsed off and applied your moistuizer, and were supposed to relax afterward. I always used it before bed, and it was very detoxifying, in fact, there were warnings on the package about not trying it without the appropriate amount of water consumption. They may still sell it at the CO Bigelow website, I do think it's def. carried at the flagship store in NYC.
@lulu - I know! Every time I go down the kitchen there's always a fresh loaf of bread staring at me and saying "Eat me!!!" LOLIt hasn't helped either that I just baked a batch of awesome brownies that I've been trying very hard not to eat all at once!I think I'm going to take this one step at a time and eliminate all the "baddies" in my diet like sugar, white flour, caffeine and replace it with better things. I'm also looking into taking more fiber supplements (like the psyllium fiber capsules) and I'm also interested to try wheatgrass. I'll make it a point to exercise and try to do some yoga too.
@a_banger - I know there's a lot of things on the market right now and a lot of detox fads out there. It's really important to research and make informed decisions. Don't do anything drastic and just take it one step at a time. :)
@Gigi - Thanks for sharing! Oh I forgot about carrot juice, I love that stuff! Gotta head to the supermarket soon and stock up on some healthy goodies!
Has anyone here done the apple cider vinegar cleanse? Could you tell me if it worked and what effects it had? I'm doing some reading on it, but it'd be nice to have someone's perspective.I've also heard about a detox that gets rid of excess candida in your system. It's supposed to help with everything from chronic yeast infections to depression to headaches. You take supplements that kill the excess candida, and you can also take acidophilus to reestablish healthy flora in your instestines. It sounds like some miracle cure, so I'm skeptical. Coming from a science background it's difficult for me to accept some of these detox remedies without "evidence," but I'm trying to be more open about it.
I always buy the kits in the supplement stores.I've used this one twice and enjoyed the resultshttp://www.thehealthstore.co.nz/en/cp727/Detox_Program#Notice that this one is MINERAL formula. There is also a HERBAL formula.I use the mineral because it is a bit more gentle. The women in the store told me that the herbal formula is a bit more unpredictable and you need to always have access to a bathroom. The mineral did not disrupt my daily life what so ever.I took the supplements as directed and drank TONS of water. You dont have to eat anything specific but it reccomends no red meat. Lots of fiber and whole wheat. Veggies and fruit. No artificial stuff.15 days I believe
Well I won't go into the gory details, but I recently had a problem with my "rear end." I went to a dr. and he recommended I take a stool softener (not laxative) every day and Benefiber also every day. Well.. I do just that and let me tell you--I now eliminate more often--up to 3 times per day whereas before only once, sometimes none. I can't help but think that this is a good thing, keeping everything moving through and out every day so it doesn't sit in the colon. Also I try to eat as much unprocessed as possible. Of course, in this day and age, 100% is not possible but just keep it in mind when shopping and try to do the best you can. I have recently lost about 10-15 pounds this way, without counting calories, carbs or anything--just eating more unprocessed.
I bought a detox kit from Trader Joe's a few months ago. It made me break out! I have no idea what that was about. I drink a good 3-4 liters of water a day, I eat a ginormous salad for lunch everyday, and I take bowls full of vitamins everynight, so I am not sure that I need anymore detoxification
Lotsa Water and a 2 cups of green tea everyday. Or green tea supplements if I don't have time to make tea. Also, if anyone has heard of Astaxanthin, it's a powerful antioxidant that does not convert to Vitamin A in the body. Too much Vitamin A is toxic.

Hot Yoga. You would be amazed at how you feel after the class. Also the loss of weight is amazing along with of course the loss of toxins.Artcandy

Ive used a few detoxes. Ive used a few Actual ones and I also have a daily one. I take Purity 12 daily every few months to help flush you out.
Niacin is also a help. I take niacin occassionally when I tan. And it detoxes the blood stream!
Tan is Love
