I was wondering what treatment options are out there for pitted acne scars. Can you get laser treatments? Chemical peels? What about topical treatments? Thanks guys!
I would talk to a dermatologist before you do anything. I would start investigating from that point. You can try Retin-A to help minimize your breakouts and it does help with scaring. Your doctor can go into more details about this prescription.Laser treatments may work over an extended period of time. They are expensive and you will need many sessions to significant results from that type of acne.
i also have some acne scars and nothing got rid of them so far.... if they are not too noticeable i would just focus on preventing new breakouts by finding a good acne product.
Microderm can be too harsh for some,it gave me broken capilaries but peels can work wonders...there are many types of peels depending on how "deep" you need to remove the skin to for smoother results.Check with a good derma doc and go slowly to avoid any more discoloration or damage.
I would see a derm. They will prob wait to do any scar treatment procedures until after your acne is completely resolved and cleared up (so there won't be new scars). All of those choices are available, but how effective they are will vary. A good derm will be able to help make the right choices for your particular types of scars. A lot will depend on how deep exactly your scars are. I haven't had treatment for mine yet, since I'm currently working on getting my acne cleared up through Accutane. I have some raised scars but mostly sunken scars (not the really deep icepick ones, mostly the shallower ones). Here's a good resource though, for your own interest:http://www.acne.org/scars.php
Every where I go people say that the easiest way to get rid of any kind of scar are Vitamin E oil and Bio Oil. I heard that it reduces the appearance of scars and makes your skin smooth. So I recommend that before you go out and spend lots of money on different treatments that you should try these first. Unless you've already tried them and they haven't worked for you. Hope I help you out a little bit.
You really need to consult with a dermatologist to get rid of anything like that. There are so many different procedures they can do now to take care of it, I know people who have had filler injected, dermabrasion and peels of varying strengths. It's amazing what they can do, you won't believe how great you look once you find the right doctor.
Hi I just read about this-Mother of pearl Anti-scar cream £12.95-www.herbsecret.co.uk-here's the blurb-powdered mother of pearl has long been used by peruvians to treat acne and scarring. When emulsified, its many protein amino acids work to help skin repair itself, and reduce inflammation and lunpiness.Just make sure your not allergic to shellfish as you can have a reaction.
I have the same issues, Sevenwatersdaughter. I've been hearing so many raves about the Makeup Artists Choice at-home peels, but I haven't tried them due to warnings from my derm. I'm only interested in the mildest of peels, but since I have olive skin I'm afraid of mucking it up and causing discoloration, which is the last thing my skin needs!
I have acne scars but they're not like indented in my face or anything, just dark spots that I wish I could get rid of. Im sure you can do laser treatment although that might be expensive
I will try seeing the dermatologist. My acne is really clearing up now that I use Everyday Minerals and jojoba oil as a moisturizer. I purchased a peel, it's Skyn Iceland's Nordic Skin Peel with Biospheric Compex, from Sephora. The girl was very knowledgeable so I'll try it and see how it goes. I've tried it out and it's super gentle, I love it! So we'll see how it goes. I want to try the Vitamin D thing you guys mentioned too. The Sephora girl told me about it as well. When I was at Sephora I saw this contraption that is a light that focuses certain rays of light on your skin to help with acne scars, but it was $275, so we'll see how this goes first! Thanks for all the advice!
I work for a cosmetic derm and had pitted scars myself. You need to create collagen in your skin to fill those scars. You can inject collagen but your body will eat it away and you will have to do it every couple of months. The best thing would be a laser to stimulate collagen production and fill the scars from the inside out. I had smoothbeam a candela laser, it completely changed my skin and I am soo thankful for the beautiful skin and reccomend it to anyone with this issue. You can go on candela.com to find a physician near you. Chem peels/dermabrassion will help the apperance of the scars but won't solve the problem on their own. It will work best if you combine the treatments.
I wouldn't get the $275 light thing, save the money and see the Derm.
Tough one but I agree: see a derma-doc and go slowly: there are some FABULOUS treatments out there but you do not want to be over-zealous and create another problem trying to reduce the scars.Helping a friend deal with a similar issue now,she is also using "Tazorac"(RX only) with is a retinol but has really helped reduce the redness and discoloration. Hope you find some gratification and keep us posted!

Have you looked into microdermabrasion? It is definitely helpful in smoothing out skin appearance. It worked for me!

I'm going to try microderm or maybe a chemical peel, as I also have the same problem and my last resort is a laser treatment!

Good advice to play it safe and go to a derm guys! Two things you dont mess with is Water and your Skin. Be safe hon.

Thanks! I will. That's why I decided to go for a really gentle peel and then work my way up from there! Thanks!
