A Or B ?
Ladies, I have a problem. I buy things that I really want. Then... I don't wear them. This may sound a little odd. But then it got me thinking...Maybe I'm not alone? My children laugh at me, because I finally got a Coach Bag ( the one that I was obsessed with finding.) and now it sits in my closet in a bag. Also I searched out a Anthropologie Jacket I wanted so bad. I haven't even opened it up and taken it out of the box. My children are joking with me, and say, " Just add it to the Special Pile!" That means when it passes the initiation stage, it may get opened up and used. So here's my question. When you get something you love...Do you?A) Pull off the tags as fast as you can, and maybe even get anxious anticipating your first opportunity to wear it? B) Calmly put it in a special spot in your home. Let it stay there, and just embrace the fact that you now own it, and it will always be a part of you. ( Yup, I know... I told you I am a bit wierd.) lol.C) None of the Above. But this is the crazy thing you do, after making a exciting purchase?

oops, Forgot to mention...C ?

Usually, when I buy something new, I am like a kid - can't wait to wear it as soon as possible! That is so true of clothes and makeup. Now occasionally, I do find myself buying something I just know that I NEED - and then hanging it in my closet for a long time. I have a denim coat that I bought nearly a year ago and still haven't found the opportunity to wear it. I can't even remember what I liked about it so much that I had to have it. Hmmm, this is an interesting dilemma. Why do we do this? Any ideas?

I think it's all about the hunt. I know when I get set in my mind that I NEED SOMETHING, I can practically feel my adrenaline rushing through me during the search (whether online or in a real store). I get so excited when I'm looking at the item and thinking about purchasing it, but once I hand over the credit card and it's in my hands, the excitement usually is nearly gone. I know they say guys have that "hunting" instinct when it comes to trying to get a girl. Maybe we have the same instinct, only for clothes and beauty products!!

I get so so excited whenever I buy something fabulous I must wear it immediately. If I feel that strongly about something, I typically want to wear it everywhere and show it off as much as possible. I don't think there's a point in buying gorgeous things that not wearing them, but that's me.
I'm the exact same way. I think it's more about the desire for something, the quest to get it, then the actual acquisition of it. I think in the back of my mind, I always think that this is the purchase that will change my life, that will make me feel beautiful, or look 10 years younger, 10 pounds thinner, and of course, it doesn't, so I go onto the next thing. If I wanted to get really deep into it, I guess I would say that there may be an underlying need for something else, probably not something that can be bought in a store.
I buy Thousand of stuff taht I want but don't need and I always keep the TAG on lol so if I chnage my mine which happen REALLY iften lol I just bring it back =)

Answer: C. For some odd reason, I usually "age" my purchases for several weeks before I wear them. Most of my new clothes get sent out for alterations, then go on vacation for a month, in my closet. With new makeup, I like to experiment with a variety of new looks with it, at home, before venturing out in public, so new beauty products also generally get a month long vacation in my drawer before going into regular rotation. Lol!
It depends. When it comes to make-up, I often find myself wanting a certain eye shadow badly, so badly that I buy it even if I know I should not since I will wear it once or twice before returning to my favourites (The Body Shop's Warm Shimmer Cubes, especially the light golden colour). Though I get all excited to try the new product, whatever it is, often at least opening the package already before I've reached home. When it comes to clothes, I usually buy new ones because I actually need them because my old favourites are no longer wearable outside of my home. So, naturally they go into the rotation at once, seeing as the new clothes are the best thing I've got to wear. Though of course, there is the occasional dress I cannot wear other than on a night out. :P
Oh, I get so excited over purchases I am known to change as soon as I get in the car. Really that is true! So if you see me half clothed, contorted in my suv's front seat in the mall parking lot, just ignore it! but I also know what you mean about the buying and not using. A while back I ordered many things over the Internet, when they came I just put them away. Never got them out again. Long story short I was trying to analyze 'why', I think it may have been a depressive thing. PMS is evil! I (try) to stop that type of purchasing. My husband always makes me laugh when he says "you know it will be a 100% off sale, if you just walk away" :-) erica your words are so correct. You put it very nicely. Good Luck!
I get super excited over new things, and then get them home and either try on or just look at them for a while.. but usually it takes weeks or months to actually use them. In the case of clothing, sometimes even longer. I'll rationalize that it's not the right season for it, or that I need to lose a bit of weight first, or that I'm waiting for a certain occasion.. etc etc. With a couple of items, that 'certain occasion' never came along, so they just sit in the closet waiting. That happened a couple of years ago, I went mini-skirt mad and bought a whole bunch. I loved them, but never got up the courage to wear them in public because I was waiting to lose weight so I'd feel more confident. Now all of my friends make comments about how we're too old to wear minis. I don't believe in that philosophy personally, but it's just another thing that keeps them in the closet instead of on me. :(
I used to use whatever I bought as soon as I could: purses, clothes, makeup... But that was when I was a teen and I only bought like 1-2 things at a time, and not very often because teens don't have a whole lot of money to spend! Now I tend to wait a bit before trying things out after I buy them, but once I start using them, I use them all the time (like my leather Fossil purse. For some reason I was just too nervous to use it, and kept thinking about returning it... now that I've been using it for a few months straight, I can't imagine not having it! It's the perfect purse for me.) And things I really don't use, I try to get rid of (consignment stores, thrift stores, friends, whoever will take it!).

Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback. It's nice to see what we all have our own unique style of acquiring our own personal possessions. BlueDevil Kitty, I love the fossil brand too. Just bought a necklace a couple weeks back. It's now in a special place.....lol!

I tend to wear stuff I buy as soon as I get it, except for suits. I have several in my closet that I bought and then I got laid off!
I'm bad about "saving" clothing: I buy it and then want to "save it" for something special than I get a bee up my butt and put it on anyways,LOL!I guess it comes from years fo being thrifty?Makeup and skin-care get used in the car on the way out of the store,LOL!
I can't wait to wear new things when I get them, I'm pretty bad about that!
Tear off the tag and wear it to bed that very night...... ;) A little odd when it's a pair of boots or a new cocktail dress hahahaha. I love your honesty, I bet you are the best most loyal kind of friend to your inner circle. They are lucky to have you!
i guess i go with D both, sometimes i buy something special and can't wait to use it other times its in a special spot in my closet
I'm definitely an A! I've switched purses in the car before! lol

A) I'm knowing for getting a new handbag and stuffing it. That's why I opt for nice roomy bags. lol Ever been in the mall and purchased something you had to run to the bathroom to put on?
I usally, wait like a few days before i use/wear new things. I have no ideaa why.
Love Jadeee :D
I sometimes like the hunt, other times it is too precious to use. I am horrible about storing for a rainy day. I have wedding presents that are now 24 years old that I haven't used. Gigi is trying to convince me to use some of my stuff and I am pushing her to use hers. We are each others sponsors in the saving stuff anonymous club.

Thanks Stylemama for the nicest compliment. I'm wearing a big smile right now. Girls, Just opened up my new jacket from the Anthropoligy store, at the tailors....it didnt fit. I could cry. It took me so long to open and now I have to send it back. Waaaaah!

I would say it really depends on what it is or how much I spent. With biggish purchases, I am so afraid of buyer's remorse that I try to leave the tags on for a little while in case I want to bring it back. I am so sickened when I buy something and regret it, that now I've kind of gotten myself to have the buyer's remorse while I'm still in the store so I can save myself the trouble of returning it. I really really really have to want something and KNOW that I'm going to use it often, or else I won't buy it. Of course there are some times when I break my own rules and end up with something that I regret, but those times just strengthen my desire to not want to do that again.
Wear/use it right away. Life is short and there is no guarantee of tomorrow. I don't want me last words being "damn...I never got to wear my Gucci sandals!"
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
SwAG, you crack me up. If I buy something, I generally wear it or use it pretty quickly. I dont' buy something if I'm not going to use it, that's just wasting money. In the case of makeup or skin products, I try to use up what I've got before I open something new, but that doesn't always happen. More often than not it doesn't happen. :) But clothes or earrings or a purse I don't let it sit there. Unless I've bought something on clearance and it's unseasonal - then I wait.
O'k I'm having a new outlook on new purchases now. I'm going to take baby steps and try to take the tags off the day I buy something. lol.

Oh so many times I'm sooooo excited to get something and this usually happens with my online purchases, I'm not excited about it...wrong color wrong type, whatever, I've basically had this problem on ebay when I think I'm getting such a great deal on some cosmetic!! I get too excited to try the brand that I don't investigate the color closely enough or something like that!! So I end up spending the money and not getting what I want!!This has happened many more times than I would like to admit!!with clothing, I usually do better, if I try something on then I know I will like it....but there has been a time or two when I've gotten something only to bring it home and have it not work out....I don't know about you guys but sometimes I just don't have the energy or time to return things, then I really kick myself!!But I am getting better, my hubby lost his job this summer and was unemployed for several months, so I didn't have the luxury of "mis-buying" things!! so little by little I think I'm learning!!! LOL
haha i let things sit forever but that's because i buy clothes that i can't really where everyday. crazy special occasion stuff or super glam things that would look ridiculous going to get groceries in.
