I start conditioning practices for cheerleading (glup) soon. Thank you for posting this because I'll follow it and improve my eating habits and tone my abs. Before I start eating healthy, I'm gonna go grab some Cheese-its.....
Best Wishes in your race and diet. Sounds like you are on track. I also have allergies and am taking some asthma type meds. I am looking forward to see what the SMART LADIES out there have to offer.
You sound really healthy already,I cant eat wheat either Im totally alergic, oat cakes are pretty good-low gi.Allure magazine have this email diet tip thing going on at the moment http://www.allure.com/go/cheat where they email you a tip every and your entered to win$50 of elf every day. Also I read lately that a probiotic every day is supposed to keep your waist tiny,oh and theres this supplement called phase-2 thats made from white beans and its a carb blocker ,you just take1-2 half an hour before you eat, there is a warning on the bottle for diabetics that because it lowers your blood sugar that your doctor may need to adjust your inslin, sorry about the blah blah, but the phase 2 supposed to be good.

Wow msjred! That's awsome. I'm so ENVY of you! You sound like your already very healthy. Maybe add some natural fatty food to burn more fat if you don't already. Like raw natural nuts, avocados and coconut? I eat tons of that and it helps my skin too. I try to eat raw, but I'm not 100% there yet. But it's not for everyone. Also a friend of mine is really in to eating healthy and she told me to eat all your fruits in the morning before anything else and after eat your other food groups. And the rest of the day if you want more fruits just berries for snacks. I think because other fruits are higher in natural sugars. Also I've notice since I've started taking vitamin B Complex I have more energy and it's suppose to burn fat if you take it right after your meal with a full glass of water. Good Luck to you! Can't wait to hear more! XOX
I have been watching my weight since high school. I wasn't blessed with the best metabolism, and it's an ongoing battle. That said, I'm pretty happy with my weight right now. Two mottos I credit with keeping my weight low are:1. Keep over all calorie consumption low.2. Stop eating when you are %80 full. They are simple, but they take discipline to adhere to. Good luck!

I am so impressed! A triathelon is something I couldn't even imagine doing - even when I was younger. You go, girl! For energy, I've been trying to eat more protein. Also, I learned about organic apple cider vinegar on MMU and try to remember to drink a shot of that every morning. It really seems to help me with both my eating habits and energy. Having safe snacks around helps me a lot. But since you don't eat wheat, I guess the fabulous Fiber One bars and the Vitalicious muffins are out of the question. I'd die without them. Seriously. Another great safe snack for me is from Quaker - those cute little Quakes. Good luck with the race. We're all really proud of you! Carole

LOVE y'all bunches and will keep you posted on my "new changes!"Some great ideas and I appreciate every one of them!!!
I'm on Weight Watchers and am doing the Cook Yourself Thin recipes from Lifetime. Its working so far! What I always recommend to everyone is what I have personally named "The Perimeter Diet". I stick to the outer edge when shopping at the market. Only fresh fruits, veggies, fresh baked goods, fresh meats and fishes. Seriously...everything in the middle of the grocery store is what gets you in trouble. Especially the alcohol aisle...just empty calories. I eat six times a day, very small meals and NEVER skip breakfast. My mom did a lot of fasting in the 70's and 80's and wrecked her metabolism. We need food tto survive. Just not a lot of food. Good luck woman!

I don't have any diet tips, but I did want to say GOOD LUCK! I'm really impressed--wow, a triathalon! I'm just starting to get back in shape and I'm looking at maybe doing a 5k sometime soon, and a 10k in September. It's hard though, b/c I haven't lost any weight although I've been working out 2-3 times/week most weeks, and my body seems to look about the same too. :( I don't know what your diet is like already, but I know I personally need to eat more fruits and veggies and less processed grains, and that'll help me cut down on fat too. Hope that helps :)

mjsred-Good luck! You are so not 55! I refuse to believe it. Not that there is anything wrong with that age. But you just don't look it. Wow. May I be so lucky. Best of luck on your race. It takes a lot of guts and courage to train and complete a task like that. Let us know how it all turns out.
Plugging away and getting a LOT stronger!!! I'm really not eating a lot,am trying to reduce calories for a while so that the "hard work" will come to the surface,LOL! I basically eat fruit, veggies, corn tortillas,steel-cut oatmeal, rice, nuts, and fish and that's about it,it's amazing how many ways you can enjoy it though.I am considering a "raw food" diet for a while to see if it really helps me to lose the existing body-fat? Called the "811" plan.HARD,I haven't really lost pounds but the inches off are apparent and I'm getting "those nice arms" instead of bingo-wings,always a plus! :)I will absolutely tell you that I firmly believe your metabolism DOES slow way down at this age...keep a hold of it before hand if you can peeps!!!
I'm so proud of you. And I totally envy your arms. Keep it up and post a pic!!!

i really felt like the key to competeing (cheerleading) was really what you did OUTSIDE of the practice or workout...stretching while you are watching tv, your eating habits (eating healthy gets addicting bc it makes you feel so muh better) and your mental state. I meditate, well the team would meditate together haha it was great team building and built great stamina.

j.baby: this is amazing advice and I SO agree! I am learning to "visualize" and make it happen as well as to calm and focus via yoga...you offer some seldom-thought of but effective ideas and I thank you so much fo the wisdom!
My favorite eating plan is "Eat to Live" - it's basiaclly as "clean" as you can get...lots of veggies, fruits, beans! (but I've never been a real big meat eater, just occassional fish and chicken, so it's pretty easy as long as I have the food in the fridge/pantry.As for exercise, I use T-Tapp, Oxycise, and my exercise bike.
