Oily Eyelids Anyone?
Thu, 10/08/2009 - 5:44pm
Does anybody have really oily eyelids? My whole face tends to be pretty oily, but my eyelids are the worst! I sometimes feel like I can't wear any eyeshadow at all because it will just slide right off. It's to the extent where my eyes sting because I think they must be getting oil in them (even when I am not wearing eyeshadow). Is this a situation where primer might help or do I just have to deal with it forever?

YES, I have terribly oil eyelids! Get yourself some eyeshadow primer :) It is the most miraculous product ever, and worth every penny. I've used Urban Decay Primer Potion and Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and both work equally well on my yucky lids, but I prefer Too Faced's version because it's a squeeze tube and you can get out every last drop.Although I haven't tried it, I've heard that ELF's mineral eyeshadow primer is just as good as those two, and it's only $3!Other options: MAC paint pots, MAC paints.

for sure.....primer makes all the difference though!
me too, terribly oily lids. You NEED a primer - if you're like me, you'll have to try several to find one that works, so keep receipts so you can take whatever doesn't work back to Sephora!I ended up liking Coastal Scents EyePoxy, but I have ELF coming to me in the mail.I also like Indelible Creme Eyeshadows (I bought mine from Aromaleigh), layered on TOP of primer, my eyeshadow is bullet-proof.Good luck!
Thanks! I do own Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, but I never think to use it, I'll have to make sure I put that on. My mom has the same oily eyelid problem and just gave up on eye makeup altogether, I sure don't want to do that though! :)

king taco lol at your eyeshadow being bullet proof! i have never used an eyeshadow primer but i think i just might after reading this i dont tend to have oily eyelids (the rest of my face makes up for it though! :( )
Yeah I had my UDPP for awhile but never really used it regularly. It makes such a difference now that I've really made it a part of my routine, though! I never wear e/s without it, and it really only takes a few seconds, it's just getting in the habit.
Thanks everyone! I have been using my Urban Decay primer for the past few days, and it has made a HUGE difference. No more oily eyelids! I even used it on it's own w/o eyeshadow (since I was staying home for the day) and I feel so much better.

where I live its very hot and hbumid in the summer months and that makes my eyelids very oily and my eyeshadow creases and looks horriable 10 minutes after I step outside. I started using Urban Decay eyeahadow primer and problem solved! There are several different brands of eyeshadow primers out there...one will work for you! good luck...Lisa
My eyelids are really oily, I never used to be able to wear any kind of e/s at all until last year when I discovered UDPP. It makes my e/s last all day long, whereas without it it creases and melts away within ten minutes. I never thought I would find another HG product that I loved more than my standard UDPP.. until SIN came along. ;)
I love the UDPP. Is the SIN the colored one? I saw it at Ulta. It looks shimmery. Does it change the look of the shadow much?
I also just tried the Tarte eyeshadow primer (it was in a prize pack from Meg). It works just as well as Urban Decay primer potion. The packaging is supposedly 100% biodegradable too! (I'm so intrigued I might try it in my own backyard... hahaha).Anyways, I don't know how natural Urban Decay or Too Faced are, so if you really want something more green/natural, Tarte is definitely a good alternative.http://www.tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-lifted

i have oily eyelids and what i do is make sure it is not wet, not put on any moisturizer, put on a base that is a dry creme, and then put on the eyeshadow allow a minute and put on another coat
Urban Decay Primer Potion or Mac Paint Pots. They are the best. Mac Paint Pots are a two in one product for me because they serve as a eyeshadow too. Either one of these products will be the answer to your eyelid dreams, and oily creases will be but a memory.
A lot of people recommend setting the primer(whichever one that it may be that you use) with a translucent powder if you have oily lids.

I feel like around my eyes is the oiliest part of my face. I actually won't even wear mascara on my lower lashes because I feel like it's running down my face three hours after I put it on. It's really, really annoying
yes i do too! thought they don't oil as fast as my forehead, they still do! I always feel self-conscious when wearing eyeshadow now...
YES! Im glad I found this post! Thanks for the advise ladies! I have one oily lid (I know weird right), actually just the corner and it totally bugs me!

Does anyone know A good drug store primer to apply before eye shadow?
i also have oily eyelids i have elf mineral eyeshadow primer it does work but there still is a little creasing but i heard a lot people say that urban decay has a really good eye shadow primer although i cant justify spending almost $20 on just eyeshadow primer my husband might have something to say about that lol
I have both the ELF and Urban Decay primers, and think the ELF works almost as well as the much more expensive Urban Decay.

@rubysbeauty: Thanks for the info. I've heard other people say that, too. I love UDPP, but I think I'll try the ELF version when I run out.
i have oily eyelids as well- try Monistat Anti-Chafing gel as a primer- it works pretty good and you get a giant size for under 6 bucks at Wal-Mart! you can use it on your face too.
I will have to try the Monistat! I have it already (to use as a face primer), I just wasn't sure if it could be used on the eyelids as well.

I have very oily eyelids, too. I used to hate wearing e/s because after an hour or two there's a lot creasing. The ELF mineral primer works well for me. After 8 hours though, I've seen a slight creasing.
UDPP is AMAZING. :) I've tried a Kryolan primer, that was horrible. And I've got the private label eye fix that works pretty well, but you have to be super careful with the application - pat on the TINIEST bit or you'll get creasing.
I have terribly oily lids as well. UDPP is the only thing that will work on me, which is a shame because it has such a stupid bottle. And yes, I've tried TFSI, ELF and Coastal Scents - all still let go of my shadows within the hour.
I use the dollar eyelid primer from E.L.F and it works great for my oily lids :)
I have tried UDPP, but didn't work for me. ELF mineral primer rules! :)
I never tried UDPP. I usually use L'Oreal H.I.P. or MAC paints.

I moisturize. My skin produces oil when it needs it the most (winter) so I just appease it by washing regularly with mild clensers and moisturizing with a water-based moisturizer frequently. many say that oil based is better in the winter months but it just seems to anger my skin.
Yes i have super oily eyelids!
Ok so I used to have a problem with oily eyelids and eyeshadows creasing, I made a homemade eyeshadow primer (easy peasy) and it is amazing! my eyeshadow stays on perfect all day! (and i use it under my eyes so my mineral powder doesnt look creased and cakey) heres the video with how to make it, I hope it helps...........http://www.youtube.com/millmo7#p/u/7/3Rl-8FQS0W4
I have lids so oily they actually get shiny :x Eyeshadows crease on me like crazy too but I found Too Faced Shadow Insurance to be a great help. I apply it from lid to browbone and then the shadows just. won't. budge. And my days are very long, I wear makeup from 7:30am to midnight or 1 am and the shadow is still there after all that. I hear Urban Decay's primer potion is even better for oily eyes but I've never tried it so I can't tell how good it is.
I have oily lids and without a primer all eyeshadow would be in crease in few hours. I use Urban Decay Primer Potion and it works like a dream :)
Great that you asked that question because I have the same problem, but never knew it was a problem. LOL Now I know why I can never put on eye shadow properly!

Why, Urban Decay of course! I'll try NYX Jumbo Pencil on top of that to really make the colos pop!
