MoroccanOil

Anyone else obsessed with MoroccanOil? I have never found a product that does such a great job at moisturizing my dry locks without an oily residue. I love the shine it gives my hair. I was wondering if anyone has found a comparable product at a cheaper price? A small bottle does go a long way, but $35 for a bottle definitely puts a strain on my wallet. Thanks! gem :)

I was wondering where the best place to find one is also. I don't even know where to pick one up for $35. I have seen the one on Sephora for $42 but, it says its for your body. I wasn't sure where to look for it. Can I find it at Sprouts?
I've been able to find a 3.4oz bottle on Amazon and ebay for $35. I am not sure about Sprouts. I am curious to know if other argan oils have worked for others. I've seen organic argan oil for $18. However, I am not sure if it is good for hair.
I have hair extensions and my hairdresser recommended it. It really is a great product and smells great and it lasts forever! I just have to be carefull not to put too much on and end up looking greasy though.
I love this stuff. It does wonders for my naturally wavy hair that I dry/iron straight. It protects from humidity and keeps the poofs away all day. I usually buy mine on Amazon for 30-35 bucks. I found it this morning on cosmeticmagic.com for $27.99! They also have some fantastic looking gift packs, too...
Oh this is definately on my radar,Ive got to get my hands on a bottle at some stage. You know the model caprice-she used to write a beauty column and said the secret to her hair not getting brittle-despite having it bleached almost white is-she soaks the ends of her hair in flaxseed oil before she goes to bed and washes it out in the morning.I think she does this once a week.Anyway its really cheap and should be in any health store and you should be able to get an organic version. Also I have a recipe from the aromatherapist danielle ryman for a mix you make up yourself.Ill post it up when I find it.

Thanks for the tip on flaxseed oil, potionprincess. I wonder how much she uses and if it absorbs quickly on the ends of your hair? I don't think that I would want an oily pillow ;)
There is a wonderful Moroccan deli that I frequent. The woman who owns the deli was extolling the virtues of (Moroccan) Argon oil, for hair and skin. She told me that the only difference between the food grade oil and the cosmetic grade, is the fragrance. She said the natural oil has an odor that is removed during processing for the cosmetic grade. Obviously, the food grade oil is far less expensive. She is going to order me some and I will keep you posted as to the results. Also, I will see if I can find out where we can order the food grade oil.

I just saw the Morroccanoil hair treatment at Trade Secret in the mall yesterday. I didn't even know they carried it! I think the price there was $39. They also sell it at my salon, which is where I first experienced it, but unless you're around the St. Louis area that won't do you any good.I'd be very interested in trying the non-namebrand versions if you find them..although I love the smell of the MorroccanOil line, if it's cheaper and works just as well, I could live without the scent..
Probably Extra Virgin Olive Oil. But I would imagine that Moraccan Oil is a lot better since it is SO expensive.
Real argan oil from Morocco is processed from seeds harvested from the poop of goats that eat the argan seeds (they pass through undigested). BUT Moroccan Oil has hardly any argan in it--it's mostly silicones.
Hi gem sory I forgot to mention, she said to put down a towel over your pillow first.

I love Moroccan Oil!!!! Although one might view it as being costly, it really isn't because only a small amount is required. I usually rollerset my hair and it leaves such a beautiful sheen and my hair feels very moisturized.
So, I have been looking for a more affordable alternative to Moroccan Oil. On my last drug store trip, I bought a bottle of Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage serum for $6.99. Plus, it had a mail-in rebate so you could get the bottle for FREE! The ingredients consist of Coconut Oil, Coconut Milk, Egg White Proteins and Vitamin E. It really moisturized my hair (especially my dry ends) without weighing it down. My hair looks shiny and feels great. It is supposed to manage frizziness, repair split ends and damaged cuticles. I am sold -- and you can't beat the price!
Ooohh....great tip gem! I am going to check this out! Which drugstore did you pick it up at? BTW-I am naturally curly but also oily. Do you think that it would cause me to be overly oily?
I picked it up at my local CVS. I hope you have them in your area. :) Since you have oily hair, I would use a tiny bit (size of a pea) on your ends.
Thanks gem! I love CVS. I always take advantage of the store dollars I earn. I get a lot for free or cheap when I add coupons. Mainly my scalp air shows the most oil. So maybe if I use the small amount you mentioned and focus it on my ends I will avoid an oily mess. I think that my curls will thank you!
I really have to try this! I have heard so many good things about it. I have heard about a lot of other similar products, but I haven't tried them.
haven't heard of it before but now i'm going to look into and maybe buy some
Thanks, Gem. I am going to check this out. Even when I think I am happy with my hair (or skin) I always think there is something better out there that I am missing. Will check this out at CVS.
i've never tried this - it sounds interesting

I absolutely love Moroccan Oil. It absorbs very quickly into the hair and helps lock in moisture. My hair also dries more quickly when I use it and it smells wonderful! I would also love to find a lower-priced alternative, but so far I have found nothing that compares.
hmmmm....i keep hearing about Moroccan oil but have yet to actually see it in any stores locally. I am going to have to keep my eyes and ears open concerning this. does anyone add it to flax seed gel ? thanks for keeping me updated on new products!
I'm curious to try this. My hair gets oily pretty easily, so I'm a little hesitant, but from what you've said it won't really bother that. I'm currently using Biosilk shine serum, which is a little bit less expensive, but not by much. I like the idea of using something more natural though.
I have a totally amazing friend who gave me a bunch of samples of Agadir Argan Oil to try, and OMG. Agadir smells divine, makes my hair super shiny, and gets rid of all my frizz. It is sort of expensive, but I have unruly hair and this works. I'm sure you can pick it up cheaper on Ebay or Amazon.

I just purchased Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal which features Argan oil. I haven't gotten it yet (bought it off ebay). I paid $18 for a 4 ounce bottle. I'm hoping it's as good if not better than Morrocanoil as it also has soy.

If you want to try Argan oil there is a seller on Esty who sells it for $4.50 for .66 oz. I just ordered some but I haven't got it yet. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30791344
Target carries a line from Umberto of Beverly Hills (he has been featured on "Split Ends", on the style channel), and he has a product called "Roman oil serum" that is very similiar as far as the results, and it is under $10. Hope that helps someone.
As of 10/20/09 Sally Beauty Supply sells a 4 oz. bottle for 8.99/9.99. This stuff is not 100% moraccon oil, but it contains moraccon/argan oil. The sales clerk told me to buy it because it's amazing stuff and she wasn't lying! My hair is silky smooth! I threw away all of my other hair polishers. My hair feels like hair that has never been color treated! You should get some!
I'm definately going to try the Sally Beauty stuff after my Morrocanoil and Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal run out. Been reading great reviews on it!

morning ladies,i just started using argan oil. i work a dime-sized amount through mid-way down my hair and the ends, right when i get out of the shower and continue on with my regular routine. (PM sculpting foam, PM round trip, finger-style and air dry)my hair is noticeably frizzier (and has an uneven curl) than before using argan oil. am i doing something wrong?I also started using it on my skin, at night, under my face cream. and a few drops in my bath. with nice, but not extraordinary results. do i need to have patience? it's only been a few days.

Thanks Indi! I am curious on how this turns out.
The Moroccan Oil is fantastic. Just don't put too much on. I know that and still end up doing it. Less is more! But it's great.
I just picked up a bottle of the Sally Beauty Supply 8.99 "Argan Moroccan oil" and gives me identical results to the more expensive stuff I have to go to the salon for. Totally worth trying!
The Beauty Industry has been duplicating Moroccan Oil in various forms. Most use the term Argan OIL. One of the best is Agadir Oil. Available in Beauty supply stores and at unitedbeauty.com.
I tried the Argan Oil from Sally Beauty and while I am all for finding a lower-price alternative to Moroccan Oil, I have found that the brand from Sally Beauty makes my hair look slightly greasy and just doesn't seem to work as well. Has anyone else had this experience?
Oh no! I just bought this. Now I am nervous to try it.
I used coconut oil on my hair the other night- smothered my hair in the oil and slept with it in-then in the moringin i shampooed as normal.......tada super duper shiny soft hair-no grease! i payed £4.99 for my jar and that will last me aggggeeeeessss! click the link below to see what my hair was like after!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y8bYtCVLWk
Wow! I'm so buying coconut oil! Grocery store would have it, you think?
http://www.rubysbeauty.com
yes., rubysbeauty, it would. so would the vitamin store or gnc.

So.. after using Argan oil for a month. For me, it didn't work any better than coconut oil (for my hair), and made my hair greasy (despite using the teeny-tinest amount possible). While it did improve my nails and my skin tremendously!

aggggrrrr what is wrong with me??! paid*** I am forever finding spelling mistakes in previous posts! gah! morngin??!!- obviously i meant morning!
any combination of oils will work wonders if you use it a night and let it set. i use joboba, coconut, olive oil...if you want to find good products for these oils (especially argan...) go to ethnic stores....they charge 1.99 for olive oil for hair (indian women use it all the time)! i use a dropper and add it to everything...forget all the $$$$$, ladies....it's a waste...i do love Fekkai products but i just buy a tube once in a while and save it for special occassions....also, add oils or conditioner to an empty bottle, add water and spray on your ends...it's the same thing as a no-rinse conditioner. Play with it and have fun!! sometimes i take the ends of all my product conditioners and add them into one bottle...works just as well and lasts longer, too!TTFN!!!
PS: healthfood stores or ethnic stores for oils that come from that particular region...AND RINSE WITH APPLE CIDER VINEGAR once a week!! A MUST, A MUST, A MUST!!! product build up will ruin the shine on anybody's hair- i dont care if you are jennifer aniston!!! you must start with a clean slate!! rinse in the morning, oils at night, shampoo the next morning...(i sound like a drill sargent, sorry!!!)TTFN...mean it this time!!
just like theprincess said- i enjoy and experiment with variety of oils. Olive oil turned out to be too oily for my skin, but i love to use it on my lips and lashes as overnight treatment conditioner. Argan oil is amazing, I use Melvita, which is amazing French Organic brand that also sells many other oils. My skin has a glow and argan oil helps tremendously with my pimples.
