Monistat Chafing Gel and its 101 uses.....
Fri, 07/10/2009 - 6:45pm
Ok-I know that everyone knows that the Monistat chafing gel helps prevent irritation when your thighs rub together. And I know that everyone is now well aware of its awesome power as a face primer. But I found another use that you may or may not know about. My husband and I are trying to do a heavy duty walking routine right now. And we are feeling the blisters. Of course we got the band aid stuff which is supposed to be great. But in my research I discovered that you can rub the Monistat gel on your feet to prevent blisters. Is there anything that this stuff can't do?

Vaseline is also great for preventing blisters. I have never tried monistat as a primer but I know a few other MUAs that rave over it! I'll have to try it one day, its super cheap!
It definitely doesn't give you respect points when you walk around the store with a box of it in your hands :P hahahaha!I actually haven't ever used this "miracle product" but judging by all of the rave reviews I've heard on this site and every other one in existance it seems, I should definitely give it a shot :)

Monistat works wonders on all yeast/fungal infections. Try it on athlete's foot, yeast infection when your thigh's rub, yeast infection under your breast, pimple like sores on your face that could be a fungal or yeast infection and of course, the vg yeast infection! For parents with young ones, most diaper rashes are also yeast infections. Remember yeast infections are red and shiny.

When i first read about the monistat chafing relief gel, and the fact that it could be used as a facialprimer, I was shocked! but that didn't stop me from going out on my lunch break to the local CVS and finding only 1 box on the shelf and it look as though its had been there for months! I bought it and I tried it and I love it! Another place that I use it is under my breast...I have large breast and underneath, this sounds and feels so awkward....OK, here goes....I sweat and my skin is/was always irritated, every morning I apply a thin layer under each boob and I am so Happy to say the irritation has gone! You know...I've thought about getting a breast reduction, my sister thinks I'm crazy, she says she love to have them...O-well Kinda makes me laugh...BUT I am so happy to have found out about the monistat chafing relief gel! Its got a permnate place in my make-up case! Huggs Lisa
i use it from time to time as a primer and it does a decent job.... it is worth to pay 6-7 bucks to test it out, instead of spending quite a larger sum on professional makeup products
Thanks for sharing that Kellie! I'm going to get some of that to try out on my poor feet! I get terrible blisters on my feet when I work out, particularly around the heel and on top of my little baby toe. I'm currently using Dr. Scholl's Heel Relief (it's about $5, comes in a purple tube). I like it because it's a twist up stick, as opposed to having to use your fingers w/the Monistat... but it seems to wear off after an hour or two? Since I'm training for a half marathon, I need something that'll last me for long long runs...I hope Monistat will work even better for me!In response to Sharond, just make sure if it's regular acne, be careful about using monistat! It has dimethicone in it, like Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, which tends to break out oily acne-prone skin. :(

Here is a laugh, I was at a conference recently. Another business associate and I went back to my room because I wanted to change into more comfortable shoes. My friend asked if I happened to have any lotion because her pants were too tight at the waste and digging into her skin. (She claimed he skin was shaffed and raw from her pants.) Guess what I gave her? YES- She did think I lost my mind. But, yes it did work. Even funnier, she bought two when we went to Walgreens. Once for her makeup bag and the other for her car for those just incase pants emergencies.
This Monistat Chafing Relief gel is the best! I read about it here several weeks ago and use it all the time, as a makeup primer and also where my skin chafes--beneath my breasts and around my upper thighs. It is great stuff!
Moema....always a Mom first
I haven't tried this yet, I swear it's always sold out at my CVS! I do love Avon's Magix Primer though.
I really like using the Monistat gel as a face primer. It makes my mmu glide on smoother, and my skin feels SO soft. I did feel a little strange about buying it, but despite having the Monistat brand name, it actually has little to nothing to do with yeast infections, so whatever.I have heard of dimethicones (an ingredient in the Monistat gel) breaking people out, but it hasn't caused breakouts for me, and I have very acne-prone skin.I also love using it on my feet to prevent chafing from flip flop straps!
I put a layer of it on at the very end of my nighttime facial cleansing routine. It seems to help the products absorb into my skin instead of evaporating overnight. After the eye cream, anti-aging serum and night cream, I apply a thin layer of this over face, neck and decolletage.

Even before I joined Meg's, Agrimony had told me about this product. Bought it, tried it, and I love it! Great facial primer!! Now you all have given me some other ideas of uses for it. Thanks!!
I haven't actually ever tried this as a primer, but I've always wanted to. I really should try this on my feet too. I get blisters all the time from my sandals and I wonder how well this would work on them. Right now I'm using something from Bliss, it's a balm stick, I don't remember what it's called. Anyway, it's like $20 and not doing much for me :\
I use this stuff all the time for its intended use, but have never tried it as a primer. I don't think I would like it though because it reminds me of the original smashbox primer, which I don't really like. I use the smashbox primer light now.
Love and Lipgloss,

A primer-really??I feel like it would make me break out?
Saran, if your skin is sensitive to dimethicones, then the Monistat would not make a good primer. I believe dimethicones are in several products marketed as primers, though-- I think the Smashbox contains it (correct me if I'm wrong!). I myself have acne-prone skin that has only recently calmed down thanks to prescription meds, and I use the Monistat maybe 2-3x / week as a primer, and I haven't noticed any breakouts from it.
I bought the monistat primer for only 5$ CAD at Shopper drug mart a few months ago as it was getting discontinued at that location. I found that the consistency is slightly thicker than the smashbox photofinish but still works the same way. Unfortunately it makes me breakout by the end of the day.
I originally purchased it the moment I read the review here. It didn't make me breakout at all, but I didn't love it either. It reminded me a lot of Smashbox primer, which I so don't love, despite trying it numerous times, but since I bought it in a 3 pack, it's good to read about these other uses.
I'm so upset that I cannot find this around me. I would love to find a cheaper alternative to my primer now!
I've used it on my feet too!
I bought mine through the link provided on the review given here. It was from amazon.com, and I think I got a 3 pack for a pretty good price, too.
I really need to get myself a tube of this! I saw it on Amazon, but not sure if I'll need 3 tubes. I supposed I could swap the extras though.
Ugh now that I've heard all of the hype I was really going to go out and buy it.. But neither Walgreens nor Rite Aid had the gel in stock :( Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. I'm also worried about the silicones though, since I have acne-prone skin. Jeez, all of you are such enablers :P

I wanna meet the first woman who decided to stick Monistat on her face. I've never used it before and all I can think of is thick smelly Desitin, is it similar to that ?!!?? And are we talking 2 different kinds like a gel vs a cream?
This is more of a gel. And it is not the monistat that goes on the lady parts. It is for chafing of thighs, boobs, whatever.
HA! thanks Kellie!!! I was a little weirded out. Gel is good. It sounds like it would work wonders withsports bra chaffage, like Body Glide.
Just like Body Glide. My husband and I are also using it to help prevent blisters on our feet during walking.
I would also like to meet the woman who decided to use monistat on her face. I'm sure glad she did though!!
Haha yeah, there are a lot of things like this that make me wonder who first thought of it. The ingredients are pretty much the same as the Smashbox primer though so it makes sense.
I might try this as a face primer since I am running low on the smashbox primer
This is great as a face primer, and essentially has all the same ingredients as some of the more expensive primers.
Hhmm i have to try this i get blisters on my feet the first couple weeks of school when i do the freshmen tours.
;) Gloss & Gum <3
ive only used it as a primer i;; have to try it on my feet too
I LOVE it as a primer!I'll definitely try it on my feet, gotta break in a new pair of flats tomorrow! (err...today?? haha)
sadly, this product didn't work for me at all as a facial primer. it really dried me out (which is probably a good thing for people with oilier skin who use it as primer) and made my already dry skin extra flaky, which is not a good look when using mineral makeup.
I'm so glad to read all the tips on how to use it! I have recently ordered it online and very excited to try it out once it arrives!
OMG, thank you. I have been using it as a primer since the review on here and my boyfriend loves to walk, he walks for at least 2 hours a day, now I know what to bring along instead of moleskin for blisters and it's more convenient since you don't have to cut anything, etc.... I love this product!
i've heard lots of good things about this but i'm always hesitant to try new skin products as my skin breaks out so easily
I need to go buy this!
I want to try it too can you buy it in the UK ???
philogene, I ordered mine off eBay (and I live in Finland). Probably not the cheapest place but I couldn't find any place that delivered it to Finland.
Thanks parakeet let me know what you think of it when you get it and I'll order some too :-)
Monistat chafing gel is a wonderful product! I bought the 3-pack from amazon.com - now refer to it as my lifetime supply. Anyway, originally my plan was to use it as my new fiscally responsible primer. I works great for this purpose - I have no complaints. However, at the moment I also have UD's primer so I use that sometimes too. I can't say no to UD. But thankfully, the Monistat's other uses are super. Thighs, under boobs, feet, I even slather some on my hands. What a nice feel this gives! And when I run out of the Urban Decay primer, I'll be back to using Monistat regularly again. You just can't beat the price! And I actually like it better than Smashbox.

I have a new pair of shoes I need to break in and they are killing my feet! Maybe I will try putting the anti chaffing gel on. They are Sketchers I wear without socks, and whenever I get shoes like this my heels and pinkie toes hurt so much breaking them in. Hopefully this will work and I won't have to go through band aids, medical tape, and gauze trying to break in shoes!
I saw this being used as a primer on youtube and then checked here to see if there was a forum. I decided to go over to Walgreens but they didn't have it. When we went out today we stopped at CVS and they had a whole shelf for. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow when I do my makeup. I have really oily acne prone skin so I hope that it doesn't beak me out. With every product though, you have to just try it to know how you will react. Thanks girls for all your feedback on this. P.S. I would love to know the lady that woke up one day and said "I wonder what would happen if I put monistat on my face?".
I'm going to try it!!
