Little (or big!) Facial "tweeks"...anyone all in?

  • Nips & Tucks! Plastic Surgery Discussion!

Thought I'd expand yet further on the subject,LOL!I have had a "bit of help" and honestly will admit to it if the person asking is a decent sort and not a snipey-beotch and I'm SO glad I've been able to fight the ravages of Mother Nature just a bit...I think life is particularily hard on women, helped along by the media and Photoshop (who can compete, seriously!) and when you look your best, you feel better IMO.Your immune system becomes less-than when you are sad. :(I don't hold to the "natural is better" theory unless it comes to my produce and food and honestly feel that as one "ages",that you simply must have a really good maintainance program in place or join the "Jamie Lee Curtis" gang and let those grey hairs and jelly-belly all hang out! Nothing at all wrong with it,simply not my style.SO....does anyone else agree with having a bit of help here and there or do you think it's better just to accept the consequences of aging and change and cultivate an interesting hobby???I do have a few of those as well,BTW,!

I think I will tweak a little and accept a little.  I don't plan on trying to look thirty-something forever, but I would like to look good for my age.  I have been dying to get botox for that between the brows furrow.  I have worn contacts/glasses since I was 11 and used to be a chronic worrier, so ever since college I've had those two lines between the brows and they have definitely gotten deeper since then.  I wouldn't mind wrinkles somewhere else as much, as these particular ones tend to make you look tired or stressed.  When I had my boobs done and the liposuction all at one time the doctor threw in free fat injections in my upper lip and filled in my marionette lines (nasal-labial folds or smile lines).  I didn't think the marionette line fill made much difference, but then again I was only 24 at the time.  The upper lip injection was good, but unfortunately this gave me a cold sore for the first time in my life and I've gotten one about every two years since.  Apparently any lip injection can cause this to happen.  I might have done it again, but the cost is prohibitive considering that the results only last for three months.     I'll be 37 in July, so who knows what kind of incredible tweaks will be available by the time I'm in my 60's.  They may be way to good to resist...

Mjsred, I love that you brought this up. I think it is fabulous that you had a bit of help.  Why are some women so bitchy and judgmental when it comes to plastic surgery?  A few years ago, I had a nose job. It all started from a medical issue but in the end it was no different then any other nose job. (The long story short: bad migraines, crooked nose putting to much pressure on cranial nerves, blah, blah, blah.....)  The funny thing is that after my surgery I always felt the need to justify my choice for having it done.  As if my procedure was somehow "okay" because of my medical problems.  The truth is, yes the medical issue prompted me but in the end it was the cosmetic side of the surgery that had me going outside of my health plan and paying cash for a damn good nose job (ah hem, if I do say so m'self, LOL!).  Sure I wanted to resolve the medical issues but in the end I wanted a pretty nose too.  It's a personal choice, if it isn't your personal choice, no big deal.  I don't go around criticizing the choices people make regarding their hairstyle, the clothes they wear or the way they apply their makeup.  Aren't all of those things little rituals that we perform to improve upon our appearance? In the end aren't we all simply trying to look and feel our best?I can't help but feel that it involves too much negative energy to go around criticizing other people's choices. Besides, my six year old and I are working on taking a much more positive approach to life.  Lizzy and I feel that we should all act a little more like Sponge Bob Squarepants.  He never intentionally hurts anyone, is beautifully simplistic, works hard, is always optimistic, and is a very loyal friend. Works for me.

I love Sponge Bob too!  Also your nose is adorable.  It is a damn good nose job.  Your nose looks so pretty and totally natural.  There are way to many bad jobs out there and you can spot them a mile away.

I am pretty positive that I won't have any actual elective surgery done. In general this is because I have had plenty of non-elective surgery. And I hate it. That being said I used to think that I would never die my hair to look younger. But I am pretty sure that I have no problem with that now. I think that people shouldn't feel like they have to do something to be more beautiful. But for something serious such as surgery, if the individual has really thought through it all and knows that it is right for them, then I say go for it. But it should always be for themselves and not for the benefit of others. But people do tend to be "judgey" on this issue. Which is of course ridiculous. If someone feels really good about making a physical change and it is safe, then more power to them.  I am having some breast cancer concerns/issues. Not sure where I am with it all. But I have begun dipping into the breast reconstruction information just in case I need to. This body image stuff is tricky! But the bottom line is that it is a major personal choice. I hope that if I have to make the choice that I am able to feel confident in my decisions like all of you beyond lovely, wise, and confident ladies!

Ageing frightens the crap out of me,but I am the biggest chicken ever,so Im hoping as time goes by surgery becomes less and less invasive and more and more painless,I guess what frightens people too is that the press tend to focus on the horror pictures of some celebrities and less so on those who look amazing,I would love to know what madonna had done lately, her face looks amazing, stylemama your a great advertisment for your surgeon, totally natural, you all look great, which goes to show as long as you dont go nuts with stuff and are very clear what you want, you can kick father times ass.

Ladies, you are my new heroes! I have been contemplating having some (ok..major) work done. I mean, just look at my profile, my picture, I don't think make-up can help me. I am hideous! So I have been talking to my friends and they are so against any type of surgery, they make me feel horrible just thinking about it. But Stylemamma said it best...its a personal choice. And aren't we all entitled to our personal choices? I don't know you, but I thank you for your kind words, even if they weren't meant for me directly. Ok...I'll sit on the shrinks couch...LOL...I have always been insecure about my looks. Look at me, I know I am not pretty. Trust me, if you agree, which you should, you will not be hurting my feelings. It is what it is. But, after reading your "blog" here, all the comments, I will do what I WANT to do, what will make me happy and if my friends don't support me, then I guess they aren't really my friends anyway.
Sorry to vent to all of you. Like I said, I feel like I have been on a shrinks couch!!!  LOL

Billie,      It's 14 years after I got my surgery (liposuction and boob job) and I'm still enjoying the results.  In fact when I think back to actually getting it done, it was such an exciting time.  It's very empowering to take control of the way you look.  Why shouldn't you look on the outside the way you feel on the inside.  You should follow your heart in this, as in all things.  Just make sure you find a reputable doctor.  Make sure to do some independent research and see what people are saying about that doctor's work.  Good luck!

Each of you lovely ladies just made my whole night, thank you! Billie you have definitely come to the right place for these type of discussions and advice. First off, You aren't hideous and should never say things like that about yourself.  Negative self-talk is very damaging and we all have to fight against negative thinking.  I am in awe of the women on this site. We are talking serious wisdom, sincerity, intelligence and LOVE.  I mean just look at what mjsred, kellie76, potionprincess and Indi all have in common; HONESTY. Does it get any better than that?  Like Indi so wisely states, if you ever make the choice to have elective surgery done, make sure you go to the absolute best doctor you can find. When I had my nose done, it cost me twice as much as what other doctors had quoted me.  I paid through the nose (sorry couldn't resist) for my excellent surgeon's skill, expertise and WISDOM. He came highly recommended.  Not that high fees automatically mean high quality, but I do believe that low fees are something you should be very wary of; be careful. All right ladies, it's us against Father Time.  Are you in? Our team motto, like Indi says, "tweak a little, accept a little".  Do I hear matching t-shirts?

Speaking of face work and money, I spent $1200 on "Thermage", heard of it?  Its some type of energy zapped into skin, hurts extreme.  It felt like my jaw was going to explode.  I had it done from cheekbones down to under jaw line,  it is supposed to cause skin to tighten.  Yes it worked, just enough thatt I can see a difference, but I doubt anyone else can tell. I've noticed my forehead is the tiniest bit crepe-y, compared to fairly tight face, so I guess I  will say it is beneficial.  If you use a magnifier mirror, like of course I do.  I had thermage at the same place in West Bloomfield, MI that I got my scarless saline lovlies.  290 cc's just perfect, filled in the empty sacs.

It's so strange that in our society, we are pressured to have the perfect body. We're too fat, too thin, too tall, too short, too dark, too light, too this or that... So we're encouraged to buy thousands of dollars worth of products to make us "better"... But cosmetic surgery is so frowned upon! I personally don't hold it against anyone for having surgery. People can have their own opinions about it. But don't be rude and don't judge them.

I had Lasik eye surgery 5 years ago and it's the BEST BEST thing I've ever done. Goodbye contact lenses and goodbye glasses. It is so worth it. I would love to go for hair laser removal for my hair line in the back and I have a little bit of sideburns, I know gross. But my hair is light and you can't really see it but it bugs me. Oh and my arm pitts. I would love not to have to shave my arm pitts anymore, especially when my husband and I go on few days camping/hiking trips, this would be awsome. As anyone ever had hair laser removal? And would you recommend it? I would love to get any advise before I take the plunge. I think this is a very personal thing and everyone should do what will make them feel good and happy. No judgment here! Each is own! I Love indi's comment "tweak a little and accept a little".  This is one of my favorite post, All your comments are so touching and beautiful. Stylemama I love your nose! Kellie76 my heart goes out to you and hope all will be ok. I'll keep you in my prayers and sending positive energy your way. mjsred thanks for starting this post your awesome. I honestly think it all depends on the person.I, personally, doubt I'll ever get any work done, but then again I'm only 21. Things like Botox, needles, doctors, surgery, etc. all scare me ridiculously. I think there's nothing wrong with getting "tweeks". Whatever makes you happy. It's a good investment in my opinion, and if it makes you feel better about yourself, why not?

Oh BTW, Lulu, My bf had laser hair removal.  Her only advice to me regarding the issue was be aware that when they tell you it should only take 3 treatments, they really mean 8.  Also, if you have darker skin (she's very fair) you have to be very careful.  According to her, the darker your pigment the more risk involved with Laser Treatment (burns, etc.).  I have hyperpigmentation, so I have always been very wary.  I know that's not much information, perhaps a starting point.  Good Luck to you.

I am a true believer in making the little changes that give a smile in the mirror.  Just make sure that you get the best physician possible.  Do exactly what they say for pre-op preparations, and follow their instructions afterwards.  I've seen a few flake-outs from patients, and it sort of ruined some of the results.  Everyone is given something different in this big world, and sitting in judgment is nothing but a waste of a good day.
