Just ran my first 10K today! Any other runners out there?
Sun, 09/13/2009 - 7:45pm
Finished in 1 hr 6 minutes (10:34 min miles). I'm just so excited that I did it, that I didn't stop and walk, and I feel so proud of my body for being able to work so hard!I'm looking forward to another 10K or two in October, as well as my half marathon. While running races is a bit spendy, it's fun to be part of the running community and put my money to a good cause. AND, it makes me commit to running a long run! :PAny other Megheads who are runners?

Congratulations!I did a 5k a couple of years ago and loved it. I should get back into running a little bit, I'm unemployed so I have ample time for training.
Good for you! I'm so not a runner, but I envy you your dedication!
Congrats! I'm definitely more a couch potato myself, but that's awesome for you :) I have a cousin who's big into running and my dad has been on and off the past year or so too (he was slowing down with it because the doc said it wasn't good for him), he ran a 5k last Thanksgiving. I really admire the drive!
That's awesome, congrats!!!I just started jogging with my boyfriend last week. Right now we're just doing 1 min run 1 min walk for half an hour. Every week or so we'll increase it to where we'll mostly run. We both need to get in shape and figured we'd do it together. I was a runner in college and loved it. I'm hoping to get back to the point where I can run without being so out of breath and exhausted! I was thinking of signing up for a short run, maybe a 3k to keep me motivated. Any advice that you may have for a new weary runner would be much appreciated!!Congrats again!
It was so hard for me to get motivated to start running. I don't have a gym membership, and at first, if my workout buddy wasn't working out, I didn't. But now I'm more comfortable running outside by myself :) You can do it!

sorry, that last comment was meant for KingTaco!saran--That is an awesome training program you have going for you! Run/walking is a great technique in my opinion, because while you aren't running the whole thing, you are exercising for the whole time/distance goal. Intervals of running and walking are good for runners of all abilities :) I'm no expert though... If you want some really good advice, I look to runnersworld.com (they also have great healthy recipes!). As for my own personal things: -Get workout clothes that make you feel good (running tights really help me [I esp like the ones with pockets for my phone and keys] and a good sports bra!, my iPod [although I'm actually enjoying running without it right now, but it's definitely useful], some good shoes and socks, BandAid Blister Block or Glide. -GET A WORKOUT BUDDY! OR TEN!! The more workout buddies that you have, the easier it is to find someone who will work out with you and keep you accountable. -Signing up for races is a really good motivator for me. That way I have something to work towards, and that I've paid for and committed to. Usually the money goes towards a good cause, and it's fun to meet other runners (they're usually pretty friendly!). I don't run to win, but I do run to improve each time :)

Thank you for the advice, I will definitly check out that site! I really should invest in some good sports bras. Right now I have ones from Old Navy and I have to wear 2 to be comfortable! I have to have my ipod, it keeps me going!! Although I must make a new playlist. What are the running tights, I never heard of them?
I just looked them up....I will pick up a pair soon!
saran--I personally like the capri variety better than the long ankle length ones, because I can wear them when it's pretty hot, or when it's cooler. I personally am obsessed with my Nike ones because they have a pocket, are moisture wicking, and fit me well. However, Target sometimes has other brand ones that are also moisture wicking but much cheaper. I didn't see any last time I was at Target, but I look every time I go (though they did have some great sports bras at my local Target on clearance!) Hope that helps :)

Hey There Ms BlueDevil Kitty!Fabulous job!!! I am working at trying to get to the gym again regularly.Thank you for the inspiration!
I used to run all the time. I was just thinking of joining a running group last week. Congrats Bluedevilkitty! You should be proud of yourself. Also wanted to mention the tank with a criss cross by Lululemon is the best for running. Very supportive! Artcandy
