I did it!!! No More Temptation...

Thu, 07/23/2009 - 9:28pm
  • Body Buff! Diets That Actually Work!

I have been meaning to go through our cabinets and toss out all the junk food. Well tonight I did it! I went and tossed everything that was crap. The only think I kept were the 100 calorie bars that we have. Last night I printed out this grocery list I found on the HungryGirl website and I am gonna go through it and go to the grocery store and get alot of the stuff I found on it. My fiance and I are bound and determined to lose weight, and I am hoping that tossing the crap and getting alot of the stuff on that grocery list will be a step in the right direction.
The only part of this that is going to be hard is breakfast. I have to be up so early and by the time I get to work, I am starving. I dont get up early enough to eat anything because I really just want to sleep in as long as I can (I have to be up by 4:30am to make it to work by 5:45am - yuck!). So by the time I get to work, I always stop at McDonalds and get an ice tea and breakfast. And the days I dont, I go to the cafeteria at work and get my ice tea, and I always end up getting a breakfast burrito. Not the greatest decision in the world. They do have fresh fruit and yogurt available, but I always end up going for the burrito.
But tomorrow is a fresh start, I will be strong and not get the #3 at McDonalds, or that breakfast burrito. Lord give me strength lol

I'm super proud of you dear for your decision - I would never have the willpower to throw away all of the junk food I have lying around the house! Good luck with eating healthy! If I may suggest it (I believe there are recommendations on Hungry Girl too), I would recommend getting some good breakfast bars - they're quick, easy, cheap breakfast that isn't terrible for you :) They're great for me because I like to sleep in as much as I can, and I can eat a breakfast bar in the car.

Good luck! It's hard to break old old habits, but you can do it :) Also, I strongly recommend premaking breakfasts the night/weekend before, so you can just throw something in the microwave and go! :)

Oh and my mom used to do this all the time.Make up a ton of breakfast burritos and then freeze them. Pop them in the mocro in the morning. If you make them yourself you can do healthy style.  Use the 96 percent fat free torillas.  Egg substitute. Try the morning star (veggie and soy) breakfast sausage! Its really good actually!!! or the morning star bacon and cut it up in the burritos.Hope this helps you out... Just make up like 20 of them! Cuts down on cost and time in the morning!

Good luck!!  Smart Ones make some really good and fairly healthy breakfast things, including burritos, and you could just pop it in the microwave while you get ready and eat it in the car.  At least a small step up from McDonald's and no need to wake up earlier!

Good luck!  If you have a crock pot, try making some oatmeal.  When you wake up in the morning, just dump some in a tupperware and eat that when you get to work.  I've been eating oatmeal even though I'm supposed to be low-carbing, and it REALLY helps keep me full and happy.  I put sugar-free maple-flavored syrup on it too.

GOOD JOB! You can do it!  Its so much easier to avoid temptation if it just simply isn't there.  Drive right by the McDonalds!  If you're super hungry in the morning like I am, try oatmeal/porridge.  There are some good recipes on HungryGirl or you can get the instant oatmeal packets - just watch that you're not getting ones with all sorts of flavour and sugar, beacuse that will defeat the purpose.  They fill you up forever and so you wno't even want to eat McDs or that burrito!

WTG, Jennmarie!  You are definitely on the right track.  I have been successful by following the Weight Watcher program (online) and using Hungry Girl suggestions for staying out of danger!   My best strategy has been to try not to get hungry!  That means carrying emergency food with me when I'm out and about.  Fiber One bars are great for this - as are little 100 calorie bags of almonds. One thing I strongly encourage you to do is to find Vitalicious muffins and muffin tops and brownies.  They can be hard to find, but the Kroger in my town carry them with the frozen natural foods.  If you can't find them, order them online.  My fave is the Cran Bran Vitatops.  Delicious AND filling AND low calorie/high fiber.  You can do this, and you'll be so glad you did.  My blood pressure is so much better, I have more energy, and I like wearing those clothes I haven't been able to fit into for a while!

Try making your breakfast in batches. http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=14505This is a super yummy recipe that is great on the go. Nothing fried or greasy, just substitute the pork sausage with turkey sausage! And get some individual bottles of apple juice, no sugar added. Then in the morning, you can grab a cold bottle of juice and pop this cute little breakfast bite in the microwave and be on the way out the door with a healthier and yummy breakfast! You can even save time not going to the drive through every morning =)Good luck staying away from the snacks! I am obsessed with cooking so let me know if u need any really yummy and healthy dessert/snack recipes!

Here is the easiest breakfast around - Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt (I like fig when it's available,) Honey or other flavors. Open, sprinkle on Trader Joe's Cherry Almond Clusters. Enjoy the chewy, anitoxidant-loaded cherries, the essential-fatty acids in the almonds, the fiber in the cereal, the calcium in the yogurt, and the loads of healthy live cultures to help boost your immune system and give you energy to lose weight and smile at the same time.  I know - it's worked for me.  You won't need anything else but a spoon.  I eat  it unmixed, one layer at a time - it's quite satisfying, and easy to grab-and-go. With summer fruits abounding, I've also sprinkled on a few blueberries, or raspberries, or blackberries.  I've also packed it for a snack - a healthy pick-me-up for the two p.m. cravings....

Good job!!! Good luck! It's the first week thats the hardest I think.  The breakfast part is what always gets me to.  I like making smoothies out of frozen fruit though.  It's light and fast and you can take it with you.  Get a magic bullet and it'll be even easier.Another of my favourites is mini quiches made in muffin cups.  They freeze well and you can use whatever filling you want.

I would consider trying boiled eggs or oatmeal.  Personally, I always have oatmeal packets in my desk.  This way I do not have any excuses.I also try to have some carrots and veggies with me.  If you have food on hand you won't be as tempted when someone brings donuts or another baked good.good luck.

I went to the store and loaded up on stuff, and of course the ONE thing I forgot was oatmeal and the low fat tortillas to make my burritos lol So far so good though, I was a little grumpy Friday and Saturday, must have been withdrawls lol I am ok now though. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I actually do feel better already :)

Good for you!! I know how hard it is to toss all the yummy snacks and replace them with healthy ones (which in time will become just as yummy!!). I did a weight watchers free 7-day trial a few months back, and in just one week it taught me so much about how to eat right. I never needed to sign up because you pick up quickly on what is good for you and what is not so good. I now eat pretty healthy, although I do reward myself more than once in a while! All the healthy foods that I have dreaded before have now become just as delicious as all the crap I was eating!!

Taking that first step of throwing everything away is a HUGE step.  Awesome job!  I would definitely try to ake breakfasts ahead of time in single serving portions and freeze them.  That way you're never left empty handed and driving up to McD's.

Congrats that you made that step towards healthy eating!! (I sound like a motivational speaker). I myself just started a "diet" of sorts, cutting out as much white flour, sugar, processed foods, etc. from my diet for health reasons. I'm sick and tired of feeling, well, sick and tired all the time, and I know that eating better will help. For breakfast, I would suggest oatmeal! Buy a huge tube of the old fashioned rolled oats. They only take about 4 minutes to microwave and zero prep time. Add a dash of milk and some raisins and you're set to go! I'd think that would take equal or less time than going to McDs and paying/waiting for your food. Plus, oatmeal is really healthy for you. It provides fiber, which can lower cholesterol and keeps you feeling fuller longer.

Good luck!! I think the idea of making breakfast burritos ahead of time and freezing them is a great idea, I wouldn't have thought of that! Also oatmeal.. when I remember to eat breakfast, it's usually my go-to choice. It's hearty and it leaves you feeling satisfied. You could also maybe try making a bento-style breakfast box the night before.. add in things like granola and fruit, that will fill you up but are still healthy.
