Hair Rollers that are Fast and Work Wonders
Tue, 11/03/2009 - 8:20am
K, girls....I'm on a mission to find hair rollers that work great. A style that I love is when the hair on the top is smooth and straight down to about the shoulders and then the rest is curled with rollers. My problem is I don't know the best way to achieve this look. 1. I have thick course hair that usually need to be straightened.2. Time is a important factor...having three little kids. 3. I want to choose a roller that is easy to use, and makes my hair shine ( is ionic the type that would work best?) 4. Any suggests on rolling technique would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance for any suggestions. Artcandy

alot of people have commented on how much they love culformers. They have them at sallys i think.
Tan is Love
I have some hot rollers that I picked up at Target for $20. I.LOVE.THEM. I just start rolling at the bottom of my hair and pin it to my scalp, and I get bouncy waves at the bottom and just a little bit of volume at the top, maybe that is the style you are looking for. I do have pretty thin hair though, so I dont know how that would work on thick hair.
Thanks...will check it out at Target when i'm in the U.S.

Robyn, I absolutely swear by Caruso Steam Rollers, and have been using them for years. My hair is so long and heavy, nothing else will put a curl in it, but when I use these steam rollers, the curls last 2 to 3 days. The rollers heat up in seconds, and best of all, since they use steam, they cause zero damage to your hair. I think folica.com has a really good price on them. This is a definite Holy Grail item for me!
Gigi, there really is magic in these rollers, isn't there? As you said, it's almost.....freaky how great they are. I'm going to use your tip about using the steam for pore cleansing. Smart thinking! ;-)
100% I agree with jaynewayne and Gigi...Caruso steam curlers ROCK. I used to have fine straight hair and nothing would hold a curl but these...and for a FEW DAYS!Now that my hair has gone curly and crazy I use these from time to time when I want to tone down my natural curl and have a softer look. Plus the steam makes your hair SHINY!Folica, Amazon, Ebay...they are everywhere. I think I got the best price on Amazon. You won't be disappointed!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
Thanks so much girls for suggesting these curlers. Now off I go to find a good price. Can I also ask you how to use them if your really busy? I can't imagine sleeping in them? Do they take long to work? Can you use them in dry hair?

ooh I used to have Caruso steam rollers in high school, those were AMAZING. I might have to see if they are still available.
The Caruso rollers are going on my wishlist. My curls are pretty unpredictable, so those sound perfect for fixing sections that misbehave. I love how quickly they seem to work, too! And anything natural that can put a shine into my hair is definitely a plus.
So I'm just about to order my rollers....and I have a question to ask. If I like the look of loose big curls in long hair. Am I best to order the one on sale an folica.com and order extra rollers?? I think the only advantage to the bigger roller machine for $69.95 is that you can use it in other countries and it comes with sizes I wont use. Anyone have any expertise on what extra rollers to order? ...Large or jumbo? Thanks so much.

I have pretty thick hair, when I use hot rollers I use three different sizes and place them all differently around my head. This way I get a lot of volume and different sizes of curl, and it looks just a little "messier"
Robyn, I have super long and thick hair, and also like the look you describe. I find that I really only use the large rollers. The jumbo ones just give you a bit of bend and body, and would be good if you like to get a bit of height at the crown area. For a tousled, beachy waves look, you can wrap the rollers in different directions, and use varying amounts of hair. Also, you can twist your hair before you roll it. These curlers are very versatile and if you play around with them, you'll discover what works best for you. If I were you, I'd get the smaller unit and order extra large rollers. Hopefully, Gigi will return to this thread and comment...she's had lots of experience with this product. Good luck! ;-)
What in heavens name am I doing wrong with my Caruso rollers? I have thick very fine hair and my styles DON'T last, I love these rollers, but wish I could find the staying power that everyone talks about. What are you using on your hair before you style? I have yet to find anything that really works for my weird hair!! Thanks for any input!!
Scat, is it possible you are wrapping too much hair in each roller? Maybe reducing the amount might help? One thing that helps to lock in the curl for me, is to blast each curler with some hot air from your dryer, after you roll your hair. Also, be sure that the curlers have completely cooled off before you remove them. Hope this helps! :-)
Thank you for responding to me Jaynewayne, I hadn't tried the blasting it with the hot air from the dryer yet, I'll have to give that a try. I also just got a bottle of Sally Hershberger Supreme lift for normal to thin hair, so I am hoping that this will help....Not sure if I read about it here or somewhere else, but I am looking forward to trying it! Thanks again! :)
