Great Service Needs to Be Applauded

I had the best service at ( of all places) "Mac." Thought she was so good that she needed to be mentioned. So I drafted up a letter to send off. So often when we get bad service... off we go to complain. But when it's great service...(stands out and really makes you think how this employee went out of their way to help you) that its rarely mentioned. I always think of this movie, "Pay It Forward" (Though it is a little different then sending a compliment.) It's amazing how recognizing someones strengths and letting it be known, can make a person's day. I am sure that when we all get a compliment we have a BIG SMILE on our face and do something nice for someone else.

This society seems to have a what's-in-it-for-me? attitude and I much prefer yours. I compliment businesses and others when they truly deserve it (hey, if I'm hit by a bus tomorrow, God forbid, I want people to know what I think!). I've been like that all of my life, but when I first taught at a very tough high school, I was exasperated and hated my kids. An older teacher said to me, "Keep in mind that you may be the best part of someone's day." Point taken! Once I recognized their strengths and individual talents, it became a dream job! Sometimes I'll follow vehicles which ask "How Is My Driving?" When the driver obeys travel rules and uses turn signals (a lost art in my area), I phone the number listed and always hear, "Thank you for calling. What is the problem?" The representatives nearly faint when I don't complain but tell them what the driver did correctly. What a great topic!
I agree 100%!!! I apprecaite good service as well and often write or email to praise a deserving person or company. We need to remember that common courtesy is a HUGE part of who we are, even in this hectic world! Thanks for the reminder!
That's a really nice thing to do. As someone who works in retail management, I cannot tell you the lengths that people will go to to make a complaint, usually because they want something for free, but when someone goes out of their way to provide great service, it's rare if they even ask for the manager to pass along a compliment.
UGH! I had a terrible time at the MAC counter today, I was there for 10 minutes (nobody else was there) and the sales people just talked amongst themselves, shortly after, the counter was mobbed with fifteen costumers and they still didn't help me!!!!!
Interesting. I was having this same kind of conversation with my husband not too long ago. I had read an article on doing an experiment in your life. Just talk about the positive. Not drasticly becoming a cheerleader type, just basicly not talking about the negative. And when speaking keeping it neutral or positive. I don't think I'm negative at all and then I tried this experiment for almost a whole day (baby steps. besides I have three teenagers. cut me some slack!). Wow, when you actually attempt to do this in your own life, it sure is surprising to see how much you have to hold yourself back from saying because it would have been 'not-positive'. Even the smallest of comments. It's like re-teaching yourself to approach life in a healthier way. Giving others complements will then be natural. See only the good and overlook the negative. That was a great example to be sort of like pay-it-forward. Try it. You will like it, and most importantly you will like yourself.
I totally agree, and make a point of letting management know when I've had great service. (It has been few and far between lately!) But it's a good rule for life as well.

Victoria, thanks for the idea, I'm going to try that tomorrow!
Victoria1, That's exactly what I did this summer. It was hard at first, and like you said it needs to come out natural instead of preacher like. What I do is try to pick a positive point to a daily challenge, then I always point this out to my children. Soon after you practice it, you see that being positive has the power to change the way you feel... as feelings come from the thoughts. Artcandy

I recently wrote a letter about some great customer service I had when switching credit cards. It made me feel good to know that the informative woman who helped me would get recognition for the great job she did.
