Ever stopped someone to ask them where to get something their wearing?
I was watching a woman in a store with the most beautiful coat on. I kept looking at her admiring how good it looked on her. Could I build up the courage to ask her where she got it? Or would I go on a mad obsessive hunt to find something similar or the exact one? We walked out of the store at the same time, and I built up the courage to tell her how beautiful the coat was, and if she would mind me asking her where she bought it from? Let me describe it to you. It comes in all colors. I bought black. It's a long sweater coat with the perfect amount of ruffles all along it. It's delicate and sexy. I came home almost bolting in the door to get on the web site. The reviews were wonderful and funny enough...said that when it is worn...a lot of woman get compliments on it. I just saved up my money today and bought myself a early birthday gift, I can't wait until it comes!!!

I don't think I'd have the guts to do that. It takes a TON of courage for me to even give a random person a compliment. I've complimented people on their nail polish before though. :) Care to share with us the website for the coat you are getting? I'd love to see it! I LOVE coats, I always end up getting a few new ones every winter, even though I don't need them all.

Oops, sorry that's what I forgot. The store name is Anthropoligie. I wish we had one here in Vancouver as I would love to work here. I absolutely love most of the items. The colors and the design on the web page are beautiful. I took my time just looking through all the beautiful pictures. The name of the jacket is under the section: sweater coat. It's called a Gumcoat. The picture itself is o'k but seeing the actual jacket is even more beautiful. It makes a person look skinny and elegant. It could be worn with jeans, or a dress. When I called the store they said it was selling very well.Artcandy

Yes i do that alot!!!! I cant help it i have to-although sometimes i cant pluck up the courage so i ask my sister or mum to do it (i shope with them alot and they are not shy!)I saw a girl looking at fake tans for ages in a shop the other week and i had found a great one for £5 the week before in a shop upstairs so i went and told her about it (it was embarrassing but i just couldnt keep a beauty bargain to myself when i could see how much trouble she was having trying to find one!)
I ask people all the time! lol I dont care about courage or not, I just want it! lol
aha, i don't do it OFTEN... and not to complete strangers! But i'll do it to someone I'm meeting for the first time from mutual friends.
ive never actually stopped someone somewhere. But I ask people ALL the time at work. I work at starbucks. lol I always ask where people get their hair colored if it looks particulARLY GREAT!
Tan is Love
I simply love everything that is Anthropologie. I bought a beautiful mahogany colored Italian leather bag there two summers ago and get compliments on it all the time.

gosh i stopped asking people where they get their lovely things since last year when i worked at a cosmetics dept store. My manager encouraged us to build a conversation, comment on how nice their necklace, nails, clothes, hair looked, where they got it from etc. And it all went really well, i was behind the counter a lot and everyone was walking out of my dept with a smile after purchase. Until one day, a lady with amazing lashes (i assumed that they were stitched on or something because it was incredibly long, but very pretty). So i commented on how great her lashes looked and asked her where she got it done (it's like saying how pretty someone's nails are and where they had it done..) but this lady got really offended, she told me where she got it done and glared at me for the next few minutes, lol. so now i just make a mental note of what i like and shop around for it :\

I tell ladies on a regular basis that they have great shoes, bags, coats, etc. I've never asked where any one has bought anything though.
Wow that coat is super cute, I kinda want it now haha. My cousin actually just started working for Anthropologie, wonder what kind of discount she gets...

Yes I do ask people - but I do this at work (when people come into the store) rather than go up to people.Usually the majority of stuff I like is either 2 years old or comes from somewhere overseas! Argh.
I dont know if i found the right one? gumshoe sweatercoat? well if so I love it, i want the navy blue one! soooo nice! good find!
Yes, it's the gumshoe sweatercoat. Didn't know it came in blue. Just thought it was beige, and purple. Will have to check the site.

I've not asked about clothing, but one day in Chicago I was on the sidewalk and saw this perfect haircut on this guy. I asked him where he got it cut--he told me, and was flattered that I asked. I went to that salon until I moved.I would urge anyone to ask the person wearing or sporting something you like., Most will be flattered and happy to tell you.
I do that too! :) good to know I'm not alone. The other day I recommended a ton of stuff to people in Sephora that couldn't get the SA's attention. I love helping people out like that, esp. when it's dealing with stuff I'm more than interested in. (I'd go for a career in personal shopping if I wasn't the type that would pick up extra things for myself while on the job :)

Anthropologie is my favorite store in all the world!!! They also own Urban Outfitters, which is a pretty cool store as well. And I have no problem going up to total strangers and asking where they got something, I do it all the time. Maybe from working in retail, it's not an issue. I mean, people do it to me, and I never mind.
I've NEVER done that to a random person. lol It happens to me all the time though.

I got asked this morning, at the bank, where I bought my winter coat (reddish orange persimmon color) and the other day I asked a girl where she got her leather bomber jacket. It fit her like a dream.

It depends on the circumstances, for me. I won't go up to someone if they're occupied, but say we're waiting in line somewhere and I notice the woman near me wearing a fabulous ______, if she turns in my direction or I don't have to tap her to get her attention, I'll comment and ask where she got it. That's how I initially learned about and fell in love with UD, asking a girl where she got her AMAZING purple e/s!
