Cosmetic Tattoos
Ladies, I'd like to hear your thoughts on cosmetic tattooing. Would you ever get it done - why or why not? Is the possibility of a poor result more than you're willing to risk? Do you think having makeup permanently tattooed on would take away half the fun of playing with new makeup looks? As I've mentioned on my profile, I have fine, sparse, blonde eyebrows. They do not show up on my face. Whoopi may be able to pull the I-have-no-eyebrows look off, but I can't. So I draw mine on, which is kind of a pain to do every day. I've seen articles about cosmetic tattoos and read a little bit about them, but I am not convinced that it would be a great thing to do. First, it would hurt. What if I winced at a bad moment and ruined it? I could end up looking like Spock or one of these people! http://www.funtasticus.com/20081007/funny-eyebrows/Or what if the eyebrow tattoo migrates down my face as I get older? I'd have wonky eyeliner instead of eyebrows, oh the horror! lol. Kidding aside, would any of y'all get cosmetic tattoos? Have any of you gotten something tattooed? Or do you know anyone that has cosmetic tattoos? I'd love to hear your opinions, stories, comments, and results!

I have my eyebrows, eyeliner, lipcolor & lipliner tattooed on and think that with very little exception it was the best money I ever spent. I'm naturally a dishwater blonde (I think!) and my eyebrows were lame and wussy - no more!! they are perfect and the amazing woman that did them used two colors to create a perfect compliment to my skin tone. Added benefit is that it's super easy to keep them groomed as I basically just have to yank out what's not in the line!I opted for eyelash enhancement in brown rather than black - again - blonde. But also because black has a tendency to 'blue' over time and I'm not so hip to that. I LOVE it on my upper lid and it's very natural looking but do not love the lower lashes. It's not that the job wasn't done well - it certainly was - it's just that even with lash enhancement rather than traditional liner the lower eye is more visible. This is anatomy rather than technique - she couldn't correct the fact that eyes open and we're always looking down at lower lashes - therefore everything shows up more - but at least nothing is sliding down my face! It's really easy to with both upper and lower to still use whatever color eyeliner or shadow I want and when I'm wearing my requisite 15 pounds of mascara it's perfect I think the lower lashes look a bit 'done' when I'm not wearing makeup at all.Ok the lips? I have full lip color in a light, light berry color with a dead ringer of Mac Spice lipliner in a thick, blended line and I'm 1000% thrilled giddy with the results. I can still wear any color I want over what's there but I my lips also look really nice with nothing but gloss. Now I'm sure this is largely due to the woman that did them - she's here in the OKC area and is quite simply aMAZing!! She matched what was my favorites to create a base that stand well alone but also for whatever I want to do additionally. 'Best money ever spent!
I have a friend who has work similar to yours stephanie from the sounds of it and she too is BEYOND thrilled with the results!I'd do my sparse brows in a heartbeat...I'd also extensively research and look at the examples the artist had to show of their work and be willing to pay for the "good stuff" as I do believe it's out there!
Thanks for the input ladies!
If you ever decide to get your lips done, please make sure you take medication for cold sores (fever blisters) even if you aren't prone to them. My cousin had her lips tattooed, but passed on the meds because she'd never had a fever blister in her life. She developed no less than 15 lesions, and her top lip was so swollen it actually touched her nose. It also wrecked the color, and left it splotchy. She can't face redoing it, but it is fading....

Now for me, I would say NO WAY. What if you want to change colors, or the artist isn't such a great artist, or what you chose goes out of style. Think of what it will look like when you hit your golden years. I can just hear some little kid going "Grandma, what is that crooked line on your face?" I think there are enough cosmetics so you can do what you want. Maybe I am old fashioned! No tattoos for me.

The only thing that makes sense to me is having eyeliner tattooed. I think any other procedure will sag over time. Your eyebrows drop, lips get fine lines around them, or the color may go out of style I.E. hot pink lipstick tattooed.
i love and am i big fan of tattoed eye brows, they are all different, there are no "styles" that will fade away with brows. gof ro it, just get facts and pics of somehting that you would like ot use as a guideline :) and of coarse, tell us all about it!!!

i want to try it for my eyebows and lip liner
I would never, ever get this done. Anything permanent just seems scary, especially whenever we all know that tattoos fade over time. I'd be afraid of the results whenever I got old. Wrinkles, fine lines, sagging....plus permanent tattoo that was put there in your 20's or 30's? No thanks!I had a friend that got her eye liner and brows done. I thought the eyeliner looked nice, but the brows were pretty awful. They were black (like a normal tat) and really rounded. She was thrilled though, so whatever makes her happy right?
I had my eyeliner done. ( Just the top). I remember being so upset after the procedure. Honestly I could not take my eyes off the mirror as I thought I did the wrong thing. I would think to myself what if I have to walk around like this for the next 5-7 years! Also the swelling on the eyes is not a pretty site. It takes it least a few days to calm down. Then usually each side goes down on its own so they can be mismatched at first. Also the tattoo itself is enlarged because of the swelling. I was glad the lady who did mine opted for a thicker liner as when the swelling goes down you are left with only a tiny line. I know one girl who went through the procedure and was very unhappy as you couldn't see the line. The only regret I have is the colour. It's been 5 years and I found the black went to a blue black colour. Artcandy

I'd only get permanent makeup if my brows were very sparse (as you say yours are) or if my lip line wasn't right. That's just me anyway.
i cannot do permanent make up. i dint wanna look the same everytime and plus i hate the way tattooed brows look

Carmel Diva - I don't know if I agree with you about eyeliner staying put. Your eyes can get awfully wrinkly awfully quick. Personally, I feel that cosmetic tatoos are like regular tatoos - if you don't know how the skin will change over time and/or you can't cover it up if you need to-- Don't do it.

My aunt had tattoo eyeliner and tattoo eyebrows done and it looks much too harsh in my opinion. I could mayyybe see doing eyeliner, but I don't mind throwing a little brow powder on. And that way I can adjust the shape too :) If it works for you though, that's great!

Wow are those pictures for reals? I have tattoos but I wouldn't get cosmetic tattoos I agree it looks too harsh and its just not my style. My grandmother got her eyebrows tattooed and I think they did a horrible job. I say don't risk it.

Yuck! If your going to get these done...I would opt for minimal and natural. My advise...it's better to have less then more.Artcandy

Thanks for my laugh of the day! I finally looked at those great eyebrow pics. YIKES! I guess I'm not doing so badly with my nearly invisible brows. At least, I can improve matters with a bit of eyebrow powder.

I looked at the brow pics... WOWWW. EEEEK. While my brows aren't perfect, I agree w/Carole--at least they don't look like THAT!!! D: I know that some ladies really like the fake eyebrow look, but honestly, I think that natural is best. But that's just my opinion.

I just looked at the pic's. That is sad. I now totally appreciate my thinning brows. No more complaining for me.

I would never get my makeup tattooed... skin changes over time, and trends change too.

Cosmetics tatoo isnt really pretty maybe the first month but after it will only get worst ! and the colors change really quickly ! and I don't find it glamour !

I agree with most of the girls here, I don't care for the look of cosmetic tattoos and it's a big risk to take!! Be careful!
Though I'm a big fan of body tattoos (as you can see, it comes with my job;-)..), I would NOT put my face's apperance at risk by getting any cosmetic tattoos, let's say eyebrows, done. I rather use regular makeup...yes, cosmetic tattoos may save you time in the morning, but applying makeup is so much more fun and risk-free!

Instead of getting tattoos for your brows, why not try Rogaine for Women? That should make them grow in a bit more.My nail lady has tattooed eyebrows, and they look nice! But her natural haircolor is black, so the tattoo doesn't look harsh. I think on a blonde it would look too dark.
I so agree with sharond NO WAY there are so many what ifs...you face is not something you just mess with how can you hide it if something goes wrong! the eyebrows maybe but everything else just seems so risky.
