Bath and Body Works or Body Shop- your favorite store and products?
Sun, 06/14/2009 - 12:32pm
Do we love both of these stores or do we have favorites? I love the products Body Shop offers- their oils and body butters are fantastic, but their sales are never comparable to BBW. I always end up buying from BBW even though I would love to have some of the BS lines like Satsuma and Strawberry.Do you have any products from these stores that you cannot live without and want to share them with me? I love citrus scents or gourmand scents, and not a big fan of florals or vanilla- but I would love to learn what products other girls love to use.

I know it's only a seasonal scent, but I can't live without BBW's Peppermint Twist! I stock up with enough during winter to have throughout the year. The bonus is that on hot, sticky days, the peppermint is sooooo refreshing!I also love the True Blue Spa, Like Butter, soap from BBW. I just can't get enough of the scent and the soap is so moisturizing.
It is not skincare or body care but, I love their home fragrances. I love it when my home smells GREAT!My favorite wallflower/scentport is actually Evergreen. It is only around during Christmas time. It is fresh and clean. I LOVE IT. :)
I missed out on the whole temptations line, and unfortunately i never got to use any Peppermint products, they sound delicious, though... I was lucky to score Temptations Iced Tea 3-in-1 but I havent tested it yet.
hao9703- I know what u mean about the Evergreen wallflower- got it last Xmas and it smelled so good. I wish i stocked up, but I will be trying Fresh Bamboo as a summer alternative.
I have a pretty bad obsession with Bath and Body Works.I'm addicted to pretty much every CO Bigelow product I try. I love their mentha lip shines, foot cream, and I forget the exact name but it's a lemon moisturizing body wash. I've also started to use some of their facial products, which have been working out really well.I'm also a big fan of the True Blue spa line. Their lotions and creams are the best.I also have an obscene collection of various body sprays from the original collection. I think I have every scent they make. I'm a big fan of the moisturizing body washes as well.
mmmmmmm yummy i got a great gift basket for my graduation filled with japanese cherry blossom, and from my parents i got a vaca to hawaii for being on high honor roll all 4 years of high school. i used the spray and lotion while in the islands and now i need to use it to get a little relaxasion and a little escape!!! it is my fav!!!!
j.baby
congrats, jaccijo12, that is a nice gift. i only tried regular cherry blossom in body wash and it was too sweet for me.
brittanyk- love that Lemon by Bigelow, so delicious I wanna eat it :)
I've never heard of Bath and Body works.. I think we only have the Body Shop here. I absolutely adore passionfruit body butter and satsuma shower gel. <3
I am sorry, makeupper - I guess it is a US only store, BBW always has wonderful sales (much better than Body Shop) but I do believe Body Shop's products are more natural and the scents are nicer. Love Satsuma in fragrance oil! And also, the strawberry gel with little kiwi seeds in it- looks so cute!
I love both of these stores :) From Bath & Body Works, I love their White Tea & Ginger Body Cream (in the tube). Smells fantastic, is moisturizing, and that tube lasts forever. The hand sanitizer lotions are also great! Very moisturizing but get your hands clean. Also love the C.O. Bigelow line at B&BW, especially the Lemon EDT, the Lemon Lime Body Souffle, the Rose Balm and the tinted lip balms. At The Body Shop, I love their eyeshadows and their body butters (esp Satsuma and Coconut). Their lipglosses and lip butters are too scented for me (I like some scent, but these are overly fragranced for lip products, in my opinion).

I prefer The Body Shop because they do not test on animals. At BBW, they do not test the finished product on animals, but the ingredients are tested. I also like that The Body Shop does not have mineral oil in their products. However, I must say the BBW is tempting with all the sales and some of the fragrances are great.
faith24 - Hehe, I swear I'm going to have to come over to the US one day and stock up on everything not available in NZ! :P The Body Shop just sucks me in everytime I go past one, I can't resist sniffing and trying everything. The shop assistants must get so annoyed with me >_> bluedevilkitty - I totally agree with you about the lip butters, my passionfruit one smells exactly like the body butter. And to be honest I don't find the lip butters to be that moisturising either. But then nothing compares to my lucas papaw ointment. <3
makeupper--omg, i know! lip butter should be the MOST moisturizing thing out there, right?! apparently it's just scented stuff to put on your lips. The Body Shop should repackage/relabel it as solid perfume. >:( There are plenty of lip glosses out there that are more moisturizing than TBS lip butter (Clinique Superbalm, mark Juice Gems, Urban Decay XXX, Sephora lipgloss....)

bluedevilkitty - It really should be repackaged as solid perfume!! That line cracked me up :P It's so misleading calling it lip butter, it implies that it's really moisturising! And there really are plenty of lip glosses/balms better than this, how did The Body Shop get it so wrong?! :P
bluedevilkitty- i completely forgot about White Tea and Ginger, I used to have that line of products a couple of years ago.... Did they not discontinue it, though? A great scent for summer, so refreshing...
fatcat- i agree, the BBW label is misleading and many people think they do not test their products on animals at all.
to makeupper, you should totally come to US to shop, I have lived here for 10 years, and one of the best things about US is Sales! they have products marked off 75% or even 90% during sales. and not just BBW, many other stores have the same policy... But I never see Body Shop marking anything more than 50% off :(
I used to work for BBW, it's a great company, with great products. For home fragrancing, you can't beat the quality of their candles, oils and wallflowers. And the true blue spa line has a great airbrush self-tan spray, I use it in between spray tan applications at the spa, the color compares very favorably, and it dries in 5 minutes.
Hi faith24--they still have it online, and I bought some White Tea & Ginger body cream not too long ago (a couple of months ago?) in store. I hope they don't discontinue it, because it's my absolute favorite.makeupper--glad I made you crack up, but I'm still mad at TBS for having such a lame lip butter. :-P

I used to love them both but I have mended my ways. Sure somethings smell nice and then some just downright stink! That gardenia nonsense from BBW reeks! Maybe it's just the people I smell it on but yuck. TBS's stuff is much better than BBW, there's no mineral oil/ petroleum in anything I can find! BBW is, as I see it, ripping you off for scented Vaseline. YUM! I have found another lotion, natures gate colliodial oatmeal or Shikai pomergranite to be much better quality. I also don't break out in eczema since I've started using the natures gate. Btw, the foot creme or whatever is in that little tub is magical. (from TBS) It works better than anything I've ever tried!
BBW has come to Canada but not to my little town, so I have to envy all the sales that people who live near a BBW could get. I hauled a bit last time I was in BBW Toronto. The Body Shop sales indeed can't match BBW's, but I found their online sale is better than in store. Just put in an oder for the 50% sale on TBS website.

I was walking by BBW at the mall the other day and noticed that they have brought back some of their old discontinued scents. Smelling Juniper Breeze and Plumeria really brought back some old memories! I really like BBW aromatherapy line (moisturizers, candles, massage oils and body washes). They have nice, subtle scents.
I love Bath & Body Works fragrances, Sensual Amber, Moonlight Path, & the new Butterfly Flower are some of my favorites.

My aunt used to give me tons of BBW stuff back in the day. My fave scents are juniper breeze, coconut lime & verbena, and the ever popular cucumber melon. From The Body Shop I love their lip butters (I have the Yes Yes Yes one) and the body butters that smell like heaven!
faith24 - Oh I definitely will come over there as soon as I save enough money! Those sales sound amazing. Sales here are a bit of a joke to be honest. Lucky to get 20% off anything! bluedevilkitty - me too!Is the makeup from The Body Shop any good??
I used to work for TBS, so I have a bunch of their makeup from when they relaunched their line in 02/03. I don't know about today, but the makeup I have is great. The only product I didn't like was the lip glosses because they were too sticky for me, but some people like sticky glosses. I loved the eyeshadow, they work well both wet and dry. They also had a pretty good range of foundations. However, since L'oreal bought the company I no longer shop at TBS so I don't know if they've changed their formulas.
Thanks for the suggestion, Bluegirl. Does the Peppermint Twist come in scrubs, etc. ie. a whole line? I am going to have to give BBW a go. I am not sure why I don't. No good reason except back to the old "so many products/lines, so little time and money!"
thanks, bluedevilkitty, good to know it is still out there. Our BBW had real crappy selection this sale.
erica- i love TBS but never tried their tanning stuff, will check it out later
cruelmistress79- they have pomegranate stuff at TBS? i am a huge fan of that fruit :) i just wish they had better sales over at that store
oh, Halifax, I hope BBW will make its way to you soon... but for now think of all the money you possibly saved by not buying from there :) i know its tempting
gem- and they also have that Raspberry scent that has been around since 90s too. indeed, great finds, i wish they was same selection in all stores though
makeupper- yes, in Europe you are lucky if you get 25% on anything... i guess you can try buying some BBW items on Ebay but i am sure with shipping it will cost just like regular price
fatcat- i have the entire line with makeup from TBS - Moroccan Rose, and yes, the makeup quality is great. but the makeup has faint rose smell, so if u dont want your cheeks or lips to smell like roses, it can turn you off.
I love Japanese Cherry Blossom body splash and lotion from Bath and Body Works.
Bath and body works has some of the best body products. Especially C.O. Bigelow's body washes. There and smells great.

Bless your heart, Makeupper! (We say that a lot here in the South.) You need to go online to www.bathandbodyworks.com and look around. If you can find any of the Breathe line, go for them. My favorite is the Breathe Romance fragrance, but Breathe Delight is a good one, too. They discontinued this line against popular opinion and only bring it back from time to time, but I found some last week for 75% off. I'm not kidding you, when I wear the Breathe Romance vitamin body lotion, children at my elementary school ALWAYS comment on how good I smell--even the boys. You can also snatch some up on eBay sometimes.....if I don't beat you to it.
Moema....always a Mom first
Bath and Body Works' True Blue Spa Shea Butter Body Wash is AMAZING. It smells like cupcakes!! I can't live without it. I bought a bottle of it during their semi-annual sale and was so upset when I was out of it, my boyfriend went out and bought me two more bottles of it.
Living in Sweden, I only have TBS out of the two. I must say, I'm not that a big fan of their bath and body line. Too much strange stuff in it, nowadays. Though their tools are wonderful from bath sponges to make-up brushes.I bought a Satsuma Body Butter a while back. Problem is, it is so very scented that I can be smellt a mile away! Lovely scent, however, just too strong for a body butter. It is like drenching yourself in perfume. The same holds true for the Mango, which is also a lovely scent. As for products I can't live without...nah. Can't think of any in the bath and body department. However, in the make-up apartment TBS offer a few of my absolute must haves:- Colourglide Lipstick in Ginger Pink (on me, it is a few shades darker than my natural lips and oh, so nice looking!).- Shimmer Cubes in the warm palette (perfect for every occasion, and really looks great with my blue eyes. Intensity is buildable, from a sheer champagne wash to intense chocolatey bronze).- Lip and Concealer brush (perfect for eye detailing, and for my small lids).- Hi-Shine Lipgloss (just a light touch brings the prettiest glitter to my lips, too much and it just slides off).
I used to LOVE The Body Shop, but somewhere in the last few years their prices went through the roof! Now I just go to check out what's on their clearance rack.
I'm not real familiar with The Body Shop's products so my vote will have to be Bath and Body Works, whom I love. I have almost all their perfumes and wear a different one everyday til time to repeat. =P
I love the moonlight path body spray!
I'm a sucker for bath and body works, they have so many different scents, so many different products and the deals are always amazing! And my favourite scent from them is moonlight path...its musky, romantic, and subtle..perfection!
