Anyone ever hit pan on an eyeshadow?
Tue, 07/28/2009 - 4:22pm
I own 200+ eyeshadows and I don't think I'll ever hit pan on any of them. I love to do different looks everyday and don't usually do the same look two days in a row. I was wondering if any of you have hit pan on an eyeshadow and how long did it take?

I haven't for a long time. I did when I only owned like 3. I don't think I'll ever hit pan again. I'm like you. I have WAY too many now. Although there is a neutral one that I tend to use much more then any others that I might need a backup of just in case.
Not yet! I just started with makeup, so maybe I will soon because of my limited supply.
lol mileena you make me feel better that I'm not the only one with a ridiculous amount of eyeshadows. My sisters always say "you only have two eyelids" dianad- it is probably easier to hit pan on eyeshadow if you rotate between a few. hmm maybe i should try that :)
I have only ever done it once on a mocha mac eye shadow that I used as a base for most of my looks, but now I try so many colors and brands out that I dont think it will happen again!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
Never! Then again I have so many different ones, I can't foresee that happening, even in the distant future... especially when you consider that it's inevitable that NEW e/s will be introduced into the collection.. I like options, though. ;P
Not yet but maybe someday. I love eyeshadows. I am always wanting more!
I did! On several eyeshadows in 6 eyeshadow Clinique palette that was part of a gift with purchase. That was wayyyy back in the day, when those were pretty much the only eyeshadows that I had.I don't know if that phenomenon will ever happen again, because I have so many now. :P

I've hit the pan on two of mine. A london ffi from last spring from mark. and my Urban Decay The Midnight Cowboy Runs Again. And 200 eyeshadows? Wow. That's quite the collection!!!!
Your collection sounds SWEET!
I've NEVER finished one before...even though I stock up on backups and backups of it thinking that I will :)
I did when I was 13 or 14. It was a silvery white from Maybelline. The only reason I hit bottom was because at that age I put it on with a spakle and I thought the color was the best thing ever. (It was a popular color with all the middle school girls back then) Now I tend to throw shadows out before I'm anywhere near hitting pan.
I have a few times back when I didn't have much makeup, nowadays I don't think it'll happen again for a long time! It was on neutral colors like Stila Kitten and UD Sin.
same here, i only hit pan when i was younger and didn't own that many shadows. now i have so many...they are my weakness! I might hit pan on my cat cosmetics hello gorgeous palette eventually cause I use it every day!
I think only once, it was MAC, I can't remember the name of the shade, but I used it as a base for all my eye looks at one time.
I've hit pan once with my MAC eyeshadow in Trax. it's such a beautiful color to wear everyday. This was a long time ago when I didn't own much makeup but now, I have a lot of eyeshadows and I don't think I could ever hit pan again.

No never. I've only just started wearing eye shadow when I discovered Everyday Minerals. A little bit of mineral eyeshadow goes a l-o-n-g way so I'll probably never run out.
I use a lot of eyeshadow and have never hit pan. It always breaks or something.
When I was still in high school my mom bought me the color workshop make up kit for christmas one year. It had this color that I loved so I used it everyday. It took me a year to finish it completely, even then I was rubbing my brush on the sides of the pan because I couldn't find it anywhere. There were similar shades but nothing that look close enough on like this color. Now I have the 120 palette and I don't think I will ever use half of them.
i hit the pan on mac's mulch. for a long time i wasnt into makeup too heavy and that was one of the only shadows i had. plus it got broken and i didnt know about repressing. i also hit the pan on mac's era. i love that little neutral shade. i had it just as long as mulch so i guess it took about 3 years...again, i didnt wear makeup nearly as much as i do now.

Wow, it's amazing how most of us hit pan on MAC's eyeshadow more than others. I just hit pan on my MAC shadow that I use everyday for my crease. I really do think they make the best shadows.
I don't think I will either -- I own wayyy to many eyeshadows or will stock up on it if I notice I am running low. I can't stock up if I know its low. Drive me crazy.
Nope... lol and i'm constantly getting more.. I haven't even used up a 1/4 tsp of sample pigment in those 1000 jars i have ( not literally.. i probably have like 50 )
I have not only hit the pan but had to replace 3 eye shadows repeatedly since I got really into make up in high school. All three were MAC Frost: Phloof!, Pink Freeze, Swish. Phloof! I go through the most because I use it as a Base color over my UDPP almost always.
Love and Lipgloss,

Yup!! Back when I didn't really know how to apply mu properly, I only used one eyeshadow, and I'd completely use it up before buying another. I remember using up a taupey Maybelline shade, then decided to switch things up by buying a single pan of Covergirl's Tapestry Taupe. Now, I have so much makeup that I rotate around that I don't think I'll ever use anything up again. sometimes i still feel a tad wistful when i think about those simpler days... when getting ready in the mornings took less than 5 mins..
I've had a Wet n Wild trio since 7th grade (neutral colors, unfortunately the color name has long since rubbed off) and I hit pan on the highlight color. However, that's also because it was my only eyeshadow until around Sophomore or Junior year, so it got al ot of wear :) My NYX shadows are starting to show small dips, but that's it for me! 200+eyeshadows though, that's ridiculous :) I have no idea how you pick what to put on everyday haha!
xoxo
I actually used an entire sample of rare silk by EDM! I've hit pan/used up a few Mary Kay eyeshadows and blushes. I've got several highlight shades (two MK and a covergirl) that I'm trying to use up because I've hit pan and I want to get rid of them to make room for other things. It's going to take me a while though. Overall, I tend to hit pan more often with highlight shades because I usually (at least in the past) have found one and stuck with it. Same with blushes. I used to generally have one that I used daily. Now, on the other hand, I am getting a fairly decent collection of MMU, so it is going to take me a LONG time to get through anything. LOL
Wow it seems a lot of you have hit pan on Mac eyeshadows.. does this mean I should go out and buy some :) haha jk. I am trying hard not to buy anymore eyeshadows until I hit pan on a few bc yes 200 is a little excessive haha. I have a huge dip in one but thats because thats the one I used back when I only had like three shades.I need to go on a no eyeshadow buy. Its just that they're so pretty they lure me in! Foundation, concealer, those things aren't fun. They're just there to give the appearance of nice skin. Eyeshadows are fun and artsy! I love making different color combos and seeing what looks I could create. So you heard it........my no eyeshadow buy starts here!
I don't recall ever hitting pan on any eyeshadows. I own probably 25 or so, but I don't know how to put together "looks" and I have no clue about such things as smokey eye. (Embarrased!) I love makeup but I generally stick to a highlight and a neutral lid color. Sad, huh? I need to get educated and buy a big palette...
I think the only time I ever hit pan was in early high school, when I only had a few eyeshadows to choose from. I have a lot of paletes from Lancome, my mother only buys here face wash there if there is a gift with purchase and since she doesn't wear a lot of makeup I always get them!I think I may use up my Everyday Minerals eyeshadows, but not for a long time! Since getting them I have neglected all other shadows, so those ones are going to last even longer.
I did long ago when I first bought makeup. I remember I had a little quad from Maybelline with a white, tan, brown, and pink. I hit the pan on the white and pink. This was also like 10 years ago, haha. Now, I don't see that happening any time soon. I use a different shadow pretty much every day. Plus, I use my costal scents 88 palette a lot, and I'm sure I'm never going to run out of those.
I did once, years ago on a white maybelline shadow. It was back when i had one of every item and i only ever bought something new when that ran out. I can imagine i'm prob gonna hit pan on sin or all that glitters as i love those two shades as all over colours.
I once hit pan again when I was like 16,it happened on a night out.My makeup had worn off and I went to reapply only to see the light lilac I always used was all gone so in a panic I tried the next colour in the palette which I never used before(bad idea)it looked purple but went on pinky red,I ended up looking the spitting image of one of those white rabbits with the pink eyes.I also never fully use any lipgloss-that's my real weakness I've just got to try every new one.

LOL potionprincess.. I have a Himalayan dwarf rabbit with red eyes, and I think they're quite cute. ;)And I have the same weakness for l/g!
wow i never have....i don't think I use the same eyeshadow long enough for that to happen.
i have hit pan but only on my neutrals (mostly thet were cheap shadows that ended up breaking/crumbling etc, i have had an eyeshadow quad from the body shop for about 5 years and i use it nearly everyday and still i havent ran out of any, but the lightest shade os runnning low (the others are still pretty full-i use them most days but just as crease shadows not full lid) i dont think you can buy the lightest shade on its own so when its gone i will be so upset :(have any of you checked out limecrime website yet!ifnot do it its a must for eyeshadow junkies!also if anyone orders could you please add a not that i referred you as i am trying to convince xenia to sell a kit of sample eyeshadows and i hope that if she sees people ordering that i have reffered she may be more likely to take my kit idea seriously! also for 10%| discount use the code gala10 xxx
hrhtracy-definately a cute look for a rabbit-not so good on a human-I felt like I should be checking my watch and saying-"I'm late,I'm late for a very important date(cant wait to see tim burton's version of alice in wonderland-johnny Depp-yum yum.)
PotionPrincess♥
Oh my gosh, I absolutely agree! I've been waiting and waiting, both patiently and not so, for his version of Alice to come out for AGES! My best friends' brother is a chef in London (so he meets famous people left and right, never blinks an eye), one night he was at some club in the VIP area and Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were sitting a few feet away from him! He's a huge Burton fan and showed him his Nightmare Before Christmas tattoo and they invited him to sit and talk with them. They told him all about Alice in Wonderland and all sorts of other things, before it was even public knowledge. When my best friend told me we both had a fangirl moment of squeeing and wishing we were in London. *sighs*
Oh my god-that's officially the best story ever -the lucky man-Id prob be staring a johnny like a fool.Tim Burton is going to do the best version of alice in wonderland ever-cant wait.

Haha - I've "hit pan" on some of my Stila shadows. I am currently enroute to hit pan on my Urban Decay shadow (Toasted). However, it takes 3-4 months of continued use to get there.
I hit pan on my first "real" eyeshadow (drugstore stuff didn't count and I always trashed it because it was such horrible quality) when I was about sixteen. It was a Clinique duo in Lilac Truffle. I hit pan on the lilac part. I replaced it because it was (and I still have a soft spot for it) my favorite shadow.
I hit pan on my very first Cat Cosmetics. It took me 35 years (wow that long) to hit my first pan. I laugh every time I hear someone say they have absolutely no eye shadow left.

Does small product samples count? Otherwise, no. Though I can imagine doing it to the light champagne shade in my Warm Shimmer Cube quad from Bodyshop. I use it almost every, single day combined with Floating Feathers from EDM in the tearduct and a liner. It is an absolute no-brainer kind of combination, since it always looks good and can go for any occasion.I'm actually forcing myself not to buy more shadows, since I know I will wear them once or twice and then go back to my quad.
I have! I hit pan on 2 Bobbi Brown eyeshadows in the color Bone. Amazing all over lid color. I also hit pan on a Mac blush. Actually don't remember the name, it was some years ago. I've also finished 2 Clarins bronzers. I used to love the bronzer a few years ago.
Yep! A gold Wet n' Wild. It was a beautiful color too *sighs dreamily*
I hit pan on the mink brown in the NYX aloha/mink brown/deep bronze trio. I have plenty of the other two colors left though. This is my perfect everyday work color. I use the whole trio if I wake up on time, and the mink brown alone when I am running late...which is most days. I have too many eyeshadows to count, but tend to fallback on this trio because it is foolproof.
I've hit pan on only two, Nars Faith and MAC Blanc Type. Thank you for divulging the fact that you have an eyeshadow collection in excess of 200....it made me feel a litttle better about my own rapidly mutating stash. Lol! Recently, I've noticed a disturbing trend in my eyeshadow buying habits. In an effort to keep my MU organized, I've been buying empty palettes to store the pans, and there is something so sad and lonely about the empty slots that it compels me to buy more eyeshadow to fill them. It's a horrible compulsion! Recently, I've filled 2 Stila 6 pan compacts and a MAC 15! I've also been eyeing the Bobbie Brown 10 pan, and the Makeup Forever 10 is calling my name, too. I think enrollment in a cosmetic 12 step program may be in order, here.
I've hit pan on many eyeshadows. I have way too many eyeshadows. I have at least 100, but probably more. I tend to hit pan on the colors I use a lot. Like a light champagne color, a dark brown color, etc.
Stila's "Kitten" and Urban Decay's "Midnight Cowboy" have both been hit and replaced more than a couple of times...:)
I have... in the past. lol Not recently though, I have too many.

I've also hit pan on a Stila eyeshadow a few years ago but I agree, I have too many now to ever hit pan. Plus I am using mineral shadows so I just pour it out instead. :)
