just got invited a mary kay party. anyone love their stuff? haven't thought of mary kay since my high school blue eyeliner days, but i thought i'd give it a try!
I don't use MK anymore because they won't publish their ingredients and I'm trying to go more natural and organic. But the old pink topped standby has two things I can't live without. #1 is their creamy cleanser 2. I don't use it for a face wash (too heavy) but it makes the BEST eye makeup remover. It immediately removes even waterproof mascara, doesn't leave a residue behind and does NOT sting my eyes like most all do for me. The second is MK Soothing Eye gel. This is the only thing I have found that 100% zaps my morning under eye puffiness. 5 minutes after application I look fresh faced and ready to go! Have fun but DO NOT get suckered into buying more than what you really want. I hate that about "parties". Hope this helps!
I found that it felt too plastic like and really would not cooperate with my skin. although the reps do have a full inventory to show ans share...i tend to stay away form the parties. I cant risk breaking out and I do not like to feel like i am putting up a front by showing up and not intending to buy, or better yet...actually comparing Maky-Kay with my brand "Mark." (the brand that i sell) I didnt invent it lol.
The Oil-Free hydrating gel is pretty awesome. Even my friend who used to work in their corporate office after working with me at Sephora, also a total product snob, swore by the stuff!
I hope your experience at a party is better than mine. Many years ago, back when Agrimony was 18 and still living at home, the summer between high school and college, one Saturday morning she was awakened by the phone. It was a girl who lived nearby, not a really close friend. Kind of a C level - you know when your best friend is busy, and the second tier is too, you hang with C's. She, and, I will call her Carol, just because that came to me first for some reason, wanted to know what I was doing. Nothing. Nothing planned that day until I had to work about four. The time was around 9.Carol then asked if I wanted to come over for coffee. "Coffee? " Wow, I thought, that is something old ladies (like my mom) did. "Yeah,"she said, Coffee. She thought it might be fun and we could talk about makeup. Okay. She had me there. "When?" "Right now" I told her it would be a bit as I had to get ready. She said don't dress up or something like that.I jumped in the shower. And got ready. Of course you all know what I mean. Hair, makeup, outfit. I got done and went to her house about an hour later. Carol's sister, Mary, answered the door and I followed her to the kitchen. There sat, Carol, Mary, two girls I didn't know who were friends of Mary and a woman in a suit looking annoyed. They were drinking coffee and eating donuts. I happily took a cup and sat down, but, felt a very weird vibe. I was afraid it was some kind of bible study or something. I noticed no one had any makeup on. They had their hair in ponytails or back withe headbands. I soon learned I was at a Mary Kay party. I am not sure I had even heard of Mary Kay. I was given a headband and a pony tail elastic. I then was told I had to TAKE OFF ALL MY MAKEUP and when I protested, the Mary Kay Lady informed me I had to. Since she looked like a strict teacher, I complied. She gave me and the other girls a pink tray and then dolloped out product telling us what to use. I complied, although I wanted to leave. She went through the drill as we followed her directions. Then we got to do our makeup using her stuff. I was impressed with cleanser that did melt everything off quickly. The base, not so much, way too dark. I was told to BLEND. So I did. Then after the makeup she laid out the sales pitch. Fine, I would like the cleanser. No, I couldn't buy the cleanser, I had to buy the entire skin care set, which as I recall was around 75.00. Or I could buy the makeup set, about the same, or both, and get a small discount.I didn't want any of it. And finally got the nerve to say good by. I went home, and my mom freaked when I walked in, wanting to know what on earth happened. The base was fricking medium tan. I am a pale redhead. I washed it all off. The next morning I woke up with several large painful zits. I didn't get many, and none like this.Carol called me Monday wanting to know if I had decided to buy. Nope, I told her, and don't ever invite me to something like that with out telling me what it was. She said if she had, I wouldn't have come. I told her she was probably correct.A few years later I worked with someone who sold MK. She didn't make you buy the sets, I think they still pushed it that way. I bought and used the melting cleanser for some time. I liked it, and used other cleanser afterward, but, boy did it take off the makeup! (Signature Club A on HSN has similiar melting creams that are great.)And some years back, when I met my husband, his exwife had sold Mary Kay (which he is convinced broke up their marriage but that might be tale for another time).and she via my stepsons gave me a huge amount of makeup she had left over. She did pick out fairly appropriate shades and I did wear it, the boys liked it, and it wasn't bad.A few years later, on some beauty email list, I won the monthly drawing for a basket of MK skin care and makeup. The skincare was Time Wise, which had just come out, which I used and liked. Then I married someone who sold MK, and she paid me my fee in MK - a couple regime of Time Wise, which I was happy to have. And there is the time I was a little tipsy at a silent auction and bid for and won a set of their bath and body stuff, which I liked. But, all in all, MK isn't bad. I am not sure about some of the sales techniques. There are blogs about MK that are funny and sad about people involved with it. But the products are okay. I only stopped cause I found I could buy Signature Club A online and I have always been a fan of Adrianne Arpel. And then I went on to other things.
Oh my god, I haven't thought about Mary Kay in forever.
I'll never forget being in junior high and thinking that Velocity perfume was the best thing I'd ever smelled in my life.
In those days I used a ton of their makeup and though I was hot stuff but looking back, none of it was impressive.
They had a fairly good cream cleanser that took everything off.
The best Mary Kay product I ever used was a scrub they had but it was probably discontinued. It was the best scrub I have ever used. I think it came in a white tube with a flip cap. I miss it. And I'll always wonder what it was called. Anybody out there know what I'm talking about?
I use Mary Kay eyeshadow primer, and it works really well for me. I've used some of their skin care stuff, and I didn't mind it, but I also didn't love it. I'm trying to finish off a MK moisturizer right now. I will be glad to have that bottle gone. lol I also have a bunch of MK eye shadows and a couple blushes, but they are pre-MMU, so the formulations would be different and a lot of the colors that I have are gone too.
A friend of mine got talked into selling it for someone else, and so I bought some stuff, but the only thing I used more than once, and would buy again, was the clarifying masque. It's green, and has exfoliating grains in it, it does a really decent job soaking up excess oil. Of course, a lot of masques do that for less, but whenever I am in a situation that I feel like buying something from MK to help out a friend, or bc I got talked into one of those parties, this is one of the things I buy. I usually buy 2, knowing I will eventually use it. None of the other stuff has ever worked for me, and I do believe it has a lot of pore-clogging fillers in it.
The only thing I've tried from Mary Kay is their mattifying gel for oily skin, and all I can say is, eh, it's decent. Not a miracle, but it helps keep some oilies at bay.Mary Kay parties and those types of situations are always kind of uncomfortable. They can be fun, but I almost always feel pressured to buy something, and guilty if I don't.
You know, time and time again, I see people with really flawless skin, and often they attribute it to Mary Kay. Which I can't understand because it's so loaded with stuff that isn't good for your skin. But then I thought about it some more (I think about makeup way too much) and I wonder if that's the secret, that it's so heavy and impenetrable that it's literally like a perfect mask on your face. No pores, scars or broken capillaries can break through.
For the most part, I can't handle the pushiness of Mary Kay ladies. However, I worked for a woman over the summer that had absolutely flawless skin, and I know she only used Mary Kay products, so I would probably consider buying them if I knew someone that sold them. The hand scrub is really good though, I can't think of the name of it but it is in an orange bottle and smells kinda bad but works extremely well.
Can't stand it myself. Too much petroleum. UGH!

I love the eye makeup remover. It's liquid, not a cream, and is refreshing!
I love the foundation!
