Any brave Cooks wanna try?
So Ive got this recipe for fat free chocolate cookies. Im kinda skeptic. Money is tight and I dont have.. cooking stuff in my house Lol.So If im going to buy the ingrediants I would like to know I can make this recipe multiple times.LolAnyone want to try making them and let me know?
1 1/2 c. flour1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa1/2 tsp. baking soda1/2 tsp. salt1/2 c. Karo (light or dark)3 egg whites
Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Stir in corn syrup and egg white until blended (dough will be thick and slightly sticky). Drop by rounded teaspoon onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes or just until set (cookies will be soft when pressed). Do not overbake. Cool on rack. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

I think you missed something in your ingredients. You have corn syrup in the directions but not the ingredients. There still is a lot of sugar in these though. Especially with the corn syrup.
I think Karo is a brand of corn syrup Mileena?
Oh really? Thanks ref. We just have generic corn syrup here I think. I've never heard of Karo. I actually thought that might be carob chips, which would make sense in low fat chocolate cookies.
The easiest thing of all to do is get your normal cookie recipe that you know works and replace sugar with splenda, any milk with skim and replace any butter with a very low fat spread(I use flora or pure organic dairy free spread),then you know you can trust the recipe to work.My dad's diabetic and I always do this with cookies, muffins apple pie etc.He doesn't really eat sweet thing's much but sometimes he gets,a craving and they usually turn out ok and taste the same.

You can also use virgin coconut oil as a substitute for oil or butter in baking! So healthy and yummy!
Yea im kinda shooting for Fat free. Is virgin Cocnut oil non fat? I think thats the purpose the corn syrup gives. Even the low fat spreads have quite a bit. I cant risk it with the diet Im on. Not unless it has packaged label with ingrediants. HehBut if I can substitute that with the butte mabey I can use my normal recipes. How do cookies come out with splenda? Do you use the baking blend? Ive used regular splenda before in my baking... and its come out... really wierd!

Coconut oil is not fat free. It does have saturated fat but it's still much better for you then butter or margarine. You could try substituting apple sauce for the butter. I've heard this works well but I personally haven't ever tried it.There is no such thing as a diet friendly cookie however. You'd be better off snacking on fruits if you need a sugar fix. And corn syrup is really bad for you. I would NEVER cook with corn syrup. This kinda reminds me of the Seinfield where they start eating frozen yogurt because it has no fat and then they all get fat because it's sugar *which the body uses as glucose and turns the glucose into fat*
Well Im on the alli diet... So I eat pretty healthy... I just need a little something to satisfy me. Even if it has alot of calories I dont mind because I eat very healthy all the time and can afford a few treats. Unfortunately on alli it does not differenciate healthy... it just seeks out fat. And it doesnt differenciate bewteen good and bad fat.I have to add my daily Omega 3 Capsuls into my fat grams each day as part of a meal! Because the Omega 3 has fat! Lol But I love it.Snackwells makes a fat free chocolate cookie but it gets expensive to be buying them all the time. Apple Sauce? Wow... Never heard of it!

If you making something that calls for brown sugar-then you can use the baking blend but for cookies ,muffins etc-I always use splenda-it usually turn's out the exact same honestly,oh and about the low fat spread's I check the fat grams and use the lowest one possible-when you think of all the sugar and butter in real cookies it makes a huge difference and you can just follow you normal recipies.I've recently heard of agave nectar(health shop)-which is actually supposed to lower you blood sugar(it's a similar texture to honey).I actually have a recipe in 1 book that includes apple sauce-if you want I can e-mail it to you .

I've heard amazing things about stevia from a friend. She grows her own and plucks the leaves and dries and grinds(?) it and uses it to sweeten everything. Stevia is a plant that is actually sweeter than sugar but it does not raise your blood sugar. It's reportedly better for you than processed sugar. They're actually making a sugar substitute from the stevia plant called Truvia. I don't know what it tastes like, but if you want to experiment, do a little research on stevia and Truvia.
i got a free sample at my grocery store of truvia. I havnt tried it yet. I'll have to wait til I make up some tea!

Beat with an electric mixer until creamy. Add the egg whites and apple sauce and beat well. Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring well to combine. Fold in the chocolate chips. Drop the batter by rounded teaspoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until lightly browned. Let cool completely on cookie rack. Makes 2 dozen. 1 gram fat.
I have melted dark chocolate and stirred in with good luck. I didn't like fat free chips, so I used regular semi-sweet which was much better. I haven't tried carob chips.
