Katehrm777 here with more advice to help you tame your locks and manage your main! It always seems like we want most what we can’t have. I have probably permanently ruined my skin from countless hours of tanning while my best friend slathers on SPF 75 when venturing out because she doesn’t want to get “too dark”. I wear six inch heels and can barely walk while my 5’10” friend whose legs I would die for laments that she must always wear flats. Many friends have spent countless hours teasing, curling, spraying, and complaining that they just want a little more volume when the one thing I have ALWAYS longed for above all else stick straight, shiny, NORMAL hair . So when I saw I had received Clairol’s ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss Treatment for dramatically glossier, shinier hair I thought yes! Maybe I can be Demi Moore after all (AFTER intensive blow drying and straightening of course). Clairol’s ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss claims to take over-processed colored hair and make your hair “healthy looking, long lasting and shiny.” I used about half the container on my head when trying to cover all my hair (but, as mentioned above and 7 million other times, I have very thick hair) and worked it through, letting it sit. I washed it out and blow dried and straightened it like always. The verdict? This is a very nice intensive moisturizing treatment that left my hair soft. However it was no softer or more manageable than any of my other intensive conditioners of choice and it did very little if anything for shine.
Meg hair! I'm am so flipping lucky. I am the luckiest women alive EVER! I have Lisa Oliver and Marco Pelusi color my hair. They have both been in the business forever and are known experts teaching and quoted everywhere.
Between the two of them they're ready for AFI's best list because the names that go to them are box office gold. More Academy Award winners go to them them Mr. Chow's. They know color. They have the clients that fly all over kingdom come (Saudi Arabia, Japan, Riverside)
You have the color-issue, I am here as holy as holy is, If Marco Pelusi or Lisa Oliver are in charge of your hair then you are VERY FAMOUS, Very Rich, very connected or, as I am, very lucky.
Here's the thing, just because you're a genius at color doesn't mean you're a genius at the cut.
All of the highest paid, most established, and most famous women know that their are amazing artists in color. They are also amazing in cuts but let's be honest, you can't be an absolute genius in everything. I've just delivered to you the two best colorists in Los Angeles, meet L.A.'S best cutter!
The word on the very high-end and exclusive street is the best hair-cut in L.A. is Jeannine Brousseau. I am blessed to know the inside because Jeannine is hidden away in West Hollywood guarded by Los Angeles's A-List.
Brousseau's highly evolved technique, focus and style sensibility to her Freshen Studio.
Never one to follow trends, she has developed her own inventive style of free-form cutting. She tailors her cuts to each person’s hair texture, coloring, and face shape, constantly seeking the perfect balance between structure and movement. Brousseau's calm and maternal demeanor instantly puts clients at ease. She collaborates with her clients; listening to their needs while providing her own insight to create beautiful, effortless hair that simply falls into shape.
Meg here! When you hear the name "Lisa Oliver" you know you're talking to someone that knows who the major celebrity hair players are in Los Angeles. Like the Jimmy Choo heel and the Birken bag, getting your hair colored at The Sally Hershberger salon is quite the status symbol. Lisa Oliver has been in ridiculously high demand there! Someone better hope Sally isn't the insecure type. I leapt at the chance to have Lisa give me a new color (Hello fiery redhead Meg). Of course when she was finished, my hair looked amazing. Sitting next to me I chatted with another client of Lisa's. She is from BOSTON! I know, I think even I looked at her like she was crazy. She flies from Boston to LA every 6 weeks so that Lisa can do her hair. I probably wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't had the conversation with her. I mean, I'm from Boston. That's a bitch of a cross country trip.
It is not a rare tale, well-heeled women from all over the US fly to see Lisa Oliver regularly. She is one of the most respected hair gurus in town and her client list reads like the Academy Award announcements. We are talking very A-list.
For those of us that are not able to get to Los Angeles-and jumping on a flight every 6 weeks isn't feasable, I wanted to get into the brain of Lisa Oliver and see if she'd tell us some hints and a little about herself. Meg: Does God know best? Should you really stay within one to two shades of you own when picking a color?
Lisa: You know part of me really wants to give you a straight answer, like a yes or a no...And part of me wants to say "Yes” to the question. But the longer I am in this industry...going on 25 years of my life...the more I want to say, that there really is no more rules to this game at all. There's time when that rule might apply or can apply, and then you have a client or meet with someone new and you're looking at their skin tone, their eyes, their features and then "right in that moment" you realize that with this person some sort of "space" opens ups and you have that "epiphany" and realize that all rules that used to apply, don't apply here. That is where every hairdresser has the chance to come alive and see what he/she is made off. Our chance to perform and put our let our work speak for itself...and when done right, almost any person can "pull off" just about any type of haircut or any type of hair color, key word..."done right." For the most part, I like to keep someone’s color at the roots maybe 2-3 shades lighter and then “push” the highlights a few more levels than at the roots, when you do that you have a lot more room to create different looks and you have a lot more options to work with.
Meg hair! Ha! Hump day's got me a little bit batty today. Let's just cut to it, the FHI T-Rex Clips are not for me! Well, so I thought. My previous experience has been "professional hair clips" sliding down my head. Thank-you very much baby fine hair!
On the other end of the specrtrum, I wondered how the heck did you ladies with actual hair get the clips to hold all of it while you worked? Divide it into sections while flat-ironing, curling, blow-dry-you name it! When Megken was at Marco Pelusi having his hair cleaned up I noticed Marco had these-in red. FHI makes all sorts of professional grade products and when your see that the top hair artists in town are using their products...Let's just say I was happy it was just one of the amazing items I was going to get to introduce to our ladies! Yup, a pair of these amazing clips were in our Megsmakeup goody bags.
They didn't fall out of my hair while I sectioned off to curl! They felt pretty snug and when it came time to take them out there was absolutely no pull!
Meg here! We have such a great give-away! Google Marco Pelusi! He's won award after award-his celebrity clients are box office gold and we are lucky enough to have him! I could be such a beyotch right now. I went to an ultra famous salon that is written up everywhere. They actually have the camera's on them non-stop. The $800 a hair-do stylist said to me, "Oh, use this"..When none of the footage was taping. "It's the BEST out there!" I was so excited, yet so shy to tell her, that not only did I have this Marco Pelusi Color Guard Conditioner but it is the best hair product I've also ever found! With this item he's minutes away from his own show! I was offered free haircare from a very nationally known salon. I was blown away (pun intended) at the offer but I get offered the VERY BEST for FREE! I am an extremely lucky girl. I'm also smart(ish) and I know the best. Marco Pelusi is an expert at chemistry, color and sex appeal. When I left his chair I went to walk to parking and I had men (not just truckdriver's- but my self-esteem needs them too, yell out how hot I was!) Megken said "I love you no matter what, but OMG you look so so hot!" How hot is that? Being told you're hot makes you want to act and feel sexy! We have 2 colorguards to give away and-if you can get to LA- ONE FREE CUT, COLOR AND STYLE FROM MR. MARCO PELUSI He will rock your world!
Kate here! Oftentimes when celebrities are being interviewed they are asked "what is the one beauty product you cannot live without". They usually answer some bs about "drinking water!" or "just a dab of black mascara!", totally neglecting the real reasons behind their beauty that they could not live without ie weekly facials, peels, laser treatments, fake eyelashes, professional make-up artists etc etc. I often wonder what the ONE thing someone like Posh could not live without is. Could she pick? Could anyone really pick? You may be asking yourself what this has to do with hair. Well let me answer you! This is relevant because I know, without a doubt or any question, what my one product that has astronomically changed my life for the better is. The one I could not live without. The one without I would be a different person.
Megl here! I'm filling in for Katie today and I'm happy to do so because today's hump is on a brand that I'm a huge fan of! I am also a die-hard Marco Pelusi follower. I've seen his genius first hand and he has gotten absolutely crazy positive reviews on megsmakeup before Marco's previous raves
I was over the moon when he let me know he has a gloss out. I can't get a brush through my hair without his anti-frizz leave in conditioner and I'm pretty new to the world of glosses. I have really fine hair that's dry and brittle on the ends but can get uber oily around the scalp. Gloss and shiners translated to "oily" and "limp" in my mind. I was all "OMG Marco! I can't wait to try it!" But inside I was nervous because I am a total newbie and wasn't even sure how you work a gloss. Marco, being not only a hair guru but teacher to so many stylists calmly explained it to me "After you blow dry, you need to make the hair look healthy and shiny, take a TINY amount (about the size of the tip of a q-tip for my fine tresses).Work it through your hair, it will detangle and control fly-aways and promote sheen
The Master had spoken. He said this to me while working on a woman in his chair at his signature salon. I felt even better when his client said " Oh, you'll love it! It's great! It makes my hair look so good. I always get compliments that my hair looks fab when I use it." It wasn't that I doubted Marco, it was that I doubted my hair. How can a girl doubt Marco? He really does think of everything. This is the Rolls Royce of glosses. It has color guard and sunscreen and vitamin e and silicone and its water soluble. He really is an expert on color so does everything he can to jam pack his products with all the goodies to keep your lock vibrant and protected. It's not a huge bottle but when used properly will last 6 months. It also is not sticky and made my hands feel great! It's just a quality product and I am now THE GLOSS QUEEN! After I give myself a blow out I grab for this gloss and I'm very happy with the results. If you suffer from any dull or dryness I would recommend you try his leave-in conditioner and finish off with this gloss. You'll be having many a great hair day!
Sweetassgal here! I have mentioned before that my hair went through a complete follicle metamorphosis about three years ago. Living for 32 years with stick straight hair I awoke one day to find my fine straight hair was slowly becoming coarse and curly. I was completely unaware of how to deal with this type of hair and set about to turn my frizzy mass of kinky tendrils into luscious Botticelli curls! After about three years of curl-intensive research and countless failures I've managed to learn a thing or two. First off, cocktails are good...I'm talking the kinds served with a little pink umbrella as well as the hair cocktails you create by mixing several products together. And they both have one thing in common, know when to say when! Don't overload your hair with too many products or you'll create a heavy mess that leaves you looking like you've been working the fry cook shift with Brandon "Greasy Bear" Davis. I shudder. Secondly, no one is going to get Meg Ryan in "The Women" curls from product alone so don't set yourself up for the failure...damn impossible "I look perfect even while gardening and finding out my husbands cheating with an even more impossible looking twenty something" Hollywood standards!
Kate here! Winter is usually a time for dryness. Now those of you who don't live in sunny Southern California like me (little dig there...sorry I couldn't resist) may be saying "what on earth is she talking about?" Winter for most places is a time of rain and snow and general wetness, and it even rains occasionally in Southern California! But when I say dryness, of course I am talking about the havoc that winter wreaks on our skin and hair, turning supple soft skin into a flaky, scaly mess and silky, shiny hair into straw. To fix your alligator scales, you will have to ask elsewhere, but I am here to help you restore some moisture into that dried out, winter-ruined hair of yours!
Enter here Unite Seven Seconds Conditioner Leave in Detangler. Unite is a new line that combines the high quality ingredients of Europe with the cutting edge technology of America. I bought this product on a whim from my hairdresser and had never used it, similar to a few other things I have bought. Ok fine a lot of the things I buy, but I digress. I decided to try it for the first time about three months ago and I am officially in love. It is a fine mist that smells incredible that you spray all over wet hair. After I spray it on, I can literally feel within seconds (7 seconds perhaps...hmmmmmmmm...maybe I am onto something) that my hair is softer and more moisturized . It is very light and more moisturizing than probably any product I have ever used. I ran out last week and didn't use it the last time I washed my hair, and I felt a definite and noticeable difference. My hair felt off until I washed it again, this time not making the mistake to be out of this wonderful product again.
Kate here! Buy this product! Ok ok...I guess I need to take a step back. It's Kate here, and I would like to be the first to welcome myself back to the wonderful and magical world that is megsmakeup! I am so sorry that I had to disappear for a bit. I am growing up and learning that the world is often a lot harder and sadder than it seems when you are young, and I found I needed to take some time for myself and my family to find my ability to laugh at it all again. But now I am back, ready to mock my 7th grade blue lipstick, first date waxing rash, black neck hair from a sloppy dye job and other such beauty mishaps with the only ladies who will understand, my fellow megettes!
So to start things off right, I have decided to review something I have wanted to since I first tried it, Shu Uemera's Art of Hair Moisture Velvet Shampoo. So to jump back in where I started...Buy This Product! I know it sometimes seems like a lot of the products we review here get excellent reviews (or maybe we just have divine choice in what we choose to talk about) but I cannot give this shampoo higher marks. When my hairdresser first used this on my hair, she was using it after painting straight bleach on my scalp and leaving it on for 45 minutes. She stopped washing me and said, "feel your hair," and I did. I would have fallen down if I were not securely stabilized in the death trap neck brace that is a shampoo bowl (seriously people...can we find some way to make those more comfortable...anything will do really). My hair felt softer and silkier and more luxurious than it had ever felt in its entire life, including after countless expensive deep conditioning treatments. And this was from only a shampoo. I immediately bought it of course, and I can say that it only gets better in time.
