Goddess Granny here! After a dull brown "Winter" in South Texas, I'm finally starting to see LOTS of color again: fresh green leaves, bluebonnets in the fields so bright it hurts to stare at them, delicate pink blossoms on the peach tree...Every where I look there's another amazing shade to inspire and delight me! I am motivated and soothed by color and very little thrills me more than when it's used to enhance or create something beautiful especially if it's a woman! Who can forget Scarlett O'Hara's green velvet dress or Julia Robert's glam red frock in "Pretty Woman?" And don't even get me started on the eye-candy that is Sofia's Coppola's artistic vision of "Marie Antoinette", her movie of the same name, such a riot of feminine colors to grab the senses that I swoon when I watch it,!
Hell...who am I kidding,I get all giddy at Home Depot while browsing paint chips, I ADORE color and few things in this life are as influential as I see it.So when I happened upon a new to the market (but not to the world of design!) line of eyeshadow-products that actually sent me spinning in the same way. I knew that everything would be changing: the browns, beiges and greys of the darker-months have been rudely shoved to the back of my vanity to make way for pure colors in THE prettiest most luxurious packaging I'd seen in a long time...Art in itself if you will!
"Sugarpill Cosmetics" is the name of one of THE most exciting lines in the world of beauty that I've been fortunate to discover: created my Amy Doan (who herself is a work of art!) and an expansion of her successful line of "Shrinkle" clothing: she believes that "no awesome ensemble is complete without a glamorous face" and wanted something that would represent her unique stylish brand as well as enhancing the eyes of her fearless fans: her eyeshadows are totally incredible, absolutely original, and you simply have to experience the excitement of opening a box from Amy to realize what true quality inspired by a love of color and fashion REALLY can be all about!
What IS it about my inner-clock that goes all wonky whenever we have to Spring ahead or Fall back? Seriously,it's like a shot of tequila or something just grabs me by the butt and start making me act like a moron! Goddess Granny here admitting that it doesn't take much anymore for me to lose track of dates and times and sometimes I wonder if it's really my inner-Goddess who WANTS to forget these "important" times? Like the fact that I "have to" go with Mike to his High School reunion tonight? This is one social event I WISH I could forget but he won't let me! Wish me luck.
Here's a date and time I'm going to insist you do your best to remember: Saturday April 3rd at 1 PM EST. Why am I asking you to tie a ribbon around your wrist if that's what it takes to get this cemented into your pretty lil' Megheads? Because THIS is the date and time of what is SURE to be one of THE "best" events of the season, the totally interactive free and LIVE makeup lessons given by the divine Ms. Cat Hickland on her website "Cat Cosmetics!!!" I know you've seen her "Oh MY, she is SO pretty" face right here on the left-hand side of our site as well as having read more than a few reviews of her positively luscious products from many of us here and THIS will be your chance to actually see and hear this fabulous lady using her products to create looks that every one of us can wear!
Meg here! It is no secret in Hollywood that Megsmakeup.com has the inside track on all of the best brands and makeup companies. It came as zero surprise to hear that Jessica Simpson and Cacee Cobb wanted Megsmakeup approved goodie bags (in our signature pink beach bag)for the celebration and taping of the shows finale. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here since the show just premiere's tonight. But you know they tape this stuff in advance. It was about 4 months ago I watched the finale being taped and then met up with Miss Jessica and Cacee and heard them squeal when they realized what they had in their possession!
I'm going to tune in tonight and see how the show goes! It was a coincidence that the show starts tonight and then I got this article from Goddess Granny! Her article is about the worlds take on different beauty practices. Sounds like she and Jessica are the two that should have been hitting the world filming this!
About a month after Jessica and Cacee received their Megsmakeup bags I ran into Cacee at sushi. She said "Oh, I LOVED THAT BAG! Such amazing products in there! How did you know how to pick such awesome stuff?" We know because we have amazing contributors and companies and readers that educate us constantly-Thanks for that! I'll let you know what made the bag at the end of the article!
Goddess Granny here and I for one have been LOVING Meg's pink-birds eye view of what is current and cool in the world of beauty as she visits different cities all across America! Goddess Granny here who can't be in a different city every weekend herself at present but I'm truly enjoying our girl's escapades as she does NYC "big-city style" and hangs with my Darlin' Jeanasina in Minnesota in a more "real world" kind of way: just wait until her heels hit the dirt down here in South Texas, she won't know what hit her!
Goddess Granny live and coming to you from the yellow carpet on the day of all things Oscar and over the top fabulous style so I thought it'd be fun to chat a bit about this heavenly product that to my way of thinking NEVER fails to make me prettier or happier (at least in my own mind!) whenever I indulge... and yes, to indulge in a glass (okay,a bottle) of what I believe to be incomparable in the world of Champagne is on that list of over the top fabulous for sure:I'm not much of a drinker but will never say no to a glass of this divine beverage!
Now my Darlln's: I have neither the time or inclination to debate the drinking of alcohol or the precise and lengthy history complete with dates and vintages of this renowned Champagne House but I skim the surface as lightly as a dancing-bubble and make an attempt to at least whet your appetite in hopes of providing you with a few fun facts so that you too can out-dazzle the dullards at a cocktail party with your small cache of cool champagne-ralated facts...
Did you know that LVMH (they distribute this gorgeous champagne in the US) is one of THE sponsors behind our over the top fabulous "Meg's Makeup Road Trip" 2010? We also want only the BEST for all of you!
We at Meg's LOVE our women owned/operated companies and believe me, the woman behind the highly respected Veuve Clicquot Champagne is truly iconic in this arena: The matriarch of the brand, Madame Barbe Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot (1777-1866) was left a young widow ("Veuve" means widow in French) at age 27 when her husband Francois (who was the only heir to a French wine business, "Clicquot" established by his Father Philippe in 1772) died of a fever. In a bold and un-precedented move for the times, Madame Clicquot took over her husband's small champagne business and went on to develop many important technological innovations in the world of wine-making, most notably the process of "remuage" which allowed champagne to become crystal-clear and "bubbly" instead of being cloudy thus changing the face of the industry forever. This innovation in particular gave Madame Clicquot and her champagne world-renown and was considered/still is by many including myself "the BEST!"
Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder where something has gone to or come from? I know I do and as a Goddess Granny on the run much of the time, I simply cannot risk yet another Post-It note stuck to my purse in hopes of reminding me where I'm at on a physical level as well as a mental one. Okay so recently I caved and Mike got me a Blackberry Bold in hopes of truly keeping my life and chit straight with the help of tech? I'm still sorting that lil' piece of plastic-stress out as well!
I'm concerned because I seem to have mis-placed the pigment in my lips: this could be due to any number of things (we'll ignore the "age" possibility:) and because I am seldom without something on to cover them, I guess maybe I just finally saw the reality for what it is and immediately began to Google "lip pigment for sale" to no avail...
Usually I don't stand on too much ceremony and am TOTALLY not above faking what needs fixin' but HOW to do it without looking like harsh via permanent cosmetics or dorky aka painting my lips on 24/7 and running the risk of looking like everyone's crazy Aunt who drinks a lot. I just want to be able to make a respectable showing at the gym and other places where a "no makeup makeup" look is mandatory. I want to wear gloss only and I want to not have it slide off the side of my mouth so it looks like I've been covertly munching gummi bears between yoga poses either! I know, I expect a lot from my cosmetics:)
I love that being a reviewer for this site exposes me to products, people and things that I'd simply never find on my own: I can search with the best of them but sometimes, the VERY best solutions and products are best left to those in the inner-circle of chic knowledge so when I received a lip liner pencil from the oh so respected cosmetic house of Borghese named a "Perfetta Lip Pencil", I immediately knew something good would be in that luxury box because "Perfetta" translates from Italian as "perfect" which sure works for me!
Goddess Granny have you nothing better to do than obsess about makeup?
Seriously, I couldn't write this review fast enough and yes, I do have a very full and interesting life, ! It's just that when something makes me shiver in delight to my very core (and trust me,it takes more than it used to!) I have to share it with my sister Megettes asap! I NEVER want it to be said that Meg's didn't give you everything you need to be your MOST fabulous, we've got your backs and every other beautiful inch of you covered! "It's sold out until Thursday..." "It's sold out,we can call you when we get more in..." I HATE hearing those words in regards to something I want as like many of us, I want it all, now thank you very much. I actually created a stir and had a bevy of beauties surround me at my local Sephora yesterday because I was just SO excited about a new product.I know there are SO many to choose from these days that it's even hard for a seasoned glam-girl like myself to zero in and focus well enough to sort through all the stuff but one thing I DO know is when something is unique to the market that will absolutely be branded as the "best of" by every beauty-editor out there within weeks.
When Dustin Hoffman as "Charlie" spoke those words in one of my all time fav movies, "Rainman", I knew exactly what he meant! This Goddess Granny LOVES anything that sparkles, shines, blings, whatever you want to call it in all it's forms and honestly doesn't believe that you're ever too young or too old to enjoy a bit of glittering enhancement in your life! However,as a girl who tops out @ 5'10" and who has never been accused of looking "subtle", I do tend to rein in my wattage in order to hopefully avoid looking like a parade float :)
For many years, I have been a HUGE fan of a gorgeous fuschia-haired designer whose been dubbed "The Queen of Irreverent Luxury", the fabulous and oh so sparkly Miz Tarina Tarantino: from a young age, this lady knew how to make a statement and as the founder of her own brand along with her husband, she has been the gold-standard throughout the world for creating high-style, sparkling, and over the top girly-girl and amazing accessories! I personally own quite a few of her jewelry pieces and they never fail to delight and never go out of style... they make me happy when I wear them as is the designer's intent: she wants all girls of all ages to be their own true "sparkling selves" and I for one continue to covet everything she produces!
"I wanna be your fantasy maybe U could be mine? Just leave it all up 2 me we could have a good time..." Kiss by Prince
I defy anyone not to become motivated to go wreck a bit of romantic-related havoc when a Prince song begins to play? Goddess Granny sighing here: it may not be quite the right time for a motivated bout of "Spring Fever" yet but it's that red-lipstick-circled day on the calendar (and no, I don't think it's a "Hallmark card day"!) when all the lil' cupids with their chubby bare butts go out to frolic and shoot unsuspecting mortals with heart-tipped arrows in hopes of inciting a bit of passionate love and romance!
Happy Valentines Day to all! If you don't choose to share it with anyone, try and make it a point to love yourself just a bit more on this day devoted to love in all it's many forms! Do a little something special for you or for someone you care about... smooch a stranger... smile and flirt with an old guy... do something random, ridiculously romantic and reckless whatever it might be because we all know the world is sadly in need of a bit more love these days so represent and throw some extra goodness around!
When I think about makeup, which does tend to occupy a lot of my time, this Goddess Granny's mind always starts with the genius that was Kevyn Aucoin: his career spanned 20 years and if you've never browsed through his book "Making Faces", you haven't lived! The man truly held the power to transform, design and inspire in every stroke of his brush and I remember mourning when he passed all too young. He absolutely had a profound effect on my own personal "look" for years and I still browse my signed copy of his book to this day, always picking up on some nuance that only he could describe in such a way that a mere mortal might believe that they too could end up looking like his models did. He was iconic and will always be a genius of the art to me.
Almost ironically, his own signature line of cosmetics was released initially not long before he died and even today, I have yet to find a line that SO does what a true "artist" would expect from his tools: perfectly formulated and shaded foundations, liquid-lip colors that gloss and shade like nothing else, and my very favorite, his eyeshadow palettes (yes PALETTE ALERT!) that contain some of the most perfect, unusual and impossibly flattering shades of powders ever created.
I recently scored a #6 palette, pictured above, at my local Sephora on sale for 30% off: the colors are nothing I thought I'd love as I do but the texture, rich depth of color and the way they glide on like silk and last forever has me hunting down the entire spectrum! The pigments in these shadows allow one to wash an eyelid with sheer color or to design a look with such richness as to rival an oil painting :) Gorgeous high quality compact with mirror and 2 excellent applicators, a foam wand and a brush that really are the "best" I've found in an out of the box eyeshadow. They are SO much more beautiful in person, the aquas makes my eyes sparkle and the burgundy is velvety and sexy! This, along with my much-loved Cat Cosmetics "Hello Gorgeous" palette are the only shadow-sets that I currently allow to sit on the top of my vanity these days! (Note: the inside drawers are full of others just scratching to get out:)
Goddess Granny here on this Superbowl Sunday: I "like" football but have no emotional connection to either team this year so may the best one win and hope it's a helluva' game! Most girls I know are either out shopping, at Zumba class, or simply finding some other out of the house way to amuse themselves while our men-folk consume mass quantities of beer, chicken wings and pizza while burping loudly and swearing/throwing cans at the TV! I also know a few women (waves to a couple of her sisters...) who will be sitting right there with and more power to 'ya'! :)
