Gigi here! I am "chipped off." I had the chance to return to my wonderful school for a special service and my excitement was akin to a child's on Christmas Eve. I wanted to look perfect and that justified shopping for new clothing and pulling out my big guns, my arsenal of most-loved cosmetics to glow, the ones I keep preserved under glass like a firehose, broken only for emergencies.
Repugnant is the best adjective to describe my nails. Medications, anesthesia, and dyes given to me have wrought devastation. They grow slowly, peel faster than an as-advertised-on-TV onion chopper, and aren't reacting to my dutiful intake of B vitamins. I was running late (nothing new for me) and my favorite nail products were not in the aforementioned treasure chest. I opted to apply an express-dry topcoat as a base, color, and then finished with another layer of speed dry. (Pigment applied to bare nails will tend to leave a hard-to-remove yellow stain behind.) I detest what I call "sheet marks," those free-style swirling designs and lumps resembling the work of Jackson Pollock, the ones you find if your polish doesn't dry thoroughly. None for me. I began to sing "I Feel Pretty," "Isn't She Lovely?" and an edited version of "Werewolves of London" with the line "I saw a werewolf at Trader Vic's; her nails were perfect."
Meg here! Hmmm, maybe Chris Brown and Roman Polanski were busy. Are we really so desperate for role models and celebrity that it has come to this Nike?
Good thing this wasn't Jimmy Choo. I'm never in anything less then 3 inches so it's not a huge sacrifice for me to not buy those ugly ass shoes.
What is in your purse? I don't have a whole lot in my purse because I rarely get to touch up during the day (so i have to make sure my make up is applied carefully in the morning). Very bland... coins, Avon pampering balm, Nivea soft kiss balm, Nivea strawberry balm and Palmer's cocoa butter spf balm... I have no idea why I have sooo many in there!
Guilty Pleasure: Spending money, too much money, on clothes that I either already have, or will never wear. My wardrobe is completely full of summer clothes, but I always end up buying more tops and dresses. Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: I have pale olive skin during winter, but I get tanned easily during summer. I have pretty sensitive skin, it gets very dry during winter (but I still break out sometimes - not as much compared to high school years). And pores, I hate them! Beauty inspiration: Corny, but I have to say my mum. She captures my idea of natural beauty, she's almost 50 but she still looks 35 and the only make up she uses is lipstick. She has silky smooth skin, always have me in awe.
Hey everybody! You know what time it is? That's right! It's time to read another segment of Body Beautiful with Jeanasina!
So, I'm sure most of you have heard of the Murad brand – it's been around since 1989! The fact that it's still in existence tells me that their products must be working and they must continue to have advances in their skin care lines which keep up with the times and needs of women in 2009! Three of Murad's newer advanced skincare line products consists of their Vitalic Energizing Pomegranate Cleanser, Moisturizer and Exfoliating Mask!
I'm here to talk about the mask! Well first of all, right now, everywhere you look as well as in every ad you see and hear, there seems to be a constant message telling us that pomegranates are the way to go. I thought of Meg immediately as I was writing, because I bet she would love to sip on a pomegranate martini while reading my review right now! In case any of you want to sip on a pomegranate martini while I talk (it would be very appropriate)...here's a fun little video that tells you exactly how to make it!http://video.about.com/cocktails/Pomegranate-Martini.htm
MissRo here to talk about eyeshadow ...AGAIN! I'm telling you, I can't get enough. Today I'm talking about Stila's "Barbie Loves Stila All Doll'd Up" palette. Not three, not five, but twelve colors to choose from! The colors, no matter how bright, earthy, or natural, are all rich in consistency, smooth in application, and last all day.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Barbie. Various brands have paid homage to the famous doll this year. Stila decided to create a whole makeup collection based on Barbie. Not just the palette, there is Liquid Liner, three Smudge Pots, three Lip Glaze, three Lip Enamel Luxe Gloss, a 1959, 1971, and 1980 Barbie doll mini collection, and the Talking Palette.
I have to tell you though, as I write this post, the palette is already sold out on the Stila site! Thankfully, you can still purchase this palette on Sephora. Better get it while it's hot!
Meg here! We had quite a few contests going on and here are the lucky Meg Heads that have won! If your name is below please get in touch with me so I can get your fabulous gifts off to you!
The Winner Of the MD Confidential line is Savvysherri. She said in her post "savvysherri says-My skin issues are major dark circles from working at night (I am at work right now) and dark blotches on the sides of my cheeks which are possibly from driving even though I use sunscreen everyday. I also have rosacea which adds redness around my nose and on my cheeks and on my nose.
I use Dr. Perricone's Cleanser everyday and his firming moisturizer (Face firming activator) on day's when my boyfriend is not there to tell me that my face smells like a fish. I use Dr. Brandt's microdermabrasion every few days to exfoliate, I really do feel that it works the best for me. I used Murad's Perfecting Day Cream for brigthening before they changed the formula (it no longer contains the brightness it once had). I used this on brides when I did makeovers it really brightened the face.
Guilty Pleasure: bad MTV reality shows. Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: My skin is pale and ruddy. It's very sensitive and gets red and rashes quite easily.
Beauty inspiration: I find beauty inspiration all around me. In magazines, on TV, at the grocery store, old movies and at the farmer's market, basically everywhere. I like to combine looks I see. I love to play around and I am all over the place with the type of looks I like to create so I could never name just one person whose look inspires me.
"It's raining,it's pouring..." Goddess Granny just put on her flip-flops and went out to splash around in a puddle! Some new beauty treatment aka a mud-pedi or something you ask? Naw...it's just that it's literally been MONTHS since I have seen the wet stuff and it did me good to just go wallow in the mud for a few minutes.
Sometimes those "simple pleasures" really ARE the best!
I also love when a company keeps thing real and simple: an edited menu of fabulous products containing elegantly pure and refined ingredients can be more satisfying than an entire buffet of less than exciting fare! I for one am a believer that quality=longevity as well.
A company that has been in biz since 1969? Obviously they are doing a LOT right! With an incredible, creative, and thoughtful line of specialty bath and body products, "Naturally Upper Canada" has achieved this amazing degree of success and continues to set the bar in the bath and body industry. Exceptional quality-standards in a product will win out over trendy packaging every time with me and although I do love a good glitter-infused tub o' lovely here and there, I adore their sparse but beautifully-shaped and simple presentation in a rich brown jar. Their commitment to quality and purity combined with exceptional value in products that are divine simply cannot be beat!
Vocation: I am the Director of Communications for a large Canadian magazine publishing company. What is in my purse:Benefit’s Her Glossiness in clear, Bloom lipstick in Cranberrry, Rimmel lipliners in Natural and Wine, Becca Cream Blush in Wild Orchid, Korres lip butter in plum, Bloom lipgloss in Pink Pink and Sephora lipgloss sample.
Guilty Pleasures: Watching True Blood over and over again!
Skin Type: I have medium skin tone. VERY sensitive to almost all face moisturizing products. Combination skin on the dry side - usually dehydrated.
Beauty Inspiration: My mom. She is 80. Never sat in the sun, or drank coffee and has amazing skin. Used Nivea every night and Guerlain moisturizer everyday!
MissRo here! If there is one product I cannot have enough of, it's eye shadow. I wear a different eye shadow color everyday. Sometimes it's something very muted and natural, sometimes it's very colorful if I'm wearing all black, or sometimes it's a very dark, smoldering eye if I'm going out to an event.
My hubby always says to me "I like you with little or no makeup". However, how can a woman go with little, to no makeup when we have all of these amazing brands with amazing products out there!
I remember when I bought the first Sephora Blockbuster palette. It had something like 64 eye shadows, 20 lip glosses, 6 blushes, and the list went on. When that package arrived at my place and I opened it, my husband took one look at it, then looked at me, and shook his head.
