CYBER MONDAY! 5daysonly.com MONDAYS WITH MEG!

Sun, 11/30/2008 - 9:20pm
  • Mondays With Meg
  • Miscellaneous

Meg here! Welcome to Cyber Monday. How many shoping terms can they throw at us anyway? Black Friday, cyber Monday, all leads to broke Tuesday! Arrgh, even though I try I am never able to really able to shrink my holiday list. You know it's bad when even Oprah is cutting back. I found a site that has a realy cool concept though and I WANT TO PASS THE SECRET CODE OF 1230 5daysonly.com OFF TO YOU!!!

Meg, what are you talking about? What is 5daysonly.com

Sometimes some really, superduper high-end brands don't completely sell out of a style. Sometimes they don't want to go to an Overstock store like TJ Maxx or Marshalls or even Loehman's They just don't want that brand assosciation dahling! The bottom line though is they still have to sell their stuff..They just want to do it...Quietly!

Great, so it only lasts for 5 days?

5 days per brand, so you only have 5 days to grab it Citizens of Humanity at SEVENTY PERCENT OFF A new designer every 5 days. I mean if you're going to have to buy gifts you might as well get really chi-chi fancy dancy things for a steal. Retail is for dummies! Why pay Neiman's prices? The brand that is 70% OFF is the very posh Citizen's of Humanity. The secret access code is 1230

I thought you'd like that little tip if you're going to be putting a dent in your list. I'm going to be doing my Christmas shopping but I wish I was still at the age when I could ask "Do you want a macaroni necklace or pencil cup?"

Every year it creeps up on me quicker and quicker! I just absolutely refuse to step into a mall this year. I'm all about sipping my coffee and shopping online. I know we always link to Sephora.com but I'm wondering do more of you purchase more in the store for makeup then online? I like to test out lipgloss colors more then try things on in dressingrooms.

In this economy I'm definitely tightening my belt a bit! Any sites or tips you ladies have would be great!

I hope you all keep your sanity this holiday season. Actually, total sanity is a pipedream. Let's try to keep it to 1 meltdown! 'Tis the season!

SKIN NUTRITION RECONDITIONING EYE SERUM! GODDESS GRANNY!

Sat, 11/29/2008 - 10:20pm
  • Goddess Granny
  • Eyes

Goddess Granny here recovering from what has been WAY too many late nights lately,WAY too much fun,and WAY too much alcohol, dancing, and contraband! But after all, in this season of "giving", don't we also have to take a bit of time to enjoy the people and places that give us pleasure as well?

Normally speaking,I'm a rather disciplined creature of habit and efficiency but sometimes you have to put on those 5" heels and let the devil have his way with you otherwise, what's it all for?

Thank God there are an ever-evolving array of technological inspired companies out there who do understand that the ravages of life at it's best and worst don't need to show up on our faces the next day!The options we have combined with the tried and true remedies of sleep, water, and aspirin allow us to rinse and repeat the fun in record time without the proof of our follies starring at us in the mirror...

Skin Nutrition is indeed one of these face savers:
"Skin Nutrition International, Inc. is a leader in and pioneer of anti-ageing cosmetology and works closely with the world's leading biotechnology companies and their scientists to deliver "cutting edge" world class products to the marketplace. Developed by internationally acclaimed cosmetic scientist, John Knowlton C.Chem, MRSC, Dip Cos. Sci (GB), Skin Nutrition International, Inc's products contain the most technologically advanced active ingredients available and these set Skin Nutrition International, Inc. apart from others as they are often the first to use them in combinations for synergistic benefits, at maximum levels for optimal efficacy. This strategy is supported by comprehensive clinical research conducted by these leading biotechnology companies, to validate the efficacies of the active ingredients used."

I had seen some of the products in catalogs and stores but because I tend to get overwhelmed by all the goodness out there, hadn't yet tried anything they offered so when I received a sleek silver cylinder of their "Reconditioning Eye Serum" to evaluate,I was even more delighted than usual!

It's basically a "total wellness" treatment for the eye area that contains enough of the good tech-stuff to work wonders on the eye area and it could not have shown up in my mailbox at a better time! Seriously,I have done some damage lately and my eyes were looking squinty, dry, and pretty damn sorry. It's fabulous ingredients promise to reduce the symptoms of tiredness and stress while restoring that youthful glow!
There is a Santa Clause Virgina and he's just come down my chimmney in a silver cylinder,LOL!

Gorgeous packaging and product, the texture is smooth and luscious without a DROP of stickiness or residue and I am swearing that within minutes of the first application,I DID look smoother and more rested as well as a LOT less crinkly and wrinkly!

I have had the op to test a few eye products recently but this one is by far the most effective the soonest! It feels a bit like you "have something on" at first but within seconds,it just works it's magic and you look incredible! Makeup glides on over and I have been using it day and night with truly obvious and long-lasting results!I am a bit in awe of this one...

I will not lie to you, their prices are in the "Upper East Side" category but I'm beginning to think that less of a product that WORKS compared to more of one that simply does the job is the way to go? I can totally see myself replacing this when it's gone and if you are also in need of a shot in the eye to really get you glammed up for the Season or simply to ease away the stress left behind by the thought of funky old Uncle Joe and moth-bally Aunt Milly coming to visit,do yourself and indulge or make sure your house-Elf sees this on your "I've been a good girl" list...I truly think this one's worth it!!!

Buy it here: The site is informative, easy to use,and impressive as well which makes a dif for me these days...I am weary of snowflake-shaped falling cursors and computer generated Holiday music on websites!

Skin Nutrition BUY IT HERE!

Chime on in if you've experienced Skin Nutrition or any other eye serums you love!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY! AVEENO! DRUGSTORE DEAL!

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 11:20pm
  • Drugstore Deals
  • Body

Gigi here, with gratitude and Aveeno . . .

I cannot let Thanksgiving pass without some personal remarks about real beauty. You're aware that I've had problems with my eyes and headaches that stupify surgeons. Finally--I believe I've found physicians with solutions. But I lost my precious mom and we were like the same person in two bodies. The Lord took her swiftly and gently; people grapple with horrific cancer for years, but she was diagnosed on August 15 and buried on October 13. That amazes me; God heard the prayers I could not verbalize. We were spared much. This has been tough. No, it's been worse than tough. But all in all, I am simply thankful!

My mother was a consummate beauty, with nary a wrinkle in her 80's. We howled; she would study her flawless complexion and ask if we saw lines. It happens at that age--not for her. However, it was and is her inner loveliness that stunned me. She never complained about her illness but asked me to be happy instead, reminding me to be grateful for all gifts, from the blue sky, roses, and foliage to the skin on a peach and the color of a pomegranate. She contested that it was God's handiwork for us to enjoy. Splendor is seen in my husband, sister, family, and friends here for being patient with me for manifold reasons, even during my "primal meltdowns." I don't deserve them yet am blessed.

It glows it in the administration, faculty, staff, and students of my school (Bishop Canevin in Pittsburgh). These brilliant, multi-talented people possess sincere faith, love, and empathy and it means much. They live their beliefs. I treasure their cards, words, gifts. They helped me to pray when I couldn't and ask me to join them at affairs, welcoming me warmly. And I get paid for this? (Um, please don't take away my salary.)

Beauty is also the readers and reviewers at Meg's. When I came aboard in June, I believe it was for many reasons, in part as preparation for the angst that was to come. You have been enormously kind and I am humbled. You are precious for your comments, jokes, the articles you've sent, the prayers you've written and said, phone calls, uplifting CD's, sachets, unbelievable handmade jewelry, makeup, offers to send photos, and more. My husband contests that I am a "Meg's Makeup junkie" and he is correct! The candid support system I have experienced comforts me in a way I simply cannot describe. I can't cry when I read your hysterical, witty remarks.

Oh, and it's definitely Meg. She's not just a gorgeous face and body--Meg is the epitome of inner and outer magnificence with her generosity, honesty, brilliance, tenacity, and interest in our well-being. She's a woman who took an idea for a product site and created an incredible, interactive place where we can go to share our joys and sorrows as sisters.

As for a product review, I'll make it brief. I bought Aveeno's® "Positively Smooth Shower & Shave Cream" and thought, "Yeah, right, like this will work" (about $6.00). It does! I find the scent nondescript and prefer more pungent fragrances, but this formula contains glycerin, soy, wax, and emollients to allow you to shave so closely and comfortably that hair growth is actually inhibited. It's great for sensitive skin and leaves you feeling like smooth marble, a huge help in paring your routine.

Have a peace- and joy-filled Thanksgiving. Love you, dazzling and dear ladies--you give me more happiness than any cosmetic can!

SKIN NUTRITION DYNAMIC WRINKLE REDUCER! BODY BEAUTIFUL!

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 1:29pm
  • Body Beautiful
  • Face

Jeanasina here, With Thanksgiving right on the heels of this review, I’m sure people are going to be saying things like “Ewwwww don’t make me have to look at that ugly turkey neck!” Or....”There is enough lose skin on that old hen to make a blanket out of it!”

All these heartwarming thanksgiving terms bring to mind the condition of my skin after 60 years of getting plucked by a lifetime of skin abuse! So...ANY chance I get to put some new and improved beauty treatment that is raring to plump up, de-wrinkle, un-sag, smooth-out, de-bag, and just plain bring life back into some old hen skin I will be shouting... “Well honey - climb aboard my face, neck and décolletage and let’s see what you’ve got!”

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to have my turkey-trottin mailman deliver to my door a silver vial of Dynamic Wrinkle Reducer by Skin Nutrition! Immediately upon ripping open the box with my claw like hands, I read the directions..”Recommended Use: Apply to the face, neck & décolleté, after cleaning, in the morning or evening on its own or over the Face Lifting Serum. Follow with Environmental Protection Serum. Massage thoroughly into the skin. Avoid the eye area.” I also looked the product up before using it because I adore information and wanted to make sure I did everything exactly right so I would get the maximum results from this product! In looking at the website I saw that this lovely vial of skin extract cost a whopping $185.00!! Eureka! Allow me to mention at this point that my rumplestilskin exterior has never had anything of this elite nature price range on it up to this exact moment in time! I could not wait to try it! Drum roll please! Let the games begin! I’m going to need to purchase a safe!

I wrapped my head in a turban, put a pretend candy cigarette into a gold cigarette holder I got at the local thrift store between my scarlet lips, and began to talk with a French accent. I was ready to begin my euphoric experience into the life of the wealthy! The silver vial has a pump on it and I pumped a millimeter onto my trembling fingers so nothing would be wasted and proceeded to apply gentle circular miracle working dollops to my face, neck and the sad terrain that used to be my lovely chest area. I did this again the next morning and the next night and have been doing it every morning and night for almost 2 weeks now and...

I have to say..I THINK IT’S DOING SOMETHING!!! Something Good! It appears that some of the lines on my forehead and face are not as apparent, my neck is a little less turkey like and best of all, my chest, which has creases like a well used old road map from YEARS of full on sun-tanning, actually LOOKS BETTER! I didn’t think anything could make it look better but it appears that Dynamic Wrinkle Reducer just might live up to its name!

In conclusion, I’d say the Skin Nutrition brand has great marketing write-ups, it sounds like they have several compelling products that every woman who wants to be beautiful would want to try. I am pleased with the results I have experienced in this short time with the Dynamic Wrinkle Reducer. I can imagine how great it would be to slather on ALL their companion products for a year and THEN see if anyone would even recognize me!! I’m guessing the results would be like watching Nanny McPhee! If you ever get the chance to watch that delightful movie you will notice how little by little Nanny McPhee looks less and less unappealing as the movie unfolds, her loveliness comes out. If this product line does what it says...maybe this same thing could happen to me or you! For now, I’ll enjoy the benefits of this exciting product and consider it an early Christmas gift until the last dollop of magic eeks it’s way out of the silver cylinder onto my currently happy skin. Then eventually I’ll probably turn back into the aging me who currently resides in my Jeanasina physique.

You can buy this product and get more information on its attributes at:

Until next time...Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for reading my reviews - I personally am thankful I get to write about the things I do and for all of you that read what I write! Hugs to all,

Your one of a kind Body Beautiful reviewer: Gizzard lips Jeanasina (still on the hunt for a lip-dewrinkler that doesn’t involve needles or face contortion exercises for 2 hours a day! )

WELEDA CITRUS DEODORANT! GREEN CHI TUESDAYS!

Tue, 11/25/2008 - 1:25pm
  • Green Chi Tuesdays
  • Body

Sweetassgal here! to bring you the best natural and organic products our Mother Earth has to offer us by the way of Green Chi Tuesdays!

There are many things about myself that are far from perfect. However, body odor and profuse sweating has never been a problem of mine. I could even go one day without wearing deo and not worry about offending B-O. In recent posts I mentioned that I'm looking for an all natural deodorant that not only treats our earth kindly, doesn't infuse our bodies with ick and still keeps sweat and odor at bay. I followed the advice of many and lead the way to Weleda all natural spray deodorant...my scent of choice of course was Citrus.

It just so happens I was in my home town of Weed (don't laugh...I've heard ALL the jokes!) the weekend I got the advice to try Weleda. My mother, sister and I went into neighboring Mt. Shasta City to buy a few things from our favorite local health food store Berryvale Natural Foods. Being a fan of Trader Joes and Whole Foods I can still appreciate patronizing the local market and supporting the little guy. Should you ever find yourself on I-5 just 1 hour from the Oregon border, do yourself a treat and stop off on South Mt. Shasta boulevard and take a peek inside. Of course the food selection is great and the people are small town friendly, but they also have a wonderful cafe and a small corner of the shop devoted to adorably hippie chic clothing at great prices. I personally found a white sundress that could fetch upwards of a Ben Franklin at a San Francisco boutique and snatched it up along with my Weleda deodorant and some organic ice cream. Perfection!

Over the course of a month I've faithfully stuck to the Weleda Citrus Deodorant. Realizing that the thought of an all natural deodorant that works as well as traditional deo's is a bit of a stretch I decided to put aside my preconceived notions and just try it out. I liked the cool feeling of the spray on my skin...about 3 or 4 pumps and I was adequately covered. It seemed to dry fairly quickly if I applied the "Tune In Tokyo" method. For those of you who don't remember...tune in tokyo consists of a teenage girl standing with her hands on her head, waving from side to side (that's how it dried my pits) and some pre-pubescent boy tries to "tune in" by adjusting her boobies like radio knobs. Silly I know...but we didn't have the internet back then. Boys had to get an education somehow! Anyway...I liked the scent and wore my new find with confidence. But it didn't last. I almost always had to re-apply a second or third time and by the end of the day I swear it actually amplified any funk...and I've never been stinky in my life! My husband demanded that I toss it out and never use it again. I persisted and went month long trying to see if my body would adjust to the lighter protection. It never did and halfway through the bottle I tossed it out. When you catch yourself saying "what the heck is that smell" and it turns out to be you...its time to throw in the hemp towel.

So sadly for me, the search continues. Though I've read lots of positive reviews and many say it works for them, which I find wonderful, it just wasn't a go for this gal's pit protection. But fear not, the quest continues and I will find an earth friendly deo that doesn't ratchet up the funk factor. GLAM ON!!!!

Meg chiming in, I didn't tell Sweetassgal that we had already reviewed the Weleda Rose Deodorant. It shows how a scent or even how different our ladies opinions are. The girls really liked it in the Rose Scent. Maybe it is scent, maybe Weleda tweaked the formula or just different body chemistry. This is a big debate!

Ladies you be the tie-breakers! How do you feel about Weleda's Deodorants?

HOT PANTS COSMETICS LIP LUST LIP GLOSS! MONDAYS WITH MEG! SALE!

Sun, 11/23/2008 - 8:44pm
  • Mondays With Meg
  • Lips

Meg here! Hope you're all geared up for holiday week!

The wheel. The flushing toilet. Xanax. All great discoveries made by man, maybe a woman, it probablly was a woman that got the whole thing going and some pushy guy got the credit for it~but hey besides the point. I just love entrepreneur/inventors and Miss Brooke Boles from Hot Pants Cosmetics is all that wrapped in a gorgeous girl package with aheavenly mane of raven hair as the bow. It would be easy to be so envious of such a smart, gorgeous and just super nice person all wrapped into one fine box if we didn't need her. We need her.

I remember struggling with my knife at the dinner table, quickly trying to re-apply lipstick while my date was in the restroom. I would inch the candle from the dining table closer to my table so I could slyly apply without ending up with a mess. If we can put a man on the moon why can't we have a self-sufficient lipgloss with not only a mirror but a light? I can't be the only one thinking this. Well, good thoughts are a dime a dozen. Miss Boles took her little Miss Smarty self and created it!

Lip Lust Lip Gloss not only comes in an array of flattering colors but has a mirror and a light! The light turns on as soon as you twist the tube open. It's not a glaring spotlight but a subtle light, just enough to illuminate your face in even the most inconvenient places. The mirror is not breakable glass but a reflective strip on the side so you can kiss the knife as a guide goodbye! Your pucker never had it so easy.

Not only is the package just suber but the product introduces the new ingredient for plumping lips without sting or tingle! Cottonseed Oil fills in lines and also moisturizes, the scent on these glosses are also sugary sweet and make each kiss delicious.

Hot Pants Cosmetics has been a huge supporter of Mesmakeup.com since our infant stages and it being the holidays and all..Well, Brooke's in a giving mood.

You can see the instant discount she's giving us the Lip Lust in the picture. It's not just limited to the Lip Lust, HOT PANTS IS GIVING US 35% OFF ALL PURCHASES ONLINE WITH THE COUPON CODE blackfriday09 Free Shipping on any orders over $50 on top of that generous savings. There's more the few girls ladies that I know will squeal with delight being gifted these for the holidays. I can knock 5 off my list and get free shipping. Thanks very much Brooke!

Maybe you don't find Lip Gloss generically defined as inspiring but I find simple ideas usually are. If it's bugging you, know there are probably 5 million women out there it's also driving nutso. Kudos, for this light/mirror idea. I know, just from reading your comments that the megsmakeup readers are the smartest bunch of ladies on the planet. I know we have the next Tomima Edmark reading this! Who's that? She wanted to make a way to make a ponytail prettier and easier. She invented a simple do-dad called the "Topsy-Tail" Congrats on that breaking 100 Million Dollars in sales!

Get off your butt this year and re-invent that mousetrap! Sorry to get off topic but I love when a smart women shows follow-through and can make our lives easier=better.

Ladies what did you think of Hot Pants Cosmetics Lip Lust Lip Gloss?

CLINIQUE CLARIFYING MAKEUP CLEAR SKIN FORMULA! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 11:40am
  • Saturday At Sephora
  • Face

Katie here, I just don't know what the problem is. I guess it's hormones. But for the last 9 months or so, my skin that has always been relatevely "problem-free" just likes to break out constantly. I used to only break ou on my chin or forehead but I get them in the middle of my cheek now! I think I'm even more self-conscious about my skin than I would have been at 13 or 14 because I know I'm doing everything right! I take my makeup off at night; I moisturize and tone. I do masks! So I appreciate any product that helps in any way!

This summer I sort of got into the Clinique Acne Solutions line - I love the Salycilic Acid clarifying lotion just to dry out all those zit-y suckers! And it really does smooth your skin. Now usually, you think wearing a complexion product (foundation, tinted moisturizer, etc ) is sort of counterproductive to healing your skin. So basically daytime = pore clogging, nighttime = treatment). But with the Clinique Clarifying Makeup Clear Skin formula the you get makeup and treatment in one. And it really works! Its a "foundation that gives oiily skin a smooth, perfecting look. Helps skin stay easily blemish free - controiling oil, minimizing pores. A soft-matte, velvety finish keeps skin flawless-looking all day."

And at $20.50 it's about half the cost of a lot of high-end cosmetic foundation prices. Plus it has a gorgeous finish.

I'd love to hear what anyone else who's tried it thinks:

Clinique, BUY IT HERE!

CAROLINA HERRERA 212 SEXY MEN COLOGNE! FIRST TIME REVIEWED BY A MAN! WELCOME LA FRED!

Fri, 11/21/2008 - 11:06am
  • Body

LAFRED here, So, I'm over at Meg's house a couple of weeks ago and we're drinking and smoking on her patio. Well, I was drinking and she was smoking since I gave that habit up a few years back. And since I had recovered my sense of smell in the interim, Meg likes to make me smell things. So, on this particular day, she jumps up, runs inside and returns with a bottle of 212 Sexy Men, insisting that I HAVE to try it and I HAVE to write a review.

I'm extremely particular about the scent I wear and my general impression of most chic cologne is that it reminds me of shiny, silver shirt wearing club rats with too many chains and an excess of chest hair.

Knowing I'm not likely to find it pleasant and, in an effort to get out of having to do any writing, I immediately spray a little on my arm to see what it's like. As I expected, my first impression was: player. Plus, it seemed to me to have a very talc-y smell to it. I waved my arm in another guest's face to get her opinion: talc and she said "definitely not you."

Score! I'm gonna get out of this yet. But Meg was not to be discouraged and forced me to take the bottle home.

So, after a few days procrastinating and sticking with my regular cologne, I decide to give the 212 a go in the real world. The bottle design is quite nice (I have the 3.4oz size) with a magnetic cap, but rather bulky for packing for travel. Maybe the 1.7oz would better? The spray pattern is wide, even and a very fine mist. Held at a distance of about 12 inches it easily covers my neck and both shoulders. Since that first night, I no longer find it to be so talc-y smelling, but the scent is definitely very sweet (vanilla) and a bit feminine at first blush.

After an hour or so, it mellows nicely on my skin and I no longer notice it so much. I've been wearing it frequently since, but haven't been out and about socially as much (work, work, work) and, as a result, have only had 1 woman notice it. Her response was, "You smell GOOD!" so, that's encouraging...

Any thoughts on LAFred's post? This is his first one but I'm going to badger him to post something guy related pretty often to help navigate us with the holiday shopping reason! Fred go fill out your profile more completely!! Thanks for helping us out!~Meg

GARNIER NUTRITIONISTE SKIN RENEW ANTI-PUFF EYE ROLLER! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 5:48pm
  • Drugstore Deals
  • Eyes

Gigi here! here, with a "Drugstore Deal Dilemma . . ."

The holidays are quickly approaching--time to prep your skin before we explore dramatic cheap chic color and more! It's the best time of the year for a "quick fix" if you stay out longer than normal at parties or spend too much time shopping. I am OCD about keeping my eyes fit, young-looking, and wrinkle-free. John Mayer's line from one of his songs--"Gravity, stay the hell away from me"--best describes my beauty philosophy. I expected Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller to live up to all of its claims when I needed it most ($13.00).

Meg advises us to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. When I received a copy of in my mailbox Redbook today, I had a feeling that it would list this item as one of "2008's Beauty's Top Forty" advertised on the cover. It does! Deep breath, Gigi, and tell your own experience.

My sister came upon it the week before our wonderful mother passed away in October, and the skin under our eyes was already distended due to continual tears. I am on an unpaid leave from my teaching position for multiple eye problems, and the shady areas under my eyes made me a perfect candidate to evaluate it. This sheer serum promises to reduce puffiness and minimize dark circles. Heavy crèmes and certain lipids in eye products trap fluid under the delicate skin in this area, causing eyes to appear bloated. Garnier is lightweight, with caffeine and Pro-Vitamin B5 as its chief ingredients for a sheer, oil-free, generally hypoallergenic experience. Caffeine is not as powerful as advertised. It has shown promise as an ingredient to repair cellulite but does little for imparting brightness (if it worked as touted on cellulite, I would be soaking in a tub of coffee now rather than typing!) It has glycerin, but this is a dual-edged sword. It is a humectant but, because of its ability to attract water from the environment and the lower layers of skin, can exacerbate issues and harm rather than heal.

The applicator is brilliant--simply roll the metal ball under eyes and love the immediate cooling, comforting effect (for a real treat, store it in your fridge). It disappears into skin and dries quickly. There is little risk of inflammation; itching eyes are soothed. Aside from the revitalizing sensation, my puffiness was relieved minimally at best. When it came to helping dark circles, I saw no change--as in nada, zip, zilch. There is an honest notation on Garnier's label which states that this works only on skin's outer layer (applause, applause for them). Translation? It feels wonderful, but do not expect miracles with this. If you're looking for longer-term results, other crèmes will do a great deal more. Kindly feel free to contact me for both penny-pinching and pricey ideas (pretty please, with Splenda on top!).

Suggestion: I tend to love all things Neutrogena since using their anti-acne soap and hand crème in high school. Try their "Three-in-One" Concealer (about $9.99). Dark circles are removed instantly, and the anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera and green tea work on bags. It contains silicone and derivatives. These serve as gentle emollients, imparting the feel of silk. Sun protection of 20 is included; even during the winter, skin must be guarded from harsh cold and drying heat.

Okay--I did the research. There will be a quiz on this next week . . .

Did this Garnier work for you or are you in the same ship as me?

NIOXIN SCALP THERAPY! HUMP DAY HAIR DAY!

Wed, 11/19/2008 - 10:09am
  • Hump Day Hair
  • Hair
  • Miscellaneous

Sharond in for Katie for Wednesday Hump Hair Day!...

Years ago I was losing my hair at a rate that had me very concerned. After going to the doctor to see if anything was wrong and getting a clean bill of health, I really feared I was following in my aunt's footsteps who had lost all her hair including eyelashes and eyebrows. I quickly started researching products to help as I was planning to go down fighting. One product I found was the Nioxin line of hair products. I bought the complete set, used them faithfully, and still my hair filled the drain. I was soon diagnosed with thyroid disease and a little Synthroid corrected the hair loss problem. The one product of the line I still use today is the Nioxin Scalp Therapy for normal hair. I hope this information is helpful; perhaps my success is due to thyroid medication but I have heard positive and negative comments about this item.

When we think about it, our scalp is really an extension of our facial skin and we all know the amount of money and time we spend on caring for that. Like our facial skin, our scalp is susceptible to everything we come in contact with every day such as toxins, air pollutants, chlorine, sunlight, minerals and water pollution which can affect the skin and contribute to thinning hair and aging the scalp. Nioxin Scalp Therapy is advertised as a product to keep your scalp healthy.

Nioxin Scalp Therapy is a light blue, almost turquoise-colored thick liquid. The first thing you notice is a quite strong minty fragrance. The instructions tell you to massage into your hair and scalp and leave on for 1 to 3 minutes. After about a minute you notice a slight tingle that feels so wonderful on your scalp. I enjoy the tingling almost as much as the mini scalp massage given by my hairdresser. After rinsing and towel drying, your hair is easy to comb out so this item does have some detangling ingredients. I feel my scalp is more moisturized, less dry and has just a healthier feel after using it twice a week. My hair does have a slight minty scent for about a day after use. It isn't strong; however, people I am talking to have commented that I smell like mint, while others say my hair smelled so clean. This is something to keep in mind if you want your perfume to be what people notice first.

The natural ingredients in Scalp Therapy read like a health food store essential oil shelf: Salvia, aloe, yucca, calendula, geranium and melissa to just name a few. I didn't notice any mentha or fragrance in the ingredient list, so I am unsure where the strong mint scent comes from. You can buy Scalp Therapy in several different sizes and formulas at most salons, drug stores and internet sites. I find that my shoulder-length hair requires a quarter size amount to thoroughly cover the hair and still have enough to massage into the scalp. My husband, who has lost most of his hair, loves the way Scalp Therapy cleans the scalp and removes the hair follicular “bumps” that come from male pattern baldness. Another added benefit my hairdresser told me about is that this product makes a wonderful shave cream for your legs. I haven’t gone back to ordinary shave cream since. I love multi-tasking products that really work and this one does!
