PANTINA! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!

Thu, 07/31/2008 - 1:59pm
  • Lips

Champ3377 here We’re all familiar with the old adage that “It’s a man’s world,” but I beg to differ. Think about it: Men have it tough. When they prepare to go out, they shave, shower, and perhaps use shaving balm and/or cologne. I know very few men who actually adhere to a good skin care routine or spend much time with their hair. On goes the clothing, and they’re out the door. I would make a terrible man.

But we ladies get to play, no matter how old we are. I love color and paint pictures when I’m able. Preparation for an event is half of the fun, as I lay out cosmetics and then keep rearranging my choices (twisted, yes, and so why did I just admit that?). How much do I love color? I was one of the many Americans who watched Monica Lewinsky’s most candid, live interview with Barbara Walters in 1996. Most of what she said was ignored by me--her lipstick was a stunning, gentle rose and I sat with a lap full of tubes, trying to see if I had any to match hers. For shame!

I used to be addicted to all Dior and Chanel items, but I simply had to bid Christian and Coco adieu as I could no longer afford my habit (Chanel No. 5 stays, however). As any good Drugstore Deal reviewer would, I browsed the aisles looking for the cutting-edge products new to our city and ran across Pantina’s “Mineral Face Palette.” Interesting. There are three palettes--“Heavenly Bliss” (earth tones), “Center Stage” (lavenders) and “Earth Angel”--(pinks and greys). Each palette offers three complementary eyeshadows, a powder eyeliner, blush, and bronzer. My experience with inexpensive colors has very often been that the powders are coarse and resist application and blending. The hues were intriguing—everything from deep ivy and rich plum to a subtly shimmering gold and a sultry indigo, reminiscent of a shade Philosophy used to produce. The price? $10.00 for all. Well, losing $10.00 would not kill me, and so I bought . .

.

On the inside of the compact lid, Pantina offers suggestions for use and a diagram as well. I followed the instructions meticulously—and I was radiant. I only deviated by using a shadow base. I like L’Oreal’s “De-Crease” and Ultima II’s “Fade Not, Crease Not” (available online). These powders are surprisingly lush, silky, and ever-so-blendable. The colors merge beautifully. I wouldn’t toss the petite applicator which comes with each kit. It’s unique; half is a sponge and the other a fine hair tool useful in working with the “Crystal Black” eyeliner the palettes contain.

Their philosophy is simple: “Create luxury innovative cosmetics at an affordable price.” They’re doing it! This item is sheer joy, sheer beauty, and sheer genius!

(Oh, by the way, Monica Lewinsky’s makeup artist used a lip liner pencil from “Club Monaco” to both define and fill in her entire pout, followed by lipstick in “Bare.” I need a psychiatrist.)

Any other Pantina followers?

REDKEN EXTREME ANTI-SNAP! HUMP DAY HAIR DAY!

Tue, 07/29/2008 - 11:47pm
  • Hair

Katehrm777 here, I have a friend who went had a therapist in high school. No real reason, just her parents thought it would be helpful to talk about the issues that face teenage girls today. I never really understood but looking back, this was perhaps the most brilliant strategy of beauty self-preservation of all time. I, however, was not so lucky. Bad day? Lets go indoor tanning obsessively for 3 weeks straight! The sun makes you happy! And nothing looks better than a great tan! Bad grade on a test? Obviously attempting to bleach my eyebrows to "match" my hair will cure such anguish. Fight with the parents? I bet shaving my upper lip would actually work in reality and would cause my make-up to go on SO much smoother! And of course, everyone's favorite, a break up with a boyfriend. My high school boyfriend and I broke up a lot (who didn't?). There was a lot of hair dying to emerge a new sexy goddess and make him realize what he was missing etc etc that went on in high school. My hair has been red, orange, grey, green, black, white, burgundy, maroon, and yellow due to emotional instability. Really, I think having a therapist instead would have ended up saving me money. Moral of the story: my hair was EXTREMELY damaged. Like won't grow longer because any new growth just snaps right off. Redken Extreme Anti-Snap completely turned my hair around. I have been using it for two years now and have stopped dying my hair (hmmmm around the same time I got with my new boyfriend...probably unrelated) and my hair has stopped snapping, has started growing and continues to get healthier and shinier. Now this product is not an instant-fix, but with time and dedicated use can really improve the health of your hair. This is especially helpful to those who are trying to grow out their hair, as it keeps your hair from splitting and reduces the amount of dead ends that have to be cut off at your hairdressers. And it smells FABULOUS. Here's what Redken has to say about their product:

"Anti-Snap leave-in treatment fortifies the damaged areas of hair and helps reduce breakage. Redken's exclusive Interbond Conditioning System delivers a unique 3D Repair Complex of proteins, ceramide and lipids to help provide internal strength, cuticle reinforcement and protective resurfacing."

So...any other teenage survivors relying on Redken to cure their split end woes?

DESERT ESSENCE TEA TREE OIL TOUCH STICK! GREEN CHI TUESDAYS!

Mon, 07/28/2008 - 10:49pm
  • Face

Sweetassgal here to bring you the best natural and organic products our Mother Earth has to offer us by the way of Green Chi Tuesdays!

Well lovely ladies...it MUST be Trader Joe's week here at Megs! My amazing mother and brave little sister came down for the weekend to celebrate my sisters 21st birthday! Technically she turned 21 on July 7th but the fact that she is a firefighter and was out saving the State of California for 48 days prevented her from celebrating properly. Sorry folks...no drunken bender here. She wanted three things...Sushi, Sephora, and Skin care.

Sephora was as always...a wonder of product cruising perfection. Sister was really in the mood to do it up and we had a BLAST! I must say...we hit the best of everything and she walked out of there with a goody bag FILLED with all the things I covet. Two Faced bronzer and Teddy Bear Kabuki Brush, Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy shadow, potion and BIG FATTY mascara, Smashbox nude lip gloss, Smokey/Rocker Eye kits, Jonathan Hydrating Balm, Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion and the Boscia Willowbark Spot Treatment. Follow that up with a night of fabulous sushi and skin care treatments with the girls and all in all it was a perfect night!

The next day I conned my mother into staying an extra night by dangling a trip to Trader Joe's in front of her...gladly...it worked! We continued our wonderful weekend going up and down the aisles picking out the tastiest treats and best natural products around. Finally, heading down the natural beauty products aisle I was struck by yesterday's yearning for my sister's Boscia Willowbark Spot Treatment and hoped I'd find something similar. Then it appeared before me...Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Blemish Touch Stick...just $7 and begging to be taken home. I've learned a lot recently about the wonders of Tea Tree Oil and thought this convenient little stick might be just the natural and vegan thing for spot treatment on the go! It has a strong Tea Tree Oil and Lavender smell (duh) but it dries quickly and dissipates somewhat...at least enough so it doesn't seem overpowering but I'm used to herbal smells so it wasn't that big a deal to me. I wore it overnight and it did help in reducing some inflammation I had and calmed a pending breakout. It's available at your local Trader Joe's or online at Drugstore.com . Here's what they say about it...

Clear Skin - Clear Conscience

blemishes
insect bites
skin irritations

Desert Essence® Blemish Touch Stick is a special formulation of 11 natural essential oils designed to promote clear, healthy-looking skin. It includes Eco-Harvest Tea Tree Oil, an inherent antiseptic which leaves the skin feeling clean and fresh. The essential oils of Blue Chamomile, Lavender, Calendula, Rosemary, Thyme, Birch and Petitgrain help to soothe and nourish the skin. Desert Essence® Blemish Touch Stick leaves the complexion clear and radiant.
No animal ingredients or testing. No artificial detergents, color or synthetic perfumes.
Vegan.

In checking out reviews online I've found some people complain that its too strong or causes redness. Quick fix here is to take a Qtip, wet it, then run it across the ball to dilute the oil...then apply! I'll be giving this a try for a while and post back under the original review to let you know how its going as well as checking in with my sister on her skin progress!

Has anyone else out there tried the Boscia and the Desert Essence to see how the compare? I'm dying to know!!!! GLAM ON megsmakup gals!

TRADER JOE'S LAVENDER SALT SCRUB! MONDAYS WITH MEG!

Mon, 07/28/2008 - 1:02pm
  • Body

Meg here, Happy Monday (aargh!) With the evolution of man (woman) I believe fully in the "hunting" and "gathering" instinct. I believe with me, it never went away. I of course pertain this to shopping. While beautiful boutiques and the highest end department stores are fun...They take the fun of the hunt away. My primal instincts emerge at outlets, discount stores and mid-range chains with sales. For me, there is truly no "high like a bargain".

When women tell me they hate to sift and sort through piles, I hear them but I don't agree. I have found at the bottom of a hasty, thrown together bin a 95% Off St. John blazer and I get dizzy with euphoria.

Thus my review of Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub. Oh, I wasn't expecting much. It was a last minute throw into my basket. The price was obscenely low and I thought I would use it until I got around to get its pricier counterparts. TJ's has shown me the light and after my hot morning shower I can say.. I'm scrubbing and saving and loving this baby!

I wish I could use an actual picture, I have to use of the same product but a different scent. If you're a lavender fan though, this is definitely for you. An annoying thing on the TJ website is that, because they rotate their products there isn't a catalog of their inventory. This Lavender Salt Scrub seems to be a very popular item for them though. I've seen it in the store everytime I've gone in.

The actual product left my skin incredibly soft, the scrub was really emolient yet exfoliant. The description right on the generously sized tub is "This product is so full of natural ingredients you could eat it!" (I'm not recommending you eat it by the way.) It's chock full of vitamins and oils and it's just fabulous!

So here's my two-cents for the day! Because EVERYONE can afford two-cents! Go grab a tub of this the next time you're in Trader Joe's grabbing your Two Buck Chuck! You'll love it!

m I right or what? Any other TJ Salt Scrub fanatics?

CAT COSMETICS BEACH CHEEKS! GODDESS GRANNY!

Sun, 07/27/2008 - 3:45pm
  • Face

Hello there, ladies! Goddess Granny here who was SO excited to get her first "Senior Discount" at the movies last Friday! (I got "carded" and was giggling like a loon at the ticket window).

I am pasty and proud...that is my mantra most days. I have tried spray on's, smear on's,andcome on's to no avail and with little hope of any color-deposit except some polka-dotted pores and sordid looking streaks.I am simply not meant to be tan in any way and have come to accept this fact.

Although I admire the "Goth Glam" look on many, it simply doesn't suit my lifestyle and I'm not sure my grandkids would think Mimi in black lipliner was that cool? Soooooooo.....I havefound a few "cheats" that allow me to look a bit "glowier" (is that a word? LOL!) withoutthe emotional distress and mess throughout the years but am always in search of perfection!

Oh...and let's NOT forget that any exposure to the sun (and that DOES include tanning beds)"ages"us all terribly and should be avoided at all costs,I'm serious here girls.

I have read about "Cat Cosmetics" here on Meg's and although good-intent has been there to order up a passle of products, I simply hadn't gotten to it yet. When I received a cute lil'compact from Cat Cosmetics to try I was delighted: nice small size, good little mirror, and a sassy gold cat on top. Pretty although rather bright coraly-orange-peach cream inside.Would it be too"Halloween-y" on me?

From Cat:"No matter what the weather, look like you've spent a fresh day in the sun with Beach Cheeks. This crème blush works great on bare skin or over foundation and will give you a sun-kissed glow." Can I just say this woman (Catherine Hickland) is sooooo STINKIN' GORGEOUS it isn't even fair?

I apply my "I can't live without this anymore" Boots #7 foundation on (see my profile) and every lil' yuckie is covered and smooth so I'm ready to dip into this lil' pot...very creamy, very nice consistancy...dab a bit on my cheeks and WOW! Almost no blending needed and I look GREAT! Gives a believeable "glow" to my cheeks so I hit up the bridge of my nose and temples...looking a LOT less pasty and nicely glowing at this point! The product totally made my entire face come alive and the looked completely "natural" (not a big fan of that word,HA!) and polished with a heck of a lot more "sun-kissed" color than usual! Lasted most of the day and even my husband noticed that I looked like I just had great sex.

Can't say enough about this very reasonably priced product: portable and chic and I think it would work well on any/all skintones. It looks much brighter in the compact but I've found that the "brighter blushes" DO work better as a rule. The shade is just fabulous on, it DOES make one look younger and fresher, and envokes that perfect Summer day on the beach in Malibu we all wish we were having right now...

This one from Cat is a winner for me, hands down!

BEACH CHEEKS! BUY IT HERE!

AND she offers free shipping over $75.00,always an incentive for me.ALSO,if you you go to the "Homepage",she is also having a 20% off sale right now as well...SCORE!

STILA AND MARCHESA-SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 11:54am
  • Eyes
  • Face

Hello there, ladies! Katie here, your resident Sephora expert!

I want to share a life ambition of mine with you all: One day, I want to have unlimited amounts of money and wear couture clothing every day, shop at Neiman Marcus and never look at price tags, and pretty much just be the it-woman international. Yes, I prefer Dior over Chanel. Prada over Gucci. Gap over Victoria’s Secret. Wait, no...

Nevertheless, I’ve got a plan! and no I am not going to share THAT with you all lest you try to beat me at my own game. However, I can tell you this: I’ve already got the couture makeup looks down pat! This fall Stila Cosmetics was responsible for the fabulous, and very fresh look on the Marchesa runways (pronounced (mar-case-uh)). Think perfect complexion (is that not ALWAYS in style?), matte but brightened eyes, loads of lashes and stained cheeks. Here’s the step by step (all products mentioned are Stila!)

Firstly, EVERYONE needs the Front Row Look palette available at Sephora (3 shadows and a liner for $40). Perfect complexion with a dab of Natural Finish foundation and the Perfecting Concealer. Then,

Step #1: Apply the lightest shade (bouquet) to entire lid. You want to create an even looking base on the lids—think coloring in layers not sweeping on color.

Step # 2: Apply a mix of bouquet and kamet to the lash line on both top and bottom. Lit it softly melt into a beautiful shade of pinks and grays. Blend well.

Step #3: Apply moonlight with a small brush to highlight inner corner, center of eyelid and under the brow.

Step #4: Take the kajal pencil in smoky quartz and apply 3 dots to lower lash line to crease a soft touch of intensity. Apply brown major lash mascara to the roots of top-lashes only and the ends and lower lashes with LOTS of Black MAJOR MAJOR lash mascara.

Step #5: Finish with stained lips and cheeks with two or three layers of cheeks and lips.

I wore this around for a couple of days this week and it’s amazing that matte shadows can give you such a bright-eyed look—especially when you skip the eyeliner but still abusively pile on black mascara. The great thing is the shadows in this palette work really well on the fairest redheads- to darker complexioned women.

Any other couture make-up fans?!

LUSH'S GO GREEN PERFUME! FRAGRANT FRIDAYS!

Thu, 07/24/2008 - 10:57pm
  • Body

Hello there, ladies! Vexy here, your Friday fragrance fiend, bringing you the best in sexy scents and sciatintillng smells!

I do love floral scents. I love citrus scents. But in the summertime, they seem to be everywhere. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm just as likely to be wearing Sarah Horowitz's Perfect Gardenia or Pucci Vivara as the next girl, but sometimes I feel like breaking out from the crowd of citrus and florals in the summertime, but still stay fresh and light-smelling.

Now, I love LUSH. Their bath bombs and bath melts are to die for and some of their soaps smell downright good enough to eat. But I've never really associated them with "perfume". So when I grabbed something from the front counter that looked like lip balm, I nearly jumped out of my skin when the saleslady went "stop!". She then explained to me that it was a solid perfume and NOT a lip balm. Immediately, my scent-sense was tingling. (But, you say, isn't that what we call the sense of smell, Vexy? No. It's different. It's my sixth perfume sense. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.)

So instead, I lifted the little tin to my nose and I fell immediately in love. The little tub contained the freshest, most herbal scent I've ever tried. It smelled like a fresh day in the woods, after the rain. I like woodsy scents, but most of them are too mossy or smoky for my tastes. This one was juuuust right. (I sound like Goldilocks! Where are my bears?) The top notes of thyme and grapefruit are almost citrusy in their brightness but are far more "green" in their fragrance. It quickly mellows to a wonderful, fresh herbal scent that's not too overpowering and not too "medicinal", as some herbal scents can be. The base note (which the LUSH site says is vetivert) almost calls to mind the earth and soil in a pine forest.

Here's what LUSH has to say about Go Green:

"Refreshingly green solid perfume rejuvenates and revitalizes
Go Green is the scent of freshly squeezed grapefruits and intoxicating neroli oil dancing about a base of smoky vetivert, swirling amongst a herb garden of fennel, thyme and cedar wood. Get it in a small, portable, recyclable metal tin to dab on every time you need a quick blast of citrus-herbal greenness to liven up your day."

I love, love, LOVE this scent when I'm feeling a little more earthy and less girly. I got it in the solid form, which also moisturizes thanks to the cocoa butter and jojoba oil in the suspension, but it comes in a spray form which the saleslady told me was good as a deodorant and a room spray as well. I tried the spray, and I liked it, but it seems in the liquid form the grapefruit is far more prominent and it makes the top notes a bit too strong for my tastes. It lasts far longer than the solid, however. The solid lasts a couple of hours, more or less, depending on your skin chemistry.

But! The little tin is so portable, you can reapply it anywhere. The tin is recyclable, so it's really eco-friendly (as all LUSH products are). Another thing I like about it? The smell is subtle and fresh, so it's almost completely foolproof when it comes to "overdoing" it (a problem I have had in the past!). Another bonus- it's a really unisex scent, so feel free to share it with your guy if he wants to try a little something different! Just be careful you don't mix it up with your lip balm- I've done it once, without thinking, and the taste is icky icky icky.

Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking for a nice summer scent that's not overpowering and that's a nice, exciting break from the summer-time mold of florals and citrus.

What about you ladies? Any Go Green eco-warriors out there?

BROWSER BRUSH ON BROW KIT! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!

Wed, 07/23/2008 - 10:04pm
  • Miscellaneous

Gigi here with a true DD!

Well-groomed, fuller eyebrows are making a comeback (think of a toned-down Brooke Shields here). Last year, an instructor from a modeling school spoke to my female students and I recall her saying: “Teens and very young women often look unnatural when they enhance their brows; as women age, they look unfinished if they don’t.” Many cosmetic companies are offering products including stencils and powder or tinted gels to create the perfect arch. Unfortunately, brows are still often ignored, although they are key to a manicured, sophisticated look. When color is skillfully applied and brows are in place, eyes take on a gorgeous, refined look and act as the ultimate “finishing touch” for your makeup and face, like a frame for a painting. Ignoring brows is like finding and wearing the perfect shoes and grabbing the completely wrong purse as you dash out the door. Unfortunately, many women are clueless as to how to work with their brows. I’m hooked on something that makes it easy: NYC’s “Brow Buster.” NYC sells workable, affordable beauty products for all, and this is one of their most innovative, effective items. The diminutive kit provides brow shades in blonde or brunette, setting wax, and tiny tweezers. What more could you want for around $4.00? I’m especially impressed that wax is included, as I’ve used a bit of damp soap or clear mascara in the past and it is uncomfortable when they dry. I’m all about saving money, so read on for tips for achieving a polished look.

Directions for use? Begin with removing unwanted, straggly hairs and use small scissors to cut necessary ones that are becoming unruly. Over-zealous plucking can be quite risky, as eyebrows do not always grow back, much to the chagrin of women who have eliminated theirs by mistake. Since you may cause permanent removal, work slowly and with care. If you tweeze after a shower or place a warm, moist towel over them beforehand, your pores will open and hair is removed with less effort and “ouch!” The key is to work with your natural brow contour, not against it. One method to discover your own unique brow shape is to hold a pencil vertically against your nose. Begin tweezing superfluous hair outside of the area. Rotate the pencil to the end of your eye—that’s where tweezing and color should end unless you are aiming to copy Cleopatra’s extreme style. I love Revlon's magnifying mirror it's enormously helpful and sold in drugstores (Where else? I live in them!).Your goal is to enhance brows and not design new ones. Though tweezers are included in this kit and come in quite handy, I prefer to rely on those made by Revlon or Tweezerman.

Choose one of the hues NYC offers—blonde or brunette. Makeup artists generally agree that these should be as close to your natural hair color as possible or even a shade or two lighter to “open” the eye area (thus, NYC’S blonde flatters me even though my hair is auburn and would work for those with a deeper hair hue). The tones in this kit are appropriate for the majority of women. I’ve used gel tints, but powder allows for more control and flawless application. Use the small stiff-bristled brush to lightly apply color with gentle, feather-like motions. Overwhelming, dark brows are gaudy and unnatural. The wax keeps your brows tame and in shape during long days and into the night, and NYC’s compact provides a good amount of both products. Brushing brows nearly straight up before using wax imparts a “wide-awake” look, even if you’re dragging after having only two hours of sleep. Isn’t one of the purposes of makeup deception? What others don’t know won’t hurt them . .

Any other NYC Brow Buster Lovers?

J.R. WATKINS HAND AND BODY LOTION IN "LEMON CREAM"! BODY BEAUTIFUL!

Tue, 07/22/2008 - 9:45pm
  • Body

Jeanasinahere Hello Ladies! Have I told you about the time I was floating on a raft in the Dead Sea, my body covered in barnacles bigger than the ones seen on any ship? Well I can’t remember if that really happened to me or not or if it’s just a lovely fantasy but I can relate another story to you concerning my adventures. Today we are going to talk about memories...things that take you back to a gentle time in your life when the smell of lemony girl scout cookies made you feel SO happy inside and out!

I was walking through the downtown mall finding no new shops to explore so I thought “What the heck...I’ll go into the Log Cabin Minnesota Gift shop” where every freakin’ item in the store mentions the fact that it came from Minnesota. At this point in my narrative, I’m sure some of you have already tuned out and are searching frantically for another review on some high end beauty product that the stars on “Gossip Girl” are currently using but there IS MORE to my story than the words “Log Cabin Store.”

So as I browsed through the desirable moose heads displayed prominently throughout the shop and the always lovely fishing lure earrings, I happened upon a shelf with lotions on it! I am always interested in lotions and my number one criteria is..HOW DOES IT SMELL?

Well from a time when red full lips were best achieved by attaching crazed bees to your lips back in 1868, there were products made by J.R. Watkins which unbelievably are still around today and happened to be on a display in this shop. I saw a riveting label on a hand & body lotion that said “Lemon Cream” and of course I had to get my eager snout up and into the bottle immediately without hesitation!

Do you know shop personnel are really not big fans of you taking the caps off of things and then squeezing the contents of the container to see if you can get a good SMELL of the product? Well the store clerk happened to be looking over at me just in time to see me give the bottle a squeeze for smelling purposes, only to have a giant glob of the lotion shoot straight up my nose and into my sinus cavity at that exact moment.

I found a Kleenex and tried to blow the lotion out of my nostril - I’m sure it says on the label “CAUTION: DO NOT INSERT INTO NASAL CAVITIES” - oh well.

Mortified but interested I put the cap back on the lotion bottle and then starting applying my personal ‘test’ quality control applications on my hands, arms, shoulders and after checking to the right and left, I snuck some up on my chest and neck! I just loved the smell! I completely forgot that I was I the middle of “Gone Fishing” headquarters and couldn’t stop smelling my own hands and other body parts...everywhere I had applied the yummy sampling! Don’t put it on your knees though - it really looks like a one woman freak show if you are trying to smell your own knees in a store! They frown on that big time!

I practically ran to the cash register lady with several bottles in my arms and gushed about how great this lotion was! She didn’t really care how happy I was and took my money. When I got back to work my girlfriend said “WOW! You smell amazing! What IS that?” I told her about my 1868 beauty secret. Men apparently love this yummy fragrance too! Be warned you could have a male figure appear suddenly wanting to search your body with his nose trying to discover where this memory stirring scent is coming from on you!

The lotion goes on fast and sinks in and you WILL find yourself smelling your hands as often as possible. It is entirely up to you if you want to bother to explain why you have a new fetish which involves smelling your hands compulsively. That’s a wrap on this one ladies...even if money was no object I’d keep a bottle of this around just to continually bring back memories of warmth and the feeling of how good it once was to eat an entire box of lemon girl count cookies!

Keep your smilers on red alert until we meet again in a couple of weeks! Thanks for tuning in to another episode of Body Beautiful starring Jeanasina!

"This ultra-rich, nourishing lotion contains soothing aloe vera gel, panthenol (vitamin B5) and vitamin E, and moisturizing botanicals Light, non-greasy formula; refreshing lemon fragrance "

The cost is about $7.00 and I love it! Any other fans!

THE HEATED MICROHAIRCAP! GREEN CHI TUESDAYS!

Tue, 07/22/2008 - 10:28am
  • Miscellaneous

Sweetassgalhere to bring you the best natural and organic products our Mother Earth has to offer us by the way of Green Chi Tuesdays!

There comes a time in every girl's life when she looks into her lighted 14x magnification mirror and asks herself...who IS this woman staring back at me?!? Transfixed, you fall into a mysterious, hypnotic daze...completely unable to tear yourself away from the bizarre image before you. Suddenly every pore tells a horrific story, every new facial hair warrants immediate extraction, and even the tiniest blemish, age spot or wrinkle is a call to arms raising the arsenal of products that reside on your battlefield known as the bathroom vanity. This can be a traumatizing experience for even the most seasoned of beauty veterans.

So what to do? For me...nothing gives me a quicker beauty pick me up then an instant change of hair color, and instant (unfortunately) means a trip to the local drug store for a box-o-make me feel better right now-hair color. I know that marketing geniuses and many fashion magazines will tell you that the at-home dye kit has come a long way, but I truly believe the best color and the LEAST amount of DAMAGE is achieved by my stylist. Therefore, every time I succumb to the do it yourself dye job urge (which was this weekends attempt with Feria Cinnamon?...yep...I'm an auburnish red head right now) I find it almost immediately necessary to deep condition and treat to ward off any impending damage I just inflicted on my follicles. Though my choice of conditioning treatment varies, my mechanism for infusing those treatments deep into the hair shaft is constant...the heated Microhaircap available here.

Gentle heat is the best and most natural way to open up your hair follicles, allowing the conditioning treatment to enter the shaft and nourish from within. But how many of us have access to a professional salon hood dryer at 9:30 on a Sunday night when we finally squeeze in the time to take care of ourselves? Not me. There is a well reviewed home version that costs $200 but you are chained to it for a half hour and who has the time to do that? Again, not me. The heated Microhaircap allows you complete freedom to roam your abode, soak in the tub sans electrical wires, or hang out in front of your 14x lighted mirror and obsess more about the size of your pores as your hair drinks in the nourishing, moisturizing treatment. You simply heat the gel packs in the microwave, pile your condition soaked hair on your head and top off with the warm heat radiating cap. I admit, visually this will not be the sexiest half hour of your day...but the results you get, and the freedom you have while achieving them are worth feeling like you should be suiting up for an afternoon of kiddie bounce house races at the company picnic.

Though I can completely recommend this for my fellow parched hair partners, I can also advise it for those who have other hair requirements. Ladies with oily hair need occasional treatments to fight split ends, restore hair strength, and repair daily damage. Clarifying treatments are recommended for anyone who lives and works around city smog and pollution. Scalp solutions are a must for those who suffer from skin conditions that require intense topical therapies. All of these can be supported by the addition of gentle heat to the routine and the Microhaircap is a great way to assist with freedom and convenience!

I'd love to hear what your hair repair solutions are! Let me know if you use the cap (or one similar) and have some advice to share to keep all of our girls GLAMMING ON megsmakeup gals!!!
