Meg here to bring you a brand thats sensitive enough for a baby! If you're an adult with eczema or extremely sensitive skin then check out this line to bring the highest quality of antibacterial essential aromatherapy oils to bring relief to dry and troubled skin. The founder, Lisa, wants everyone to know that she uses this cream as a daily moisturizer, because its non-greasy she can apply her make-up right over it. Her husband uses it as an after shave and her son uses it as a lip balm. I'd say thats pretty multi-functional.
This is the first "baby" product we've ever reviewed on megsmakeup.com but with all its uses it safely falls into an adult green chi!
I know my girlfriends have enough stuff to lug around (besides the actual baby) Greenie has 2 under 2 and I swear she does 14 hours of cardio a day! Not only does she run around her boys all day but its like packing to go overseas before we can even go to the market. She seriously is Miss Toned Arms. Her little meatballs aren't so little. I nearly died trying to pick the smallest one up and that was BEFORE he was strapped in his heavy car seat (that you have to carry). If I ever had children I would not be strong enough to move them anywhere. Ever. I've smoked for many years and the side of the pack tells me this can lead to low birth weight. Since there is no "actual guarantee" on this I will be skipping the procreation. I swear I can carry 15 lbs, TOPS!
With all the bags and instruments a new mom has to carry, why not give her some extra room in that baby bag with a multi-use and all natural product that she too can enjoy. California Baby is not our childhoods drugstore Johnson and Johnson.
Suri Cruise just turned 1 and TomKat threw her a gazillion dollar birthday party. This makes perfect sense because you know she forgot all about it after her nap. TomKat also uses California Baby on Princess Suri. The good news? You don't have to have a gazillion dollars to treat a new mom to this as this organic product runs $13.50
Here's what California Baby says about their Calming Botanical Moisturizer "The whole family will delight in California Baby®'s rich and creamy non-comedogenic moisturizer; it offers deep hydration, absorbs completely, and leaves skin feeling satiny smooth. Use daily for everyday protection and especially when the air is dry and baby's skin needs relief. Our customers have reported excellent results with this cream in their fight against eczema, perioral dermatitis, and other skin sensitivities.
Ladies, please report on if California Baby's Calming Botanical Moisturizer made your skin as smooth as a baby's bottom!
Meg here to talk about a brand that my good friend Severine raves about to me. "Meg, I love Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics! It's so amazing. It makes my skin look so great, I'm never going back!" Now there are two things to know about Severine. One, she never lightly throws her endorsements around, two she was a brilliant aesthetician before her nursing career.
It makes sense an aesthetician would love this line, it takes one to know one! Pauline Youngblood Soli created this line after she spent years working a medical aesthetician. Pauline was in daily contact with people who had severely traumatized skin. Unhappy with the options out there she created Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics.
When your skin looks healthy and fresh you just feel better. I think nothing beats having a "bad skin" day. Sure, "bad hair days" stink too, but there's always the tried and true ponytail or bun lifesaver.
I'm really curious to see what you ladies think about this line since I've heard such ringing endorsements! Here's what Youngblood Cosmetics says about their Natural Loose Mineral Foundation " This incredibly unique silky powder is a foundation, concealer and powder all in one! It offers exceptional, high performance coverage, is easy to use and is non-comedogenic. The mineral foundation glides on all skin types beautifully to give natural, healthy coverage and a translucent glow. Available in our sleek, exclusively designed container with controlled distribution. With a tap of a finger, no more mess, no more waste ...it is the hottest trend in makeup on the market today!"
Ladies please comment if Youngblood left your skin looking fabulous!
Our very own Greek Goddess Eleni to bring you Greeks bearing gifts! Great Gifts! The gift of beauty with Elemis!
The first time I came across Elemis was at Holmes Place Health Club in Athens. I took a shower after my workout and it literally took me more than an hour to make myself get out of it. The reason was that the shower gel provided was possibly the best I’ve ever tried.
With tears of joy for my new discovery, I asked at the reception what that magical tingly gel was, and they said it was the “Elemis sharp shower”, with peppermint, wild marjoram and thyme. Unfortunately, its $37 price tag was too much for my budget back then, so I kept taking showers at the gym. I’ve never worked out more in my life!
Since then, the name Elemis has always meant top spa quality to me.
Recently, the wonderful Meg Young sent us over at megsmakeup.com a few Elemis products to try and being the only one that is struggling with a cellulite problem since the tender age of 9, I got the Body Sculpting Lipo-Refining Serum along with the Body Sculpting firming Cream. Anti-cellulite and body firming products are possibly the only products I’ve tried all cosmetic brands at. When I was 12 I was using Vichy, and it worked ok. At 14 I switched to Roc and Biotherm that worked a bit better for me. At 18 I tried the divine Dior Bikini and for ten years in a row I haven’t managed to find anything better. I was switching it with Clarins that smelled great, a few times with Lancome that was a bit cheaper and once with Yves Saint Laurent when they first came out with an anti-cellulite cream. Total disappointment. It was only ten years later that I actually used a product that could compete with Dior Bikini, and that product was Chanel’s Precision Body Excellence line.
So there I was, having Elemis Body Sculpting Cream and Serum in my hands, ready to take the big step and quit the Chanel treatment for a month. I did it. I spent 4 weeks of religious Elemis use. Morning and evening applications with massage, regular exfoliating, balanced diet, lots of water.First I put on the Body Sculpting Lipo-Refining Serum, a product that is:“designed to penetrate deep into the dermis to slow down the skin cell's progression from healthy to abnormal in a dual action. The key active ingredient, Peru Liana, helps to inhibit fat storage by preventing healthy skin cells (Pre-Adipocytes) from filling with Triglycerides (a build-up of fatty acids), resulting in undesirable fatty cells (Adipocytes). The Lipo-Refining trio of marine and plant extracts, Laminaria Digitata, Theophylline and Cecropia Extract, specifically help to break down fatty deposits by promoting Lipolysis - the process of burning off Triglycerides - which in turn reduces the size and number of Adipocyte cells.”
Followed by the Body Sculpting Firming Cream , a cream that:“flushes away toxins and helps support the body's natural drainage, enhancing micro-circulation to release trapped fats and prevent new fatty cells from forming. Targeting cellulite with three key actions, Body Sculpting Firming Cream progressively smooths and firms the skin. Peru Liana, Sea Fennel and Brown Algae Scoparia assist in inhibiting fat storage while Bitter Orange Petal helps to detoxify the skin and increase lymphatic circulation. A unique complex of Organic Silicium and mineral rich Spring Sea Water improves the cohesion between dermis and epidermis to firm and tone the skin.”
The results were AMAZING. I was a bit scared that this two cream system wouldn’t work and then I would have to write bad things about Elemis. Cause believe me, I would have. There is nothing worse than being told that an anti-cellulite treatment works when it doesn’t. I mean, it’s not even something subjective. Day 1 you have a dimple, day 31 you don’t. As simple and clear as that. And that’s what the Elemis Body Sculpting Firming Cream and Lipo-Refining Serum did for me.
Bikini season’s almost here, go get your Elemis girls!
Ladies please rate your experience and what Elemis product you chose!

Spring has friggin finally sprung!!! It’s actually warm here in NJ. And my bones are not chilled to the, well, bone any more! Along with the departure of old man winter’s chilly temps, my skin has ceased to look like the Geiko Gecko too. I can put away the “Big Guns” of body moisturizer and switch to the lighter summery ones.
This winter my saving grace was Pooka Body Butter. This stuff is so packed with moisture that a tiny dab of it made my hands look like I just walked out of the manicurist. But it’s so heavy that I didn’t even finish the whole 4oz tin over the course of the entire winter. And trust me, when I took this stuff out and applied it, any chick or guy in my vicinity wanted to use some as well! Happily, with the arrival of warm weather Pooka Body Butter must be retired.
Fortunately, the luck of the Irish smiled down upon me and in my last package from Meg I received Essence Of Beauty’s Citrus Coconut Hand Cream. This stuff is THE PERFECT summer hand cream. It leaves my hands moisturized, but I feel like I can touch things right after applying it! It makes my hands feel velvety soft without an ounce of greasiness! And the smell! Hello Tropical Island!! According to the company, coconut and citrus are “uplifting” scents, so it actually helps to relieve tension as well as dryness. It has Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, and Antioxidant Vitamin C & E.
I was already a fan of Essence of Beauty’s shower gel in Grapefruit, not I can add another one of their products to my “yes” list. Let me know if there are any other products from their line that I should check out!
Essence of Beauty have any of you other ladies running to CVS?
Meg here with a great new line to tell you about..Blow Styling Products! I was lucky enough to receive the entire line and boy oh boy is it great! There is nothing I love more then a smart entrepreneur unless it is a smart woman entrepreneur. You see, ideas really are a dime a dozen. Oh, I use to have many brilliant and wonderful ideas. My nickname used to be "Kramer" The devils in the details! The follow through is essential! So many times I had thought "EUREKA!" just to wait years for time to go by and kick myself as someone else became rich! There is little recourse in "darn, I thought of that!"
Here's what I think one of the best things about Blow Styling Products are..The beginning of the "Blow Bar", the best ideas are when they are created out of a need that women could actually use. Instead of the hhmming and hawwing these 3 bestfriends got together in NYC and did something about it. They created Blow salon in the meatpacking district. A place where women could gather to feel fab and glam and get fast and affordable mani-pedi's, makeup application and their now famous, signature blow-outs at the "blow bar". Their dream was so right on target with the feeling of other New York women they've now added another Blow to the Upper East Side. Tr'es Chic!
A trip down my ideas..Dog DNA I was watching Oprah a few years back and she had on scientists that has a company that would send in a swab of your cheek to their DNA lab and spit out exactly who your ancestors were and from what village from like a million years or something ago. I look in the mirror-I'm pale. I look at my diningroom table, there's a Guiness open, my last names O'Brien. My guess is I come from potato harvesters that liked to imbibe. That's not worht $300. What is? I can't tell you how many hours of my life I have spent debating what dog breeds must have mated to create Bear and Penny. Hours upon hours. That is why I thought, forget humans. We need Dog DNA for our mutts! Lo and behold, listening to NPR last week, someone else thought that but is just now making millions.
The Talking Vibrator Want to eradicate men? Then look no further! For $19.95 your talking vibrator will say "If you lost more weight you'd be disgusting" and "I love a more mature woman,""You deserve that bag!""If they don't want you then they're jealous or gay""God, how am I the luckiest man alive?" I even have the commercial worked out, a well dressed woman walks into a swank restaurant, pulls into her purse, taps the maitre'd, looks straight into the camera and says "Table for two" Then winks!!
Epstein Bar way before NYC came out with their BED Lounge I thought about Epstein Bar. Who says disease can't have its perks? I hate getting ready on a Friday night. The shower, the hair the makeup the outfit. Why, if you couldn't just jump into your Nick and Nora's couldn't you go relax at everybody's favorite watering hole Epstein Bar? As far as I'm concerned, the only thing Hefner ever got right was living in his robe.
megsmakeup.com Need I say more??
Alright, obviously I should be part of some government think tank. I won't bore you with more of my crackpot...Um..Brilliance!
Blow Styling Products really are fantastic, they're great for anyone that does a lot of heat styling, flat ironing, curlers or relaxers. They really have thought it through. From the time you shampoo up to the end with their "climate neutralizer" you're very well taken care of. The price is decent too as this has been lasting me quite a long time. I'm also a sucker for cool packaging and I really dig grabbing for these in the morning. I mean, I'm even motivated to use them showering on a Friday night at 8pm (Epstein Bar~where are you?)
Ladies, please let me know if you've tried Blow, I'd love to write more but I just had this idea....
Meg here~ very grateful to all of you awesome and amazing and inspiring women that left me such great comments and wonderful ideas! Kate, I am visiting a horticulturist and will be learning to make plants very soon! :) Did you ever hear the Dorothy Parker quote "You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think." Love that Dorothy!
It is very fitting to be speaking plants today since today is Green Products Day and one of our best and longest supporters over here is the amazing Juice Beauty! Karen Behnke is their "head juicer" and it's easy to see how this company has been so successful with Miss Behnke at the helm! I have the absolute funniest email exchanges with her. She's in SanFran learning about natural elements and healthy living-I'm in LA waiting for the FDA to approve plastic to shoot in my wrinkles.
As cynical as I was to this "organic stuff" Karen has shown me the light! There really has not been one Juice Beauty product that hasn't knocked my synthetic socks off!
Karen was kind enough to send us out ample trial sizes of Green Apple SPF 20 Antioxidant Body Moisturizer. Here's what its formulated to do "Think of this heavy duty hydrator as a vitamin for your skin. This creamy lotion combines chemical-free SPF 20 sun protection with a blend of age-defying peptides, DMAE, alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, and a potent fruit acid complex to brighten, smooth fine lines, and protect, for optimum age-defying benefits from head to toe."
Listen, you're going to forget to put on your suncreen when you start to wear your tank tops and shorts and short sleeve t's. You know you are. Why? Well, because sunscreen is generally medicinal smelling and white and you have to rub and rub and its just plain yucky. Why not kill 2 birds with one stone (Karen, that was said as a matter of speech, we are cruelty free here). This stuff dries instantly, it moisturizes, it's packed with natural goodness AND it'll protect you from harmful rays. You know, that whole Global Warming thing.
I do believe Juice Beauty has another "win" with their Green Apple Antioxidant Body Moisturizer! How 'bout them apples?
Ladies, please review your thoughts if this apple a day is keeping the Dr. Away (Not Karen's~she's married to one!)
Meg here back from the computer hospital. My laptop flatlined on me last night and I just got it fixed. The good news is I have a brand new one coming to me Thursday so all is well!
I guess its spring, or the move, or the fact that I have to go through all of my stuff and decide what I really want and need. What I am just somehow emotionally tied to that I probablly wouldn't miss if I just let it go. My brains been jumping around a bit and I keep replaying choices I've made in my life and then I think of this story. A woman was unhappy in the career she had for the last 20 years so she came home and announced to her husband "I'm going to become a lawyer! Her husband just shook his head and rolled his eyes and said "You're going to be 50 years old before you can even start to practice law.. The woman just looked at him and said "I'm going to be 50 years old anyway. Might as well be 50 years old and start my new career."
Duh, right? I mean that logic is so easy to understand and yet so hard for us to apply. I'm not looking to be an attorney but I am looking to follow through on opportunities that have presented themselves to me that I just let fall by the wayside. I guess I can't fail if I don't try, I never use to feel that way but I think I have been a bit in the dumps the last year or so and developed an Eeyore complex. I am sending Eeyore to the glue factory and am really going to concentrate on putting myself out there as much as possible. I can't succeed if I don't try is my new mantra!
If you only look as good as you feel then I have not been living up to the ideal beauty regimen!
I'm looking for a little guidance, you ladies always know whats best to put on our faces so I'm hoping you will let me know what you're secret is for a little extra spring in your step.
Should I buy an Ipod and program it with upbeat songs? Should I tape YOU ARE FABULOUS! to my mirror? What are little tricks you have (I know you have them) that help you keep on plugging? I'll be back with our normal order of business tommorrow but I was hoping you ladies had some advice on how to cultivate better energy! Love you and thank-you! Meg
Every Saturday Kate2004rock brings you the best of Sephora as only an insider can!
I didn't know you could get senioritis in college. It was going so well...coming up to the last three weeks of my senior year and my effort was still going strong. And then it happened, I got accepted to grad school (Texas Tech MBA '10, baby!) and now I just don't care. This is problematic, you see, since my Senior Thesis, which I've been working on since August, is due on Monday. It is finished in that its complete. It is not finished in that I still have about ten pages of editor's corrections to make and a some minorly major tweaks to make. Woe is me. So, as a reward for spending a good two afternoons working on in Tuesday and Wednesday, I let myself pick up the April InStyle featuring their 13th annua, Best Beauty Buys. I'm sure that none of you have any doubt that it's loaded with Sephora-available products! I'm going to share my opinions on some of the winners that jumped out at me - I want to hear some discussion, ladies!
NARS made the Best Lipstick in three color categories: Peaches, Reds, and Nudes. The Red was Jungle Red, which I find to be a little bit blue and I would suggest Heat Wave as an alternative to those needing warm undertones. I also LOVE Honolulu Honey for the Nude. Its really great under a peachy gloss for a fresh look. NARS Belle du Jour was also in the Nude category which its a little bit more yellow than Honolulu Honey but it makes a great primer for a bright gloss.
Cult Favorite: Smashbox Photo Finish snagged best primer. I wish I had seen what the other nominees were for primer. I realize that the Smashbox is the original. But I've experimented with primers in the past year and, while it is good, there are some other primers (Laura Mercier, Laura Gellar) that have some ultra-redeeming qualities. What do y'all think?
Best Powder: Laura Mercier Loose Transluscent Powder - Ha! I couldn't agree more! Besides that a big round jar of loose powder isnt really purse friendly (it does come pressed in a compact also). Mineral Veil eat your heart out! The LM powder is milled probably about 5 times finer than Mineral Veil and so I think it sets makeup much better, rather than adding weight and "cake." However, there's a new transluscent from the Balm that Meg's will be reviewing soon that gives Laura a run for her money!
Best Bronzer: I love when the underdogs win some! Guerlain Terracotta Light is what I have at on my face, ready for a night on the town, at this very moment! "It's varying shades of bronze, gold, pink, and copper ad dimension to the color." I think it's genius! I suppose you could go physician's formula for a DD version of this masterpiece!
I'd like to hear your thoughts on their pick for best Lip Balm too. Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Therapy w/SPF 15? That's surprising! What about Caudalie? What about Rosebud Salve? The quality isn't there on this one...or is it?
Meg here with quite a conundrum. I have Shisheido marked as a "Fab Friday" item. I thought from the packaging and quality and overall reputation of the company that everything was going to be very pricey. Well, while it certainly is not a DD, I'm looking through the press releases on the items Jenia so graciously sent us to try out and I can't find anything over $100. In fact everything seems to run around $20-$60 except for the NutriPerfect Day Cream Spf 15 and Night Cream at $92. I guess I always just assumed Shisheido was created for really deep pockets and you know what they say about assuming.
Shisheido sent us ladies out 6 different items to test. I'm funny at our mailings, you would think I'd say "I'm grabbing this! And go pick first. I never do. It's so strange. It's one of the things I'm going to be working on. I'm a strong, vocal person but I have a deep fear of seeming rude or greedy. I also apologize to furniture when I bump into it and leave atleast a dollar tip at Starbucks for my $1.75 coffee. On the flip side, if I have one cigg left in my pack or there's only enough champagne for one last glass-go for it. I can promise that will be the last thing you ever go for though. Addiction is stronger then affliction.
Anywhoo, all the products were laid out and all the ladies made a play for them until there was one lone lipstick left. It was tre's uber Barbie pink. A frightening pink that screamed "Baby Jane". Back to the don't judge a book by its cover, I said I'd test it and opened it right there. It's a great spring color. The color is Rouge Iris from their shimmering lipstick line. It went on suble like a gloss with golden, metallic shimmers. It also is packed with oils that feel so smooth on your lips. The girls should have read the press release before they chose because this lipstick is "A new shimmering lipstick innovation, combining the glossy brilliance of lip gloss with the staying power of lipstick".
I can hear Desertdoll kicking herself from here (about a 2 1/2 car ride away.)
If everything the other ladies chose performed as well as my new shimmering lipstick then I think Shiseido is a beautiful brand with an upscale, yet realistic price tag. My shimmering lipstick retails for $22.00
Thank-you for reminding me that the "If you have to ask then you can't afford it". mantra is not always true.
Ladies please post what Shisheido item you tested and how it fared? Other Shisheido fans let us now what else we need!!
Every Thursday Rachael Robbins brings you the best of her DD's
This week I’m back on the Double D Train! Bargains or Bust!! Seriously, there is no better high for me then finding a good bargain! At the first sign of spring I feel the need to throw out all my winter clothes so I never have to see them again. I don’t actually go thru with this, but I want to. I’m so sick of looking at those turtle necks that I lived in all season, and the coats..... YUCK!! Spring makes me want to revamp everything. I guess that whole “spring cleaning” thing is actually a real affliction. I love re-organizing my closets, getting rid of make-up I don’t use, and buying new spring clothes and summer shoes!
I also got pretty sick of looking at my French manicure. I have permanent French. Always. I never get anything different. My nails are too long to wear a dark color for fear of looking “Elvira-ish” . So I headed to Duane Reade for inspiration. When I got to the nail polish aisle I notices a new product from OPI. OPI and Essie are my favorite nail polish brands, so I was willing to give this new product a shot! It is Nic’s Sticks by OPI and they are nail polish pens! You just click the color into the brush and paint! The color dried in one minute. No really, it really really does! I used “Feeling Girly” over my French manicure and it looked just like Essie’s Ballet Slippers, but dries faster! At first it looked like it was going to be streaky, but then it dried evenly and perfect! There are 24 colors. I’m just not too sure about the darker colors; the brush didn’t seem to be built for preciseness. Maybe someone can try it out and let us know what you think.
But wait! This miracle product gets even better! OPI is a totally green company! Their polishes don’t contain any formaldehyde, DBP, or Toluene. Their packaging is recyclable and they don’t test on animals!
So grab a pen, click away, and toss it right in your purse for emergency touch ups without the threat of a leak ruining your new spring bag!
Any other Nic Stick fans? Found at your local drugstore
