L'OREAL ELNETT HAIRSPRAY! NOW AVAILABLE IN THE USA!
Goddess Granny here on this Superbowl Sunday: I "like" football but have no emotional connection to either team this year so may the best one win and hope it's a helluva' game! Most girls I know are either out shopping, at Zumba class, or simply finding some other out of the house way to amuse themselves while our men-folk consume mass quantities of beer, chicken wings and pizza while burping loudly and swearing/throwing cans at the TV! I also know a few women (waves to a couple of her sisters...) who will be sitting right there with and more power to 'ya'! :)
I myself am obsessing about my hair a but this week: it's been raining hard for a few days and the heavy dew-point combined with solid doses of workout sweat is leaving me either in braids with headbands and/or ponytails with caps a LOT more than is reasonable! I need to start spending a few more minutes and a bit more effort in trying to achieve some of those lofty waves and styles full of smooth-volume I'm seeing on the glossy pages. Thank God I have a great colorist but seriously, my long, straight and usually clipped up or disguised hair needs some taming and styling and I may have found something rather cool to help me on my way!
Trying hard to dust off those remaining brain cells that have to do with my hair: I think the first time I ever went to a "real beauty parlor" as they were called when dinosaurs roamed the earth, aka when I was about 15, was for a "do" because a guy a couple of years older than I had asked me to a "Junior Prom" and my Mom was excited for me. The "look" in those days for a formal-event such as this was truly more that of a glam-girl/Cinderella and nothing like what shocks me these days as "Prom attire..." I'm so not a prude but when I see 14 yr. olds wearing "strings and platforms" along with spray-on tans, 2" nails and hair extensions to go shimmy for 3 hours at the local high school gym, it sorta' makes me sad because they are trying so hard to be all grown up SO fast instead of just being pretty for the night and enjoying the event. Things are very different now, this I know.
But, we did want to be "pretty" even back then and I do remember when the stylist covered my face with a linen hanky (remember those? LOL!) and told me not to breathe as she saturated my bouffant-updo with a hairspray that can only be defined as "stinky!" NOTHING could have caused THAT hairdo to come undone and I do remember struggling to brush out the teasing and popping out hairpins 2 days later in the girl's room at school: you always tried to preserve your hairdo from Sat-Mon so everyone in school would KNOW you had been to the Prom, HAHAHA!
Fast-forward a bunch of years: I did some modeling "in the day" as well and because I was tall and built, usually got stuck in some stiff, cheapass, satin Bridal gown from hell because I "could carry the look..." A quick updo by the on set stylist would also be required because after all, it was about the lines of the dress and not my hair? Many bobby pins and a TON of hairspray later, I would walk the show looking like I wanted to be married in that dress! The difference WAS that the hairspray of "choice" back then was encased in a sleek golden canister, didn't smell like hell, and actually left my hair feeling soft and "nice" when the pins were pulled out and I brushed away the updo: it was "Elnett Hairspray" 99% of the time and honestly back then, stylists had to have a European-connection or fly across the pond to bring back the coveted spray of the Styling Divas! It was a product that was whispered about by most clients in salons and if you were gifted a 1/2 empty canister on your way out the door of a salon by your hairdresser (as they were called...) you had indeed arrived! I believe it defined the term "cult following" for many for years!
Created by L'Oreal in France, the rather-retro canister truly does hold a magical mist: this hairspray has a most "unique" scent that you will probably either love or hate (and is now available in unscented as well!) that poufs out in a fine micro-infused mist: lasts forever, holds like nothing else, and yet somehow leaves one's hair shining and soft! You might well have visions of your Grandma at her vanity or some fav glama' gal who inspires your look when you spray this on. It somehow manages to evoke that which is legend in terms of a woman's "beauty boudoir!" It's been touted as "the best EVER" by many in the know and countless celebs and beauties rely on it to tame their wayward tresses. The GOOD news is that we here in the USA no longer have to sell our soul to a TSA agent in order to have our own luscious canister, it's finally available widely here as well and I for one and thrilled!
For some reason, this product delights me: not the priciest hair product I've ever tried but somehow, it's the one that makes me feel "special" when I use it and boy does it work! I can't tell you enough how it isn't sticky, doesn't build up and leaves your hair somehow under control yet looking fresh and soft: there IS a reason some things are legend and "Elnett" for me is well-deserving of it's star of fame!
SO many hair products out there I know but when you truly want something that works and that might even make you feel a bit more like you did getting ready for that first ever big "event", do yourself a favor and try out a canister and see how it works for you? I won't be without it ever again and it's even available in a travel size as well now! Great product and surely one that has stood the test of time!
Buy it here at Target and I've also seen it recently at Ulta!
Do you have a "hard to get" beauty product you love?
Do you think that sometimes it's the fact we that we CAN'T get something that makes it more covet-worthy?

i have loreal hairspray too! (:love it. great article!
My MomMom has been searching for wonderful hairspray! Will have to get to Target as soon as I dig out from the snow here! :)
i've heard about this product!! i used to work at a hair salon and one of the stylists used to tell stories about Elnett! i thought they were just urban legends. Heading to ULTA tomorrow to snag me a can before its sold out!
I recieved the trial sized can of this when I bought L'Oreal EverPure shampoo last week. This stuff is seriously amazing! It is not sticky at all and lasts forever! Hands down one of the best hair products I have ever used (and I hate hairspray, by the way!)
ooh wow never heard of this product but will definitely check it out!!
I don't use hairspray much, probably by myself a new can every 5 years or so. Seriously, I really hardly use it. I would love to at least try this stuff though, curious as to what it smells like!

L'oreal is my go-to for hair products, but unfortunately they're sponsoring the Michael Vick project. Sigh. I wrote an angry email telling them I would be spending my money on Revlon or Garnier now.
ewww seriously? i just bought their last boosting serum. (sigh)

yes sad but true, because I love Excellence hair color. I'll just have to find something else unless and until they apologize.
Thats really disappointing. and I meant to put LASH boosting serum. I won't be buying anymore of their products either. Are any other companies connected to L'oreal that are involved in this?

Oh! Best hair color ever is in beauty supply stores. It's Satin. http://www.developlus.com/products/satincolor/index.htmlYou do have to mix it with developer but it's easy and the stuff lasts wonderfully and the colors are great. I used to use their reds and they'd last a really long time. That or Matrix Prizms, which are very very nice as well.

Tan is Love
I've found soo many different products after being on the floor in the salon. There's so many types of hairsprays with different holds, alot of them smell bad though. I'd love to find one with a good smell to it. I do adore hold me tight by paul mitchell.. it's my favorite hairspray by far. It's hard to get ahold of some of my favorite products because of the price, so it's awesome to find something you like just as much but for less. && I do love the design on this products bottle.

I'm in the same hair scenario as you, long, thin, and full of rain/snow/workout sweat. I just got a volumizing cream sample from Sephora and along with some good hairspray, hopefully my hair will be more cooperative.
I have been looking all over creation for this hair spray, unfortunately my local Target does NOT sell this...I've been looking for close to a year, so, I might as well resign myself to the fact that I'm going to have order it on line!! Yes it is legend!! And I'm looking forward to using it someday soon!
I have never tried this but i think i saw it in CVS or somewhere. It sounds really good and i would like to try it. I love the smell of the scrunch spray from aussie. it's my fave!!!
Ooh, this looks like something I will have to try. Hopefully the fact that it's now readily available in the states means little old Australia shouldn't be too far behind.. I hope! Great review! :D <3
I saw this at Ulta the last time I went and you have no idea how EXCITED I was to see that little display! I was literally jumping up and down for joy! I heard so many wonderful things about it and finally I will be able to get curls that won't die after half an hour. =)
I had never heard of this brand until I read an article about it a few months ago in a magazine..they were totally gushing over it so I had to give it a try. Luckily the Target that I went to had a travel size, which I would recommend trying first before buying the full size bottle since it was around $15-17, I think. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, but I think I was expecting a life changing product based on the glowing reviews. I think the scent will be way too strong for some - I'm not sure how to describe it. It doesn't really smell like anything I've ever smelled before. It did do a great job of keeping my hair in place when I curled it for a wedding that I went to recently, and that does say something because my hair usually falls flat and has to be retouched a lot when I curl it. However, for me the true test of hairspray is how well it holds up my hair when I cut it super short and spike it in the back. The only one that I could use for that was got2B glued spiking hair spray, which is usually no more than $7.00. I think I want this to do more for $15-$17.
Not sure I've ever heard of this but I may give it a go if I see it around. I currently use Cedel hairspray which is an Aussie brand and I think has similar legendary status here. It has a unique smell and is really good - doesn't go sticky and is easy to brush out. Holds well too.

i've been falling in love with hair products lately, hair spray, shampoo, hair clips, hair bands.. etc etc.. my hair is dead straight and pretty much falls in my face all the time if i don't click it back. i haven't tried the loreal hair spray yet *emphasis on the yet..* but i've been looking for something that is unscented!!! as much as i love nice smelling stuff I don't think hair spray should be strongly scented i always choke on it and get it in my eyes lol it burns!
My new Ebay Store: cossiepieMy blog: http://lazyscorner.blogspot.com/
I remember Elnett from when I was a kid, I am surprised it was available here in NZ when it wasn't in the states. I don't really wear hairspray these days, but you have brought back some memories :)
Lily - Mineral makeup Junkie!!!
I haven't used hair spray or much products for a long time. I use shampoo, conditioner then my leave in Marco P conditioner to get the tangles out. I have a spritz under the sink just in case. I like spritz better then spray. OMG remember Aqua Net! Thank you for the 411 and memories, GG, you ROCK!
my mom just bought this hairspray and has raved about it =0 now i know she really isnt crazy lol
I had absolutely no idea that elnett wasnt sold in america! I Love elnett- I used to use it (but dont often need hair spray) and now i have just a cheap supermarket brand one and its horrible! it stinks it isnt a fine mist and it makes my har go rock hard (even with just a tiny amount i get horrible crispy hair) I am definately going back to elnett! great artixle by the way!
I use Elnett every now and then, I think it is one of the better hairsprays you can get in supermarkets and similar "normal" stores over here. I actually used it this morning too. It's nice because it doesn't make my hair hard or sticky, it doesn't offer a very strong hold though. At least in my opinion. But for everyday use I like it lots.
I didn't realise this hadn't been available in the US in the past. I agree that we seem to want products more just because we can't get them, or at least I do!

This is an awesome product!!! Finally in the US! You'll love it for the sexy hairdos! My hard to get product is Benefit Maybe Baby fragrance!
I don't really use hair products at the moment, but I think I'll be seeing if I can grab myself one of these.
I've never, ever used hairspray in all my life except when a hairdresser has put some in as a finishing touch. Though, with you raving so, perhaps it is one thing I should keep for nights out. :) Thanks for a glowing review.
My roommate has this! haha. I haven't used hairspray since my dance recital days when I was like...11. Do NOT like crunchy hair.
http://ediblelove.wordpress.com/
I may give this a try.
i like the idea of something highly-coveted that really works but in the practical sense, i tend to look for a good, widely available dupe.

Been looking for this for the past year...Finally found it at Harmon Drugs, but was sadly disappointed :-(I was expecting some unbelievably fantastic spray...but for me it was just OK. It has a very strong scent, I'm still a fan of Nioxin -- great voluminizing and hold!
I don't use hairspray. but I've heard of Elnett, which is highly recommended as THE hairspray for a strong hold yet natural looking style. I'm surprised it wasn't available in US until now. My 'hard to get' product that I craved is anything UD but it's no longer hard to get now that it's available in my country. :D Oh... & Japanese drugstore makeup brands that are available only in Japan... hmm.. they still remain hard to get...
Granny, that is some SCARY 'do' in that photo! My hard-to-find products? Laugh everyone - I really like Bourjois, which is a drugstore brand in most of Europe and absolutely unattainable here. I've seen it at Sephora in America, but - I don't live in America, and the prices are outrageous.
Still, I'm glad you can finally get your beehive hairspray :D
i love l'oreal hairspray remember me the scent of my grandma when i was a child ..memory ...
Personally i dont use hairspray and if i do, i only need light stuff to tame my hair a little when its down but my mum uses this stuff and loves it! almost as much as she likes aveda hairspray ^-^
Too bad. I just bought some fructis bamboo hold stuff which is pretty disappointing. I love hearing about these kind of cult products- so interesting. I do agree about longing for products that are hard to get- which is pretty much everything since I live in the middle-of-nowhere-south. seeingstars, bourjois is great! I love their line too- not laughing material at all. They have the greatest nail stuff- i love their white nail pencil sooo much. p.s. godess granny, i know i am young, but i know just how you feel about today's youth. the nails, the extensions, the push-up bras, the mystic tans- i don't get it!
I'm a hair spray scrunching curly girl and Elnett sounds awesome! I'd love for my curls to hold and be soft! I will be searching for this when I go to town. Thanks for the great review, GG!
Sorry guys but I bought the Elnett weeks ago at Target and it was $14. I have found nothing special about it other than the fine mist. Doesn't do anything different for my hair.Garnier, at much less the cost, has a anti-humidity hairspray that I have found to have the same results. Each to their own.
Too bad I can not use hairspray. I just can not have any of the chemicals in the air around me because of the damage to my lungs. I have tried a few of those gel type products, but since my hair is healthy, wavy and hangs perfectly, I leave it all natural.
Beste Hilsin
This is absolutely my FAVORITE hairspray!!! It was in Target first. I've seen it in Rite-Aid drug stores, too. They even sell little travel cans! It truely is brushable. When I use some hairsprays, my hair falls flat and looks sticky. Not with Elnett! What fab stuff! I would like to get my hands on a can of the European formula! Theirs and the one sold in the US are different, and I hear that the European one is still a little better, but I don't know more details.
I have never heard of this. I never even knew they had hairspray! I always use hairspray for dance shows, and a have this gift card for Target. Maybe I can check this out. Hmm. I don't know any "hard to get" beauty products I like.

Been using Elnett for about a year now. I get it at Target, but I also saw it at CVS. I have spent the better part of my life trying to find the perfect hairspray. If I am going to be overcome by fumes, then the stuff better be worth the scared lungs. And it IS!!! We read about Elnett for years always with the disclaimer that we can't get it in the states. Well, you can take your haughty disclaimer and stick it under the 27 inches of snow we currently have in Maryland. True story: on Saturday night we had a snow plow pick us up because we had been without power for almost 24 hours and it was colder in the living room than in the refrigerator. In the dark I threw together an overnight bag for a couple of days. I forgot my toothbrush, my cell phone and shoes. I had the Elnett. The big one, not the travel size.
Yes, I think that when something is unavailable, hard to get, it makes it more desirable. This is normal after all, I think. It is human nature! As for me, I have no taste disproportionate. I do according to my means. The latest perfume that I wanted, I got it as a gift from my darling, it was "Aqua Allegoria" by Guerlain (mandarine-basilic).Hairspray Elnett is for me, the best! I love it!
I bought a purse size can after reading an article about it in Vogue several years ago. I wasn't blown away, but I think I'll give it another go.

Oooh thanks!!! Useful for stage =) Anything but Aquanet, please!
Looks like it works really good!
I've never heard of this but I would like to know how it smells lol. I'm currently using got2b Styl-Tini After Hours Laminating Shine Hairspray I love the package and it smells good. Although it doesn't really "laminate" like it says but whatever.
