ELMER'S GLUE? PORE EXTRACTION TIPS? MEGKEN IS AT IT AGAIN...
Megken here- I had a very manly weekend. I went with my father to the gun show. Gun shows attendance is about 95% men. I noticed the women there are not the core readers of this site, none used make-up, not even lip-gloss!
I was on a quest to find something, anything that would a relevant product to review for megsmakeup.com. I didn't have any luck with my search. The non-gun items were all kinds of beef jerky and flashlights. Somewhere on the two floors of the convention center I was hoping for something, a hand cream, a shampoo, a razor-I came up empty though.
I stopped off at the supermarket to find something that would save my Manly Monday post. Since we are still waiting on the testers to receive next week's great products, I figured that I would try something I have only heard about. Elmer's Glue to remove black-heads. I have tried the biore strips before and thought they were fun and painless. I am sure they have already been reviewed. I had to try the child's white craft paste for myself. I was scrambling-Meg doesn't like it if I don't turn my assignment in on time! My Uncle Lewis once told me that people are putting white glue in their hair for mo-hawks, I love the megheads only so much.
I covered half my nose as a test.
Meg: "Ken-it's not good for you!"
Megken: "I need to do it for the Megheads, they deserve to know."
Meg walks out of the room shaking her head as white glue dripped off the tip of my nose onto my shirt. She also said, "it takes off the good oils." I thought to myself, I am sure my nose will make more good oils. But then her words echoed in my head, and I continued to worry, "What if I have a reaction? What if half my nose turns red? What if Meg is right and I need those good oils?" After long 25 minutes of paranoid neurosis, the white eventually turned clear, and just in case Meg was correct I couldn't get it off me too soon.
I was on a mission for my readers, I was going to do this! Honestly, there was still a little white but most was clear when I slowly peeled the clear, hardish, re-purposed elementary-school-supply-turned-facial-product off my nose. It felt smooth. I saw what I thought were the little "pore-cloggers" on the glue as I was able to peel it all off in one piece.
Today, I woke up and both sides look the same, the pores still looked the same way before I coated them with craft adhesive. Thank heavens my nose was unharmed, my shirt is a different story.
I didn't notice a positive or negative change. What is the best way to do home extractions of black-heads, etc?

I've never had to do an extraction, thank god (dry skin here) but my roommate always holds a hot washcloth to the area, then takes tweezers to it.I do appreciate your dedication to us Megheads!

Ken, you are too crazy! Do not repeat this glue trick...listen to Meg! It is just wrong. Personally, I do not do extractions. Maybe it's because I have perfectly gorgeous skin. HAH! That's a good one. Well, ok, my skin's not THAT great - but it's ok for my age. Not having a lot of hormonal things going on anymore. In the future, when you are anxious to satisfy the Megettes' desire to hear about man stuff, just go to Sephora and let those nice folks talk with you about skin care. You'll feel oh so much better!

I love these posts - they're seriously amusing. I can honestly say I've never put glue on my face to remove pores, but I appreciate your dedication :P Usually I remove black heads as soon as I get out of the shower with a pair of tweezers.
Gun Show????
Gun Show???
Thanks for the great laugh! I have heard about using this glue on the face before, but I was never brave enough to try it, and now I'm glad that someone else did it so I don't have to. :) I don't have blackheads so I don't worry about extractions.

I got to go to a train show this weekend but I can complain. My husband goes into Sephora and to the MAC counter with me.I've tried scotch tape on my nose before but that was years ago.
Wait, was it a Gun Show or a Gun & Knife Show? You wouldn't want to miss out (please don't ask how I know this). For more in-your-face activities, I use a loop extractor after steaming my face. It's awesome if you're into squeezing, popping, or picking, but don't want to damage your skin -tweezers, melilala! stop that girl! Bioelements also makes a very nice pumice scrub for refining pores and eliminating blackheads. Confession: I'm totally addicted to using my extractor on unwilling boys and watching the nasty filth ooze out. Gross yet so satisfying. Am I twisted?
I've used those Biore strips before. I found they were really good as long as I used them correctly. If I didn't keep them on long enough it didn't get deep down.
I've never heard of that, but thanks for trying it out. Too bad it didn't work...Stick to Biore.
I LOVE a good gun show!!! I like guns and I like men so what more could you ask for??? Ladies, you're missing out,LOL! I can only imagine our manly-man megken desperately seeking out "something" to write about...LOL! I'm not going to try this,sorry...my dignity alone draws the line and THIS coming from the girl who told you to use Monistat cream on your face?No glue on my nose, not now,not ever...unless it's forever adhering me to Collin Farrell or some other Irish-hottie sex-machine I'm just not willing to go nose to nose with ELMER!!!LOVE the review megken and keep your nose clean, will 'ya? The things we do for beauty...and love! :)
aha! thanks for sacrificing your nose's well being for us (:i just steam my face, use a black head extractor, then scrub.my skin looks noticably different (:
this sounds like one of the biore products my friend use, she pat it on her nose and peel it 10minslater or soemthing, and you'd see these little black dots on it.

I am actually guilty of using Elmer for getting those pesky blackheads. I do it a little bit differently, though. I put the glue on a strip of paper and then apply to my nose/chin. I found that this method worked better for me. While glue may not be the best option out there, it was the only thing I had at the time that I needed it done. My skin didn't suffer from using it and I've used the glue quite a few times. Lately my skin has been blackhead free thanks to a very strict routine. Thanks Megken for the great review.
This is one gun show goin Meghead! One of mine and dh's favorite past times, it's a great confidence booster since I have all my teeth!I love Meg's response to putting glue on your nose! Well I'm also glad to know that it didnt work, I'm not so sure about putting glue on my nose, even though I'm sure when I was very young, I probably had some for a snack. I'm a picker, so I have no home remedy even though using OCM has been the best "extraction" method outside of my fingernails. Rubbing some castor/grapeseed oil mix and steaming my pores will do a decent job most of the time.
I'm ashamed to say I've actually tried this before. There was a time when my blackheads were really bad and this didn't work! What I do recommend is a DIY pore strip with egg whites and a paper towel. Beat the egg whites until they are foamy and soak the strip of paper towel, then put it on your nose like a pore strip. It'll harden, and just peel it off! Egg whites are very beneficial to the skin. They are rich in proteins and work to heal, cure, and repair your skin.
I have never heard of doing this before. I will be trying this asap. Thanks for the tip.
Oooh I like this idea! Definitely going to try it!
when we were kids we used to put Elmer's glue on our hands then peel it off, I don't know which one of us kids came up with this but it kept us entertained for hours...LOLI am fortunate in regards to my skin, no breakouts, boils, rashes, eczema however I do get my monthly pre-mensteral zit...like clock-work!
Haha! We did that as kids as well. We used the clear blue gel and would judt sit in class peeling glue off our hands while the teacher chattered away. We had contests to see who could peel their's off without it breaking.
I don't even have Elmer's glue anymore, so I can't even try this at home! I usually just do an at-home facial.. placing a hot towel on my face and then put a mask on, or I use one of those nose pore strips to remove any gunk.

Thankfully, I have never resorted to putting glue on my noise (and I have done a lot of crazy things for my skin). Thanks Megken for going out of your way for us.I use an asprin & honey mask in the shower (melt a few asprin in your hand, add honey, mix & aply to face) and after I scrub that off, I use Biore pore strips. I always get much more out of my pores, when I do it this way.
Warm steam opens the pores, so if you don't have a facial steamer, its best to do extractions in the hot shower (with a mirror of course!) or after apply a moist warm compress to your skin. I wrap my fingers in soft tissue and go at it, which prevents damage to your skin from your finger nails. Its best to exfoliate the skin first as well, which will make the extractions a little easier because you have shed the first layer of skin. You also have to be very careful of how you extract, doing it incorrectly can definitely result in scarring! As for pore strips, I currently use a DIY recipe that I learned here! The ingredients are knox gelatin and milk! I don't have the recipe on me right now but you should definitely look it up on here its a great inexpensive way to get some of the gunk out of your pores, but I have to warn you, it smells really gross. Better than elmers glue though :)
Hahaha, I can't believe you put glue on your face!

hahah that is so funny! I just went for faciail they did a lovely job for me. But at home i have tried this stuff and it really works!!http://www.mariobadescu.com/silver-powder
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I tried a scary black mask that peeled off like elmer's glue before and didn't notice much difference, as well as lots of strips and stuff. The only thing I've really found that keeps my blackheads at bay is my Clarisonic, my nose has never been so clear!
i have never done an extraction either.

Elmer's glue as a treatment gets an "okay" rating from me. It seemed like it got some dead skin off (that could have been my imagination) but it didn't really grab any gunk from deep in my pores. I only extract at night because the redness and blotches that pop up are hard to cover up. Here's what I do: I have a looped extractor that I got at Sephora. Tweezerman makes one also. I exfoliate with a scrub, wash my face, then try and steam or use a hot compress to open the pores, then I use the extractor. I keep a cotton ball with alcohol nearby to sterilize the extractor between pores so I don't transfer bacteria. After I'm done getting the nasties out, I either wash with a gentle cleanser or sweep a few swipes of a toner to get all traces of them off. If I really have time, I apply a mask to either calm and soothe or mattify and detox then follow up with a moisturizer. Then I sleep and hope I don't wake up too hideous in the morning from all of my poking and prodding. A few days later, I have improved skin.
I just tried this after reading your post! I really couldn't tell any difference. I have this little extraction tool that I really feel I should be able to master, but I have yet to extract a single thing with it. Biore strips seem to be the only thing that works, and I love the instant gratification of pulling off that strip and seeing all the disgusting things that were under my skin.
Megken, you crack me up! And I am so appreciative that you risked your poor nose to let us know if Elmer's glue actually works. :) I've used the Biore strips before, and they pulled out SOMETHING but didn't leave my pores looking vastly improved (but it was satisfying to know that SOME GUNK had been pulled out, ya know?) I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try Elmer's glue though.

Thanks for putting your nose on the line!!!
Haha, I have heard about this on the Ellen Show. I haven't used it personally, but I have done the DIY Gelatine and water pore strip (as advertised here in Meg's Makeup) and that worked quite well, even if it was a bit owchy to get off. Luckily I dont suffer from too many blackheads!! :)
This is hilarious! I usually use those strips. Once a week or once every two weeks, I'd use the strips for my entire face, then follow with a mask.
My best black head secret is Joining of Herbs toner. I couldn't believe it, after using for about 3-5 days, no more blackheads. I keep a black head/pimple popper around, but haven't used in over a year which I credit to the toner. My 24 year old niece swears the same thing.
Beste Hilsin
loooool...well that's newand yaaa i havent had to deal with blackheads either
i haven't heard of this method, but i've never had issues with blackheads wouldn't be looking forward to put glue on my face!
How funny it never crossed my mind to use glue for blackheads LOL I use the strips too !!!
What a great post, so adventurous! But, we often hear about household things being good for our skin so why not try it? Thanks to Megken, I don't have to! Glad it worked out for you!
Thank you so much meg for trying this! you are awesome its to bad it didnt work. I am always looking for silly at home ways of doing things such as deep conditioning my hair, cleaning my pores, etc.
hahaha ya i agree GUN SHOW?!?!?! ?thank you for the tip!!
I have never heard about using glue for blackheads, doesn't sound like something I would try. LOL! I don't really have a huge blackhead problem.

I would never put glue on my nose!
I use Mario Badescu Silver powder, or an extraction tool after a hot shower. But...my sis does happen to use Elmer's glue lol. :)
LOL, while I wouldn't try glue myself, I was thoroughly enjoying reading about it! I'm glad there weren't any adverse side effects. I've tried the Biore strips and a few 'blackhead eliminating' scrubs, but unfortunately I've never been able to find anything that gets rid of them and KEEPS them away. My pores seem to be continuously clogged, sadly.
Hah, this gave me a good laugh. I never thought about using Elmer's glue before. Too bad it doesn't work & isn't that great for the skin. For extraction I use the steam of hot water to open my pores and use a clean (with alcohol) metal extractor tool (I don't know what its technical name is). I clean, tone, and moisturize my face afterwards. Then to try to keep clogged pores at bay, I exfoliate once a week. I've also heard about the use of egg whites and paper towels/toilet paper, but haven't tried it.
lol I have never heard of elmers glue for blackheads!!! OMG hilarious! I just do it the good ol fashion way but I saw this nifty zit extractor at the mal this week and was tempted to buy it!!

HAHAHA!!! thats dedication right there!!! I am glad i didnt bring you out in a rash! I do silly things like this and i know the panic i feel when i am not sure if i should have used something on my face or not!!! =D its a shame it didnt work! I have used the biore pore strips once and it done nothing-but i dont think i had any black heads to get rid of that the time-Im having a nightmare with my skin at the mo (breaking out from major stress issues!) so i will give them another shot (and def gonna try the egg and tissue homemade strips!
I dont get black heads but if I do ill remember not to try this, haha
None of us will ever look at Elmer's glue the same way again....... Very funny read Megken! Always listen to Meg, she knows things. ;)
Thanks for being so dedicated to us! :) Thankfully I don't really get blackheads, but my poor dog does. A good toner helps a lot.
