ESSENTIAL OIL MOISTURIZING MASK! AKA THE ONLY REASON I'VE USED A MEASURING CUP ASIDE FROM SANGRIA!
Meg here! Welcome to our Inaugural Gorgeous Kitchen Recipes! You may have watched our video and thought. What? That's the big recipe? Squirt, drop, mix and done? Also, this D.I.Y stuff is expensive! I've spent like $40 big ones on those ingredients. What are you trying to pull O'Brien?!
My response? I know, right?
Here's my defense-stick with me here...You're going to have those essential oil bottles for a year. You're not going to have to run out and refill for a very long time. Secondly, I'm putting the benefits and what else you can use them for. My last point is this-we are growing together. Sure some of you are master chefs. Some of use never got an Easy Bake Oven, each week our recipes are going to get a little bit more involved. Think of us as Coco before Chanel.
That recipe was really soothing on my chapped skin. I felt refreshed when I used it and I even put it on my hands (like a paraffin treatment-except without the paraffin.)
Thanks for Cindsoo who was just minding her own business in her room The next thing she knows she's dressed like Little Bo Peep while I brush gel on her face. Boy do I owe her.
Here's what our main ingredients are used for a lot and why they'll be making a bunch of appearances in our GKR (GKR? Because we're cool like that.)
Aloe Vera Gel: Like you ladies don't know these-Cures sunburns, rashes, eczema, athletes foot and prevents scarring of stretch marks. Cleopatra used to rub her body down with it. Look at that-after 2,000 years we are still talking about that sexy goddesses routine. Good enough for her, good enough for me. Side note-there is also a rumor she drank turpentine to make her urine smell like violets. We'll wait for month 4 before we start incorporating the turpentine.
Lavender Vera Oil Drops: Helps with Insomnia, depression and acne. Add it to your bath, add it to your skin, add it to your pillow. Just don't add it to your tummy. Not meant to be digested. I mean, not as much as turpentine.
Rose Otto Drops: (ours was mixed with Jojoba oil to keep the price reasonable and also that's all I could find at Whole Foods.) Helps with frigidity, impotence and sluggish libido *Hello Valentine's Day*. For the skin it has healing and relaxing properties.
Geranium Drops: Reduce the appearance of cellulite? Yup, that's what I'm reading. It also tones the skin, helps with PMS and reduces stress. You can also use it on your hair. Careful if you're pregnant with Geranium Drops (and all essential oils) this one if used in extreme excess can cause miscarriage.
In Case you want to write the recipe down!
1/4 Cup of Aloe Vera Gel
Add 3 drops of Rose Otto
2 drops of lavender vera
2 drops of geranium
Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir it up pretty well! Apply to with fingers or a foundation brush clean skin. Leave it on 5-15 minutes and wash off with a warm cloth and and voila! Essential Oils Hydration at work!
So what do you think? Did you try the mask? How'd you do? Would it have been way better for you if Eleni was in your kitchen opening you pink champagne?

I wanted to try this mask out badly but I didn't buy the ingredients as I am on a budget right now. You say geranium drops reduce the appearance of cellulite and helps with PMS? I seriously need that! Maybe you could cook up some concoctions for us oily skinned ladies too!
Ha Ha ! your kitchen looks curiously pristine and unused.Anyway I'm ordering the lavendervera drops today and will post how it turned out for me afterward.P.S I have loads of books full of beauty receipes if you want any.

Dying of the cuteness here: Cindy is a GORGEOUS guinea-pig and is it possible for Eleni NOT to smolder??? LOLROF!I am seeing a TV show based on the "Kitchen Beauty of Megan"...:)Girl...get a freakin' mini-wisk,will ya'...enough with the spoon clanging on the bowl,HAHAHAHAHA! You CAN tell you don't cook but damn you look FABULOUS!It looks like a lovely, calming, and doable masque and I'm SO proud of my Becky-Home-Eckies you just don't know!!!Thanks for sharing, might be my fav post from you ever. :)

Great video! I'm definitely going to have to try this recipe.Lavender essential oil is incredible. I use it on nicks, cuts, scrapes, etc. as it does help to stop bleeding. Also, it's supposed to be great for burns (helps to reduce scarring). It makes an effective all natural deodorant (rub a drop on each armpit). If your kids are a bit cranky/wound up/sick, put some lavender oil on your pulse points, and give your little ones a big hug! They'll be able to sniff the lavender and calm down. These are just a few of the uses of lavender oil, it is a valuable multi-tasker. My family and I go through it in no time at all! ;)
i'm looking forward to the next homemade beauty recipe!

LOVE the video! You def need to get a TV show! I couldn't find lavender vera so I've just got plain ol' lavender. But I'm going to give it a shot today. Can't wait to try this out. Oh, wait, no - I have to get the champagne too - I'm out of it!

It sucks how expensive good, natural ingredients are! Whole Foods also is pretty bad about prices, you can probably find a lot of the items at places like iHerb and GoW. I'm on a tight budget right now, but I do want to buy some more aloe very gel since mine's expired and the lavender at the very least for now. And I agree, you ladies definitely need your own show.
Thanks Meg & Eleni. You two looked awesome.I was so excited, I just had to try this right away. I bought my ingredients before hand (yeah, they really are expensive) and it was so easy just to mix this stuff together. I left it on for the 5 minutes and my skin felt great after I washed it off. Thanks for the DIY recipe!

I found another use for whole flax seeds besides grinding them up in my smoothies. If you soak whole flax seeds in purified water overnight, a gel will form.(I use 2 tb. to 1/2 cup water)I strain the flax seeds and use the gel- which has a tightening effect- with actives to make facial masks. You can also mix it with aloe, bioferment or really anything. You can make the gel thicker with less water but it is hard to strain. Here is another recipe I found online that you can add actives to (haven't tried it):FLAX SKIN LOTIONFlax seeds make for a very softening gel for the skin.1 cup filtered water1 tablespoon flax seeds1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin1 tablespoons aloe vera gel (optional)Combine water and flax seeds in a small pan, bring to a boil, and simmer until the mixture is thickened. Remove from the heat and strain out as many seeds as you can. Add the glycerin, and blend with a hand mixer. Refrigerate, and discard after a week.
connemara22, can you use ground flax seeds instead for the mask, since it'll be washed off anyways? (I never have whole flax on hand, just ground flax since I add it to food and I heard ground flax is easier for the body to absorb).I'm also curious about this mask, if it's a good choice for oily skin. In any case, I'm really looking forward to more Meg and Eleni doing their beauty recipes in the kitchen :D And your roommate too (where did she get that adorable frilly shirt?)

Love the video, more please! I couldn't find all the ingredients, we don't have Whole Foods (the horror!) where I live. After I order the rest of the ingredients and whisk them all together I will report back with my results. Homemade masks are amazing and you can feel good about everything you use, you made it after all! I especially liked watching Eleni pop the champagne, very fun! Kitchen Beauticians Rule......
I loved that video! I have to get rose otto and then I can try out the mask tomorrow.

I love it when you guys make videos. You always look like you're having fun :) This recipe looks super simple (which is good for me), unfortunately, I only have aloe vera gel, so I won't be making this. I was wondering how this would do with oily skin? I know you said its best on chapped dry skin.
Wow, love this! I can't wait for the next recipe.
i would love to see more videos like this on the blog! it's informative and entertaining at the same time! the geranium essential oil sounds perfect for me when it's those stressful and nasty PMS days.

Meg that was fantastic!! Love, love, loved that you did a video and actually did the mask yourself - instead of posting it and expecting us to flummox through it first and see if it's worth-while. It looks divine, I'm definitely doing this one. ♥
This looks very cool. Can you try the bentonite clay (Aztec healing clay) and apple cider vinegar mask for the next venture into the pristine kitchen?
How awesome! I have been making my own facial masks for about 2 weeks now, I think I bought my stuff two or three days before your first post! Mine aren't as fancy as yours, all I need is some white clay, honey, a small drop of tea tree oil and some lavender oils. Its been amazing and my skin is certainly better for it!
YAY! Videos! You'll have to do more! I'm a visual learner.

Great job! We need more of such vids! I didn't try this yet as I only have aloe vera gel. Also wondering how it will work on combination skin?
this seems so cool! will definitely try this when i have time.
So I did the mask I just used lavender oil instead of lavender aloe(cause no patience waiting for order of lavender vera),my rose otto was in jojoba oil as well.It worked really well I did it really late last night and my skin is still really soft today. My skin was in its usual confused winter state ie :really dehydrated and this mask totally took away the dryness without making me break out and my moisturiser sunk in better instead of sitting on my skin blocking my pores.I left it on for 15 mins and it was really cooling(not one of those masks that your sitting their thinking when do I get to wash this off).I'll be doing this once a week from now on to keep winter dryness at bay and have loads of product left.Even the next day makeup goes on better.Seriously try it you will love it.

I love love love this and can't wait for another video with more DIY recipes. I'm going to get those ingredients as soon as I can... After horseback riding yesterday in the windy, cold at 7,000 ft. my face is a little irritable. This sounds like the perfect remedy.

Loved the video, thank you so much for the recipes, cant wait to try!!
Hi Ladies,I added the actual recipe but if didn't see it-here it is! In Case you want to write the recipe down!1/4 Cup of Aloe Vera GelAdd 3 drops of Rose Otto2 drops of lavender vera2 drops of geraniumCombine all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir it up pretty well! Apply to with fingers or a foundation brush clean skin. Leave it on 5-15 minutes and wash off with a warm cloth and and voila! Essential Oils Hydration at work!
FABULOUS. I am so all over this, if I can get my lazy bum to the store for the ingredients.
MEG-- How many masks/applications does this make? (It did not look like you put this on overly thick in the video. However, since it is clear it may be hard to judge.)I went to Trader Joes today and got the aloe. However, they did not have the other essential oils. I may just try the aloe and tea tree oil and see how that works.
I love oils! Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to go to the store and get this stuff, so maybe my skin can be transformed later. :)
i agree the mesuring cup is for the boy! haha .. thank you for the recipi! ill have to try it after i pay off all my x mas gifts! haha
This sounds great - I love the video. I especially appreciate it in this drying winter weather.
Very cool! Can't wait to get more recipes! I was excited for this one because of the lavender! It was alot thinner than I imagined but made for an easier application! Bring on more do it yourself beauty!

I think the lavender one sounds good. I am going to suggest this one for my mommy, because she always is up in the middle of the night and it says it can help you sleep? Christmas ideas for meee!
