GIVE YOUR HAIR A "FINISHED" LOOK
MissRo here! I have shared with you my technique on the perfect blow dry and what products to use. But, there's one product that you absolutely must have for your hair whether it's curly or straight.
It's usually a thick, clear gel that you can use on wet or dry hair. For curly hair, it really helps to form your curls if you use it on your wet hair. If you use it when your hair is dry, it gives your curls a smooth, silky look, and tames the frizz. For straight hair, when you apply it wet it helps with your blow dry to tame the frizz while it dries. Once your hair is dry, you take a drop of it, warm it up in your hands and smooth out the fly-aways. Have you figured it out yet? It's a finishing gel! And that's the latest product I tried from the Mixed Chicks line, their Hair Silk.
The first thing I noticed was how light the texture is. Lighter than any other finishing gel I have tried. I first used it to style my hair in it's natural, curly form. I used a good amount of it on my wet hair. I let it dry and was thrilled to see how silky and shiny my hair was! It looked like it was still wet! A few days later, I decided to try it for styling my hair straight. I used a drop of it with my usual styling cream and blew dry it straight. Again, it was super silky and shiny! I had a few fly-aways and used another tiny drop to smooth those out.
If you have really thick hair, you may want to use more to make sure you get it on all your hair. Also, if you have be using a styling product for a while, you might want to mix the Hair Silk with it to see how it goes. I know how sensitive women are about their hair and when you are starting a new product, especially for the hair or the face, you want to slowly ease into it so you have similar results.
The best part about Hair Silk is that it's only $11.99! Similar products can run you anywhere between $20 and $50!
Have you used any type of finishing product before? If so, what brand?

My HG product is Moroccanoil, although I don't like how expensive it is so I've been keeping a few ideas in my head about what to purchase as soon as mine runs out. Right now I'm thinking I'm going to try Sally Beauty's version of the argan oil. I just absolutely love what it does for my wavy/loose curly hair.

I use finishing gel by John Frieda, but I'm almost out, and I never liked the smell anyway. What does the Mixed Chicks finishing gel smell like? I need some new stuff, especially with the dry weather.
I've heard so many wonderful things about Mixed Chicks in the past few months I'm itching to try their line!

I thought all I needed from MC was the leave-in conditioner.. but it seems now I need this as well! Curly hair in general doesn't reflect light as well as straight hair, so it's not as shiny. My hair is also color treated so it's a bit dry and lackluster. I was just commenting earlier that I want to get the Caruso Steam Rollers because of the shine it adds for when my curls are uncooperative, but I think this product just went on my wish list as well! I've tried a couple of finishing gels that appear to smooth down frizz and give shine at first, but after a little while the top layer of hair always refrizzes and the shine disappears. Does this do that at all, or does it last all day?
I feel the same way about curly hair and shine. I'm always looking for something to make my hair really shiney. I bought the MC leave in conditioner and I think it makes my hair look and feel really healthy and really SHINY. I tried to order their serum when I ordered their leave in conditioner and it was out of stock. I think this would be great for the days I don't wash my hair to re-define the curl. I use to use FrizzEase but it was kinda expensive for the amount you get. I then started using citrishine and was happy that it was double to amount with similar results.

Ooh, thanks for letting me know about the shine! Have you noticed any difference in texture? Some days my hair feels pretty soft and others it almost feels wiry, even if I use the same shampoo. I've also used FrizzEase in the past, as well as Garnier, BioSilk, and Biolage serums and Aquage curl defining cream (made my hair kind of crunchy). I haven't tried Citrishine, but I know I've eyed it in the past.
I <3 CHI Silk Infusion! Unfortunately I have been unable to locate it in any store for some reason so I hope they still make it. I love the smell of it (kinda like a guy's cologne lol).
I've seen it a few different places recently, I think they still make it! Try Target.

I don't use one. I have straight hair which doesn't get frizzy. It has the occasional fly-away, but that is easily controlled by spraying some hairspary onto my hands and then smoothing them down. I have very oily hair, so I'd be concerned that the finishing gel, applied wet would make my hair oilier.
11.99 niiiice, my hair is forever frizzy, so i think ill look into this
I've never used a finishing product but think I need to start using one. My hair gets quite frizzy and it sounds like a finishing gel is exactly what I need.

I have been using the all of the other Mixed Chicks products, this spray jel in next on my list. What a great line of hair care products!!
I have curly / wavy hair and I could really use a finishing gel.Now I have to add this to my soon to be order of the leave in conditioner.

I use Moroccan Oil - it's the best product out there...whether I wear my hair straight, after intense blow drying and use of the hot flat iron, or I let it dry naturally wavy....this stuff is THE finishing product for me! HOWEVER, now I'm totally intrigued with the mixed chicks! You never know if there is something even better than your best thing now if you don't at least try it right? I am going to seek their products out!
Jeanasina!
I use this whenever I want to blow my hair straight. It gives a mooth, shiny, glas-like surface to my hair. I always start with moroccan oil, then use a 2nd product, usually a serum like this. I've found that all of their products deliver results for not a lot of money.
I only blow dry my hair when I'm going out but now that I'm entering the work force might need to start doing it more and this sounds really good!
I don't always use a finishing product, don't always need it. But I do have a tube of Barex Italiana Hairgomine smooth styling gel. It smells great - and it does give my extremely curly hair some shine. It complements my Jessicurl routine. I haven't tried it yet with a blow-dry experience but I'm sure it would be good. At least for the 30 minutes before my hair returns to its normal curly state!I'm really impressed with all the positive comments about Mixed Chicks!

i haven't used any finishing products.. does hair spray and hair gel count? my hair is extremely stubborn with endless fly aways..so i just use hair spray to pat them down and hold my fringe in place. i'm very curious about hair finishing products, since gel and hair spray ends up as a stringy white matter in my hair sometimes, would this be like that as well?

I was walking past a salon in the mall yesterday and I saw a huge sign for Mixed Chicks! I was very excited. I don't know if they carry the whole line or not, but I'm going to check it out next time I'm in the mall. I may have to try a styling product from them.
I so want to try this brand, especially after hearing all of these great reviews. I think that the price of this product is great. I haven't found a finishing product that I'm happy with yet
I've tried using the finishing serum from Citre Shine before. But I'm really a lazy person when it comes to my hair. I love the way it looks just after I had it cut and styled at the salon but after that it's like I grew an entirely different head of hair.
This sounds amazing! I've tried several different serums before, but I've never been that amazed by the results. I desperately need to try this and all the other Mixed Chicks products now... maybe I'll just put them on my Christmas list! xD
$11.99 is a great price-I use phytodefrisant relaxing balm which is fab and this sound's like it works in the same way and has the same consistency and mine costs a lot more-IF you blow your hair straight does it stay that way all day.

I use jojoba oil & i get the same results! I apply as I am blow drying (or while wet if I air dry), and I apply a little to finish it off and it looks great; tames frizz and makes your hair look very shiny & healthy. The plus side is that jojoba oil is incredible for your hair, as well as your skin. It's one of those products that I use for everything!
I like this mixed chicks product better than that other very popular brand.... that has the initials B.S.
I've used a couple of different finishing products: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, which I liked and smells nice; TiGi S-Factor Dream Drops; some other serum that my mom bought and it also smells nice. All three of these are serums that add shine and help slick down hair a bit. I've also used Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, which I like a lot. It also adds shine and slicks down hair.

Generally I try to stay away from serums and gels for my hair - I find they can make it feel weighed down and greasy after a day or two. If I'm going somewhere special I may use one, but for day-to-day wear I never do. :]
It sounds kind of like Biosilk's Silk Infusion...that's what I usually use to finish my hair and make it less frizzy. It makes my hair sooo soft and touchable!
I use a Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Lustre Cream of something like that. It minimizes dry time, smells amazing and gives shine.
Oooh, this sounds like something I need, I always get flyaways when I blow dry my hair, I get all those baby hair sticking up and the only thing I have is pommade so I use a little of it, it works tho, but to have soemthing that'll make it nice and shiney!
Wow for that price how can you beat it, plus I've heard so many good things aobut Mixed Chicks I really want to give this a try. Thanks for the great review.
I love products that you can use on dry or wet hair. My hair loves moisture and i think this product would do the trick for any hair type.
I use Moroccan Oil as well and love it, but this sounds interesting! I will have to try it out!
yes i do, mostly i use aveda anti humectant. it gives my bushy curly sometimes frizzy hair a nice sheen esp needed if blow drying. Girls, i live in FL and my hair goes crazy here, maybe the humidity but was also thinking it was the smelly water. i cant wait because ive just ordered a sprite shower filter and i think it is going to make a world of dif to my hair. cant wait!!!
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
Oh I didnt know they had a finishing gel.I have a bottle from the "Sexy Hair" line. I think the finishing gel is Silky Sexy Hair. And I love it. But that bottle will last me forever! I only use a teensy amount! But will keep this in mind because I did love the mixed chicks line! But Im so loyal to the sexy hair!
Tan is Love
I have thick wavy hair so I usually use a silkening product, right now I'm using Sheer Blonde but I've also used Frizz Ease, this one sounds good for the price
This Mixed Chicks Hair Silk sounds really great, and a good price. I use Moroccan oil. Also, in my cabinet is Biosilk, and Fekkai couff perfecteur anti-frizz silkening creme. I just LOVE anything by Fekkai. That is a brand I don't feel like I have product laying on top of my hair. I think it sinks-in, nurishes and helps. Sounds like this Mixed Chicks product does that also. Sometime I would like to get some of this. You do have to change off products now and then. Nice review :-)
You know, I just realized I should recommend this line to my sister. She has very, very thick, slightly coarse, wavy/curly textured hair and I think she would probably really love this stuff. I love that they have a trial pack of a couple of products available, I think I'm going to get her one!
WOW! That price isn't bad at all. I'll have to try Mixed Chicks out one of these days.

i just sent in a re-order Tuesday for more conditioner and the hair silk, today I got an e-mail with the tracking info on it!! i should get my package any day...i can't wait, I am so in love with this line of hair care.
I have fine straight hair and use john frieda secret weapon to calm the flyaways after I blowdry. I never thought to use something before I blowdry, besides mousse.
i have straight hair but i can never achieve that "finished" look, when i blow dry my hair it gets all puffy. i should check this out
Thanks for the review, I would love to try the mixed chicks hair silk. Don't think I'd used any finishing products before. Just yesterday I applied a tiny bit of egyptian magic cream on my blown-dry hair and the hair stayed frizz free all day, yet not limpy.
The product I use is a John Frieda one, but I can't seem to find it anywhere online, so I suppose it may have been discontinued. I guess this means it's about time for me to find a replacement! Thanks for the blog -- good reminder!
I usually don`t use a finish product because I think that it gets my hair dirty. However when I need more fixation I use Pantene hair spray.
I would definitely try this! I like their leave-in, but don't really use it much anymore b/c I need UV filters and heat protectants--I have to use multi-tasking products. However, a good serum is always something that can be used... Of course, if it multi-tasks, that would be better. Does this protect against heat damage?
I love finishing products. I've used a million different kinds, from drug store ones like John Frieda and Citre Shine and I've also used salon kinds like Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and Biosilk Silk Therapy. They all work well as long as you don't OD on them. If you use too much you definitely look like you haven't washed your hair in weeks. Right now I'm using Razac "Perfect for Perms" Polishing Gloss. I bought it on accident at Rite Aid(I was being rushed by my boyfriend). I'm actually pretty happy with it though, it's a little bit lighter than some serums I've tried, but does a nice job of making my hair shiny and controlling frizz.
I've only used a Nutriesse one which stunk! What should I expect?! I was also thinking trying Sally's version of the Argan Oil, but this sounds great too! This is going on my list as well.
I've never used a finish product for my hair because i have so thin hair and i avoid to put so much thing on !!!
Here in New York there are always events giving out free hair products, so that's usually what I use..-Silky Sexy Hair works well and is pretty much the only thing I will actually purchase.-Bumble&Bumble hair lotion is a little too thin for my liking, but still works well.-It's a 10 conditioning spray works very well, but I don't know how much I like the spray applicator.
