GETTING TO KNOW MIXED CHICKS!
MissRo here! Well, we've learned about most of the products in the Mixed Chicks line. How about learning about the Founders behind the brand, Wendi Levy and Kim Etherdge.
Wendi and Kim, two "mixed chicks", created this product line because they needed it. Then, something happened! Friends and family started encouraging them to package it, and soon they had a full blown business running out of the garage. After a little door to door hustling, a few celebrity endorsements, and a ton of online customer support, MIXED CHICKS is now sold worldwide!
*My name and hometown?
Wendi Levy, Atlantic City, NJ
Kim Etheredge, Culver City, CA
*My start in life was to do this?
Wendi - I was a school teacher... (math and p.e.)
Kim - Just be the best person I could be.
*The path I took towards cosmetics was driven by this?
Wendi - By a personal need. I was tired of mixing and matching products for straight or coarse hair.
Kim - There really were no products designed for my specific hair type.
*I want all women to know this about themselves?
Wendi - Their smile is their best accessory.
Kim - You don't have to be anyone but yourself.
*My goal is to bring each user of my products this?
Wendi - I want each of my users to embrace their curls instead of battle them.
Kim - Bring an end to their hair struggle.
*I believe in all of my products, but if I could urge each woman to try this one (pick your favorite) I would say?
Wendi & Kim - Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner. Now one simple step to define and control your curls at little cost and no time.
*Style influences vary, I would say my style is most like this?
Wendi - Casual, comfortable, with a slight hippie influence.
Kim - Girl next door, but dressed up a little!
*I started my line because I couldn't find this?
Wendi - a single styling product that could moisturize, define, and defrizz in one stelp.
Kim - "One" product to help my combination hair.
*I deliver this with each product?
Wendi - Good feelings.
Kim - A network where people can express themselves, discuss their hair issues, and find comfort in knowing a product was designed specifically for them.
*When I see a women make this mistake I cringe?
Wendi - Women that prefer long hair over healthy hair. When I see 2 or 3 inches of dry, dead, crispy hair.
Kim - Curly hair that is so hard and crunchy it breaks off when you touch it.
*My products care about the way you look like no one else's because of this?
Wendi - Because it is the only product designed for "us" and by "us". The multi-cultural revolution has begun.
Kim - They allow you to look good with no effect or struggle so you are able to emphasize on the other areas in your life that make you beautiful.
*Lastly, if I were at a bar I'd order this?
Wendi - Red wine or a dirty martini if I'm feeling crazy.
Kim - "Mixed" cocktail ;).
*True or False, I'm going to tell you when there's spinach between your teeth?
Wendi - True
Kim - I always will
Well, there you have it! Thanks Wendi and Kim!
Megheads, have you had a chance to try the Mixed Chicks product line? If so, which product? Also, I agree with the ladies about crunchy curls. I'm curious, what's your biggest beauty pet peeve?

It was nice reading about and getting to know these ladies. They're certainly inspiring individuals. And I totally agreed with Wendi's cringe-worthy mistake of seeing a woman who can't wrap her mind around the fact that she needs a haircut, simply because she wants to keep it long, despite the health of it.I have not had the pleasure of trying this line but I would LOVE to.

I haven't tried any of their products yet, but I would love to see how their leave-in conditioner works with my hair. I checked out their website a few days ago and the prices are awesome!

I also have not tried this line, although after reading about the women behind it I'd love to. I've tried other curl products in the past (defining, smoothing, defrizzing, etc etc), and they all either made my curls stiff, droopy, or didn't do anything at all. Mine aren't tight, they're more like loose ringlets depending on the length, but most of the time if I just let it air dry (which I always do) I wind up with the top layer of hair being frizzed and unmanageable.I agree, both crunchy and unhealthy long hair are cringeworthy.
What a fantastic picture of two happy, gorgeous curly-haired ladies! I have been thinking about trying this for my wavy hair. But, it's mostly summer when I have frizz issues, so I might have to wait a few months. oh, and my beauty pet peeve is the foundation line. gross! Blend! Blend! Blend!!!
These women are so beautiful. I wish my hair looked THAT good. If I could just be patient enough to grow my hair longer... My hair is that curly, but I can't stand it when it's in-between short and long. I agree with the Mixed Chicks about the crimes of crisp, crunchy curls and long, dead hair that needs cutting. Some women must not have mirrors!

What a great post, thanks MissRo! I love what you both have said Wendy and Kim and I adore everything I've read about your line! I can only see it helping out many many women, which is a great thing! My biggest beauty peeve is when people wear a shade of lip-liner that's waaaaay too dark for the lipstick their wearing. Or when they forgo the lipstick in its entirity and JUST wear the liner. I swear, they must be blind to not see how bad it looks!!
Kim, "You don't have to be anyone but yourself." That really touched me. It's so easy and so tragic to forget that simple truth. Thank you for the reminder. Wendi, "I want each of my users to embrace their curls instead of battle them." Amen! Seriously, I wish more people thought like you. Mixed Chicks Leave in Conditioner truly is a fabulous product. It totally delivers on all fronts, soft defined curls with zero frizz and lots of beautiful movement. I love it and use every single time I let my natural curl shine through!
"Women that prefer long hair over healthy hair. When I see 2 or 3 inches of dry, dead, crispy hair."oooh man, i too cant staaaaand seeing that! The length doesnt even matter anymore, cause all your focusing on is how dead it looks. But anyways, it was nice getting a chance to learn about these ladies!
It's so wonderful to see the amazing women behind Mixed Chicks! My beauty peeve is when women have the foundation line around their jaw, it looks awful!

I have tried their trio and I am impressed. However... I can't leave my crunchy curls behind. The leave in conditioner did its job, but doesnt hold together in wind and rain like crunchy curls do!! lol I know its horrible. I agree though about the length thing. I always see people with really long hair and it looks like a rat tail at the end!!!Lol its nice to meet the people behind the products!!!

I love their leave in conditioner. It's fabulous. I have wavy hair, but it does a great job of controlling my frizz and defining my waves. It's a little bit heavy on my hair, so I only need a tiny bit, but I really do like it :)
I am on my second bottle of their leave-in conditioner, I got the first from Meg, and I have loved it ever since! I also have the deep conditioner and shampoo, as well as the hair silk, which is great for my straight hair days.
nice interview - I love reading how products were inspired.and Wendi convinced this Wendy to get a haircut this weekend!
Thanks for bringing us this interview. I love hearing about the people behind the brands
I haven't tried their line yet, I am interested a little. I'll have to check it out one of these days. Thanks for the interview!

great interview! I haven't tried any of Mixed chicks products (the international link isn't working!) although I hope to try it soon. My biggest beauty pet peeve: women who overpluck their eyebrows, leaving a round head at the front and a thin line. reminds me of a sperm...
I haven't tried Mixed Chicks yet, but they seem like such genuine, nice gals! I wish I had their gorgeous, curly hair...My biggest pet peeve is poorly groomed, unplucked or overplucked brows. Brows totally make a person's face. Do 'em right and keep 'em right (I'm not saying I never went through terrible brow phases... I definitely did! But just seeing the semicircular brows that don't even resemble the natural shapes of brows... that makes me cringe).

I bougth the leave in conditioner after on of missro's posts and I love it! I can't wait to try the other products.

I havent tried the mixed chicks line because i have straight hair- but Wendi and Kim seem so lovely makes me wanna go buy the qhole range! My biggest beauty pet peeves are when someones eyebrows are crazy scruffy or waaay too thin (or compketely removed then drawn on in a really unnatural arch)or when people get mascara mistakes all round their eyes and dont bother to remove it!
Nice to get to know you two.I haven't tried the line yet but i've been meaning to get the leave in conditioner. I have curly hair that always gets so frizzy and I really need to find something tha works. My personal beauty pet peeve is seeing the color line on a womans chin/neck where the foundation stops (because the color doesn't match). This bothers me so much because that person was me for far too long.

Nice getting to know these beautiful women. I would love to try one of their conditioners. I checked out their website and the prices are great. Last Spring I tried Jessiecurl as recommended from reviewers on this site. That was a good product, and I liked the fact that it's natural. I'll give this product a try also. Thanks.
my biggest pet peeve...seeing a pretty girl "over-done" with make-up (looking garish)I have been using the mixed chicks line for about a month, I Love It! I have found that with my hair after i shampoo and condition I will wait until my hair almost dry then I apply the Leave In conditioner, then I pile all my hair up ontop of my head and leave it. Next morning I let my hair down and it looks devine!!
This is a reminder to me that i need to go to my hairdresser, ive just been soooo busy! I have curly thick hair too, that easily frizzes and i dont like too much product as i dont like to wash my hair everyday.. leave in conditioners are great though as they do tend to let my curls fall nice and not frizzy. sometimes just leaving in my normal conditioner works too.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I have not had the chance to try the mixed chicks line of fabulous products yet. But they sound like a dream for those of us with naturally curly hair. I'm planning to try some of the products asap. My biggest beauty peeve has got to be spider lashes. I know you have all seen them. The women that cake on mascara to the point it looks tacky and clumpy, like spider legs. You can wear a lot of mascara and make it look clean and nice, but some women just dont get that. I just want to run up to those poor women and give them a lash comb to help declumpify the situation. In my opinion spider lashes can ruin a whole makeup look. I used to have the problem slightly when I was younger, but I quickly found and taught myself about the lash comb. No spider legs here. lol.
These ladies are certainly inspiring--it takes major guts to really go after a dream to fulfill a need for yourself and for other ladies, and look how successful they are! I love supporting small, independent companies like this that really add love and care as ingredients in their products.
They truly are inspiring! I haven't tried any of their products because I can't seem to pay more attention to my hair. My biggest pet peeve is seeing women with stick straight hair due to chemical relaxation growing out their kinky roots! Plain annoying.
I love all their products! These products make my hair feel so soft and disentangles my hair instantly. I recommend these products to anyone. especially the shampoo and deep conditioner.
I love these little indie brands and the people who create them. I find it so inspiring the way they had a need for a product and took the initiative to make one for themselves and now made a business out of it so they could share it with other people who have the same needs.
My beauty pet peeve is when someone does dark lip liner and light lipstick or puts on waaaay too much perfume.
Thanks for the interview and article. Haven't tried it though.
Embrace my curls? That sounds heavenly. I'd love to end the every-other-day wash/dry/straighten struggle, but it's soooooo hard to make curls work in daily life!
I've never tried it before.
