CleanWell All-Natural Hand Sanitizer

  • Miscellaneous

Clean WellBabyLove here!  Thanks to everyone who contributed their personal
products for dark circles.  I really appreciate it, and will be
looking into getting some for review.

There's nothing worse than having sick kids.  The winter months are
especially difficult since William picks up a virus at school, passes
it on to Calum, and then to me, but of course never my husband. I'm
really happy to be able to review a product that helps me cut down
these episodes.  I can't prevent every illness lurking around the
corner, but I can try.

I'm sort of a hand sanitizer junkie.  I'm the woman in the Target
parking lot with the enormous bottle of Prell.  I clean every inch of
those carts, except I do it with one of Calum's socks that he pulled
off instead of a napkin.  I'm not perfect, organized, or prepared so a
random sock will just have to do.  In fact, just the other day I ran
out of diapers and put two maxi pads together in William's Lightening
McQueen undies for naptime.  For the record, his "special big boy
diaper" worked wonders.

Since I'm like a hand sanitizer connoisseur,  I know exactly what I'm
looking for when it comes to one that I want to use, and buy again.
In CleanWell, I have found just that.  Let me tell you a few of the
reasons why I love CleanWell so much.  First off, the sanitizer comes
in a spray, and not a gel.  I like the spray so much better than the
gel because both my boys like to get a squirt of the gel, and watch it
slowly slip down their hands, onto the car seat, their clothes, or
whatever else, and evaporate.  With the spray, I know I get a good,
clean shot.  Secondly, I am not a fan of sanitizers that claim to
"moisturize."  These always leave me feeling like I need to wash my
hands, and sanitizing is usually necessary when you can't exactly get
to the sink.  CleanWell leaves my hands feeling clean, and not greasy
or slimey.  Lastly, CleanWell Ingenium smells awesome.  I would
actually consider wearing it as a perfume.  It smells like every
citrus fruit out there (I cannot name all citrus fruits, I'm sorry),
but it's not one bit overwhelming or sharp smelling.

CleanWell was specifically developed for a child with an immune
disorder.  His father and grandmother researched ways to make products
that would still effectively clean, but did not contain toxins.  They
did just that, and have a full line of hand sanitizer and soaps.
Their products contain no alcohol, are cruelty free, and use plant
oils to kill 99.99% of germs.  99.99% of GERMS with plant oils!?  Boy,
are they making it easy for us or what?!

I promise, that if hand sanitizers are your thing (in my experience,
you're either someone who carries it, or doesn't) then CleanWell
should definitely be on your list.  They have a number of different
scents to try, which I did, and love just about everyone.  This is a
good, safe product for everyone.  Make cold and flu season a bit
easier on yourselves this year, CleanWell, live well.

I'd be suspicious of any hand sanitizer that claimed to kill 99.99% of germs without alcohol, but plant oils.. that doesn't make much sense. There was a study on the news where an experiment was conducted at a college.  The participants washed their hands for 20 seconds with soap & water, 20 seconds with anti-bac soap and water, and rubbed for 20 seconds with hand sanitizer.  they took cultures and waited.  the anti bac soap didn't work any better than the regular soap. and while the hand sanitizer worked, it required at least 60% ethyl alcohol.

Just thought I'd let you know some more info:  The main ingredient in this sanitizer is Thyme  Oil.  Thyme Oil is made up to 54% of Thyme, which is an antiseptic.  It is also the main ingredient in Listerine, which our Dr. recommended gargling with every night.  He told us that any virus living in our throat or mouth would immediately be killed!  Sounds effective to me!

Ok, I'm sure you're right on point. I just wanted to give you a little more info about the product.  It's up to you what you use.  You questioned its effectiveness, and I thought I'd add in what more I knew about it.  These products, whether liked or not, don't really effect me on a personal level.  If I see comments which I can add some light to, then I post more.

I didn't know that this was designed for someone with an immune disease, but I definitely knew it was designed for someone with kids! And not because I read that, but because it's SO EASY. This has been on my kitchen counter since the day I got it and it will stay there until it's gone. (luckily, I have a cute little travel pouch of CleanWell that comes with me!) I LOVE that it's a spray. If anyone out there has successfully taught their just barely one-year-old how to hold out his hands, wait for the gel, rub it vigorously and then patiently wait for it to dry, you are a FAR better mother than I. A little squirt on each hand (front and back) and a quick rub from Mom and my little guy is totally sanitized. You can barely feel this stuff but are instantly left feeling clean and normal. No sticky-ness, no dry skin and no leftover gel rolling down your arm into your sleeve. Unfortunately, I got the unscented version and it smells kind of earthy...almost like oregano? Weird. I would bet the other kinds smell great though. I might try that next. Luckily, the scent doesn't linger at all. This product is great, totally portable and perfect for anyone on the go.

I have used this and really like it, but I don't remember where I got it!  I am currently purchasing hand sanitizer by the keg and have considered drinking the stuff (how bad could it be with a little vodka and cranberry???) to keep me and my family healthy.  It wasn't sticky (most of the others aren't either if you rub enough) and did smell good.  I like the spray for accuracy.

i like the idea of natural cleaning rather than all that alcohol and stuff. i know it was terrible last winter when i would use hand sanitizer and then go out in the cold. BAD IDEA. i had to get a cream from my dermatologist. im blaming all the alcohol drying my skin, making it crack, and making it susceptible (sp) to germs.

I have never been a big fan of the gel sanitizers that give your hands that cold rubbing alcohol feeling until they dry. And then once they dry I always feel a sticky film on my hands. I would rather just use soap and water. This has always been a big problem with my two year old Bryce. Either turn the water on and play in it until everything is wet or let him do the gel sanitizer himself until the bottle is empty and he is crying for more. Who would have thought hand washing could be such a project?     When I received the cleanwell hand sanitizer I figured it would be another sanitizer that I didn't like. But, I became addicted. I keep it with me at all times. As a hairstylist I am touching people, there hair, combs, capes, chemicals, etc all day. I never really thought about it until recently with all the talk about the flu. I probably use it 10 times a day while at work. I love that my hands don't feel sticky after an it dries really quickly. The spray makes it impossible for my son to do it himself which is perfect. He can't push the pump down hard enough to get it to spray. I have also been surprised at how long the bottle is lasting considering I use it all the time. Mine is unscented which I like or a sanitizer. When I run out I will definitely be buying more. This is a great product that everyone should have.

Ohhh this sounds like a great brand. We are really limited for choice here with hand sanitizers, I have only seen two brands available and this one is not one of them. For the moment I am happy with my Aqium Gel but I can't say that it smells very nice. A little goes a long way which is great for my bank balance!!

Hmm, I'm so up in the air with this product so I'll list my pros and cons.  Pros:  all natural, pump spray (could be a pro or a con), left my hands really soft because there is no alcohol in it, travel size so easy to carry.  Cons:  no alcohol so does it really work?, pump (does it cover the surface its supposed to?), the smell.  At first I liked the smell but after it went on my hands, the only thing I could think of was shoe polish, thats just how it smelled on my skin.  So bottom line, would I buy this again?  Probably not but I'll use up what I have and make the decision then.

Once again I found a product I love. I agree, nothing is worse then sick kids-WELL except being sick yourself and taking care of sick kids!! This winter has been the worst I've experienced! I am also a hand sanitizer junkie and although I haven't had to resort to using a sock to wipe the cart off I have used a bib. The biggest pro for me is that Clean Well is a spray. Now I dont have to look for a wipe or a bib I've been just quickly spaying down the cart and the handles. I also love that its moisturizing because the winter months make it hard enough to keep your hands from peeling off. I also like that I can just spray my kids hands. I really like the smell too!

I am a huge fan of CleanWell hand sanitizer.   Hands-down, this product beats traditional alcohol-based gel sanitizers.  I am not a fan of goopy, stinky and drying sanitizers - YUCK!  The spray pump and hinged cap packaging is SO perfect and handy for this mom.   This bottle stays in my purse to spray everyone's (mom, dad and kiddo) germy hands when we are on the go.  I am trying my best to prevent the family from getting the nasty swine flu.  So far, no one in my house has come down with it (*knock on wood*).  I really like the subtle, herby scent -- much better than stinky alcohol.  I can't say for sure if this product is 99.99% effective, but I am using it as another preventative measure to ward off sickness.  It does not replace good ol' hand-washing, BUT it never hurts to use this product in addition to washing your hands many times a day.

I'm not a huge fan of hand sanitisers, to be perfectly honest.  I believe that many kids today are actually over sanitised and as a result their immune systems aren't nearly as hardy as those who came before them!  I don't see the problem in getting a little dirty and being exposed to some germs.  Don't get me wrong, I bathe my partners kids once a day and keep their snotty noses wiped and their hands clean after eating, but I just don't buy into the hand sanitiser hyper mania many have bought into.  If we were meant to be 100% germ free, we'd be in a bubble!  I don't want our kids getting ill, but at the same time when they do get ill I want their little bodies to be able to fight it off.  Just my 0.02c.

I am right there with you BabyLove, hand sanitizer is a great product.  I use it when I am unable to get to the sink and do the job right.  My husband, two daughters and myself do something very simple that seems to have all but eliminated colds in our home.  (In addition to hand sanitizer.) If we leave the house for any reason the first thing we do when we come home is a simple warm water hand washing.  We aren't obsessive about it but for some reason it works but you really mustn't get distracted, I think the key is going at it right away.  BTW, I love the way you describe your family and their antics it's so easy for me to visualize.  My girls remind me so much of your boys.

Let me start off by saying I am a hand sanitizer junkie... I buy them all!  My family always uses the foam sanitizers so when I saw the spray I thought what a great idea.  I sprayed down my hands and my daughters and was very turned off by the smell.  It was very earthy!  I loved that it sprayed but was worried that I did not have enough on our hands to kill the germs.  It does make your hands much softer than the average hand sanitizer but I just did not have the feeling that we were killing the germs like I get with the ones with alcohol (which is probably just in my head).  I am on the fence on weather or not I will go back to my trusty foam or continue to use up the bottle of Clean well.

I am obsessed with hand sanitizer. I work at a group home and they have the little dispenser thingies on the wall, and I think I got hooked from that point. Now I have bottles of Purell pretty much in every room of my house, my car, and a my purse. I totally love the idea of a spray on sanitizer though. Some of my clients have a hard time rubbing their hands together and I could totally see where a spray would come in handy. I'm definitely going to check this out.

I work in a hospital and use hand sanatizer 20+ times a day.  I wish my hospital could find one that was moisturizing because it destroys my hands during the wintertime.  Its funny because outside of work I rarely use one.  I just wash my hands at appropriate times.  Just remember that hand sanitizer is better at preventing certain illnesses than others.  It isn't very effective with the flu virus because it is an airborne virus.  You are more likely to catch the flu being in the room with someone who has the flu and coughs than by shaking someone with the flu's hand or touching an object that they touched.

I really like this alot, its small enough to go right in my purse, but big enough to not get lost in there.  The smell is not too overwhelming and does not last like some other name brands I have tried.  I don't like using the other "non-Natural" ones since they dry out my hands sooo much, and I read they are harmful for your health many times.  I like that this is natural and it leaves my hands soft not all dried out.  I would bye this again for sure.  I plan on it.  I like the spray better than a sqeeze bottle, it seems to last so much longer!!  My kids don't mind ussing it either, the other ones they always hate...so for me this really works!!

I'm a little obsessive about hand sanitizer because I work with kids. I usually use the non-antibacterial (antibac is not necessary, just plain alcohol is fine to kill germs) kind. However, this winter weather has made my skin so incredibly dry that I've been sanitizing and then moisturizing like crazy--how nice would it be to have a product like CleanWell that sanitizes AND moisturizes?! I've seen this product around, so I'll definitely have to pick some up.And PS. I totally agree about the kids letting the sanitizer drip off their fingers! Drives me nuts.

Ladies and Gents, I was raised in a household that was pro herbs. Eco friendly pesticides use plant oils to kill bugs, real ones. Eco friendly house cleaners use plant oils to clean and kill germs. If a house cleaner uses plant oils to kill germs and clean, why is it so hard to believe that a hand sanitizer can do the same thing? We're programmed to believe that if there is no alcohol it can't work. I do not believe this bc I know plants and I know a certain plant was used thousands of years, probably before alcohol, a plant that is used in most Eco friendly products and ayurvedic and Greek cultures as well as many others: Thyme. Thymus Vulgaris is a natural antimocrobial and antiseptic. It is used in most cultures. Here is what I found from Cleanwell site and it makes sense to me. If you're not comfortable using a product w/out alcohol, that is your free choice and I respect that. However, do the research for yourself. Please don't think just bc there is no alcohol it can not work. Cleanwell uses Thymus Vulgaris: a natural antibacterial and antimicrobialAloe Leaf: to condition the skincitric acid:antioxidant benign cleaning agent Orange Oil: essential oil and smells goodCopper PCA: a natural occurring mineral in the skin.

I totally agree. Essential oils are so effective and are used in so many cosmetics and cleansers. In my opinion plants and flowers are just as effective as what is NOW known as traditional antiseptics and antibacterials. As with any product you have to find the right formulation for you.

I would much prefer natural hand sanitizer i hate the other kind, i find it really drying and also feel that it cant be healthy really. But i still use them, nice to have an alternative if it works .

I hate the moisturizing anti-bacterial gels, they make my hands feel so gross! This stuff sounds great, I love to hear of an anti-bacterial spray that does not have alcohol or other toxins. Essential oils/plant oils are so wonderful, I'm glad to hear of a company with good reviews that make a product like this.

Sounds interesting.  I've heard about this line before, but haven't tried it.  I'm definitely a hand sanitizer junkie.  Back in the day I use to buy all my hand sanitizer from B&BW, and now I buy most of mine from Victoria's Secret.  I have used all sorts of brands in between as well.  I kind of always question the effectiveness of its germ killing potential.  But germ killing isn't exactly why I use hand sanitizer in the first place.  I use hand sanitizer for the clean feeling it produces.  I can't stand the feeling of my hands being dirty.  For example if I eat a sandwich, change a flat tire, etc then I want my hands to feel clean.  For example I recently  changed a flat tire.  I was no where near a gas station and I was very tired.  I needed to get home asap.  And my hands and arms were full of black tire junk.  I was so glad to see my Victoria's Secret hand sanitizer in my car.  It got all that black stuff off, and left my hands and arms feeling very clean.  I'm not really sure of the effectiveness of any hand sanitizer to kill germs, but to get your hands and appendages feeling clean I give it a A+.  I would like to try the cleanwell soon.

i'm all for organic/all natural products. nowadays, there are so many chemicals that cause irritations to the skin and its nice that there are more and more organic products out there.

I love how all the hand sanitizer companies are now benefitting thanks to the recent H1N1 hype. But I appreciate organic/natural stuff.

I'm quite obsessed with alcohol and sanitizers but using natural oils to sanitize my hands is quite intriguing, especially with the arguments Melilala and Eileen brought up.  :)

This is such a good idea! Esp. with the whole h1n1 scare I've been using a lot of hand sanitizer lately...and getting dry and cracked hands! Disinfecting with plant oils seems too good to be true!

I'm also skeptical of a hand sanitizer that lacks the key ingredient of alcohol - no, I don't think it's the best for my skin, but at the same time it's the only thing I can trust to make sure my hands are CLEAN. I usually use Bath & Body Works' pocket paks. They're nice, smell good, and work.

I am 18, and I always get to much hand gel! It gets all gooey and weird. You have to find someone to take the rest, or spread it somewhere, or sanitize your whole arm! Not even going to lie, I would be a lot better off with that spray!
