BEAUTY COMES FROM WITHIN! NO, REALLY!
Hello ladies, Eleni here!
How many times have you heard that beauty comes from within? Was it usually coming from your mother's mouth after you just complained to her about your acne/weight/bad luck with guys? The timing when that phrase comes up is always kind of fishy, right? I mean, if beauty really came from within, how come your mom never tells you so on the days you look your best? How come you've never heard "oh my gosh, you look fabulous today! It must really be coming from within!"? You know the answer. It's because "beauty comes from within" is code for "don't worry that you look like crap, maybe someone will be able to see beyond that".
Here at megsmakeup.com we say that beauty comes from within bottles, jars, compacts and tubes. Recently - and even though we love remaining highly cynical when it comes to the "beauty comes from within" motto - we have come to realize that sometimes beauty acytually does come from within. And I'm not talking about seeing your ugly friends as pretty ones just because you love them. I'm talking about seeing your hair shine more after you start taking vitamin E, or noticing a difference on how much your skin shines when you put some lemon in the water you drink every day.
We've been experimenting a lot lately. We've been trying different kinds of vitamins, we've been giving the raw food diet a chance and we've been doing research on dietary supplements that promise to enhance the way you look - from within. Beauty companies focus more and more on what you choose to put inside your body in addition to what you choose to put on your skin. We've been so impressed by the results that we are considering including such reviews on megsmakeup.com. but only if you want us to. You see, it has to come from within.
Are you ladies interested in finding out what the deal is with all these products that work inside out?
Is there any specific product you have already tried and was impressed with or that you'd like to try?
Let us know and we'll make it happen for you!

I love the thought of products that work from the inside out. I notice immediately, how my skin and nails aren't the best when my diet is lacking or I'm under stress.
http://ediblelove.wordpress.com/
I'd also love to learn more about what products and substances really make a difference. There's only so much you can do to the outside to try to cover up or make a change for the short term. I really think for most issues (be it skin, hair, teeth, etc), it takes something internal to work from within, instead of trying to penetrate from the outside. I've heard that drinking ACV helps the skin immensely.. but I can't get myself to do it. Maybe some new breakout discovery involving the consumption of chocolate martinis in relation to improved skin tone will be made soon.. hell, I'm more than happy to conduct some research on my own for that one!
I would love to read about what you guys are trying! I have adult acne and I feel like the only thing that will make it go away is a drastic diet change (but I love chocolate and junk food SO much). Maybe if I knew exactly what foods helped which skin/hair condition, I'd be more likely to stick to something.

I've definitely noticed that my diet and lifestyle has a huge effect on my appearance. I would love to read about the 'inside out' products.
i dont know y ill used almost anything externally but im super cautious about beauty products that work internally. it makes no sense given the crap like sodas i consume. i need to give this more thought.

YES! Bring it on. I definitely believe that in the body, a lot of external problems are caused by internal issues. This new set of posts would be awesome.
Its a basic thing - eat well and you'll feel better inside and out. Plus a little exercise doesn't hurt! I'd love to read some reviews about things working inside and out, it seems like it'd be a great set :)
I agree with all the other girls. I know that my diet plays a lot into what my skin is doing. I would love to hear about new things that will help me work at a better self starting with the inside. Great idea!
I know how huge diet can be on a persons complexion and overall beauty. I hope I can improve my dull complexion by eating more fruits and veggies.
As a girl who changed her body, her health, and her life via her diet,I am all for nutrition and health as it relates to beauty! :)Sounds fabulous and I'm excited to see what's to come! I don't eat wheat, sugar, meat,or dairy and can tell you that in the pasy 2 years since I started eating this way,I weigh much less and look a lot younger...works for me! Bring it on ladies!
Absolutely! Let's hear more about how what we eat/drink affects how we look/feel. That's where it all starts, in my opinion. Thanks!

Drinking green smoothies changed my life, so I'd love to hear more about "inside out beauty products".
OMG...that would be so awesome. I love to try things that are healthy. I eat ground up flax seeds to help with digestion etc, and i try to do colon cleanses at least once a year--bc that is supposed to clear toxins out of your body which is supposed to help us look better. I also drink nearly a half gallon of water a day (with lemon). I love to hear new and interesting ways to take supplements and differing foods to help our beauty regimens. Can't wait ;)
I'm absolutely interested in the ways we can help our beauty to shine from within! I'm a big advocate of vegetables, fruit and water - oh my gosh, water is absolutely the most important ingredient to my beauty regime! Without it my skin is dry, tight, porous, covered in blemishes and generally dull in colour. When I drink my several litres a day I feel more energised, my eyes shine and my skin is healthy and actually glowing! I can't wait to read all about what you girls have been doing behind the scenes. : ]
ELENI! I JUST LOVE YOU! You always make me smile even when I know you aren't even trying to. I love this idea. I'm real hard on my body so I could use a massive change but frankly I need to learn what's out there before I can even suggest a product or idea. But, I know this would be a hit. A real double whammy approach to beauty, count me in! I might even consider cutting off my addiction to sugar, wait, I'm getting the shakes just thinking about it......

This is such a fantastic idea!!! i've always been a little bit of a health freak, and is constantly catch up on "You are what you eat" it freaks me out a little bit but on the other hand i know i'm doing justice to my body. I've never tried any supplements but i would love to hear about them!

i think this is a great idea, it's good that everyone knows the type of things they can do to benefit themselves and their health.
I would be very interested in vitamins and different diets what everyone thought.
interesting article!and beauty from within... such a long process...and minimal things too..like shiner skin? why would i want that if my skin is naturally oily?
I've been doing a high-protein, low-carb diet and oh my! are my nails growing in fast and strong
Fabulous Gigi! I hope to hear lots more from you on the amazing properties of vitamins! ♥
I'd love to know more about products that work from within. I notice a big difference in my skin if I don't eat properly or drink enough water.
http://www.beautifullyglossy.blogspot.com
Yes definitally!! I take a multi vitamin daily, but there are SOO many brainds and supplements for this and that and how do you figure it all out!Help us out!

YES! I want to hear more and learn more. I love blueberries. I have about 10 bushes in my backyard. They are delcious. I have always loved good cherries about about ANYTHING. They make me feel so good after eating.
I love this idea! I am so interested in the connection between what you take in to your body and what it does to your appearance. I take vitamins for "skin, hair and nails" but I never know if I look better for it, or just the same. And I always wonder about "Glowelle" and those other products, if they really make a difference, I'd buy them, if not, I'd like to know that I'm not missing anything.
The whole idea of eating well, drinking water, taking care of your body and you'll be more beautiful within is pretty obvious to me. I tend to think that products that work "within" are mostly a scam, a lot of things just contain ten thousand percent of vitamin whatever, but maybe I'm just insanely cynical ;)
I love researching these type of products, it's sort of a hobby of mine. (nerd alert!) My family and I are vegans (no meat or dairy) and Gluten-free (no wheat). Regardless of weather you have a restricted diet or not, good intelligent diet choices and supplements make such an incredible difference in your appearance. The very, very best thing I can suggest to anyone is to read the book: "Skinny B****" (I don't know if I can write that word on here?!? But, yes, that is the name of the book). It's a short read book that explains this exact beauty topic. It was on the NYTimes best seller list.
I think this is a great idea. I know when I don't drink enough water and eat poorly that my skin suffers the consequences. I would love some suggestions on vitamins or foods that improve nails. I have terribly brittle nails that separate and break. I feel like I have to be lacking in some vitamin or mineral. I am veggie and really do eat a variety of veggies, fruits, and proteins, but my nails are still a mess. I would rather fix them from within than constantly be buying nail products that waste my money and do nothing to solve the problem.
I'm definitely down for reviews on "inside-out" products! Most of what I put in me isn't so great lately, so some tips on things to work on that will actually affect the outside might do me some good!
When I was growing up instead of pepto bismol we got gentian tea, instead of actifed or benadryl we got fenugreek tea, Irish moss tea, or some other concoction of herbs and teas. We always had the books "back to Eden" & "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" and prevention magazine. Now that I am some what of an adult LOL I subscribe to consumer reports both on line and the magazine. I think being able to gather information and bounce it off of each other about what works, the pros and cons of different things will be beneficial for our health and it will be fun to learn from each other too. We will all get to know each other better too.Yes. The more information the better!!
I tried a product called Skin-Tini that I really liked. It had all kinds of vitamins and supplements in a powder form that you add to water. It tasted great and I saw a big difference in my skin, but it was WAY to expensive at $80 a box for a one month supply. I would love to find something similar for less money.
I would also love to hear more about products that work from the inside out.
Yes, I would want to read articles on this. It would be interesting to find out what works for what and if people have success with it. I think it would also encourage us (or at least me) to live healthily. (:
This all sounds very intresting to me.Ive always wanted to know what works and what doesnt-I'd be curious to know if spiriliuna and blue green algae are really as good as everyone says, ditto the drinks cherryactive and mangoseen and beauty drink glowelle.Personally giving up wheat has been a revelation-the whites of my eyes are whiter,my skins better and my immune systeam is way better.Ive always meant to give the raw food diet a go-doesn't seem to have done demi any harm.I'm also really curious about CLA and if you can get a vegetarian version.

I take a vitamin that's specifically for hair, nails, and skin. It has biotin, B, C. I see more of an impact on my hair and I believe it really works!
I would love to read more about such products. Vit C tablets worked wonders for me. My diet is kind of "well balanced" -high protein, high carb, low fat, lots of fresh veggies and fruits... I need to eat a lot to prevent my self from losing weight and I think my body is not absorbing what I'm eating. I don't like drinking water even though I know how vital it is for living well. Not all good stuff are good for everyone -- like I can't drink green tea as it makes my stomach feel weird. So reading about what works for others would be interesting -- just have to remember the golden rule that results might differ on different individuals. :)
I'm interested in reading some reviews. It's very true that what you put in your body effects the outside.Have you guys tried/heard Glowelle Beauty Drink Mix? I have some, but haven't use them yet. It's suppose to help with your skin.

SO true, I can tell that I am not eating correctly or enough by the way that i feel obviously and how i look, my skin gets rubbery and flakey of coarse with a lack of water and my face breaks out when i am eating bad foods, greasy stuff and sweets. I love love LOVE eating healthy because the foods are great and he rewards are even better!

I was recently in the hospital for a couple of days and didn't eat for like 3. My hair started to fall out like crazy. This is evidence that what we eat does affect hair. I would like to know what kind of vitamins would work to promote healthy hair growth.
I've been going to a nutritionist and feel like improving my diet has really helped how I feel a lot--less tired and draggy! (He's having me eat a lot more protein, more fruits and veggies, and portion control). And when I feel better, I'm more inclined to work out, and I feel like I look better because I feel better. All the beauty products in the world can't help if you're too miserable, or angry, or worn out.

I try to be super careful about what goes into my body, b/c post cancer there are so many things my body can't process well anymore and it causes several side effects. I would still like to make a major overhaul on my diet and daily habits though and based on all the amazing things I have learned here for my skin, makeup tips, hair, etc. I know that the result is going to be fabulous! This is something I feel really passionate about anyways, especially after learning that anything that we put on our bodies is in our bodies within 15 minutes. So, all lotions, creams, foundation, etc. is absorbed and can make you look great but be wrecking havoc on your insides! And most lotions and creams are full of fillers, and most products that are purchased in drug stores or over the counter are more filler than not. Worst part! The fillers that are the cheapest and most major brands by are animal by-products, aka ROADKILL!! I personally feel sorry for the animals I pass on the side of the road :( but I don't want to be rubbing them into my skin and eventually process through my liver or something... yuck! I know that Arbonne's huge claim in all natural and they use absolutely no fillers that are not 100% botanical. This means their product isn't cheap but you're paying for the quality and also "health" of the product. I do like that idea and ise Arbonne products for body when I can afford it, but their skincare line did not work for me. I'd be interested to see what other skincare products you find that share this mantra. Thank Eleni!

LOL! Seriously, I think it would be great to have a beautiful from within section cause we need all the beauty tips and advice we can get!
I would love to see reviews of things you found effective- i have to say that since taking cod liver oil capsuels daily i have noticed a real improvement in my hair and nails and obviously we all know that drinking lots of water helps ur skin (and the rest of our bodies) i will start putting lemon in my water for this glow-never heard of that one before, more tips please! xxx
I make sure I have a full blood panel and complete check up every year because of my past family history. So far everything has checked out well and I plan to keep it that way in any possible way I can. I was told by my doctor at my last check up that my cholesterol level was up and I was surprised because I'm not overweight, I don't and didn't eat a great deal of junk food and wondered why it was borderline. He stated that it could be hereditary as well. I immediately made the decision that meat was out of my diet forever. I have been a vegetarian since. I was never a big fan of eggs either so I had no problem giving those up. I do eat fish once in a while. I eat it for the Omega III fatty acids that we need for our body and it's great for the heart. I have been working out since I was at least 18 years old, so it's pretty much been a part of my life for quite some time. If people choose to eat meat, that's fine. That's a personal choice that everyone has to make. I made it a number one priority to watch everything I eat, work out and '86 bad habits out of my life for good. I don't smoke, I can't even be around it. I used to smoke occasionally years ago and I read many articles, along with many warnings throughout the years how bad it is for you and I never touched one since and never will. The smell of cigarettes make me sick. I do drink red wine socially. I don't really care much for hard liquor. When I gave up meat in July of '09, I never looked back because there are so many great substitues and I feel better. What your body has to go through to digest meat is not good. I don't want to gross anyone out and I'm not an extreme activist trying to make everyone see it my way. Everyone makes their personal choices as to what they decide to consume in their systems. I understand that and it wouldn't be much of a democracy if we didn't have choices. I'm just stating through my personal experience with the changes I've made in my life, it's all been for the positive concerning living healthy. It hasn't been easy at all. I basically had to force myself at first because who doesn't love a good steak once in a while. Believe me, I know, but the benefits far outweight continuing eating junk food, which is nothing but empty calories, and my love for animals also made it a moral obligation as well. I haven't been doing this for a very long time and this will be my first Thanksgiving without eating any turkey. There are other substitutes, so I'll give it a go. I truly feel animals should not have to suffer because people can't find other alternatives. I look at it this way, working out brings out the feel good endorphines that we need to ward off depression, bad moods and to give you an overall feeling of well being. This I can definitely testify to. There are times when I have to drag myself to the gym because I'm just not in the mood, but there has never been a time that I regretted it after a good work out. Totally and 100% worth it. As far as changing my diet, I no longer do the fast food thing because most of it contains meat and unhealthy chemicals in the food that we don't need. They pump cattle and chickens with so much junk that your body is taking it in as well. There have been many studies that stated that people who strictly eat meat, no vegetables or fruits, anything with antioxidants in their diets are high candidates for cancer. It's the growth hormones as well as many other chemicals that are fed to these animals strictly for the consumption of humans. I have since educated myself on the subject and I'm very happy that I made the decision. We have one life, one body to take care of inside and out. It all counts. We have to take care of ourselves to perform at optimum level. If you don't have your health, than no amount of money in the world would matter. It's as simple as that. These are the times that we have more information on health and well being than we've ever had in many years before. We all need to educate ourselves about our health, know your body, know if something is wrong and address it with a doctor if you feel there is something wrong. Don't ignore any kind of symptoms and blow it off if it can save your life. If you're not comfortable with the doctor or their diagnosis, get another doctor or a second opinion. Don't feel intimidated to do so. It' your health we're talking agout. It's about being the CEO of your body, your health, your well being. It's worth it. Prevention takes precedence.

I'd love to hear more about these products. And I definately believe that beauty comes from within. After I started drinking 8 glasses a day, my skin is softer and healthier looking.
What a grea idea!!!!I would love to see more on this in the future. We are already trying so hard to be more beautiful on the outside and it would be nice to get a boost from the inside too.I have been suffering with acne for ages (13 years) and I do think what I put into my body effects that. I try to drink a lot of water, which helps alot. (it would be nice to see what could help acne, from the inside)

I would love to hear about it all too it's a brilliant idea, as they say you are what you eat !!!
Sounds like a great idea!We are always so focused on covering our flaws, and doing what we can on the outside, why not try fixing where it really matters?!
Would love to hear this kind of review! I think it would really provide a complete beauty picture :)
