ANYONE ELSE SUFFER FROM BAD DARK CIRCLES? ANY ADVICE?
BabyLove here! I'm not really "blessed" with any fantastic feature. My hair is thin, my butt is big, my left eye is slightly smaller than my left, I don't have great teeth, or beautiful lips. I'm totally imperfect, and I can accept that because most of us are. What drives me insane, though, are the dark circles under my eyes. Having them for as long as I can remember, I have yet to do anything, aside from apply concealer, to try and fix them. Even after eight hours of solid sleep, I still sort of resemble a dead person.
"Hey, are you sick? You have really bad dark circles under your eyes?"
"No."
"Hey, do you have a black eye?
"No."
And my personal favorite: "You should go to the bathroom, your eye makeup is halfway down your face."
"Halfway down my face, in a perfect circular pattern under my eyes? That's some pretty impressive eye makeup."
I know the people who ask me these questions aren't trying to be mean, BUT I just sometimes want to punch them in the face for implying that I look AWFUL. I'm not a violent person, but I try not to go around pointing out everyone else's flaws.
My ten year high school reunion is coming up in a few weeks!
I'd really like some feedback from any fellow zombie look-a-likes who have tried a product intended for dark circles, and have seen results. Please help save me from the Q&A about the mysterious black shadows on my face!

wow, it's like you're describing me. I have crooked eyes, a huge rump, and panda circles. I combat them in several ways none of which is perfect or successful, but it makes a bit of a difference so I don't get those "you look so TIRED" comments that just make me want to cry Avon Lighten Up eyecream - maybe it lightens up, maybe it doesn't, but it's smooth and absorbs well, and at 37 I don't have many lines around my eyes, and I've been using it for about 15 years.Yellow mineral powder mixed in with face lotion - I pat this around my circles to disguise my blue circles. Lavender-colored powder works if your circles are brownPearly mineral powder dusted on top of all that to reflect light. Kind of like YSL Touche Eclat but at a tenth of the price.I'd be REALLY interested to hear other suggestions too just in case any of them work for me.
Hi! I have a product that worked well for me. Meladerm - civant skincare. I read about it a while back from a fellow Megs: 'Imbucalo'. (by the way thank you Imbucalo, what a life saver you are for reviewing this). I gave it a try and after about a week I saw unbelievable results. I tried other brands of this same type of product and nothing comes close (Jan Marini and one other brand I forget). After a while you don't have to use it everyday, just maintance. At first I went ahead and got the whole system (but that is kind of expensive and you really don't have to do that). They are all good, but now I only reorder the eye cream and my love...the basic pigment reducing complex. http://www.civantskincare.com/products.html Hope this helps. Good luck!
I've been wondering what to do with these dark spots on my face (forehead and near ear area) that appeared after having a baby. Apparently, sun spots show up later in life, and after pregnancy. This product looks like it lightens sun spots AND dark circles - I need to check it out! Thanks!
Everyone is different - I don't know if what works for me will work for others. I, too, have had problems with dark circles.I found that the following have helped:1. Diet. I avoid dairy and processed stuff. Seems like they aren't as bad if I eat lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats and avoid alcohol and carbs. Drinking lots of water helps, too.2. Less is more. The more I try to conceal, the worse it looks. Heavier concealers just don't look right.3. I have oily skin so if I plan to wear any eyeliner or mascara, I need to go waterproof with the mascara and use powder liner - otherwise I smudge and look like a raccoon. DO NOT USE POWDER. It only seems to darken and draw attention to fine lines.Favorite products: Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Eye Serum. It seems to brighten or lighten the area and makes the skin seem healthier. http://www.lauramercier.com/products/skincare/treatment/eyes/flawless_sk...Sisley Eye Concealer. It's not cheap, but lasts a long, long time. I only use a little and use it on the inner corners and just beneath the eyes. It can attract attention to fine lines, so avoid the outer eye area. http://www.sisley-cosmetics.com/?page=produit&type_categorie=maquillage&...Good luck!
I'm sure you're gorgeous, but anyway, I really don't have any great tips, but the best I can offer is to add a little bit of white shimmery shadows into the corners of your eyes. For me, it makes me look more awake and my circles less noticeable whenever I don't get enough sleep.
I don't really have this problem (although I have plenty of issues of my own), but I know the girls here will help you find a great solution. Good luck, and I know you'll look amazing at your reunion no matter what!
My friend has moderately dar circles under her eyes and she used the strivecting and was impressed with the results. Very spendy... but its suppossed to work!

I feel your pain. I too have bags and dark circles. I've posted here on Meg's looking for what has worked for others. And I've tried some of the suggestions. I have a drawer full of concealers. Some work better than others but what I've learned in my 58 years is that everyone is different and every product works differently on every person. Sooo, as sure as there are so many helpful ladies here on Meg's, what works great for one may do nothing for you. I'm afraid one simply has to keep trying different products to see what works best for you. Good luck!
i hate how uneven my skin is but i just cover it all up. i wish there was a permanent fix but since it's in the eye area, im not hesitant to try a bunch of different things.

BabyLove, honey I definitely feel your pain. While I don't always have dark circles from hell I sometimes do - especially when I haven't been all that good to myself and have been scrimping on the fruit, veges and water. Hangovers are the worst for causing these for me!! 1.Prepping this area with a silicone based primer is the perfect start. It helps smooth out any wrinkles and lets the concealer adhere to your skin. 2. The area under you eyes is darker than the rest of your face, so to counteract this you should try a concealer that has a peach undertone. If you have really dark circles you should go a shade lighter than your skin tone, without going too too light. A creamy consistency works best for under eye circles because it’s moisturising and provides good coverage. 3.The best tool to apply your under eye concealer is your ring finger. Using your finger instead of a brush helps warm the concealer so it applies smoother. The ring finger uses the least amount of pressure which is important when dealing with the sensitive skin around your eyes 4. If your having trouble with your under eye concealer creasing, sett your concealer with a translucent powder.
I have hereditary dark circles, no amount of sleep, water, fresh food and any other healthy thing has helped me. They do make them look a little lighter but they've never gone away. People ask me those questions ALL the time! The one thing though that has helped me conceal is a peachy pink concealer. The aim is to *brighten* not lighten. It makes them look invisible, so I am happy with that and just learnt to live with them.
Here's some info I found:http://women.webmd.com/features/banish-the-bags-under-your-eyes?page=3

I have really bad sinus problems so I get dark circles really bad when I am congested. (the tender skin under my eyes bruises from the pressure, since I bruise very easily as well) When I am having a day like that I use Almay's Bright Eyes eye base + concealer. It is really thin and smooth and blends easily. It helps to brighten the eye area, and leaves a smooth canvas for an additional layer of concealer to really cover up those circles. It may not work for you as well as it does for me, but its under $10 everywhere, and often on sale, so its worth a try.
Love and Lipgloss,

I have the same problem as Nicollback, where the only solution is to conceal them. At the moment the best combination I have found for them is to first use a yellow concealer to brighten the area, and then to use a peachy concealer to cover them. Good luck in finding a product that helps you
I have moderately dark circles and I saw a youtube video recommending pink based concealer for dark circles. I have been using Philosophy hope in a tube eye cream with EDM pick me up pink with mineral foundation over it with good results.
I tried EDM's Pearl Pick me Up under my eyes and then I saw a photo of myself with...pink circles. I went back to Sunlight and Pearl Beige after that!!
urgh tell me about it. i got the bad genes from both my parents.. the undereye bags from my dad's and the dark circles from my mum. it's terrible!!!i've tried a lot of home remedies.. the cold spoon, tea bags etc... my friend told me to sleep with an extra pillow.. i'm not sure whether that worked or not but i imagined that my bags got better..i've also tried my mum's gariner caffine roll on.. most useless product ever! complete waste of $20!!so all i can do is make sure my body is fully hydrated, dont' stay on the computer for too long and get enough rest. then let my concealer do the magic, i use everyday minerals fair concealer, it seems to be doing an ok job, the area under my eye gets quite dry sometimes so thick cream concealers will just make it worse. I've also noticed that if i wear black eyeliner under my lashline my undereye bags would be less noticable. Oh and edm's aussie perk me up is alright for brightening up undereyes too :)

Hi BabyLove - I see and treat this condition daily in my office and I have hereditary dark circles so I can really empathize! The top three reasons for this condition are (1) it's inherited (2) it's inherited and (3) it's inherited...then, of course, other factors can worsen the appearance as we age (chronic sun exposure, not enough sleep, diet etc). I would not spend money on gimicks and products that over promise and under deliver. Lightening the area can be achieved with the right combination of ingredients (I use Retin-A and Vitamin C mixed with botanicals to potentiate the result while minimizing irritation to the delicate eye area). "Bags" can often cast shadows making the darkness appear worse. In this case, don't let any products fool you. Bags require a surgical approach (a blepharoplasty) wherein the fat under the eye is transposed or removed and the skin is tightened. Alternatively, a less invasive approach I use a lot is to inject a dermal filler or even your own fat to even out the area under the eyes if hollowness is an issue. I also use lasers to lessen the "purple" color caused by veins visible under thinning skin. I would recommend getting a consultation with a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon to see what factors are contributing to your specific condition. Meanwhile, focus on keeping your skin healthy (avoid sun, use antioxidants and other collagen producing ingredients) because, ultimately, healthy skin looks good! I hope this helps...Dr.D
Wow, Dr. D! You actually replied! Thanks for all the helpful info. Really enlightened me!

I have terrible undereye circles too. Some good concealers I've tried: Cargo blu ray concealer and Kat von D tattoo concealer. I apply both rather thickly and don't spread them out too thin. It took a bit of practice, but they both have decent coverage and only crease a little. A bit of Benefit Eye Bright might also help on the inner and outer corners of your eyes :)I've also heard that Bobbi Brown corrector in salmon/peach(?) is really good at hiding dark circles.

BDK - the idea of using tattoo concealer is GENIUS. SUCH a good idea!!
I have almost tried everything. Lancome, benefit... Lemonade, Clarins, Bobbi brown, the list goes on and on. Then this last weekend tried Laura Mercier concealer. I know... I've mentioned it a few times on here...it's just that i'm so pleased with the results. Ladies, try it. It works.

All of these tips are great! I too suffer from hereditary dark circles and haven't found anything that gets rid of them. My favorite concealer is Bobbi Brown's Corrector, it's magic stuff. I use that and then apply concealer over the top and my dark circles are magically (if only temporarily) gone.

I find that moisturizer is key, and my under eye circles are blue/purple. I find that Yellow/yellowish and sometimes a little pearlescent yellow concealer work best for me. I switch it up based on how bad they are heheI use Everyday Minerals Sunlight Concealer, Pearl Sunlight and Aussie Perk me up but I am sure any yellow will do :))adding a bit of a pearly concealer will help to brighten your eyes by reflecting light back to your eyes to brighten them.
I also agree with Champ (Gigi) about the oil. I have found that Joining of Herbs toner (yes I know that is my favorite product) works the best. I do not have bad dark circles but this stuff cleaned them right up and I think maybe the vitamin C in the vinegar did it. My niece has very dark circles that she inherited my several of my aunts and she found this same toner really was a great help. For under $7, it is a steal. Of course there is shipping, but then you can order their face wash and body butters to make the shipping "cheaper". Good luck.

I don't suffer from dark circles under my eyes, so unfortunately I can't offer any tips. :(
My Beauty Blog:http://www.glam-morena.com/
I dont' know what to do to eliminate them, but I'm pretty good at hiding mine...I use Physicians Formula Gentle Concealer Stick -Yellow. And yes, it's YELLOW. It's like a Butter Crayola. But..something about the yellow that neutralizes the blue in the dark circles. I use that, cover it with some concealer in my shade and they are gone. Even on my worst day, they'll barely show through.
Okay, first, you are too hard on yourself! Meg would never have a sister who isn't gorgeous! I feel your pain about the circles. (and the butt, actually). The only thing that works to cover them up, for me, at least, is to use 2 shades of concealer, a peachy-yellow based one first, then a much lighter one on top. I find that just using one shade does nothing at all. And after trying every product on the market that promises to reduce lines and circles, I find that the most I can hope for is a slight improvement by using pretty much any decent eye cream. Right now I like Philosophy, but that will probably change once I see the next big thing out there. Also, if you take a white pencil and draw a line in the corner of your eyes (inner corner) and under your lower lash line, you really do look instantly more awake. Think Blake Lively from Gossip Girl, she really knows how to work that white liner.
What works for me: (1) Silk Naturals Sleep in a jar light peach concealer - it's a salmon peach powder. Very light, and contains silk powder. Does not settle into the fine lines around the eyes. SN also has the original yellow powder, extra light peach, and medium peach. (2) Eye acupressure massages -- If your dark circles are due to poor blood circulation, you might want to try this method by ettusais (a junior makeup brand by Shiseido). I didn't use their eye gel and still get some results (be very gentle, don't pull your skin!): http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R4RWmGnuLvU/SXh-ebu5ozI/AAAAAAAAOJo/HGwA3tE0JAw/s1600-h/DSC09846.JPG or demo by a youtuber: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI5cjSlPU-w (3) Heat treatment or interchange heat & cold treatment (cold treatment is esp good if you have eyebags too). (4) Talika eye detox contour gel. Works fantastic for me, esp when I use Talika's regenerator night mask eye contour cream at night. Pricey though, for just 0.063 fl oz of product... And, I just googled this: http://www.naturaleyecare.com/pub-darkeyes.asp, hopefully useful for you!
Hey Babylove,I totally feel u. Im of Middle Eastern background..I have big hazel Almond eyes..with dark circles all around. Up top and underneath!! I hate them. Ive worn makeup since I was 14. Before I got married(8yrs ago), I went to a Cosmetic Surgeon..I was like if MJ(may he rip) become all white, cant you just zap these pesky lil things under my eyes?? No..but u r beautiful, he says. Anyways..Ive bought and tried everything; herbal, prescriptions, advertised, recommended. Ive spent a lot of $, and been disappointed far more. I can tell you I prolly have the darkest circles ever. What honest to God works for me is Everyday Minerals(I shud get paid, hehe), their Peach corrector which is dicontinued-boohoo:( along with the Abbotts perk me up is sent from God, I swear by it. I moisturize, monistat primer..and my EM's. try it. By the way if anyone has any peach corrector they dont use..holla plzz!! Take care much Love XoXo
It really depends what colour circles you have, and is it a problem with backs and a big dent/bulge or a problem with colour?! I know a load of trick that have been tried and tested on my sisters ever so stubborn under eye circles so if you can be specific with your issue i can tell you which trick would best suit you! my sister had found benefit erase paste to work best for her blue under eye circles (but i used a £2 concealer stick and my nifty tricks and it worked just as well if not better) guest book me if its easier and i will reply! x
backs??! i meant bags!!! lol!
hmmm, my mom started using that vitamin E cream by jamiesonand she was actually really surprised that it worked to get of the dark circles and fine lines from her eyes
I am only 15, but I inherited extremely horrible dark circles! Use NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk pre concealer. Trust me, it is HG (and soo affordable!). Available at ULTA.
I'm a sufferer too. Still haven't found any possible way to fix it... it's a nightmare really...@@ My circles are too dark even MAC studio fix concealer can't hide it...gosh!
I am glad to know I am not the only imperfect woman out there. I too have slightly different sized eyes and a large rump. I also wasn't blessed with my mum's large rack. I have really dark eye circles but I haven't found anything to solve theprolem yet. I have been using an eye cream by Olay recently. I has reduced the darkness a bit but they are still very dark.Good luck in your search.

I have dark circles undereyes and i have to use so much concealer to cover it. I bet you theres a simple cure but i wish there was a permanant fix.

What really works for hiding my under-eye circles is putting my glasses on. Anything I put under my eyes last just 3 to 4 hours, when I get back home they're dark again.
I don't have dark circles under my eyes but i know a lot of people who do.They cover them really well they use MAC studio concealer it covers everything. I also think putting a lighter power under the eyes will also help to mask the dark circles.
Tulipana, I like your glasses idea. It would sure save on concealer and eye cream. I like Boscia AG eye cream; it's a gel and very soothing. During the day, I use Neutrogena 3 in 1 concealer, which acts as an undereye cream, concealer, and has sunscreen too. It's a drugstore bargain and often on sale.
Does anybody use or know if olay or garnier fructis eye products work??? I just bought the eye anti puff roller but have not noticed it working yet.
An update: My niece has very dark circles under her eyes. I sent her Joining of Herbs Chamomile cleanser and their toner. She called all excited that for the first time ever, no dark circles. She is 25 and has oily skin. I have been using Kumaara's Illuminating Eye creme and I suggest giving that a try. I find it to be okay if you are diligent about using it. I still think most dark circles are caused by sinus problems or allergies. Maybe those with bags and circles should try an antihistimine before bed? If it worked, great, if not, you didn't spend a fortune.

When I get less than 6 hours of sleep (read: every other night!) I get puffy and purplish circles under my eyes. I've tried the frozen tea bag method and it works slightly well. I use a peach-toned concealer to cover them up!
Sorry i don't suffer of dirk circle !
I have the same problem and even a Chanel eye cream that I got on Fashion Night Out... BUT nothing really works for me except for changing my sleeping habits (and some really kickass concealer)
xoxo
I use an EDM concealer that is a mix of peach and yellow. It does a great job to cover my purpley inner corners and the blue veins on my lids. It also seems to brighten the under eye area. I really like it and even got my mom using it. I also got her a pearly pink one for a little more brightening effect and she is really happy with them.
ColoreScience "My Favourite Eyes Cream" is the thing for you! It has a yellowish shade, so it covers (very slightly) and gives your undereye skin a glow and heals the darkness with time.
I would normally apply something similar to YSL's Touche Eclat, this will brighten up the area and with a bit of concealor and finish it off with a powder that's a couple of shades lighter than your original skintone to further lighten this area, works for me.
hmmm not so much for dark circles perhaps but really good for puffy eyes...Liz Earle Eye Tonic. it is amazing stuff! :)
