LIPSTICK QUEEN! MEDIEVAL-TINTED TREATMENT!
Kellie76 here! The Brothers Grimm exquisitely described Snow White as having, "skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony". I don't know about you, but I have longed to recreate this look of ethereal beauty for some time now. But I have never felt like I was able to truly find the perfect red to achieve this look. I know that I am not alone in this crimson quest, as there has been some chatter on the message board lately on this very subject. I am very pleased to say that the very generous Cheryl at Lipstick Queen sent me a tube of Lipstick Queen Medieval-Tinted Treatment to try and help me find my inner Snow White.
According to the company, "Lipstick Queen is going back to Medieval Times. When full coverage lipstick was considered a sin. Instead, women used lemons to stimulate the lips and stain them a see through blood red."
Poppy King, the genius behind the Lipstick Queen line, created Medieval-Tinted Treatment, in order to recreate the classic look of these Medieval beauties without all of the hassle. Medieval is a lip tint made with vitamin E. It feels so silky and smooth when it's applied. I find it to be very comfortable. The color is amazing. If you have ever feared to wear red, then this product is for you. I have a feeling that this color would be flattering on all skin tones. I also imagine that it would morph ever so slightly based on your natural lip color. This is not an "in your face" red. It is very subtle and classic. With my fair coloring, it comes across as a very pretty cherry or berry shade. This product is very appropriate for daily wear. But if you want to achieve a more dramatic evening look, you can easily build the coverage with layers. As for staying power, you must realize this this is not a traditional lipstick. It is more like a lip balm. But I will say that even after the moisture faded, I was left with a pretty tint. The packaging for this product is also amazing. The tube is a beautiful crimson color, with classy gold lettering. It also comes uniquely packaged with a fun and gorgeously designed tarot card. I swear that I can't bring myself to throw it out. The bottom line is that Medieval is an outstanding product. It is both beautiful and easy to wear. I highly recommend it, whether you are a red lip expert or simply a novice. Watch out, Snow White! Medieval has certainly made my fairy tale come true.
Would you like to win Medieval? Thanks to Cheryl at Lipstick Queen, one lucky reader can win a tube of Medieval.
Just tell us your favorite fairy tale heroine and what beauty trait of hers you would love to achieve.

Sounds awesome. I want a red-but-not-so-in-your-face, lip color.

i'm intrigued by there story i plan on looking them up maybe they sell them nearby
This color did not work, at all, on my warm toned, light medium skin (MAC25). In fact, I have a difficult time making the majority of the Lipstick Queen products look decent on me. The only successes I've had were Saint Red (a sheer, neutral red), Big Bang Gloss in Infinite (shimmery, sheer peach) and the Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Chase ( a gorgeous, warm watermelon). Everything else was kind of meh. My favorite fairy tale heroine? Rapunzel! Gotta love a fellow, long haired blonde. I only wish I knew what conditioner she used on her hair to make it so strong. Lol!
Yay! The review is here! I've had my eye on this for a long time but I never took a bite out of that apple. Too afraid it was poisoned - not worth the money. You've already mentioned her and the trait I want! I always wanted to look like Snow White. It was exactly the "skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony" that I wanted to have so badly. I naturally got the dark hair (not quite ebony but dark brown) and the pale skin (which I try and keep fair) but my lips always disappointed me by being more of a pink. I wanted red lips but the red lipstick I tried was not only a thick and gritty formula but just screamed 'LOOK AT MY RED LIPSTICK!!!!' and not 'Hey you. Yeah, you, Mr. Prince. Look at my red lips. ;)' You see the difference? The search for my prince continues (I considered lying dead in a glass coffin in a meadow but didn't think it would work out as well for me as it did for Snow White) but perhaps the search for a perfect Snow White red lip is over?
I was super excited to learn that I won the contest and I couldn't wait to get this in the mail. I got it just in time for the holiday season and wore it several times. This is what I found: It is phenomenal. I LOVE it. I give it a five/five. Like Kellie said, it's perfect if you're a red novice and I think it's perfect if you've worn red all your life and are looking for a different red experience with this unique finish of 'my lips but redder." Color: It is such a perfect red. On me, it's a true cherry. It's also a bit of a chameleon. I wore a true red shirt and it looked cherry. I wore a more Merlot colored jacket another day and it seemed to shift in color a bit to go with the jacket. Cool, right? It has great color payoff and it's sheer but totally buildable. Application: It just glides on. Completely smooth and buttery. Feel: Since it's mostly vitamin E, it does not feel like lipstick, more like a balm. It really doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything but I've got this great tint. Wear: Really good (for a tint). Final thoughts: I felt a little like Snow White wearing this. :D This is definitely a luxurious item and super high quality. The care and attention to detail and love put into this line is obvious. Miss King got it way right; she really knows her stuff. It was just as great as promised and I will definitely purchase more of her line in the future. I'm so happy I got a chance to try it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
High five to all the ladies who sport the red lips, and warm welcomes to those who dare to try! Lipstick queen sounds very appealing, a subtle red for every day wear, something I'd like to find and try since my shades of red are rather bold, and it would just make me all the happier to be able wear it everyday without wondering if it's just too much. Well, I kept thinking of fairy tale heroines and I couldn't remember any of them that were describe as acutely as Snow White was. Nevertheless, my favorite heroine is sleeping beauty. At 16 she was pricked by a pinwheel and put to sleep for 100 years before a prince came along to wake her. That makes sleeping beauty 116 years old, drop-dead gorgeous in her sleep, and not a single wrinkle on her face! Now that is a trait that I would love to achieve, to grow older without looking older, ever.
I have been looking for a shade of red that wouldn't make me look like I belonged somewhere other than my desk job. LOL. All the ones I have tried always make me look terrible thanks to my pale skin with pink undertones. All of the products look great on the website and I have already sent the link to my bf so maybe he will get the hint. My favorite princess is tough to choose from. I love Cinderella. Who wouldn't want to have a fairy godmother and wear those beautiful shoes and gowns. At the same time I also love Jasmine (Aladdin). She had those gorgeous exotic looks and had long flowing hair. Maybe I can be both? LOL. Thanks for bringing light to this product kellie!
Oh gosh, this product looks absolutely stunning! Maybe it could help me have those 'fresh bitten' blood red lips of Snow White I've been lusting after for so many years? Being a natural dark brunette [so close to black but not quite there] red lips tend to really pop on me! I've been searching high and low for a long-lasting, beautiful quality red lipstick that is comfortable to wear and won't flake or bleed off my lips! This sounds worth trying. :D Thanks, Kellie76!
I've considered this line, have heard some good things.Little boutique in San Antonio carries this line now and am going to check it out asap,I need to see these reds I think? I love the website and I think she's got it goin' on in the lippy dept!I am a big fan of the "Little Mermaid": you get the benefit of sea-water and sun all day,you get to lure men onto the rocks to their demise if they piss you off,and you have a GREAT excuse not to have sex with someone if you don't want to because...well...you're just a little lacking in that respect BUT,you still have fabulous bewbies and hair,LOLROF!
PS - If anyone's interested, these are available in Australia at Kit Cosmetics!!
From the site FAQ's:
I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND WAS A BIG (STILL AM) FAN OF POPPY & THE LIPPIES - HOW DO I PURCHASE THEM AS THEY ARE NOT SOLD IN OZ?
Thank you for your loyalty to Poppy and lipstick! The lipsticks are NOW AVAILABLE!! They are being sold at the Kit / Meyer stores in Australia www.kitcosmetics.com
I haven't worn a true red lipstick in ages. They just don't look as pretty as they used. I think it is because for so long my chin kept breaking out. Now that I finally have that under control, maybe (hopefully) this is the answer to my sad little non-red lips. Can't wait to check this out. As a little girl I used to LOVE Betty Boop. Something about her lashes, lips and beautiful dark hair really struck me as beautiful. boo-boop-de-boo-boop....(or something like that)
I love lip tints. I'm not much into lipsticks because I can't keep them up through out the day, I do my make up in the morning and that's it no touch ups. As far as fairytales I think of halloween and getting to dress up like one. I would do snow white since I have dark hair and would love to talk to animals and have them help me around the house.
Letita
My favorite fairy tale heroine was always Sleeping Beauty. I though she was the prettiest, and I loved the name Aurora. Her long, full, flowy hair is something I still wish I could achieve without it being a frizzy mess!
Great review, kellie. I love the Queen's colors, but I haven't yet gone Medieval on my mouth! If I had to pick a favorite fairy tale it would be Rapunzel, because I would give anything for such strong, long tresses. I think my favorite product as Rapunzel would be Moroccan Oil, for extra lustre and shine, plus a Mason Pearson brush for a good grooming. Only problem is, I'd need at least two handmaidens to help me keep my long, long hair in proper trim. I'd never manage it on my own.
I like it and love lipsticks..
I Have This and I love it, it goes on smooth as silk and the color is "just enough". It keeps my lips moisturized. I've been using Poppy King's lipstick for several years. I have used both the "Saints" line and the "Sinners" line. They last a very long time and they go so nicely.Poppy King also has a book out about her and her quest for the perfect matte lipstick, its an interesting read. If you have never tried Poppy Kings lipstick your missing out on a treat! Try It You'll Like It.
I've always wanted to try this line. Each time I see a blog reviewing something of this line, I get a little sad, haha. I live in the middle of nowhere and haven't been able to find a counter near me that has these. I adore the packaging. I've hear mostly good things about the product, plus, I am dying to find a red lip that isn't too pin up, in your face kind or red, and I think this one sounds fantastic.
My favorite fairy tale herione has always been "Snow White". It's also one of my nicknames. My Daddy always called me "Snow White" or "Miss Scarlett". I even have a "Snow White" collection. Our voices are very much alike. Mine is very tiny and when sales people call they always think I'm a little girl. Then they ask to talk to my parents & I tell them their not home. I'm just waiting for CPS to show up at my door one day. lol One time my co-students surprised me with a "Snow White" theme party and a "Snow White" cake. It brought tears to my eyes. They were so sweet, especially since it was my 28th Birthday and not my 8th. The beauty trait I would like to have from "Snow White" is to have a white/ivory complexion again, instead of my current red polka-dotted Rosacea skin. I've always been a lipstick queen (it's an addiction) and my top three favorite reds are "Ruby Woo" by MAC, it's a beautiful red with blue undertones, "Scarlet Sage" by AVEDA, it's another incredible blue red and the other is "Love" by Ultima II a fabulous blue red. Red lips have been my signature since high school.

this product is packaged medieval to the bone!lets see.. my favourite fairytale heroine is tinkerbell mainly because she always wear those adorable fluff ball slippers!!! But also for the fact that she always have a nice healthy glow, which is something that i lack, i can pile on as much shimmery powder it'll either look dull or turn me into a glitter ball, i guess i still haven't found the right product yet.. We always strive for elements we don't have.

my favorite disney princess is ariel but i dont want to copy her look. this is only my second time hearing about this line. the first was their lipstick pencils which looked cool but were more than i wanted to pay for something i might not like.

this sounds so awesome lol...buuut i dont know if red or anything red-like would work with my complexion so well lol
I love Medieval and I couldn't throw out the packaging either! I was so excited when Poppy came out with her new products, they're even better than they were the first time around.

Oh, this is perfect! I used to wear stains that really dry out my lips and left it with uneven patches of color. I couldn't achieve that "just bitten" look but with this I'm sold!I have always admired Jasmine because she is strong willed. Her exotic features made me appreciate my own features because I am exposed in a world where Caucasian beauty is the standard to live up to. I am of Asian descent and I am proud to be an Asian beauty! I also adore Jasmine's long, luscious dark hair and since cutting my hair recently, I wish it would grow back fast enough!
I'm always so scared of red lipsticks, but this looks like a great shade. I love the packaging too, very cute. I've always liked rapunzel, because I've wanted long hair (not that long) but not blonde, but in my hair colour
I love red lips. Sometimes on my way I out the door, I lose my nerve and end up wiping it off because I'm afraid to really go for it. I'd love a nice subtle red that's not so "in your face."
I NEVER wear red lipstick, I hate it on me! lol Good luck to whoever wins. :)

I always wished i could look like belle out of beauty and the beast! (of course shes the best looking thats why its called beauty and the beast) and she was so sweet! (and when the beast transforms into a man at the end i always thought he was hot stuff! =D silly i know as he is a cartoon character, but what can i say my childhood crush was bart simpson!!!!! =D =D lol!!!!!)I dont think she had one trait i wish i could achieve but would be fab to be known as "beauty" and she turns heads everywhere she goes in the film! p.s dont tell anyonei fancied bart simpson thats for meg heads to know only! ;)
I would love to try this color. I look better with some color on my lips. If it's a little too intense, I just blot it down so it looks more like a stain. When I was little I loved Cinderella. I guess I've always loved makeovers....and she went from drab to beautiful. The scene where she walks into the ball looking drop dead gorgeous was great!
I've heard about this lip line before and good reviews. This is something I NEED! I've never ever found a red that has looked good with my skin tone and I tend to always wear a neautral lip shade because I think my lips look scary with a dark color lol argh!! I'm a huge fan of lip tints though but really unimpressed with the over the counter, like Covergirl, options. If this is a tint that works for everyone, creating your perfect red so to speak, then I'm sold. Thanks Kellie

I like the way this sounds. I have wanted a red lipstick forever, but they always look so rediculous on me. I have very fair skin and the matte bright red just seems to take over my whole face instead of flattering it. I woud love to try this. I like that it's more sheer and that it's a balm. (and I learned a bit of history). My favorite heroine is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She has such a natural fresh face but she is the most beautiful woman in town (and she doesn't even try). I think it's her sassiness that I admire most. She isn't afraid to say what she wants to say and she knows exactly what she wants in life. I think that quality in itself makes her so beautiful.

I've never heard of this line before, but it sounds great. Red lips are gorgeous, but I never manage to make my lippie stick, it just wears off unevenly.I don't have a favorite fairy tale princess, since I love them all. Ariel's beautiful, red hair has always been something I envied though.
Love Lipstick Queen....Cinderella was always my favorite....but beauty wise Snow White has a great description.
This sounds great...in theory. I can't pull off red lipstick! Something about my skin tone. Anything with a hint of red or pink and I instantly look orange. Either the makeup takes on an orange tint, or my skin does. It's pretty frustrating! And for my favorite fairy tale character...It's Cinderella! More so now that I am a Mom. I see her in a whole different light. I used to just love the whole 'nothing by day, glamour by night' thing, but now I realize what she really goes through! All day, working and slaving, no fun, no beauty, no one to talk to, no one appreciating her, and those damn mice who clearly AREN'T helping her. It's like being a Mom! All that work and the little bugger still wipes his nose on me while grabbing a fistfull of hair and yanking on it. But...then she gets her moment. A brief encounter, a new pair of shoes, a beautiful dress, and a kickin' updo. She loses herself in the dancing and gets to forget her world. (otherwise known as a really good date night, haha). In the end, she still has to take care of everything, but she'll always have that awesome pair of shoes... :)
My favourite beauty queen was always cinderella.. how fun to be transformed from a dirty maid scullery with scraggy hair and smell clothes and the next instant all gorgeous and perfect.. wow what a nice girl too, so down to earth. lolthis lippy looks nice, but i have such thing lips:( try not to draw attention to them, though sometimes i draw around them with a nude liner trying to make them bigger.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I have been searching everywhere for a really good true red lip balm, without success. I cannot pull off red lipstick AT ALL, but I love red lip balm. I got one as a gift a while back, and I lost it & cannot remember what brand it was, but I have been searching for a replacement ever since. Most others that I have tried are a little too sheer.. I'll give this one a try and see how it works out.
Definitally sleeping beauties HAIR!!! Lol her hair is so long and curves into gentle loops near the bottom. And so much body for her length!!! lolI like the thought that this is more of a lip balm, its less scary in my opinion, yet im not sure still about the whole red thing. Im not fair, far from it so it would just look so wrong!
Tan is Love
personally i like snow white / rose red. They are very McGyiver-like, using what they have handy to overcome adversity. They are smart and intellegent - qualities I want my dd to admire.
My favorite fairy tale heroine is Snow White, because I probably look most like her, and would like to look most like her! Most of the fairy tale girls are a little too wussy for me though--I love MuLan because she kicks butt (ok, she's a Disney character, not a fairy tale character, but close enough).
♥ Lipgloss and Spandex: a blog for gals who look good and run fast
After reading the review I would really love to try this, I am very fair so I try to stay away from red in fear of looking too over the top... usually I go for a more natural look. This looks like it would be perfect for a night out on the town though!
Packaging looks gorgeous.. for me, packaging sells me 50% of the product ;) I've been dying to wear a red lip out, but haven't got the guts to yet! And still trying to find that perfect shade of red.. I've always admired Belle - she's got all this velvety brown hair and huge eyes. Would love to pull off her fresh-faced look!
I've wanted to get this just for the packaging, it's beautiful.I love Snow White 20's look, big eyes, white skin, little red lips. But I'm more like Sleeping Beauty, not for the beauty part, but for the sleepy...I love red lips, every time I see a red lipstick I wish I had plumper lips.
This sounds like a really interesting product and I love the "story" behind it. My fave fairytale princess is Ariel. What I would do for that red hair!!!
great contest! Good luck to all who enters! I can't wear red lipstick -- it seems to emphasize my yellow undertones and makes my face sallow instead of brightening it up.
Like everyone else, I've been searching for that perfect not so much in your face red as well. I'm very fair with red hair and freckles so it's hard to find a good red, I really like that it's Vit E based. As for fairy tales...I was more into GI Joe, I was a total tomboy
i was dying to get my hands on medieval last year, but couldn't find it to try it. now my lemming is back! i've always loved the snow white look too; i think there's something very feminine about the contrast in color between eyes, lips, and skin, but maybe i'm just biased as a brunette who can't hold a tan. when i was little, my favorite fairytale character was ariel from the little mermaid. i loved how she was spunky, friendly, and wasn't just waiting around for a prince.
My favorite heroin is Rapunzel: I love the fact that she participated in her own rescue by her prince. As someone with thin fine hair, love the idea of having long, thick, strong bouncy locks of hair. How lovely to know that in a crisis, my hair wouldn't let me down!
Well since I'm a Chinese, my fav heroin is Mulan. She's tough and brave ! She has the natural classic beauty that I really like.
My favorite fairy tale heroine is definitely Rapunzel. She is gorgeous all around. But the trait I most admire of hers is her long, shiny, strong, luxurious blonde locks. For a few years now I have been growing out my hair to resemble Rapunzel's! I have started extra beauty practices on my hair just so it can end up like Rapunzel's. I started co-washing my hair, I started using heat protectant spray, I started using hair masks, and I started using leave in conditioners and serume....all just to mimic her hair. One day soon I truly hope to have Rapunzel like tresses!
This sounds interesting. Although I'm not sure I'd be able to pull off a red lipcolor. I have tried the "this red works for everyone" product before and it just didn't work for me. Perhaps I shall give it another try with this one.
I would LOVE to try this!!! I'm a sucker when it comes to tinted balms. I just bought this balm from Dior that starts off clear, but changes to give you a perfectly, pinkened pout. I also love Tarte's 24/7 lip balm/stains. My favorite is Saturday (a dark sheer red). A third tinted balm that I covet is Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Lip Protectant in Berry. As far as favorite fairytale heroines... Gosh, I really would have to think about that one.
