DO YOU BUY YOUR HUNNY HIS OWN BEAUTY PRODUCTS OR DOES HE USE YOUR STASH?
Meg here! When I was married I had a husband that never told me he was crazy for any type of beauty or cosmetic product. I would just notice that my Suki Scrub was running a lot lower then I remembered from my previous shower!
Megken wrote his deodorant post and I saw how many of you do share some of your beauty stash with your guy. By "Share" I mean-he steals it!
Megken has his Origins Spot Remover, Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner, and he is obsessed with his Dominica Original Bay Rum Aftershave Lotion. He loves the Dominica because it leaves his face soft, it's not perfumey and has a great fresh scent.
With the holidays coming up I have asked Megken to help! There are so many men's grooming lines out there now. If it gets confusing for us savvy beauty shoppers then it has to be completely bewildering for our average Joe's! I'll be getting stuff off to our Sunboy1 as well. I'll be dropping in some men's stuff to our regular women writers because I know they'll be able to get their husbands opinion as well (talking to you Sweetassguy and Stylepapa!)
Maybe your love isn't comforable asking you what type of creme would work for him? Maybe he thinks he'll look like a girlie man if you know that he's been wondering what the best hair texturizer is or how he can
help reduce eye puffiness (Megken likes No Old Bags Allowed.)
So look for Monday afternoons a "Manly Monday" where Megken (you know he is so excited he's going to throw up) will review a guys product and tell you whether he thinks it makes it under the Christmas Tree (it's Megken -I mean Menorah.)
If anyone will be able to really get in there and review these guys gifts it is Megken. He has been watching me do this for almost a year now and he is as (actually maybe even more) obsessed with you Meg Heads.
He reads each of your comments under his post over and over to me so I know he listens to what you ladies have to say!
So what do you think? Can we give Megken a shot at this? Do you buy beauty for your man? Will you be buying any men cosmetics for the holiday? Think this feature may be useful? Love Megken (say yes-he'll totally cry if you don't)

Nice topic! I can't wait to read Megken's reviews on manly products! I regularly buy beauty products for my dad since he's a bit vain and likes to look younger than he is. For my partner, I just buy him whatever is citrus-y at Trader Joe's. The body wash and shampoo is all he needs although some days he lets me smear my Avon Anew night cream on his face.
My bf isn't into beauty prducts at all, mine or his own. He uses Suave shampoo and some bar soap and that's about it. I've never seen him show an interest in my shower stuff, and God knows there's a ton, and he's never wanted any cool manly stuff either. He's an engineer and too practical, no fun at all in this regard.
Am I lucky cuz my bf doesn't really use beauty products except normal shampoo, hair conditioner and deodorant! Until sometimes I have to ask him to use my sunscreen during summer.
This is a great idea! I've created a monster with my guy, he's becoming skincare obsessed so I'd love to know what products to get him. He's not great at telling me what his skin is like, I think it's normal, but I'm not quite sure what will work for him and what won't. He happily tries everything I get him, he's got the whole routine down and will even his whole routine when he's staying at a friend's house.

What a great idea! I will certainly be tuning in! :) My boyfriend doesn't really take much care of his skin but after 4.5years he now washes his face with facial soap, uses a body wash for his bacne and most recently has invested in a moisturiser for his face with SPF.He does it reluctantly but secretly I think he likes it. He said he likes that I care so much about him to make an effort about how he looks, so there you go. I'm winning a slow battle! Haha.
I'll for sure be tuning into Manly Mondays. I so need ideas for gift shopping for the holidays =)
My husband is very concerned with his skin, and it was just after 5 years of marriage that I encouraged him to buy his own stuff, and to stop draining mine. He bought the men's line from Lancome (exfoliator, cleanser, and moisturizer), but thinks that his old friend Oxy does just as good as job. I would be interested in finding him a really great toner, especially one for him to use on the go, since his skin gets pretty oily. I think this is a great addition, and I'm not just saying that so Ken doesn't cry.
I must admit, I'm probably one of those ladies who don't know the first thing about what things to get for the men in my life when Christmas etc. rolls around. I mean, getting sweaters with funny prints on them gets predictable! So yes, reviews of products that work for men would be wonderful, so I can change things up a bit, and get some kind of idea of what kind of products might actually get used up instead of just piled on a shelf somewhere, collecting dust, since both father, brother and boyfriend feel bad about throwing things out.
If my husband even thought that his shampoo (Suave), body wash (whatever is on sale and he only just converted from bar soap), deoderant (same brand since I have known him) and shaving cream (hon, got a coupon?) were considered beauty products he would probably refuse to shower. He does get really dry hands in the winter and I bought him Anthony hand cream. He used it so sparingly that the tiny little tube lasted TWO winters. He treated this tube like I treat a beloved pair of shoes. So now I just buy him Neutrogena. On sale. With a coupon.
hmm this should be interesting :)this could be a nice turnaround of a christmas gift, than the usual clothes for my brother
FOR YEARS, UNTIL RECENTLY SEEING MORE & MORE MENS PRODUCTS IN THE SHOPPES", I SAID MENS SKIN CARE IS A OPEN MARKET, THERE'S A FORTUNE TO BE MADE THERE". I think it is wonderful that men can use their own products and still ride a Harley with out feeling girlie or Metro Sexual. LOLI am so happy MegKen is going to review the mens products. I have a husband, son, brother in law, son in law, father, father in law and grandson. Grandson is still too little for men products being he is only 16 months, but, it is still important for us ladies to get a mans perspective and know which product is a stocking stuffer and which product goes in to replace that HUNK OF COAL for the man that is being a jack ass!! LOL Of course after 12 years I still love my man and think he is "The Cats Meow".Megyou are truly amazing. I love your ideas and that you listen to your Megettes,MegHeads, (or Meg-alomaniacs)!MegKen, I am so happy you're on the job helping us ladies with a mans view - perspective, this will be a very Happy Holiiday Season. Thank You MegKen, YOU ROCK!
I'm with you Karen. If my bf thought any of the products he used were "beauty" he wouldn't use them. He's a lover of the Old Spice hair and body soap. He uses an after shave cream and maybe a hair product to spike what little bit he has every now and then. I've tried to get him to use a facial soap and moisturizer. That went horrible. I try to get him to use a hand cream because his hands are really dry but he hates the feeling they leave behind. The one thing I got him to try that he fell in love with was my pedegg! He uses it on his dry chapped hands. LOL. Sometimes I wonder what goes through his head. I would love to hear what Megken has to say, though. Maybe I can sneak something in that he will actually like. Best of luck Megken! I can't wait to hear more from you.
it sounds like a great idea, I can't wait to see the reviews
Sounds good, I can't wait to see the reviews. I have no boyfriend, or hubby or brother LOL and I know my dad wouldn't be soo keen on stuff like this. Should be interesting to see a guy's perspective.
I would love to hear about products for men! My hubby has learned how much I love shopping for anything bath & body related. So much so, that when he needs a new razor, shaving cream, even deodorant, he lets me pick it out for him! It is kind of tough getting him to do anything extra though like moisturize his face, heck, I can't hardly get him to put lotion on his hands even though they are so dry they are cracking inbetween his fingers. Weird thing though: he loves it when I put my cuticle cream on him and fix his fingernails for him. So I would love to read about other products that might help him out and that he might actually use!

That sounds like a great idea! My boyfriend of 7 years wouldn't use so called "beauty products" but he does like to use my lotion but wont if it smells like a girl he says.lol It would be cool to see whats out there for him.
I am very excited to read Megken's reviews! It's great to have a man's point of view and his writing is terrific. I do share a few things with my boyfriend. I keep him stocked with lux shampoos and conditioners for his hair. He has an absolutely gorgeous head of hair, dark and wavy with just a suggestion of gray starting at the temples (think JFK Jr.). Of course, like most men he was using Pert Plus when I gave him a set of Nexxus Therappe Shampoo and Humectress Conditioner. I told him to use a small amount of Paul Mitchell the Cream as a leave-in. He was hooked and his hair looked terrific, only now I had created a monster. Whenever he's getting low he gives me a sheepish grin and asks "hey, do you have any more of that hair stuff?"

Although we would never refer to them as "beauty products", I do buy my boyfriend all of his own products. But of course when he runs out & I don't realize it, instead of replacing it he goes right for my stash..
I do love megken and he WILL be very welcome and appreciated! I adore men's products as well and Mike is a bit of a 'ho: he has his full line of "Zirh" skin-care to use and also is a hound for "L'Occitane" after shave blam and I just gave him some Korres balm to try as well.He is concerned his ski is "gettin' beat up" as he calls it and has been known to beg me for a scoop of a miracle cream here and there as well!We absolutely need someone to shout out for the men!!!
Well I'm single so there is no man stealing my beauty products :p But my ex did use my shower gels and shampoos sometimes but he did have his own products (very limited amount though). Having said that I would not mind at all reading about products aimed mainly at men, I mean, who knows... perhaps I'm not single long (a girl can dream about meeting Mr Right, right? ;) ).
My husband Matt pretends not to care! But I always find him stealing my products! I feel a little badly asking him to leave the expensive stuff alone. I would love to have him try some men's products. But like many of you I am not well versed in the subject. I look forward to an education on the issue!
This is awesome. Three cheers for Megken, who will help us ladies navigate the strange world of men's products! I'm honestly stumped when it comes to that category of product. That Bay Rum aftershave sounds delicious! I might have to check that one out...
Oh it definitely would be helpful, I have NO idea what would work well for men, and I would love to make my SO use some scrubs or face creams.
Thank-you Meg, you're always thinking of us Megheads! Megken's new Manly Monday articles are going to help us out a lot - especially for the boys we have to buy for over the holiday season. I know there are only so many socks and jocks a guy can be gifted before he goes a little crazy.I have invested in my man's beauty regime. I buy him a 'kit' of some rugged [but soothing and caring] moisturiser, cleanser and shave gel every now and then when he runs out. I make sure the products don't talk too much about their amazing anti-ageing benefits too much on the front label as he will claim I'm trying to make him into a metro sexual. /Rolls eyesIn the shower I only leave him LUSH, so that's what he uses! I love having a sweetly scented man. >.<;
My boyfriend has his own facial care cosmetics. We share a few things like body scrub or body lotion.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS IDEA! Besides, real men want to look hot for their women and aren't afraid to use a product or two to help them achieve said "hotness". Brilliant idea Meg! Just when I think you couldn't possibly come up with any more cool ideas for the site, you amp up the cool like nobody's bidness! Megken, your writing style is the Yang to Meg's Yin. You are going to knock our socks off with your reviews. BTW, you can totally count on Stylepapa, he's got your back man! And, he uses all his own manly (sometimes not so manly) products to look his sexy best! Meg and Megken: feel the love, embrace the love......
This is a great idea. Guys use as much stuff as we do but don't admit it and I don't think they have as woderful forums as us. My guy does steal my stuff and then when it starts running out asks for more even though he never had permission in the first place. Love to hear Megkens point of view!! I also love giving gifts esp. clothing and beauty so this will come in handy.

Great Idea....I am constantly trying to get the men in my life to step it up. I've turned my brother but...need to work on the rest. I love giving my men facials, glycolic peels, and i always buy them something beauty related. Last year for xmas my father and brother both got kinerase starter sets, colognes, and the art of shaving sets (they are great). So i will love to watch this new day to see what i can buy this year. thanks for looking out for the men in our lives ;)
My husband enjoys getting facials...yup, it true! Now he won't go out to a salon to get one but he lets me do them. I enjoy doing it for him! Its really fun. He is an outdoors man, never used to use sunscreen but now he does, it wasn't a manly thing to do...but better late then never. I have to say I enjoy using his shower washes...I like the aromas and sometimes I like a "change". LOL I really enjoyed reading this post. I can't wait to see what megken lines up for us. I have 5 brother-in-laws that I am always unsure what to get them for the holidays or birthdays.
My guy doesn't use any sort of beauty products. He uses bar soap and regular lotion on his face. He does however love C.O. Bigelow's peppermint soap, though. I usually buy it when I'm in Bath and Body Works, but he's manly enough to purchase it himself if need be. :)
I'm so excited about this! I love, love, love buying my boyfriend new products to use and try out. I think I get bored of buying myself new stuff to try, so every once in awhile I have to try new stuff for him :P If I can make a request, do you have any recommendations for dry/irritated facial skin? Ilan has crazy dry skin and I have yet to find anything he really likes. Shaving irritates it even more, so I have to constantly listen to him gripe.
I have always found that either I am dating someone who is all about the beauty products, and use mine up while pretending not to care what they use, or they completely refuse to use them, and insist on keeping bar soap and cheap shampoo in my shower.
i have never ever bought my bf any cosmetic products, it's either clothes, dvds, games or action figures.. i know he can't seem to grow up, a mature 20 year old man still watching dragon ball z and playing with their figurines, i'm still dumbfounded. i guess the same applies for my dad, he whinged his way to a playstation when he was about 40 and persuaded me to give up my christmas money to buy a playstation game for his new playstation. He seems childish but he never go near cosmetics, the only thing he pats on himself is a bit of gel for his hair.. he's fairly masculine (bet you didn't guess that!) and not much of a "i take care of my self" guy... but he does use my chapstick!

I love reading Megken's reviews, so bring it on! I would love to hear what kind of products he likes or dislikes. However, this will be mainly for my imaginary husband. The real live one is a Dove/Head&Shoulders/Cortaid guy. JEEEEEZ! I have a medium store's worth of products for my own personal beautification and preservation, and he'd never dream of touching any of them.

woohoo! I'm in!

I totally support Megken! Gone are the days when men are afraid to try out products like these. I value a good man's opinion and I'll definitely recommend the products you'll review to the men in my family! :)
Ohhh I can wait to hear about some products for the guys!My man wears some after shave loreal stuff that i'm dying to upgrade to something nicer and yummier.I really want to get him some stuff for christmas!
My husband likes to use my shampoos and body scrubs. Most of the time I will hear comments like "my back sure is dry" about a half an hour before he showers. Then when he is in the shower, its "Honey, could you please put some of the (fill in blank) and rub it in my back" and of course when he is done showering, it is "Honey do you have any good moisturizing lotion for my back. Oh good, could you massage it in". I think he has me wrapped around his little finger.
I have never bought a bf beauty products. My boyfriend would use my lotion every now & then, but that's about it. lol

hello megken if you are reading this!!! =)my fiance is not into beauty products at all!! but i so want him to be so he can understand my obsession! he had bad skin as a teenager so now he just uses face wash in the shower and he wont dare use anything else (not even a bit of moisturiser) so i will look forward to these reviews for gift ideas that will get him sharing in my obsession!
Carly xxx
my fiance is so anti-product it's ridiculous. it'd be nice if i could find some things i could get him to use.
UPDATE: walked in last night to the smell of gardenias...there is a tub of luscious handcrafted gardenia cream on the small table by my "chaise" in our sitting room.I keep it there to smear of my tootsies and elbows while reading or watching a movie and it always makes me feel "nicer."Mike had apparently chosen to watch them blow up chit on the "History Channel" snoozing in MY chaise when I was out (a no no...long story but he opted for a leather recliner instead of an overstuffed chaise and regrets it,LOL!) AND also opted to slather the gardenia cream on his hands!!!He sort of panicked when he realized how scented it was and trued to wash it off (just like a guilty kid? :) and it was on the towels in the bathroomm just reeking away,LOLROF!!!Lesson learned: they WILL dip into a tempting pot if it's within arm's reach so make sure it's something unisex???? HAHAHA!
oh this story is hilarious! I actually wear Jo Malone's Vintage Gardenia cologne underneath their 154 scent and it's amazing! it just softens the spiciness and smells crazy sexy!

Oh my husband drives me mad nicking my products even though he has some already !!!!!
This is a great idea!!!My hubby is constantly using my stuff but he thinks it would make him a girl if he admitted it. I do all of the personal hygiene shopping and I am always trying o figure out what my hubby would like. (obviously anything in a pink bottle is out).I can't wait to see the reviews.

Such an interesting topic, (anything about men) and Lordy look how the ladies respond! We're lining up to talk about our guys. Unfortunately I dont have a boyfriend (a husband, yes), but I do have two handsome teenage sons who will try anything that smells good, or has creative packaging, just for fun. I've got them wearing cologne, using mattifying gel, and trying the latest organic body wash. Lots of things to add to that list. Sounds like fun.
Good job Meg with the review. I think this is also a good gift. The packaging is cool and the scent is great. I used to like to wear Halston but sometimes just having that cologne fragrance on my body bugged me. I like this Bay Rum because I just put a bit in my hands wipe it over my face and it gives me the zing to go out into the world. I don't smell it after about 2 minutes. It is product that isn't so common that everyone's uncle uses it. But the light scent and the clean feeling is worth the low price and one bottle should last a year or two if you don't spill or drink it. DON'T drink it, it's called Bay Rum but it is not for mixing with Coke. EXTERNAL USE ONLY!
What a great idea woohoo for megken! Yeah i love that my boyf steals my stuff, in fact i am always trying to put stuff on his face.. like this morning he had a small blemish and i was like ooh let me put some of my fancy cream on you, nope he wasnt having it. I did give him a honey and aspirin mask one time. I think it is a really fun bonding thing to do :)yay will look forward to that.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
When i was living with my ex I used to get SUPER pissed when he would use my beauty products!!!!yet he wouldnt let me buy him his own cause it was too girly. So I had to buy the lines that looked manly and tough!I think this is an awesome idea! attract more males to megs makeup!
Tan is Love
Great idea for the upcoming holidays. My Sweetassguy will be happy to share his thoughts. Right now his new fav thing is Tom's of Maine's Lavender bar soap. He loves it ALMOST as much as the Suki Lemongrass bar.
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
