A GLIMPSE INTO A MAN'S MIND THROUGH DEODORANT! MEGKEN AND DESERT ESSENCE TEA TREE DEODORANT WITH LAVENDER OIL!
Megken here- I have a problem with antiperspirant. When I was younger I used the white kinds with the aluminum in them, I am not sure what that is, I mean I know what aluminum is but not the version or form of it that is put in deodorant to stop you from sweating.
I always pictured someone grinding up aluminum cans into a powder and mixing it into my under arm stick. I heard many bad things about aluminum, like it causes Alzheimer disease. Eventually, I had to stop using it when I got little red itchy bumps. I developed some sort of allergy. That's strange because the only thing I know I am allergic to is penicillin.
I started using a deodorant called Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Deodorant with lavender oil. I like the smell of the lavender and I don't think it's girlie. Lavender is also considered in aroma therapy to have a calming effect, so I guess it's handy to have on my body if I get stressed out I can smell my pits.
Through the topic of deodorant, I have a relationship question. There are 2 things in the bathroom that to me seem to be personal items. The toothbrush and the under arm deodorant stick. At what point in the relationship is it okay to share these items? Do you share these with your spouses or boyfriends? I always thought my Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Deodorant with Lavender Oil was for a man. Then I saw my Beshert using it. I was, in my head, "she can't to that!" But it was because I recalled all those TV spots for Secret "strong enough for a man, but made for a woman". I thought, hey she's using my man-stick! Then I thought, "maybe it's not a man-stick but it's a gender-neutral-stick." (This was several months ago.) Still, in my mind what kept running through my brain was "Hey this is still a new relationship, you can't share that!" Those thoughts turned to- "wow she must really like me, she didn't even wipe it off first." Is it weird to think that sharing my man-stick is a sign of a good-trusting-deep relationship moving forward? 
Along the line of deodorant: Sticks vs. Spray vs. Roll-on, I never got into the spay, just seemed like too close to spray paint. I never got into roll-on's because that's what my mother uses. But the stick has always done well by me. I even keep one in my car and surprisingly enough even in the Los Angeles summers I have yet to find it in a pool of gunk on the carpet. It has a pretty high melting temperature. I have to write that it's hard for me to find the stick that I like and if they ever stop making this one I would be lost. I never had a reaction to it and I think I have pretty sensitive pits.
The market seems to be full of this product and how do you pick which is right for you? "Raise you arms if you are Sure." "Degree" "Old Spice" it's confusing market place. I am happy with the one I have been using but open to suggestions.
One more thing, when my Beshert gets stressed out should I make her smell my Lavender pit to calm down? What deodorant are you using?

Haha. I keep laughing at smelling your pits to calm down. What would people think if they saw someone smelling their pit in a stage of anger? Right now I am using Secret but I also love Dove. My boyfriend loves his manly Old Spice in After Hours. There is no sharing in our house. I'm too girly and he's too manly. LOL. I just don't see me walking around smelling like I fell into his pit all day or him walking around smelling like he's been in a flower garden.

I love your humor! lolI personally don't think it's ever ok to share your toothbrush with anyone...ever! I just find that to be gross. As for deodorant, I personally use whatever smells nice. (Right now that's Dove cashmere.) My hubby is using the Degree clinical strength deodorant because, well, his pits reek!!! In my opinion, that deodorant is the best thing I ever bought for him.I don't think my hubby would go for lavander scented deodorant though.
Great post. I kind of wish my boyfriend's pits smelled like lavender. He currently uses Old Spice in Pure sport, I think. I'm currently using Secret Fresh Effects in Orange Blossom Verbena. It smells great! I switch brands all the time though, I'm a big fan of Degree as well.
Haha, I don't think it would matter to share a boyfriends deodorant IF it was like this Desert Essence stuff, I like lavender and tea tree oil. I dont know when is a good time to start "sharing" these things since I haven't had a boyfriend for three years and so I think im on a roll with that, but I would refuse to use Old spice or something terribly manly like that. I don't want to smell too much like a dude. Right now I'm using Dove in this "classic" scent. I'm not a big fan of the smell but I'll suck it up until its finished. It smelled way better alone than it does on me, I dont know what thats about but maybe its like perfume and reacts differently to different body chemistry?? Which reminds me, I need to get over my fears of being hurt and get myself a boy toy.
I can't say that I am for sharing deodorants, but I do believe that men and women can use both men and women. For years I would buy a mens roll on because I have such a big sweating issue. But now I use Certain Dri at night and have a Rexona womens for the day - one of the ones where you don't get white marks apparently. Smell is always a big thing for me when it comes to getting a deodorant!
I can't imagine sharing a toothbrush with anyone, ever! My partner doesn't sweat under his arms so he doesn't use antiperspirant. I don't understand it, but whatever
I have been using Bubble & Bee Organic's Pit Putty for about three months now and I love it. It's USDA certified organic and it truly works for me. I have tried a handful of natural deodorants and they always failed to work. I feel way better about using an organic product that doesn't contain that nasty aluminum. I will never go back.

I never really liked the smell or tea tree oil, but still, this looks promising. I heard that the dove clinical strength deodarents are pretty good.
lol!i never share deodorant with my boyfriend, he stays away from mine and i stay away from his. but he does snatch my carmex and chapstick sometimes. i'm not much of a deodorant person, only in summer, i dont' want my sweat patch draining out. Otherwise i'm most likely to forget to spray before i leave the house.

Megken, I am right there with you, sharing your man stick is totally symbolic. It's the seemingly small, intimate actions that put to rest any lingering doubts you may have about a relationship. The simple things always pack the biggest punch. Since I have serious perspiration issues, I've often wondered what all that alumin-nim-inimin ;) is doing to me. Is it super dangerous and why does it keep me from sweating? I've tried all the natural brands and they never keep up their end of the deal. I'm so glad you introduced me to a new man stick, I can't wait to give it a swipe! (Of course, you had me at Tea Tree Oil and Lavender.) And, I don't share toothbrushes but I would share my pit stick with Stylepapa any day. Great review, it made me smile from start to finish. Put your pits in the air and swing them around like you just don't care............
Maybe you can get a lavender hand lotion. Instead of freaking out and smelling your pits, you can just moisturize.
I'm usually a Secret girl (Strong enough...) but this sounds like it's worth a try. I love lavender and tea tree oil. And if you think it works on your pits, then maybe they'll work on mine! thanks for introducing it to us. But please don't smell your pits in public! LOL

Hmmm. If everyone smelled their pits when they get stressed out, the world would be a more refreshing place with that lavender oil! I agree that your man-stick is more gender-neutral, and there's nothing wrong with her sharing your deoderant, I think it's a good sign. I used my bf's deoderant and occasionally used his toothbrush early on in the relationship and a whompping 1 year later, we're still together. I personally like his old spice high endurance stick, the smell is very subtle and nice.
Whenever I think of armpits, I think of the movie Superstar, starring Molly Shannon. She plays a Catholic schoolgirl named Mary Katherine Gallagher. She has the following line in the movie, "Sometimes, when I get nervous, I stick my hands under my armpits and then I smell them like this!" If I hear any of the following words, my mind thinks of that scene in the movie right away: stink, armpits, raise your hand, aluminum, antiperspirant, deodorant, nervous, smell, armpit hair, shaving, and on and on and on. It must be due to all of the aluminum I have absorbed in my armpits over the years which has affected my brain. Stylemama doesn't know I associate all of those things with that line in the movie, but she won't be surprised by it either. As far as armpit treatment goes, I have used all of them. Finally found a roll-on years ago with a higher amount of aluminum that worked well. But I didn't like the way it felt because my hair would get caught on the roller-ball. But then one day, when Stylemama wasn't looking I grabbed her.......Secret aluminum clear gel antiperspirant/deodorant of the clean powder persuasion. I have been hooked on it since. I have used this for the past five years or so. But now that Stylemama's eyes have been opened to a tea tree deodorant, I am sure I will see it make its way into this house. So I am sure to give it a try. Megken, your review was fun to read.

I kept cracking up at the thought of you calming down once you smell your pits ::flashback to Mary-Katherine Gallagher...:: I've been an unscented Mitchum man myself for going on 13 years but I think I might have to venture out and try something new. I already use lavendar baby oil gel to moisturize and help me calm down before bed so this will be a nice addition; not to mention the Alba Organics Lavendar Sunscreen SweetAssGal got me hooked on earlier this summer I should keep with the theme eh?

I have the Jason's version of this and I love it... and yes, my bf has been known to use it when he runs out of his "manly" deodorant. The sharing doesn't bother me as long as know about it and he doesn't leave armpit hairs behind ;)
Haha, hilarious review Megken! I sometimes get eczema in my armpits and am not sure why (maybe it's the aluminum? I've never thought I could have sensitive armpits!). But maybe this new deodorant will help.

Megken, I will have to buy this for my boyfriend. I love the smell of Lavender. Meg...to be called a "beshert" in yiddish means: You compliment him perfectly, and it also has the meaning of destiny. You two are adorable. Sharing the deodorant, I'm OK with. The toothbrush. Yikes! Let's just say my guy used mine the other night and even though I love him I wasn't pleased. ( It's also a sonicare!)

ive tried tea tree oil deodorant before,,,pretty much did nothing from me though. i use secret platinum in vanilla chai, smells nice and works for me :)
lol.. no!! never do that! I'm using Dove's go fresh in cool waterlily & freshmint scent. Smells really good.. comes in a spray can, and I think there is a rollon version too but I find roll-ons icky.. and dove claims to be the only deodorant with 1/4 moisturising cream... whatever, I just like the scent. I worry about the aluminium thingy but not enough to stop using the deodorant. hmmm...

One thing has always had me confused is why so many men do not need deodorant while every women I know does. My husband, son, father, brothers and all 7 of my male room mates didn't need nor wear deodorant. Anyone else come across that too? Me, I finally accepted I need a roll on. I tried Lush's various solid and powder deodorants and got burns under the pits. Solids leave me white, spray will destroy my already fragile lungs so back to the safety of roll on. I do try and go as natural as I can, but what works always trumps natural.No sharing of deodorant, toothbrush, underwear (yes a school room mate asked because her were all dirty) combs, shaver and my pet peeve using your used utensils to add butter, or other main dish items to your plate.

I love Desert Essence products, I use the jojoba oil from that line for just about everything. Their prices are great as well. Maybe I'll check this item out for my boyfriend, although I don't know if he would go for the lavender scent though..
uuugh, but tea tree oil has such a strong scent... I don't know if I would be able to handle it being on me, protecting against another stink :\
that is funny about the sharing stick thing, im always grabbing my boys one at his house cos i didnt bring mine by mistake or something! i have 2 kinds at the mo.. a kiss my face one and the big stone thing that you rub on, literally looks like a stone.They are both ok, dont stop the sweating though. I've been with my guy 4 years (2 of which we've been married) and would never share deodorant or a toothbrush with him! Yuck! I love him but don't want to put his plaque in my mouth.This deodorant sounds interesting, I've heard a lot about the negative effects of aluminum, but all of the aluminim free deodorants I've tried so far don't work.

You have me howling again. I'll admit it--my husband is an addict for deodorants and antiperspirants. I have to purchase several in advance to keep his OCD in check. We both use Mitchum roll-on because, as the ad used to say, you actually can miss a day and you're as sweet a newborn. I will also admit that, in a pinch, we'll share the same bottle. We were laughing last week and I asked him, "How did we go from your politely asking me to go to a concert to sharing personal hygiene items?" I don't know when it happened, but it's comforting. The romance still continues and I get weak in the knees when I look at his face. Megken, did you have an affair with Goddess Granny or not? Inquiring minds are waiting for more videos!

I don't like to share toothbrushes unless I absolutely have to. I'd rather not share sticks but always know when he does because he leaves a hair behind. Soo gross, but it's a good sign in the relationship. Esp. if she's using yours and by the sound of it your stick seems pretty gender neutral.

Haha, nice one! I think I've seen this brand at my local health store. I'll definitely check this out when I drop by. I used to use a stick but I hated that I had white residue all over my pits so I couldn't wear sleeveless tops without being conscious. I've switched to roll-on and I couldn't be happier. Sure it takes some time to try but I don't have to worry about those gross white patches! I'm using Nivea's deodorants by the way.
I tried this one and it gave me a rash I must be allergic to something in it :-(
I have to say that my husband (my very manly husband) loves the scent of lavender too. He uses the Tom's lavender soap now and doesn't think its girlie at all. Maybe this is something he should try too!Sharing deo and toothbrushes is very intimate. I would do neither unless it was an emergency. But...it would demonstrate an incredible amount of love and trust so I say take it as a positive!Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil works wonders too so this can't be far off. Miss you Ken...it was truly an experience to get to know you just a little bit. I know there's LOTS more in there to discover!

I definately agree that natural deodrant's are the way to go cause you read the scariest things about the regular brands.I dont think lavender is a female scent on itsown or with tea tree pretty unisex really.
