TARTE'S LIFTED NATURAL EYE PRIMER WITH FIRMATOL!
Sweetassgal here...laughing a little about Meg's description of the women who dress up on Halloween, and I have to say for the most part girlie nailed it! I, however, am one of those rare creatures who lays in bed at night for weeks prior to All Hallows Eve planning every detail of my costume and salivating over my pending trip to the fabric store for beaded applique and sequined fringe! Yes, I make my costumes and I LOVE dressing up (minus the tramp girl motif...I'll leave that to the Hollywood starlets trying to get on Extra's Fashion Police list) in the most elaborate costumes I can dream up. I have not missed, nor have I duplicated a costume in 35 years and I don't intend to. I will be 80 years old, dressing up like Greta Garbo in a silk dressing gown with marabou trim handing out candy to neighbor kids vamping "I want to be left alone!". But I don't...I want every little witch, goblin and three foot Spiderman within a twenty block radius to stop on by and raid my candy bowl!
For this years costume I went as a Flapper dressed all in black and white. Not original...I know...but it suited my mood and I was dying to try my hand at a really killer headband. I spent hours hot gluing satin roses, feathers, rhinestones and sequins to the coolest elastic I could find and I felt like the girliest girl in the world. And I for one have to say GOD BLESS GOSSIP GIRL for bringing headbands and girlie frill back! Now that my headpiece was complete I needed really my makeup to POP and turned to my latest offering from Meg to make it happen. Tarte's Lifted Natural Eye Primer with Firmitol was calling my name and was just the ticket to give my all black and white makeup the kick it needed for some true depth.
The first thing I noticed about Tarte's Primer is that it's incredibly smooth and silky. It really glides on effortlessly and doesn't pull at the delicate skin around the eye. This makes it easy to blend in and soften eyelids and underneath both with one product. I don't have dark circles but I do like to lighten the corners of my undereye so Tarte's was perfect for that. If it was a typical day just hanging around the house I could blend and powder this and give my eyes a natural glow without adding much more effort. But today is special and so is my makeup so no au naturale application for me. I'm going BIG with super smokey lids, high white arches, severely shaped eyebrows (which the Tarte primes just PERFECTLY to keep them right in place) and lots of black cats eye liquid eyeliner! I had eight full hours of wear in front of me so my primer had its job cut out for it.
Blending and shading was to be quick and easy. Tarte's Lifted dried in seconds and I was ready to bring on the shadow right away. This gave me a second or two to check out the "lifting" properties of the product. Made with Firmitol™, the proprietary firming complex helps tighten eyelids and the surrounding eye area to help give the affect of younger, smoother eyes naturally
according to the website and though I don't have many eye wrinkles or creepiness to judge it from I can attest that I did detect a noticeable smoothness that gave me a great foundation for beautiful application. My colors really popped and my peepers were SUPER spook-tacular! Sorry...couldn't resist.
I have been a consummate fan of a certain primer we all know and love and I'd have to say this stacks up well comparatively, with the added bonus of having smoothing and lifting properties. But the real winner here is the genius at Tarte with "skinvigorating ingredients" such as centella asiatica extract, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), ginseng root extract, high-performance naturals, portulaca oleracea (purslane) extract plus Firmitol all combined together in biodegradeable EcoPure green packaging. Not to mention they are fragrance, petro chemical, paraben, phthalate, gluten, GMO, sulfate, dye AND talc free! Imagine that...beauty AND responsibility all from one really great company. A tube of Tarte's Lifted Primer and a little Lights, Camera Action mascara and you've got a perfect pair of peepers...Halloween or Hollywood be damned!
I do need to mention I've got very oily lids and no primer I've ever used keeps ALL of my eye makeup in place and I always end up with a little line of it in my crease. Especially if I'm sporting a creme shadow that day but I can say without a doubt that NO primer at all is a mess...Tarte's Lifted Natural Eye Primer is a polished look for me and I was very happy with my transformation from Suburban Mom to Twenties Tarte! hehe...Tarte...get it?!?

I've never had an oily face or eyelids, but I do get a crease when using creme shadows. Maybe I'll try to swing a sample of this. Thanks for the tip, Sweetassgal!

I wonder how this compares to the ever popular UDPP? Could any of you ladies here do a comparison? :)
Not to UDPP, but to my beloved Kumaara, and I cannot say it beats that, but it certainly has its own charm and advantages. I like its no-tug-iness for sure, and the blendability is effortless. The color is a bit too light for me, since I am of the darker-is-better school when I'm in a coveruppy mood, but for lighter skintones I would definitely recommend this. And it's a neat fit in my makeup bag, so I take it on the go.
I didn't know Kumaara had and eye primer?! I'll have to try that too...that line rocks. Nina...I'll do a side by side tomorrow with UDPP and Tarte and let you know. I have both so it will be interesting to see!

Ack! I suppose it is a concealer, but I have been using it as a primer with great success ever since it came out. Mea culpa.
Joan- Great minds think I alike I am using it the same way.
I need to use an eye primer daily due to my oily eyelids. I just discovered a few weeks ago that primer really stops the oil from forming, I'm so excited about that fact, that I had to tell my mom also, who has completely given up on wearing any eye makeup at all. I am currently using UDPP, love the formula, hate the packaging. I want to try Too Faced, but I think I am going to try ELF next since it's only $3 and if that works, it would become my HG since I'm all about saving money. This stuff looks good too, but a little pricey for me. (I know, it's only $3 more than the stuff I am currently using, but still..)

I've never tried this primer, and like Nina I'm curious as to how it compares to my beloved UDPP. The special ingredients sound nice. I'd love to give this product a test run!
hey ref26! I've used the Tarte eye primer, UDPP and Too Faced Shadow Insurance and love them all. To be honest, they all work equally well on my super oily eyelids. I am very impressed by all three products. If you're looking for a more natural product, go for the Tarte primer (the packaging says it's 100% biodegradable! How cool is that!?). Otherwise, I'd go with Too Faced because it comes in an easy to use squeeze tube (the doefoot applicator and tube lets a lot of product go to waste, unless you cut it open).

Well, if I hadn't just ordered the UDPP in Sin, I'd be running to try this one out. Guess I'll just wait til I use up my UDPP. But I must say that I love everything I've ever used from the Tarte line. And Sweetassgirl - please post photos from Halloween! I want to see how your look turned out.

I "liked" the Tarte primer: the downside is the applicator which I found a bit "pokey..." Is that a word? LOL! I have been a HUGE fan of Tarte's products for years and honestly can live with having to use another brush to apply, otherwise it's fabulous! I also LOVE costumes and used to create REALLY elaborate ones for my grandkids: alas, they are too cool now so I stick to other creative ops in order to preserve sanity,LOL! Sounds like you were quite the girl on Halloween and always! :)
Yes please post Halloween pics! Your headband sounds like it was really pretty!

This sounds like the product I've been looking for!!!! I'm not happy with my current primer and have been looking for a good replacement! Thanks!!And I agree, we need photos of this fab Twenties Tarte! haha
I have been using Laura Geller's eye spackle and it gets the job done. I don't wear shadow everyday so I may never need to replace what I have on hand now, but the Tarte product would be my pick if I needed the primer now.
I agree, please post halloween pics!! I love the fact that you make your own costume. I am so not creative I end up buying mine!! I have never tried this product or anything by Tarte before but this may be a good place to start.
oh my... a rival for the urban decay...... i gave to say.... i want it NOW!!!!

I've never heard of this before, but it looks interesting enough to try.
love the spirit concerning halloween (:i've never heard of this brand... ):But i have a feeling ill be out trying some soon?
This sounds terrific and it's going right on my list of this months "have to buy" beauty products. Thanks for a great review and especially the puns!

What a great review! I've beeing using Too Faced Shadow Insurance for months now and I love the ease of application for this one, with the lovely twist and brush action. However, I like the sound of all of the natural goodies that go into this one. When I need to restock, I'll be seriously considering this one! :D
This is another one of those products that we don't have in Australia. It sounds amazing.

It's disappointing when that happens, isn't it? :| Thankfully we can get loads of products cheaply through www.beautyticket.com with US$25 FLAT RATE international shipping!! If you're buying a lot, it's a great rate. : ]
wow, a product that suppresses creased eye shadow AND lifts up my baggy old brows? Hmm, I may have to actually splurge for this.
I just recently started using the UDPP and I had never used an eye primer before that and I am really pleased with the results. This sounds like something I will definitely try now that I know the magic of using primers and I will also recommend it to my mom. Thanks sweetassgal

This will replace my other two fave primers for two reasons. It's lighter, which means excellent blend-a-bility, and it's chalk full of healthy ingredients. I especially liked what it did for that tiny outer corner area under my lower lash line. I realize it is not intended for that area but I always apply a tiny bit of primer there because my eyes water so much! It offered amazing staying power through all the tears. Which means I don't have to hassle with waterproof eyeliner. And I definitely noticed a tighter, smoother looking eye area. It just felt good, nice, tight, smooth and bright. (Poetry anyone?) Confession time: It also stays beautifully all through the night. A few nights ago, I went to bed with my make up on (the horror) and my peepers looked really good that next morning. What more can you ask for in one tube of primer?
I love everything Tarte makes, they are second only to Cargo for my favorite product line. I have never been disappointed by a single product I've tried from them.
i have never used a primer, i'm lazy and the primers here are ridiculously expensive, so i just use some maybelline mousse eyeshadow.. it does a fair job and intensify the eyeshadow.i don't know if i have an oily lid :S but a lot of my cream shadow often end up in my crease..I wish halloween was more of a tradition here, it sounds terrible but i went out for dinner with a few friends to avoid trick or treaters.. not that we get many anyway.. (last year we had terrible rude teenage boys banging on the whole neighbourhood doors and spitting on everyone's lawns!!!). There's a fair amount of halloween dress up house parties but theres not much of the vibe here. :(

I love using a primer to help my eye makeup go on smoother, help the colors remain true, makes blending easier and of course last longer. This little gem from Tarte in Natural dried quickly, felt smooth almost chalky but not caked, really even out my eye skin tone and helped my eye makeup last a whole lot longer. I didn't notice any help on lifting my eyes, but then, the only thing that would help with that is toothpicks or a good plastic surgeon. Like Stylemama said, I also noticed it helped those little crows feet type lines on the side. I don't have many and they are not deep, but Tarte definitely improved them. I thought this was an excellent product for about $20.

"Firmotol?" What a beautiful name. Anything that lifts is a hit for me! I may even separate myself from my Urban Decay and others to try this. Tantejoan and hao9703, count me in for using Kumaara as a base as well. I employ L'Oreal's De-Crease primer as a concealer and it lasts forever.
Firmitol is the selling point for me... being a natural product is a plus... oh my... another eye primer on my to-buy list! I don't think I have oily lids, would it work too? I already have TFSI and ELF mineral primer, although I keep forgetting to apply them. Should I get another?? No international shipping is a bummer... Question: Has anyone bought from Tarte online? how do they pack -- flat/according to products purchased or in a ridiculously huge box like what ELF is doing?? TIA ♥
Okay everyone...first off I'm trying to locate a Halloween pic of my flapper face. SOMEONE at work has to have one!Second...I got ready this morning and put the UDPP on my right eye and Tarte on my left. So far I'm noticing two things....They both go on smooth and dry quickly and they both give really good coverage. However, the UDPP seems to be a slightly more natural color...very neutral with a light beige while the Tarte has a little more yellow in it (on my white skin its a little noticeable but would be perfect on someone with different undertones) and of course the packaging is too cute. But the Tarte is DEFINITELY going to work on a noticible eye crease! I can actually see that it's less severe. Of course I've been obsessing and staring at it for about 15 minutes. I hadn't even noticed it much until now! Also...the natural ingredients and enivironmentally friendly factor of the packaging are a huge plus. I'm experimenting today so I'm sitting at my desk with ONLY primer on for a while to check out the results. I'll add shadow in about a half hour and check back to let you guys know how the race is going!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
You must have been a Gorgeous Flapper and I am with you about the headbands I love temmmm Feathers and Sequins are my favorits !!!! I think no wearing twice the same outfit for halloween is very great and I love the idea of NOT TOO =) ! I am in France and we don't have Halloween that make me sad cause when I look at picture of Halloween in US I almost think it's unreal !!! In France after 15 you will not dress up at the risk to look "stupid" I hate that mentality and I wish we Europeans were just like you Americans !!!!Now back to the topic lol I have oily lids too and since I don't really know how to put shadow one lol I never really try so I never use a primer !!<3

Alright ladies...eyeshadow was applied and we are 4 hours in our test. As far as application is concerned the UDPP allowed for slightly smoother application. I wouldn't have even noticed the difference if I hadn't been doing this test. The smooter application gave a bit more blendablility but the Tarte side seemed to appear deeper in color. The UDPP blends into each other and the Tarte side really takes the color where it is. Absolutley NO creasing on either lid yet so that's good news for oily lidded gals. Note: I used powder and NOT creme shadow for the test as I know creme will still crease on me by mid-day. Also...I was going to use my FAB fave Cats Cosmetics Hello Gorgeous palette for the test but I figured I know those will look good with or without primer so instead I broke out my Mark shadows in Bondi Beach and Nomaic to see how they stack up. I throw these on A LOT for a quick makeup fix and by this time in they day they are usually almost GONE. Right in place and looking great right now. I'll report again at the end of my work day which will be a full 8 hours and then let you know what it looks like at the end of the day. So far...no one's a loser with EITHER of these. See you later!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
Almost off work and looking gorgeous! My eyes at least. Both still look great. If I had to split hairs I think the UDPP is holding up slightly better with great still great looking color though Tarte's still looks good too. So right now its a tough call for me because I'm still loving the natural properties of Tarte. I'll check back later before bed.
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
This sounds like a really interesting product. I love the anti-wrinkle properties of it as well.
Heyy how are u pretty?I think i need this now !!! thx for the advice
Amy , Big kisses from Paris!
How much does this product cost?I`m using Urban Decay Primer Potion and I love it but I would like to try other products. However if Tarte`s lifted natural eye primer is more expesive I think that I will continue with my Primer Potion or Shadow Insurance of Too faced.
Hmm...So many people really like eye primers, especially Tarte's. Even though I have oiler lids, I've never tried a primer--always saw it as an extra step that I didn't have time to do. I have found that the quality of the eyeshadow makes a big difference with staying power for me. One day I did my makeup with a Chanel eye shadow quad, fell asleep without washing my face that night (I know, it's a cardinal sin!), and after waking up, my eyeshadow looked the same as it did when I put it on the previous day. Wow! I do suppose that a primer would be of use to me when using eyeshadow that does tend to crease, or in hot, humid weather.
Final verdict...I checked my eyes before going to bed last night at 10:30 and they were both still going strong. I used my 10x mag mirror and the Tarte on the left had a little more creasing than the UDPP but it took the 10x to really notice the difference. My makeup looked as good 12 hours after applying as it usually does just an hour or two in the morning. Without a primer my shadow would have been LONG gone and I used a cheaper product to test it as well. Today I've got my Cat on and with very little effort the colors are gorgeous. I HAVE to say to everyone who doesn't use primer...you don't have to use it all the time but I am TELLING YOU NOW if you do your eyes will look perfect for hours, there is no need for touch up, you use less product because it really takes to the primer and creasing is a bare minimum. It's WORTH it to stay looking flawless for hours. UDPP has a slight edge on blending and strong staying power...Tarte is still rockin' and has the natural properties and eco friendly aspect to make it a front runner as well. You can't go wrong ladies...try it and you'll see the difference. And you WILL be hooked! Love to ALL!!!!!!!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
i might go buy these next as my smashbox primer is almost finished and toward the end i stopped liking it
What I have a really hard time with is that I'm almost 32 and my upper lids are droopy! Im seeing a difference every year now, too! I get this from my mom. she is 57 and has had 2 upper eye lid surgeries already. (and frankly they still dont look very tight, which scares me) My left eye lid is droopier than my right too, which makes all that liquid cat eye liner I love so much that much harder to apply and look even. Can this product, or ANY product make a real difference for me with my not-so-tight eye lids????
I feel for you honey. Congenital beauty troubles are a bitch. That's for sure. I noticed the Tarte primer was great at smoothing small wrinkles and filling in line. I felt like my eyes looked more "awake" but I won't promise it will fully lift your lids. If I were you I'd get to an Ulta or Sephora (if you have one nearby) and see if you can try it out before you buy. I hope it works for you but I definitely don't want to promise miracles. Good luck!!

I received this from Meg. I really like it. It's super light weight and goes on easily. It's pretty light, which I wasn't too sure about at first, but you can't tell how light it is whenever you put color over it. I used it for Halloween and did a pretty kick ass red/orange smokey eye. It definitely made the color pop and it kept it bright and in place for hours. I'm not sure about the whole "firmatol" claims, but I do like this as a primer in general.
I personally love my TFSI and I don't plan on getting anything else...unless it stops working.
Urban Decay Potion was the deal then it got to be just TOO adhesive. Maybe it was just my bottle but it was quite spacle-like. I'm currently using Mac paint pots and I am having perfect eyes for all of my waking hours. BUT now you introduce me to a product to lift...wow. Maybe I could use this under the mac paint pots. Hey, I'll give it a go. Whatever works! Thanks for the review.
thanks for the review! haven't tried too many tarte products (LOVE the cheekstain!) and usually use UD's eyelid primer...but may have to give this one a try when that one runs out!

Oooh I'm always on the lookout for a good eyeshadow primer! Every one I've tried creases on me within hours- including TFSI and UDPP. Being natural is a huge plus!
I actually just received this in a package and it's pretty awesome! I can't say it does anything for my wrinkles(because I don't really have any lol), but it does keep the eyeshadow in place. :)

This is so going on my Christmas list.
I use Dr. Dima's Concealer as my eye primer and it totally keeps my shadow in place and keeps the color vibrant all day long. I've never used a tarte products but their website looks cool.
