GETTING TO KNOW ALLMAPLE! SPOTLIGHT ON KATHRYN PSUTKA!
Name: Kathryn Psutka
Age: 23
Vocation: 2nd year veterinary student
What is in your purse? When I am at school I usually only carry my backpack (boring, I know) with an SPF lip balm and whatever gloss I may wear that day. When I do carry a purse it is usually a small one that prevents me from gathering clutter. Right now my purse has Smashbox lip gloss in Illume and Avon liquid lip balm in a peachy colour. I usually only touch up my lips when I am on the go, so my purse doesn't get clogged with various other products.
Guilty Pleasure: Wedding shows. I am terrible, I will watch marathons of Say Yes to the Dress and Rich Bride Poor Bride.
Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: I think I may have some olive in my skin, but I really have no idea! My skin is quite oily, and if I don't keep on top of it I end up with clogged pores and blackheads.
Beauty inspiration: I think Angelina Jolie is always sporting the perfect cateye! I wish I could apply liquid liner as well as her makeup artists! For colored eye shadow I really like what Blake Lively and Leighton Meester wear on Gossip Girl. And Lauren Luke on youtube has been a great source of makeup tutorials that I have tried out!
Top 3 skincare products:
- Green Clay - super cheap, the best face mask I have ever used! I mix it with apple cider vinegar and it really helped clear up acne. A once a week mask also helps keep my oil slick of a face under control.
- Vitamin E oil - this has made my skin so soft, I love it! Can't really tell about the anti-aging claims, but it is such a great moisturizer that is enough for me.
- St. Ives Apricot Scrub - really buffs away the dead skin leaving a luminous base. I used the medicated one when acne was a problem and it really helped.
Top 3 tools of the trade:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance - classifying this as a tool because I could not live without it! My eyeshadow lasts 14+ hours in 100 heat and humidity. This little tube is a life saver!
- EcoTools brushes - so nice to apply make up with these super soft brushes! They disperse and blend pigments very well.
- A ceramic nail file - it never needs to be replaced, unless I forget where I left it! Leaves a nice, smooth edge on the nail.
Best beauty secret / tip: Don't be afraid of color! A blush or eyeshadow that looks scary bright in the pan can bring a beautiful pop of color to the face, just apply with a light hand.
Three current beauty products you'd like to buy:
- Tarte cheek stains - any color! They all look so beautiful!
- The perfect red lipstick - I am determined to make red lipstick work for me! Am currently on the hunt for Snow White from NYX.
- Anything from Philosophy - the scents sound divine! Can't wait to try some!
Favorite Drugstore product and why: CoverGirl Lash Blast - this mascara gives great volume and really dark black lashes. High impact! Why pay over 5 times more for a mascara when this works perfectly?
Favorite Splurge item and why: Lancome Color Fever Gloss - these come in beautiful colors, from sheer to full color. I love the shine and sparkle. They last a long time on me for a gloss and are not too sticky.
If I was on a limited beauty budget I would: Babysit the neighbors' kids, walk dogs, water plants, clean toilets... Whatever it takes to feed my gloss addiction!
Great to get to know you Kathryn!
Your wedding shows guilty pleasure is so funny, you got us laughing pretty hard! How did that occur? Is it like a wedding show addiction?

You do look like you have some olive undertone. Pretty skin, too! I love your lip color.I really love the show (can't recall the name) where the host makes over people's weddings when they have poor/tacky taste.

Hi Kathryn, nice to meet you! I love Eco Tools brushes too, they're great quality and so cheap.

Great to meet you, Kathryn! I love your easy and cheap tip for Green Clay masks! I am going to try this as soon as I can get a hold of some. Also, I LOVE YouTube makeup tutorials - thanks for the tip for your favourite clips! I generally watch Oxfordjasmine and Makeupgeek, but this will be a welcome addition! You can never have too many tutorials and looks to copy. ;]
Nice to meet you Kathryn. I used to watch Say Yes to the Dress all the time but stopped for some reason. It was an awesome show and I loved the dresses that people would pick out. Beautiful. I love the makeup on Gossip Girl (one of my guilty pleasures) and thank you for the heads up for Lauren on youtube. I will have to go check out her videos. I love watching the gurus on there. It's nice to see how to actually apply something. I need to get more color in my makeup. I tend to stick to browns because they are great for my everyday work day. Sometimes I will add a purple to the mix to bring out my greenies. LOL. Thanks for sharing with us!
HI Kathryn, I have used green clay and its great! I use cover girl alsh blast and I love it! It gives me the big lashes I love!My guilty t.v. pleasures are TMZ, the original Girls Next Door, Flip this House, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, to name a few...
Hello Kathryn, nice to meet you! I might have a lip gloss addiction too - a couple of months ago I bought 15 of a single Avon Glazewear that was being discontinued.
hi kathryn. i too love covergirl's lash blast! it works so well for my stick straight eyelashes. it really holds the curl in and gives me lots of volume! hopefully you'll be able to try out some philosophy stuff because they have so many yummy scents.

I actually go to St. George's University on the island of Grenada in the caribbean. I did not have enough clinical experience required to get in to a Canadian school, and there was no way I was doing grad school! I'm very glad to be here and that I did not have to put my life on hold waiting to get in! It may not have been my first choice but I will be glad in the end that I did it.
i know!! im not looking forward to wating to get accepted and I dont have alot of clinical work either! Im currently scouring the town for a vet clinic job!

Thanks for the tip on Lauren Luke on youtube. I've never really watched videos on there for tips but I've heard a lot about it. This looks like a great place to start for me. And I'm in the same boat, if I was on a low budget I would do whatever (there are boundaires on this lol) to pay for my shopping habit.
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
Nice to meet you! I definately agree with your tip.
i watch bridezilla marathons so i cant say anything about wedding show addictions.
nice to meet you kathryn! :)i usually carry a back pack to uni as well, it's boring indeed but convenient, i always try to get the ones with numerous compartments so i can shove a lip gloss here and mirror there.oh i completely agree with you angelina seem to have few of the most flawless make up looks! and her eyes are amazing! she looks gorgeous without make up too :)

Nice to meet you! I have seen a few Bridezilla episodes and they are possibly the most hilarious tv shows that I've seen. I really should get some clay from the Health Food store, everytime I hear that someone makes their own masks I really want to, but end up forgetting!
Hi Kathryn! I also love Too Faced Shadow Insurance, ecotools brushes, and Tarte cheek stains. And that is great advice about using color. I think one of the easiest ways to add just a bit of color is colored eyeliner--use black eyeliner on your top lid, and colored eyeliner on the bottom for just a bit of color! Most of my guilty pleasures are TV shows as well. :P

I love watching Say Yes to the Dress too! You make me want to try green clay since I agree with a lot of your other suggestions!
Kathryn, welcome and thanks for your excellent product choices! Your skin is lovely. Melilala is right, as your lipstick is beautiful like you. What kind is it? Don't worry about your lipgloss addiction. We'll pitch in to help with your habit!
It's actually two glosses from Benefit's "Pink to Please a Woman, Gold to get the Guy" palette. I'm not sure if they make it anymore but the glosses are the best part!
Omg I love wedding shows too....I don't even have a boyfriend so I'm nowhere near that. However I love Say Yes to the Dress (I love seeing all the pretty dresses and how they look so different on each body type) I also like them cause I enjoy hearing how people met their fiance!!
Watch out, wedding show addictions can lead to cake baking show addictions! You start watching because they are featuring a wedding cake and before you know it, you're sucked in to the crazy world of fondant, gum paste and spun sugar. yikes.
LOL. I am addicted to Cake Boss on TLC and the cake challenge shows on the Food Network. I can only dream of having a cake like those.
I love cake shows!! I especially like Ace Of Cakes, I think their world is crazy and Duff is hilarious! They are so creative too, I totally want a cake from Charm City Cakes lol :)
Hi Kathryn! I also love Lancome Color Fever glosses, I just think they're the best! I love the scent, the consistency and the heart-shaped applicator. Lately my weird guilty pleasure is watching facial massage and body massage videos on youtube! I just find it so relaxing, I wish someone would give me a massage every night! I find myself on the brink of dozing off everytime I watch them, it's a great way to let yourself ease into sleeping.
Hi Kathryn! I love Vitamin E oil too, I mix it at night with my Vit C serum so I can have all the vitamins I can.
Nice meeting you! Congrats on Veterinary school; if I lived my life over again, that's what I'd do. Your complexion is gorgeous! And you've done a beautiful job with your makeup - it looks so natural. I also use Eco brushes for my travel set and they are so nice. Especially considering the price! And I love the Tarte cheek stains too. I use Flush for a natural blush.

nice to meet you! where do you get hold of green clay? xwww.youtube.com/user/millmo7
I have purchased it at a small organic grocery store that also had some beauty items, as well as at Nutrition House.
You have SUCH a gorgeous glow and beautiful eyes!!! I still think Meg is pullin' models off the LA streets in exchange for a hot meal,LOLROF! :)LOVE that you are a wedding-watcher,not much else is more fun to plan,re-hash,and bash than a good wedding?I also love Tarte cheek stains, they are all so pretty and wearable! I have a glitter one called "Snow Bunny" I'd simply die without sometimes...We could sure use a few good vets here in Texas, the "large animal" ones are all doing only horses and the "small animal" ones don't do cattle....come on down!!! :)My guilty pleasure? Ridiculously long baths with way too much pricey bath stuff tossed in! I also LOVE vampire movies/True Blood and will watch "Gone With The Wind" in it's entirety every chance I get.
i like how you're very low maintenance about what you carry around!personally not a fan of the CoverGirl lashblast, maybe because I got in waterproof ):it has become my new to never buy waterproff mascara anymore.
Hi Kathryn, its nice to meet you. :) You are absolutely glowing in your photo.
Say Yes to the Dress is the best show ever!!!! It totally indulges me in my irrational wedding dress obsession!!!! haha
I looove wedding shows - Say yes to the Dress and Bridezillas. Oh yeah! It's so trashy, yet fantastic. I can't even explain, haha. I'm also a huge fan of CG Lash Blast. Definitely one of the best mascaras out there, but way cheaper than some other brands. It never clumps and gives really great fullness.
Nice to meet you Kathryn.I too use Too Faced Shadow Insurance...and I am never looking back. That stuff is a miracle in a bottle.I love green clay too but I don't know where to buy it anymore.
Ooo I love Eco Tools too! They work so well for being so inexpensive and Drugstore.com always has a sale on them!
Nice to get to know you a bit more, Kathryn! Making your own masks seem neat. I'll have to look around to find some green clay.
Hi! Nice to meet you. Your skin looks radiant in that picture. So all your efforts really do pay off, you are doing a great job. My husband introduced me to Vit E. (breaking open the gels that are meant to be swallowed) He only used it on a scar on his leg, but then I took it to another whole level of beauty assistance. Slathering it on my (oh so minor) inperfections before bed. It's one of those old stand-bys that never go out of fashion. The last time I got a green clay mask tube I found one with oatmeal already mixed in and it is actually very good. It's not as drying for those who don't have oily skin.
Hi Kathryn! I like that spelling, it's unique. My Fair Wedding with David Tutera and Say Yes to the Dress are my two favorite wedding shows. I like Lancome's Color Fever gloss. L'Oreal makes one exactly like it for less (doe-foot applicator instead of the spade shaped one) which makes sense since they're owned by the same company. They both can be kind of gritty sometimes though. I just bought a Tarte cheekstain in Flush, it's a great color. They're very natural and real looking, which would work with your "I wake up looking this pretty" look.
Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you, Kathryn! I love love love wedding shows, too! It's good I don't have cable, I'd be watching TLC all day long!I also love St. Ive's Apricot scrub- I use the blemish and blackhead control one and it works amazingly!
Hi Kathryn! Great to meet you, you're so pretty! I need to start making my own masks like you, one day hopefully. I also love Vit E oil. I mix mine with aloe vera for my nightly moisturizer.
You have gorgeous skin! If that green clay has anything to do with that I might have to get some.I am a devotee of Too Faced Shadow Insurance as well--I need a new tube as I'm almost out...of the same tube I've been using for a little over a year! How amazing is that?
Believe it or not, my face actually exploded when I moved to Grenada. I don't know if it was the water, the humidity, or what but I had never had such bad acne in my life! And for the first time ever it was leaving scars. I used prescriptions topicals but definitely noticed improvement immediately after using the mask (less redness, smaller bumps the next day). I stopped using the prescriptions about March of last year but continued weekly masks, and have had maybe 2 or 3 pimples since then (and still live in Grenada most of the year). I absolutely recommend it to anyone with breakouts! Just don't leave the house or anything right after, I think it is the apple cider vinegar makes your skin quite red for an hour or so.
