SUPERSMILE TOOTHPASTE!
Tantejoan here! As the youngest of three girls, I often found myself on the low end of the totem pole, last to the table, holder of the short stick – you get the picture. Wherever I went, my sisters -- seven and ten years older -- had been there before me, and as memorable and talented as they were, late arrival moi was saddled with their brilliant reputations as not-very-added-value. “Oh,” chirped the teacher, “you are (enter sister’s name here)’s sister. You must be wonderful at dramatics/rope climbing/creative writing/pottery/butter churning.” Whatever I wanted to do, or was expected to excel at, my sisters had been there, done that, and had left me a daunting legacy as they moved on to their next triumphs, literally years ahead of me.
Ah, but there was one arena in which I was the clear leader, superior in every way, and it has lasted me all of my life. I have inherited all of the good calcium genes both parents had to offer. While my sisters were plagued with cavities in virtually every tooth, spending Saturday after tortuous Saturday clamped into the dentist’s chair, I skipped blithely through my childhood and young adulthood with but three cavities. Ever. My hair was strong and thick, while theirs was fine and thin. My bones were strong; even now, when I have a bone density test, the result shows that I have the bones of a thirty year old, leaving me to conclude that somewhere in the world there is a poor young woman cursed with my elderly bones. My sisters? They are charter members of the Sally Field School of Bone Maintenance.
Having good strong teeth is a great advantage, of course, but there can be drawbacks. My teeth were cavity-free, yes, but all that calcium output made me a virtual plaque factory, and yellow? My sisters kindly referred to them as horse teeth, big, yellow and ivory as old piano keys. Their own teeth might be Swiss cheese-y on an X-ray, but truly dazzling on a dance floor. They win again. Forever. Or so I thought, until as I matured, dentistry hit a speed bump. Fluoridated water gave young kids the same advantage my genes had given me, a natural resistance to tooth decay. And with fewer cavities came fewer costly hours in a dentist’s chair. What was a poor dentist to do? Gee, I don’t know, how about cosmetic dentistry?
Over the past 40 years or so, enterprising dentists have found tons of ways to correct the appearance of our teeth and high on the list has been the ability to make white those dull, dingy, yellow or stained teeth. As they came along, I tried most, if not all of them, some in home kits, some in dentist’s offices, some in those brightening storefront spas. I have probably spent more on whitening my teeth than on gym fees, and believe me, time spent at the gym would probably have been better spent. I know that the dollars I spent on toothpastes that promised whiter, brighter smiles were pretty much dollars down the drain. From my earliest foray – Pearl Drops – through the Rembrandts, the GO Smiles and all the whitening formulas offered by Crest, Colgate, Aquafresh and the rest – I got better or negligible plaque reduction and better or negligible stain reduction, minty freshness, but no real difference in the dazzling white department. Until now.
When Meg sent me a tube of Supersmile for review, my first thought was been there, done EVERYTHING. What on earth more could I do to my choppers that has not been done, especially when my beloved Dr. Mike, he who has been tending to all of the ailments even strong, healthy bones can fall prey to as age evens the score, urged me to brush only with Colgate Total for its plaque-loosening talents. But who am I, I thought, to refuse Meg when she has been the very fountainhead of all products and advice wonderful for lo, these years. No, I thought, Dr. Mike can lump it. I must use Supersmile for this test period, and by gum – or gums! – I will.
Dr. Irwin Smigel is a real cutie. He has a red carpetfull of celebrity clients, all of whom have the DWS -- Dazzling White Smile – of my dreams. Now in the interests of full disclosure, I must point out that some of these celebrities have had extensive cosmetic dentistry to achieve DWS-ness. Porcelain veneers, for example, or caps or other aids. Doesn’t matter. We all, the augmented or the non-, experience stains, illnesses or whatnot. Therefore we all are less than our best, smilewise. I feel better already, I thought, as I imagined a level playing field between Scarlett Johansen and me. The big thing is to use the Supersmile and see what happens.
What happened was, in two weeks I got whiter teeth. No foolin’. So much so that I am going to get the whole darn system – the toothpaste, the Accelerator, and the mouthwash – and go for broke. Because I have to tell you, this is not a cheapie system. But I am convinced. According to the Web site, Supersmile will work on all types of teeth: natural teeth, veneers, crowns, bonding and even dentures - returning teeth to their natural whiteness - and helping to maintain and restore the color of any original dental work. What’s not to like? I am especially looking forward to getting the mouthwash, because of its smart and really cute format. You get these individual packets of powder. Tear off the top of the packet, fill with water and swish it around, then rinse and repeat. You get fresh breath and a little dose of the patented Calprox™ formula that all the products contain, plus you can carry it anywhere with no spillage. Compare that to lugging around even the tiniest bottle of mouthwash. I don’t think so!
So, I am sold. I’m not taking third place behind my sisters anymore because I, too, have a DWS. I will also be using my Crest Whitestrips twice a year, because they have never let me down, but from now on I will be a Smigel Smiler. No, I can’t really say that, Dr. Smigel, no matter how cute you are. There are limits.
Who else has tried Supersmile? What did you think?

I have tried the paint on whiteners before and never though they did anything. So I'm skeptical about any treatment the is not done in the dental chair. The other day noticed Meg's smile was a bit brighter, I wasn't even told that she tried something. I got a big smile and was told about Supersmile's 2 part professional whitening system. This system managed to wipe off some of the wine and smoke from her pretty chompers. I was like, if it erases away some of her daily coffee drinking habits from pearly whites then I have to try it. I liked it, I felt like I was doing a magic trick putting the contents of the 2 tubes on one toothbrush. The flavor was good and I noticed my teeth got a little whiter after one use.
I'm a huge fan of Crest White Strips. My dentist even uses them and suggests them to all her clients who don't have the cash to spring for professional whitening. She has said unless you have decades of discoloring, they'll work. I'd definitely be interested in trying this product--seems awesome.

Hello TanteJoan,It's funny cause I recognize myself in what you said about your teeth I feel the same I am glad that I never had any problems with my teeth as a baby my mom gave me calcium in pills and I never got one cavaitie she did the same for my two younger sisters and no cavaities neither BUT my teeth are YELLOW and that's make me upset cause getting them white by a dentist is too expensive for me !!!I am very skeptical about whitening products but if you tell us you are SOLD I guess I am sold too now =)Great review !Chloe.

Megken and Joan are right. I have the supersmile whitening system. You put some accelerator gel on a dry toothpaste and mix it with the whitening toothpaste right on the bristles. it only takes 10 seconds. Then you brush for a minute or two in a circulr motion. Then you rinse. I wanted to vomit a little when I spit out so much yellow ( I know-GROSS-Sorry) but it really does work. For SUPERSMILE results I did it twice in a row one night and WOW! I swear I had whiter shades after 10 minutes. I strongly suggest this line. It works really well on everyone that I have spoken to about it. Off to go get coffee now! When I get home I win be easily able to remove any tell-tale signs.
I LOVE this toothpaste!!! Mainly because I have veneers and crowns galore and honestly, nothing else has been proven to "whiten and brighten" them a bit until this stuff...I use it regularly,am on my 2nd tube, and see a notable difference for sure! Combined with an Advanced Crest Whitening Strip here and there(they say they don't work on cosmetically-enhanced teeth but I thik they DO!) and I'm good to go!You'd never be anything less than first in my book Tante!!!
Another great product! As a coffee and tea addict, I have my fair share of stains. Coupled with 6 years of wearing braces, I now have a smile that I'm not really proud to show off. Could someone hook me up with some Supersmile? :)
Funny you guys should post this today. I literally was just whitening my teeth when I saw this post show up. :) Yesterday I bought a Plus White kit (from Dollar General of all places) and it works! I used it three times since I got it, and after the first five minutes, my teeth were already a lot whiter. I drink coffee almost every day so it's hard for my to keep my teeth white. I had been using Crest Whitestrips, but even those are a little too pricey for my taste. I read about Plus White somewhere, maybe here even? It was $7 for an entire kit. I got a tube of the whitening gel, a bottle of the pre-whitening rinse, and a really comfortable blue mouthpiece. I am sold for sure!

This sounds promising! I also have dingy teeth from drinking the nectar of life every morning ;)It's not as expensive as I was imagining it to be! I was thinking $100/mth, but the one month kit is only $36 or only $25 if you buy three months at a time! Well worth the money if it works as good as y'all say it does!
I am going to start with the toothpaste and see what kind of results I get. There are deals to be had all over the internet on the products and kits.
I have never had any luck with the whitening toothpastes, and didn't want to spend the money on strips. So if I thought the strips are too much don't know what to think about the complete Supersmile line! I did win a contest for Rembrandt 2 hour whitening that I will try when I get home at Christmas. Hopefully that brand will work because it is well priced compared to other whitening systems. My teeth aren't horrible so hopefully I will get results with plain old drug store products.Recently I have been trying a hydrogen peroxide rinse, and have seen no change. Plus it tasted absolutely horrible so I am glad to let that one go!
i recently got a job this month and i was drinking tea every morning. my sister told me that my teeth were looking yellow and her telling me that was like a big uh oh. i already knew my teeth were looking yellow so after hearing that from someone else, i decided to finally do something about it. i went to Target and bought their store brand whitening trays and so far it has been working. my teeth are definitely brighter and more on the off-white shade than yellow. having whiter teeth definitely helps me be more confident in smiling and talking to people so i'm going to try to keep them as white as i can. i will have to check out SuperSmile in a few months!

This sounds great! Just wondering Tantejoan, if you had any increased sensitivity when you used this product? I remember I tried one product a year or two ago, and it made my teeth so sensitive, the results weren't worth it! I can imagine it varies from person to person, but these results sound great, just wondering if you had any negative side effects? Thanks!!
I'm a big fan of Crest Whitestrips, but when the weather is cold they really hurt my teeth (I have no idea why). So I'm thrilled that Meg sent this to me, and I love your endorsement! Any dentist-to-the-stars is a celeb in my eyes, so I'm all over this stuff. AND Meg's review of the accelerator made me put that on my wishlist too. (I have an actual wishlist, no joke)
I've been looking for a good teeth whitening product for the last 5 years and I don't want to shed a whole lot of money too... I drink A LOT of caffeinated drinks and they stain your teeth a lot and those stains are really, really hard to remove. I tried all the homemade tricks and most of what's in the drugstore already...
I am very excited about this product. I've been looking for something that would work on veneers for my Mom for years. I myself had trays made years ago and get the whitening gel from my dentist every year. The initial cost was about $500, but the refills are about $30. At the six month mark I usually touch up with a drug store whitening strip.

Great review, TJ! You are always Numero Uno in my book. Anyway, I've got the not-so-white teeth that one acquires as a reward for living many years. I have successfully used the Night White stuff from the dentist in the past, but I really don't like going to bed with that tray in my mouth. So now I want to try something that works by just brushing. You've convinced me to try Supersmile. I hope it helps me as much as it has you!

I tried the supersmile professional whitening toothpaste in the 1.75 oz size and used the entire tube to see what I thought about it's whitening capabilities. It's a bit hard for me to tell if it made a big difference because my teeth are pretty white to begin with - not movie star white by a long shot but pretty white compared to some women my age. I would have liked to try the toothpaste with the accelerator to really see what this product can do as it sounds like that is the optimal way to really get show stopping results! I would have been stunned and elated to have Meg's yellow spitting results - wow - talk about impressive! I found the toothpaste to be very pleasant to use and leaves your mouth feeling quite clean! The only thing was that by the time I finished the tube my teeth were back to randomly giving me unsuspected moments of tooth sensitivity in a non-fun way! I really need to stick to Sensodyne because that product really does the trick for my over sensitive teeth. I know this product works on "bleached teeth, bonded teeth, veneers, crowns, braces and even dentures" which I thought was quite a remarkable statement. None of the other whitening toothpastes make that claim! I think it kept my teeth looking really nice and if my teeth were not so overly sensitive I'd really think about investing in the toothpaste and accelerator and really blow the socks of my smile!
Jeanasina!
How interesting to hear of a non-dental procedure for teeth whitening that.. actually works?! I'm still trying to get my head around it.I'll need to take a scout around the page to find out what active ingredients they've stashed in this system. My partner being a cosmetic dentist has given me a healthy amount of distrust for any over-the-counter treatments.I'm prepared to be proven wrong, however! :D
i haven't tried this product but i'm a compulsive teeth cleaner, honestly sometimes i think i put more effort into my teeth rather than my face or skin. however i've tried a lot of whitening products... and noneof them actually worked (maybe the first time), so i have to get it cleaned and polished at the dentist every 6 months, i'm very glad to see a review for this! :)

Haven't tried this one, but I think I'll be looking out for it.
I heard in chem. class that toothpastecan't actually make your teethwhiter but who knows these days.

It's true as far as I'm aware. ANYTHING you buy over the counter does not have enough active ingredient to make any kind of difference on the colour of your teeth. It's a fact. So many people waste their money on toothpastes, mouth washes etc that just don't do a thing! Honestly, everyone would be better to save the money they usually spend on this kind of stuff and book in for a professional treatment at their dentist every 6 months.
This product sounds really interesting. My teeth are quite yellow, from all my tea drinking and I really want that to change. I will have to scope this one out and see if it looks suitable for me. Thanks for the review!
I loved the Crest paint on stuff it worked so well and fast. Crest quit making it, so now I use Crest white strips. They work well too. I used whitener gels from the dentist office and I really hated doing it, because you had to keep it in the fridge and use a syringe that's really messy. Basically, the two kinds I have paid too much for from a Dentist office, I didn't even use. I did it at the MOST three times. I have the light mouth piece and I love that. When I ordered it I some how ended up getting four light sets. It was buy one get one free, but I got three free. I've had them for a few years and still use the same one and have never needed to change the battery. Years ago my Dental Assistant told me a good way to whiten your teeth is with denture cleaner. I've never tried it, but I do have some denture cleaner for my clear retainers and they look great. I'm just not sure how I would apply denture cleaner to my teeth. Has anyone tried cleaning your teeth with Denture stuff? If so, did it work? Thanks Tantejoan for the fab review!!!

TanteJoan (or anyone else who has used Supersmile),I'm also interested in increased sensitivity. I have heard that many whitening products that have the strength to work also weaken enamel. Has anyone found this to be true?
Home tooth bleaching treatments can very slightly reduce tooth enamel. I have read up on some long term Tetracycline studies where patients bleached their teeth over night for 6 months and the amount of tooth enamel lost was truly insignificant
I got this in my last package from Meg but haven't tried it yet as I'm using up some GoSmile toothpastes right now. I'll definitely update on my results once I crack that baby open, though!
I have never been convinced about over the counter tooth whitening products. Its like getting a cream instead of botox (ok, bit of an over the top example, I know) because the cream really isn't going to be as good as the botox. Isn't it more worth it to save your pennies and get it done professionally by someone who knows what they are doing?? Just my .02.
Exactly what I always say!!! GREAT analogy, Alice - I may use this one. : ]
Whatever route you take to achieve a better smile, I'm for it. But in answer to the sensitivity questions, I have not experienced any thus far. I did with the first generation of Crest Whitestrips, but not with the newer formula. I definitely did with the syringe gels from my dentist -- they were too harsh to take, plus 110% gagworthy. As for the "no OTC can do it" comments, I tend to agree, in part. I don't think any mass market commercial toothpaste with "whitening" on the label will work. But I consider Supersmile, especially in concert with the Accelerator (bought it yesterday, using it now) to have a much higher level of bleaching agent than those you get in a drugstore. All I can say is, it's working for me, and I'm so skeptical I might as well be from Missouri.
[deleted -- wrong topic!]
I haven't tried this but I really need to do something about my teeth. Thanks to genetics, I have naturally really straight teeth, but they're also not-so-white. But my dentist has told me that that means whitening strips and trays should work really well for me. I've used the strips in the past but gotten lazy about it. I've also used the Plus White 5 minute system (and gotten lazy about that too). I'm really impressed at how so NOT expensive the Supersmile system is--who knew? Thanks for the rec, Joan, your timing couldn't better!
This sounds amazing!!! I'll have to admit that I'm not in desperate need for whitening treatments, but I'm sure glad that I know where to go now. Other than using a whitening toothpaste (Colgate Whitening w/ Oxygen Bubbles, or something like that), I don't do anything special. My dentist always approves of my smile and tells me how people pay to get teeth white like mine. That said, I have recently upped my intake of coffee and red wine--my teeth surely can't fight against those formidable foes forever!Last year before I got married, I did the Crest Whitestrips, the premium ones. They were recommended by one of the dental techs if it was something I wanted to do for my special day. They really made my teeth and gums sensitive for a while, but boy did those whites get whiter!!! I wasn't even halfway completed when my husband urged me to stop using them, lest I end up like Ross in that one FRIENDS episode. (His chompers glowed in the dark, by golly!) I didn't listen to my husband's pleas, and finished the system. My teeth were glowing, but not as bad as Ross's, thank goodness! They are pretty much back to normal now. The next time I feel like whitening up, I will check out Supersmile!
I hate it when I feel like my teeth are looking dingy. I have used the crest white strips in the past, but I think I have really sensitive teeth because I find that after I use them, I am extremely sensitive to hot or cold temps. I have my ten year high school reunion in a few weeks, and will definitely have to try this stuff. Thanks for the info!
I love this line and think it's really effective. The powdered single dose mouthwash and the whitening gum are both really great, especially when you are travelling.
Those whitening packets sound like they would be great even if they didn't whiten! Fresh breath in a little travel packet. Brilliant!
Okay, you can sell refrigerators to Eskimos! I have NO enamel on my teeth as my mom took an antibiotic while she was pregnant with me, but I would like a lighter shade yellow. I only have dentin on my teeth and still have them, even though I was warned I'd lose them all by age twenty-five. Fine--Joan, Meg, Megken, et al, you'll be to blame when yet another package arrives at the door!
My teeth are also this gross yellow color and i brush my teeth like religiously! I'm obsessed with white tteeeth and i really am looking forward to getting me some Crest whitestrips pretty soon! i'll tell you if they work or not. I'm seriously so anxious to get these.
I am skeptical about this product changing the color of crowns, dentures, veneers and such. There are so many OTC whitening products on the market. I would check with a dentist or your dentist and if he gives it the thumbs up then all is good.Sensodyne or Crest Sensitivity are very good at releiving sensitivity. Stay away from "gel" of "past-gel" combination toothpaste. Gel toothpast has a sweetening agent in them and that causes sensitivity in adults. Gels are great for kids, but if your an adult and you have sensetive teeth and your using "gel" toothpaste STOP, get a paste toothpaste ie., Sensodyne, Crest Sensitivity (sensodyne is my fav.) and get a new "soft" toothbrush then be patient. Teeth are slow to respond and if they're pissed off it just may take a little while. Things should get better. acid foods can cause sensitivity too, strawberries, tomatoes, grapefruit etc...
I just ordered for my Mom. Shipping was a little pricey, though.
Indi
Warning: Be very careful with the supposedly free trials of Dazzle Smile and Clean Whites!!!! They charge you a lot for return shipping and make it very difficult to get the product back to them in time to cancel. I read all of the fine print before I signed up, but when I went to cancel them, there were return shipping labels they make you buy and I couldn't even really try either product and be sure it had enough time in the mail to reach them before they charged me the monthly $87 fee. I just shipped them back out the day after they arrived and did everything to the letter, in the hopes that they do not charge me. That is the last "Free Trial" for me. Between the two companies I spent close to $20 to ship both of the products back, as well as quite a bit of time on the phone canceling and tracking my returns.I could have basically had a Super Smile kit for the price I paid to "try" these brands.

I got some of this when I redeemed my points, and although I was skeptical, it works! I have bonding over my two front teeth that was done way back when I was in my teens, and it even improved the whiteness of those teeth, which Crest White Strips doesn't do. I am going to purchase some more as soon as I run out.
OOh! Any sensitivity??I have SUPER sensitive teeth and they are full of fillings!! They used to be metal ones but now they are all white and pretty :DBut I cant use pretty much anything with whiteneers as my teeth feel like theyre litterally falling out of my head :(
Tan is Love
I've never used a teeth whitener before as I assumed that they didn't work. Now I know they do I'm going to try one.

i had ordered a travel kit from supersmile a year ago (...maybe more?) & i loved it.....this reminds me that i need to go for it & order full sizes since i've been out for a long long time! fyi: the 'quickee' - a paste to put on your tongue & rub along your teeth is FANTASTIC for on the go! freshens breath, whitens teeth and fits anywhere .... a godsend @ work when i have a facial appt right after lunch! ;) (the mouthwash packets are great too!)

I'm a little behind the topic here as I just got my tube less than a week ago. But I'm using it and so far liking it. I too...already have pretty white teeth and don't drink much coffee or tea or soda ever but after 4 days of twice a day brushing I'm noticing there is a brighter difference. I'm hoping to keep up the pace and by two weeks I WILL BE movie star gleeming. I may be able to get away with just the toothpaste to maintain but as we all get older our teeth tend to yellow. When that happens I'll access ANY system that will keep my teeth white. I don't like or compliment much about my body but I have, and always have had...great teeth. And I'll pay through the nose to keep it that way!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
I have the same problems as Tantejoan; strong yellowish teeth and being the youngest of four and always being compared to my older siblings accomplishments and mistakes! Your review is great, I am going to try Supersmile. Hope to get similar results.
i need to try these toothpaste as i found i didn't like the strips to make my teeth whiter
OH I got this as a sample in a Sephora order. Became addicted as my teeth were super whitey! But....I can't afford to use this toothpaste without cutting something else out of my budget. So until I'm Miss Moneybags, it's Crest for me. Boo. : (
I'm wary of teeth whitening products as I have uber sensitive teeth. I drink a lot of coffee and my teeth is rather stained. Supersmile's website indicated that there's "no danger of sensitivity".... hmmm.. another addition to my "to buy" list
