WORSHIP YOUR SKIN, NOT THE SUN!
MissRo here! I had to title this post with that line, because that is what's on the bottle for Dr. Dima's Cosmic Ray Shield SPF36 Your Skin's Solar Eclipse™. Actually, it specifically says "I worship my skin, not the sun" and you should too!
I have been using this moisturizer since day one when I started using the Cosminology line. I LOVE IT! Funny enough for the past few years I have been using a day cream with either no SPF or only an SPF of 6. I know, I know, it's not good, but my foundation powder had an SPF of 15 in it so I figure I was good.
The first observation I made was that the SPF was 36. I have to be honest, I was skeptical, because I don't like using anything that has a high SPF. My next observation was that the cream had a pink-ish hue, I thought that was interesting. I pumped out a little cream in my hand and started to put it on. It had the perfect consistency and it smelled really good. It went on beautifully, felt really good, and my makeup went on flawlessly.
So let's talk about the ingredients. Micronized Zine Oxide, Tamanu Oil, Aloe Vera, and Beta Carotene. Micronized Zinc Oxide, is absorbable, non-irritating, non-comedogenic and hypo-allergenic. Dr. Dima's formulation is transparent, not pasty white. It's even safe for little earth angels! and blocks ionizing UVA/UVB cosmic rays. Tamanu Oil, is an extract that has various skin benefits from stimulating collagen synthesis to reducing skin redness (unless you're blushing from too many compliments about how good you look!). Aloe Vera, is a soothing botanical that relieves sun-exposed skin providing light hydration. Beta Carotene, is a powerful topical antioxidant to help reduce the effects of sun damage.
If you are looking to delaying premature aging and give your skin a dose of antioxidants while lightly hydrating your skin, well then this is sunscreen for you! With exclusive botanical antioxidants and micronized zinc to help prevent the breakdown of collagen, you can't go wrong! It is also safe for sensitive and acne prone skin.
What do you use for SPF protection? Do you use a cream or do you rely on foundation? Are you addicted to the sun and go tanning on a regular basis? Come on, dish it!

Up until just a few months ago, I never used a moisturizer with SPF. I just didn't even think about doing it. But lately I've decided I don't want wrinkles earlier than necessary, so I went out and bought Olay SPF moisturizer. It's WAY cheaper than Clinique's moisturizer I had been using, and it works amazingly well for me. Not greasy or anything.

My makeup has SPF in it so I don't put a lotion on under it even though I know I probably should. I find it hard to find an SPF lotion that doesn't make my oily skin an even bigger mess. Even the tinted moisturizers with SPF break me out and look like a shiny thing. Is this one made for all skin types or just normal to dry MissRo?
:( ... Lol yes... I COULD call it an addiction... but I would rather call it a hobby....But I do wear my SPF on my face everyday like a good girl :D
Tan is Love
I think my foundation has a 15spf.. i wish sunscreens didn't smell the way they do. it interferes with other scents i use. I don't tan on a regular basis.. only, I'd say, 24 days of the year on average, outside at the beach.

spf me crazy! I love spf, i always try and buy everything with spf.. my spf varies.. in winter i use spf 15 moisturiser, for lipbalm umm spf 15 (i haven't found anything higher than 15 and not greasey). as for summer, it's reallly hard! since i can't splash spf liquid foundation all over my face like everyone else, i have to use normal spf 30 beach sunscreen it's terrible because it makes my face look like a grease ball and i start breaking out, but pretty much all the spf 30+ i've tried have that effect. i'll definitely be lookin into this product!

I wear mineral makeup with some amount of SPF, but no separate sunscreen. I use Philosophy Hope in Jar as a moisturizer and love it. It makes my skin glowy and happy. There is an SPF version that makes my skin oily and angry. Sunscreen in general makes me greasy and breakout. I will probably live to regret my poor sunscreen choices when I am old and wrinkly....but hopefully the mineral makeup is giving me some protection.
I use the Olay Complete SPF moisturizer and I have for at least two years now. It has SPF 15 and it's pretty cheap for the amount you get! I also love that it doesn't leave a whitish cast, and it also doesn't feel greasy on my skin. I can apply it and my skin can absorb it in a few seconds. It also uses Zinc Oxide in it, a physical sunblock, so it's very effective.I feel like I should be a lot crazier about sun protection because I know it's super important, but I occasionally get lazy!
This sounds great. I always use at least some SPF during the day, I think the minimum would be the SPF 18 in my tinted moisturizer by TheBalm, which I'll wear for days I know I'll be getting very little sun (i.e. the 5 mins it takes me to drive to work). When I'm doing a long drive or something I use my Murad Vitamin C from Meg with an SPF of 30. For things like the beach I use SPF 50 or higher.
I wear the Murad moisturizer wich is SPF 30 and it's the only SPF product that I wear lol I love to get tanned I think I look much better with a tan so I am altering with SPF and sun lol, few months ago I decided to not go to the sun beds anymore BUT...now my skin is becoming terrible and I break out so easly and so much this isnt cool I guess I will need some SUN again cause my skin looks always perfect in summer !!!! I don't understand somthing I have been told that SUN = pimples and breakouts...but to me it's the contrary ! no sun = PIMPLES and BREAKOUTS !!!! I am confuse !!!! HELP lol

I wear an SPF now after my many sunburnt faux pas... Now I know and I wish I knew then! I'm really excited about trying anything from the Cosminology line and this is definitely on my list. Miss Ro you keep reviewing products from Dr. Dima and I look forward to them everytime. :)

Well thanks to Meg I wear Murad with 30 SPF I love it, don't know what I'll do when it's all gone :( I wear Mineral foundation and that has SPF in it naturally so I don't bother with anything usually !!!
I'm no sun worshipper, even though I live in sunny Singapore. I'd been using sun protection since my teens. All along, I use a sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher. I'd use one that claimed to have SPF 135 but it's really oily and leave a white cast on my face. Since I started on MMU, I'd been shopping around for a non-oily sunscreen that does not react with MMU (since titanium oxide and zinc oxide will destabilize avobenzone, which is used in most sunscreens). I also use Silk Naturals' Sheer Zinc finishing powder. Oh, and I carry an umbrella with UV protection/reflector.
This sounds really promising. I've used Olay but it only has SPF15 so now I use a moisturiser and a sunscreen on top with SPF 50. I'd rather make it in just one step, but I haven't found a good moisturiser with a high SPF yet.
My moisturizer has SPF 15, which I wear everyday. In the summer though I also use SPF 50 on top of that.
I wear mineral makeup, so unless I'm going to be out in the sun for quite a while, I don't bother with spf. This one looks really good, I like sunscreens that are based on zinc, I find them more effective.
Wow - this sounds great, like the rest of the Cosminology line that has been reviewed here. I'm hoping to get my hands on some soon. I used to be a sun-worshipper... and I know I'll pay for that. I've had sun poisoning several time, and it's a wonder my skin hasn't done something horrible to me by now. I've tried to make up for my previous errors by using makeup - or moisturizers with sunscreen protection. I've also learned that sunscreen is my friend. And since (unfortunately) I no longer live anywhere near a beach, I don't have the temptation to lay out in the sun. It's always a strain for me though, because I absolutely love the way the warm sun feels on my skin...

when I was a teen and in my 20's I worshiped the sun, strange this was I never seemed to "tan" I just got red, especially on my chest and cheeks. In my 30's I began to educate myself on harmful rays and how to better care for my skin. I use a day creme with an spf of 15 and my foundation has an spf of 15, does that mean I am wearing 30 or jsut 15?? I was never one to go to tanning salons. Now at 45 I am so aware of my skin its almost an obsesion. I hang on every word written here on Megs and I read everyones hints and reviews, its a godsend!!But it so strange to me that my skin would'nt tan, has anyone else experienced this?
I layer on the SPF. My primer (Avon Magix) has it, my makeup has it, my moisturizer has it, my finishing powder has it, my lip balm has it...I think the minimum is a factor 20.
When I was a teenager my friends and I layed in the sun ALL day & everyday in the summer. We would only use iodine and baby oil. I don't think any of us started using sunscreen until our mid to late 20's. I don't remember hearing much of anything about SPF or skin cancer when I was younger. (80's early 90's) I did the tanning bed too, but for the last decade I've been very diligent about wearing at least SPF 15 everyday. I've had roseaca since 1992ish, but my cheeks were just blushed all the time. In the last year my roseaca has turned into red bumps and I've tried so many potions. I'm using the same kind of prescription I used in the 90's. It worked really well back then, but so far it hasn't done much. I have very dry & sensitive skin. I think it's difficult to find moisturizing cream with SPF. Right now I'm using a separate SPF lotion along with an Aloe Vera Moisturing Cream.A combination of both would be fabulous, if it helps with my dry, red spotted and sensitive skin. Thanks for the review!

I have pale skin so I've always been religious about using sunscreen. I use a moisturiser with spf and a foundation with spf. I apply sunscreen to my body every day and even keep a tube at work so that I can reapply before I go out at lunchtime and when I leave work.

I am rather religious with my SPF as well. Australia has harsh sun and I am quite pale to begin with.I use a daily moisturiser with SPF as well as mineral makeup (which has natural sun protection) as well.I try to apply sunscreen to my neck, arms, hands and chest when I remember, but mostly just extend my moisturiser down!
I actually just rely on my foundation for my everyday sun protection, which has an spf of 15. I have oily skin to begin with & if I wear sunscreen under my makeup my face looks very shiny and becomes an oil slick within a few short hours.
I love that you're giving us the lowdown on so much in this line! Never would have paid attention until...On my list of "must have's" after the Helliday obligations for sure as are a few other things in Dr. Dina's line of what seem to be amazing products!HUGS Miz Ro!
oh my goodness! I've been looking EVERYWHERE for this. I use SPF lotion for my face, but it gets grosss and makes my face look basically pruned up and dry. :/ This is something i'm looking forward to investing my money into! :D Thanks!
I use sunblock even when I wear a foundation that has SPF in it. I stay away from the sun, no tanning beds for me either!
I go to school in the caribbean, so have been trying to be very cautious about wearing sunscreen. Back home my moisturizer had spf 15, but I bumped it up to spf 30. I try to put sunscreen on my arms and legs everyday, even though I am really only in the sun for a few minutes waiting for the bus. Definitely at the beach it is sunscreen reapplied religiously, and I sit in the shade. I almost don't want to be as tan as I am now, but I can't really help it because of where I live.
I have fair skin and burn quite easily, so I need SPF. That doesn't mean that I wear it like I should however ;)I wear mineral makeup and luckily it has a natural SPF.
I use SPF all the time. I hate tanning, i am sopale but i embrace it .

I used to be a sunworshipper but recently had to stop due to a skin condition called melasma. It makes your skin darken and looks horrible. I've been to dermatologist and was told i have to wear spf 60 due to the meds i have to put on my skin to lighten it. I will be getting a peel in the next month or so and will have to wear my sunscreen more and more :*(sunscreen also makes me break out so maybe i will look into this one and then put the other one on top?????
I use an SPF 15 Oil of Olay moisturizer. I would like something with a higher SPF though and more natural ingredients. I must say, this one is looking pretty nice :) I am also interested in one by Devita.
Yay sunscreen--almost nothing (hello, smoking) ages you as much as sun exposure. I've been wearing SPF face moisturizer daily since I was about 14 or so. For the past few years I've been using Dove daily moisturizer, SPF 15. I also wear mineral makeup which does have an element of natural physical sunscreen. I've started seeing hand creams and lotions with SPF in them lately which is great--we totally tend to not think about our hands but the sun really ages them too!
I skirted around SPF's for many years, and tried to get by with just my foundation as protection. It's difficult when your skin leans toward oily. However, I am now pround to say that I use no less than a 30 on my face! Yay! For the past 5 months I've been using Kinerase Photofacials Day SPF 50 (I'm not going to lie, it's a little sticky, but it's mineral). I can only use chemical sunscreens sparingly, because they cause me to get little bumps after continual use. Mineral sunscreens have come a long way--no more crazy whitish glows to the face. After my Photofacials is gone, I'm just going to use Kinerase Cream, and either Clarins SPF 40 or Chanel's new SPF. I still have to get ahold of Chanel's ingredient list before I use that one.
I use a mattifier with an spf, and then always a foundation with at least a 15. For years, though, until recently, I had a major tanning bed addiction. I'm embarassed to say that I had one membership near my home, and another near my office, an hour away. I used both twice a day, 5 days a week, and on the weekends, never missed the one near home. I put a towel over my face and neck and used self-tanner to make those areas match. What finally stopped me was when my father, who is equally fair-skinned, but for years did his weekend gardening without any suncscreen, starting coming back from monthly dermatologist visits with pieces of his face cut off, because all the sun had caused melanomas. So I forced myself to quit cold-turkey, and whenever I see someone's leathery face with a dark tan, I'm glad I did. But there are still times when I really miss the relaxation of it, I used to take the 30 minute bed and have a little nap, and walk out looking all tanned and refreshed. Just writing about it makes me miss it, but nothing is worth skin cancer, so I won't. Probably.
I use SPF 55 on my face daily, under my foundation. A little obsessive yes, however I used to be big sun worshipper, and did a lot of indoor tanning thus, creating a lot of sun damage in my skin. I haven't been in a sunbed for about 2 years now, it was my addiction and I had to stop cold turkey or I wouldn't be able to stop myself. I just try not to think about tanning. Plus it is very dry now, so I am freaked about wrinkles. This sounds like a product for me!
I admit it...I don't use a spf anything. I will use some if I am spending a day in the sun but I don't use anything on a day to day basis. I am always so afraid that my acne prone skin is going to get clogged and lead me into misery.I have yet to find a lotion with spf that doesn't clogg my pores. The last one I tried actually filled the pores on my chest and I saw little white pores after I had showered. I had to practically scrape that stuff out of my skin. So needless to say, I am very unsure of these kinds of products...but I have heard nothing but good things about this company.

I have foundation with spf in it, but I usually try to stay out of the sun otherwise =)
On summer I use a special product: a sunscreen. On winter I only use a foundation with SPF.I`m not addicted to sun, I only go tanning on summer. However when I sunbath I stay less than an hour because the sun damages the skin.
You need spf living in FL, but unless I know I'm going to be going outside I usually skip the lotion and rely on the foundation since it's too hot here and so we hardly go out until the sun's gone :D
I try to avoid the sun and wear a separate sunscreen and then put my foundation on over that (which has spf15). I should have started doing this years ago. I have heard so much about this line...good things.
My daily moisturizer is spf 25 or so so that's what I usually use... Unless I'm going to the beach (not happening now that I'm in NYC) in which case I use higher SPF. I don't really see the point in putting more on since it tends to give me a white cast :( I think it's enough for the winter months at least!
xoxo
As a red head I love anything with SPF over 30 because I never find anything good! Thanks so much!
Since i dont wear foundation every day at the moment, i have to sue an spf.. I use Olay complete defense for sensitive skin. It is fine, but I always feel there might be something better out there for me.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I've been using clinique moisturiser that has no SPF protection. I did switch to an Oil of Olay one with was a high SPF but I found it irritated my skin and overall caused more break-outs.I'm currently on the look out for a good moisturiser that combines SPF and great skin without being too greasy!
I lke this, looks like a good dispenser it's packaged in. Good thing it has combined SPF. Key to perfect flawless skin!
Ive never tanned a day in my life, nor have I ever had a tan accidentally. I am as pale as they come, but the sun loves my skin when it comes to the colour of cherry red; I'm a total target when it comes to sun burns. Sadly, i've also endured sun damage beyond my years, with scarring all over my body. Im super conscious of SPF now because of this damage, as well as my family's history of skin cancer. If its a quick absorber, you've got my interest. I find that many sunscreen moisturizers are heavy on the skin and leave it almost oily. I'll have to see how this one goes!
I use a natural sunscreen and only need it in summer. I don't use a moisturizer with SPF as I don't know of any natural one and I avoid chemical sunscreens.
I wear mineral make-up daily so I rely on that for my sun protection.
for spf, i like it to be in my moisturizers. i've yet to find one withOUT a sunscreen-like texture that actually MOISTURIZERS, not just a lightweight moisturizer.
I've never heard of this brand before.
sad to say...i havent used my spf at all. sad coming from a redhead =( i think ill try some in my foundation though...that sounds easiest
