GETTING TO KNOW ROXYSURFINGRL28! SPOTLIGHT ON KELLY HOYT!
Name: Kellie Hoyt
Age: 23
Vocation: I am a Hair Stylist!
What is in your purse? Besides tons of papers, pens and all that stuff... I have 2 Burt's Bees chapsticks, a Mark. Juice Gems in fig, a Mark. Glow baby glow luxe lipgloss in petal, a Mark. Metallluscious lip gloss in Opulence and Proactiv Daily Oil control.
Guilty Pleasure: My Guilty Pleasure is anything on Bravo! Housewives of... flipping out, top chef project runway (I know it moved!) I love tv! And a pedicure! I LOOOOOVE pedicures!
Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: I have fair combination skin. I have awful break outs UNDER the skin which is a pain! I don't have the big red things but i can never get rid of the little bumps on my forehead! I am always looking for something to help!
Beauty inspiration: People who can do amazing makeup! I can do hair like there is no tomorrow but I am useless when it comes to make up! I would love to be able to do something great! But I'm just dumb when it comes to it!
Top 3 skincare products:
Proactiv is all that i know right now! Ive been using it since I was 16! I recently just switched to something new... I will get back to you on how it works! =D
Top 3 tools of the trade:
1. Kabuki Brush - Love that I can put blush on it close it up, put a top on it and a few hours later i can reapply!
2. Hook ups - Love to hook up a matching gloss and eye shadow! Or switch it up and add a wink stick!
3. Snap to it case - Because it's magnetized. When my eye shadow or blush runs out I just replace it instead of throwing the whole thing away!
Best beauty secret/tip: On a lazy day home, wash your hair and apply a hydrating conditioner and leave it on for a few hours while you do laundry or clean the house! It will make colored/ over-processed hair feel nice and soft!
Three current beauty products you'd like to buy:
1. Make up that's easy for me (me, the make up challenged) to use and play with.
2. A cleanser that WILL actually make my break out disappear like all the other ones have promised.
3. Anything high end that I have never before been able to use but have read and dreamed about my whole life! =D
Great knowing you Kellie! Why is it so hard for you to apply makeup on successfully? Have you experimented enough?
And we love pedicures too!
What's your favorite place in your area to go for pedicures ladies?

:) good getting to know you! I love that you dont LOOK like a girly girl, but you still love makeup and "girly" things!
hey kellie! i'm super ticklish so that's what has prevented me from getting pedicures. I actually have a gift certificate to a nail salon that I've used part of for a manicure but I'm so afraid I may accidentally kick the person giving me a pedicure. i know i'm missing out!
check out my blog

iam sooo tickalish to!! there is a few parts where you want to jump out of your skin but GOOOO get it done.. you will love it!!!
Watching countless youtube videos has definitely done the most to help me with my makeup application, you should definitely give those a try! I'm pretty useless when it comes to hair, so I'm jealous of your skill there!
proactive... heard one good thing, and many bad things about it!why'd you stop using it?
It just wasnt working for me! every time i see a commercial i want to scream! haha
I would recommend going to your dermatologist. Its not as expensive or out of reach for anyone needing to address their skin concerns. That is really what saved me and I used Proactiv for years without results like I have now. I think we are complete opposites. I have a few hours of cosmetology school under my belt with avid plans to finish and I am a natural with make-up application but not so much with hair! Lol! I love your beauty tip. What a great way to multi task!

I agree with ref26, you tube videos have been a great help to me, smokey eye, blush, and how to choose right color lipstick and lip liner...check it out! Nice meeting you
I have always struggled with those under the skin bumps as well. No matter how much I try to take care of my skin, they always seem to be there! I would recommend trying some Mario Badescu products (you can fill out a skin assessment on the website and get free samples based on the products they recommend for you!) However, I still haven't found the "miracle cure" : ) Thanks for sharing about yourself!
Oh my goodness, I so wish I could handle pedicures. My feet are so incredibly ticklish though, I can't stand it. I had a pedicure this summer in the town in live in and I'm pretty sure that's the last one I'll ever have. :( I do like manicures though.

Hi Kelly! I am so jealous that you are great with hair. I get so frustrated with my hair anymore that I'm about to go and have most of it chopped off again. I agree that Youtube videos are the best way to see how to apply makeup. ALso you really just need to take a day when you can stay home and just experiment. It's an awesome way to find what works for you without having to rush or be seen with something on you don't like. The hookups from mark are cool. I have tons of glosses, an eyeliner and concealer from them. The snap to cases are also very nice. Thanks for sharing with us.
nice to meet you!!i envy people who can do their hair! my hair has been in the same shape for years, just longer or shorter. I'm too scared to do anything to it :(

Nice to meet you! I wasn't that great at makeup a few years ago either, but recently I've invested in some brushes (EcoTools & the ELF Studio line are GREAT ones to try & they're cheap) and watch some of the amazing youtube makeup videos out there.
hey! im still doing the whole getting the makeup thing right.... lol it harder than some people make it look (*cough* You tube makeup gurus!!!!)lol I can just pull off simplicity right now!Good luck though!

Hello Kellie! Lovely to meet you. I agree on the pedicures! OHHHH LORRRD is there anything better than having your feet pampered?! :D
Nice to meet you....I am also a bravo junkie. as well as project runway....although this season the judges keep making me mad.
I think it's so cool that you're good with hair! I can never get my hair to look the way I want it, bummer. :(I love experimenting with make up though, and I think you can't really be bad at makeup per se, just keep playing with it and you'll get the hang of it! My philosophy is, even if it comes out weird at least it's fun!
Nice to meet you Kellie, I have never had a pedicure because I just can't bare people touching my feet I don't know why but my leg just kicks out so if I had one I'd end up kicking the person in the face So Not Good :-) hehehe
Hello! I'd see a derm regarding the bumps on your forehead. I get bumps (not red, just skin color) too and my derm would extract them by slicing them open -- gross, but it's not painful at all since he applied anesthetic. Some of them were not pimples, they were perspiration that were trapped under my skin. It seems that the things that I'd been applying to my face does not allow my pores to purge normally. I love pedicures too but the hygiene freak in me had been stopping me from going.. so now I DIY when I'm not feeling lazy.
Hi Kelly, its nice to meet you. I have never had a pedicure. Maybe I should treat myself to one this summer...
Heyy, nice to meet you. Cute picture:) and thanks for the tips.
You tube i NEEEVER even though about that!! thank you so much for the advice!!
Nice to meet you Kellie! I have used your beauty secret/tip many times, it really does work!
Great to meet you Kellie! I love your beauty tip, I'm going to try it next weekend. You tube tutorials are a great way to learn how to apply make-up. The other great thing is practice. I used to practice every sunday morning before I had a shower. I'd do a different look on each eye then get in the shower and wash it all off.

Hi Kellie: I actually was a pedicurist, only because I was forced to do it in Beauty School. One time in school I had a patron who was an auto-mechanic. He came in for a manicure & had filthy hands with tons of oil & grease under his nails. As soon as I started trying to dig the gunk out of his nails I began to feel nauseated from the smell. Getting gasoline smells bad enough and sometimes makes me feel lightheaded. I ended up feeling like I was going to faint, so someone else had to do him. I felt so sick I actually had to lay on the floor. I'm sure you have some great stories from beauty school too. I could write a book.Congratulation's on your spotlight!!!
"I swim outside the fish bowl" Quote by Me
i also had to do mani/ pedis in beauty school.. SOOOO Gross.. When i get a pedi cure i make sure iam cliped and washed and all that stuff.. some people just dont care! its AWEFUL!!! haha iam right there with you!
good getting to know you! i know exact;ly what you mean about forehead bumps i had them for agggesss! (not red spots just bumps?!) I didnt moisturise for years because my skin is oily so i thought it would make it worse but since i have started moisturising twice a day the oilyness is pretty much non existent and the bumps on my forehead?.......what bumps?! x
We have the same skin problem, but I don't think Proactiv is working for me. I need serious help!As for makeup, I really get a lot of inspiration from watching youtube gurus do their thing. Maybe you should try and watch some tutorials, and then try doing your makeup! :)Great tip on the conditioner, I'll try that sometime! :)
Nice to meet you Kellie! I love pedicures too, it's so relaxing having someone pamper your feet!
So you're a hairstylist? I am really hair stupid. I can only straighten it and do ponytails. Maybe i could do your makeup and you could do my hair :D.
OMG!! HOW SOON CAN WE MAKE THAT HAPPEN?!?!?! hehehe
I wasn't thrilled with my last pedicure BUT the place where I got my most recent manicure did a great job--might have to try there for a pedi. The little strip mall shops are the way to go--much less expensive than a spa and usually just as good or better quality work :)
Nice to meet you! I am not always succesful with applying makeup either. I wish I could have multiple colors of eyeshadow and not make it look like its just one color however it rarely works... :( *sigh*
Hi Kellie, nice to meet you! Yep, youtube rocks! That's how I learned to apply eyeshadow, now I'm an e/s junkie!
I'm a total Bravo addict!!! Especially the Real Housewives series, I can't get enough!
I suck at hair...I can do others but not mine! I never know why!!!!!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
It's nice to get to know you Kellie.I too have had a problem with acne forever (like 13 years now). My mom said I would grow out of it (still waiting mom). I use proactiv too but it doesn't solve the problem. I have tried paula's choice AHA & BHA acids (they don't actually hurt...just exfoliate) and those really helped to clean out my pores.I hope you find something that really works for you...and than share it with us.I can't get pedicures...my feet are too tickleish!

Hi Kelly. Nice to meet you. I wish I could do hair. I just don't have the touch I'm afraid. No matter how I try, I can never get it to look as good as my stylist does, so I envy your ability to do it! Proactive did not work for me either. I couldn't even give it a solid try because my face burned so badly when I used it. Proactive is benzoyl peroxide based, so maybe try something with salicylic acid? Good luck in finding a miracle product. And if you do find it, make sure and share it with us! :)
Everything on your wishlist is definitely something that I need too! Seriously, who doesn't need an easy to use product, or high-end luxuries, or the perfect cleanser?I feel like a lot of times we're just overwhelmed by the amount of makeup available and we're really a lot better than we think we are... blame it on the magnified mirrors for insecurities!
xoxo
Nice to meet you! I think that maybe you should just experiment with more makeup. I had to experiment forever with some makeup before I got it right. I'm still experimenting all the time. And I agree with the youtube. Youtube is a awesome way to learn how to do makeup better. Some of the videos are very entertaining too. I definitely recommend watching the makeup tutorials on there.
I'm also on the same boat! I'm discovering makeup, trying brands, colors, everything! Just keep faith and work that technique, watch youtube, document yourself!
i have yet to find an acceptable pedicure since i moved back to dc. there was a couple decent places when i lived in atlanta and now everywhere here sucks. people have actually made me bleed. what the heck?

I like the make up that's easy for me answer, I totally feel like I am make up challenged to sometimes.

I too love Burt's Bees chapstick and anything on Bravo TV. I love all the housewives and I love that crazy OCD guy from Flipping Out. I wish I could be his assistant! That's a great idea you had about using a lazy day to do a several-hour deep conditioning treatment, but my lazy days are usually the days where I don't even leave my PJs all day so showering is out of the question!
nice to meet you! loved this, and i agree - i want a high end makeup as well!
great to get to know you! gotta love make up! :P
Wow, you're pretty
