DR. HAUSCHKA DAILY FACE CARE KITS! TRIED AND TESTED!
Sweetassgal here checking in for this weeks edition of Green Chi Tuesdays! If there is any ONE beauty secret I learned from my mother it's to take good care of your skin. From a very early age Mom was always trying to teach me the best ways to take care of our sensitive and redness prone dermis. When most mom's were busy nights watching Johnny Carson (pre-Leno for you young one's) or diving for bon bon's, my gorgeous mother was giving all of my best girlfriends lessons on steam facials and mud masks. She even set up little individual mirror and face cloth stations around our kitchen table so we could get a good look at before and after pore sizing. That and the constant reminder to "brush your face and wash your teeth"...yes she said it just like that...every night really helped me develop conscientious skin care habits. Now if she could only keep me from picking at my blackheads, but that's another habit that will take Pavlov himself and enough pharmaceuticals to take down Shamu to cure!
As mentioned in a previous post I tried out the Dr. Hauschka Daily Face Care kit courtesy of Stylemama just before my sojourn to Hawaii in September. I really do love trial kits because you get a chance to see what works and what doesn't and you also get to test beauty companies theories that you HAVE to use their products in conjunction with each other to really work at optimal effectiveness. I can say without a doubt that I DID find some things that work for me and I DON'T think you have to use it all to really get the best results. Off the bat I absolutely could not recommend the Cleansing Cream. I found the smell horrific, the texture unpleasant and the consistency not in the least bit pampering. It made it hard to want to continue with the rest but I was certainly glad I did. The Normalizing Day Oil and the Clarifying Toner, however, are absolutely wonderful! I started out with it in Hawaii and the humidity combined with the change in air really wrecked havoc on my skin so I decided to postpone the test and try it out on my home turf. I'm SO glad I did because its so much more effective for me that way. The Normalizing Day Oil hydrates me enough to not have to use a moisturizer and the Clarifying Toner is the perfect companion to keep my skin from going into oil over-production.
Let me just say that you literally just need a few tiny drops of this oil to effectively treat your skin. Apply after cleansing and using the toner by placing a few drops on your fingertips, rubbing them together lightly and then pressing through your skin. Add a drop or two of water to the mix and this is sufficient to cover face and neck. I concentrate on my cheeks (where most of my redness is) and my dry spots and leave the last few bits for the oilier T zone. This area really doesn't need much in the way of moisture. The toner is a great prepping tonic for the skin because it's not too drying and not sticky...that's just the worst. Together they are really effective and with all things Dr. Hauschka their Skin Care products are infused with vital extracts of organic and biodynamically grown plants. Baby Love attested to the wonders of Dr. H's Soothing Mask and now you have two more really great products to add to the lineup. Like I said...I wasn't impressed at all with the cleanser, though I read there are fans of it, but for me there are lots of great cleansers that make me super scent happy so I'll stick with those for now.
My mom would be SO proud of my nightly routine and would be even happier to know that her lessons of my youth did not go to waste. In fact, there are many, many other gems that actually sunk into my head as well. I guess I should give her a call sometime and let her know that and to thank her for being such a cool mom. How many mom's you knew gave facials at slumber parties, let us raid her makeup and high heels, and STILL had time to bake a mean batch of brownies at two o'clock in the morning?
Thank you's aren't just for Mothers Day! So everyone, let us know what great beauty basics your mother taught you and what lessons you learned that she just might have thought got away. GLAM ON mothers and daughters!

Thanks for the review sweetsassgal. Your mother sounds amazing!! My mother has always stressed the importance of washing your face. That was a big one. The only way my mother could get me to do my nails was to paint them for me afterwards, so I always appreciate a nice polish. I can't emphasis enough how much my mother's insistence on a finishing powder has influenced me. When wearing liquid foundation, and especially when wearing mineral foundation, a finishing powder makes all the difference!
My mother taught me very well, she had me doing a good skin care routine when I was in primary school. Having eczema I always had to take care of my skin anyhow, but I'm sure it's thanks to the routine Mum got me in that I have good skin now.

oh i've always seen those in dept stores! but never got around to testing it out because i thought they were probably only enough for 1-2 applications (i use cleanser/moisturiser like a mad man!).my mum hasnt' really introduced me to any beauty routines other than intricate dental hygiene and aloe vera.

The product looks nice but I'm just a sucker for packages and that little tin it comes in is just too cute :$
My grandma took milk baths and when my sister and I stayed at our grandparents house for the night she'd have us bathe in milk.

That's interesting.. Never heard of that before. But relating back to the article - I cannot stand products that have a weird smell at all, let alone put those to my face
I love kits like this -- great for trials and travel. On my mother -- she is quite the opposite. She tried to stop me from starting a facial cleanser -- saying I was too young for such things (I was 13). Maybe she doesn't believe beauty could come from within bottles, jars, compacts and tubes.
What a fun post! Now I want brownies.... I'm often skeptical about lines where you 'have to use the whole set for it to work!' I think thats a marketing ploy in 90% of the products. I tried an Arbonne face line a few years ago, and it was a 7 step process (WAY to much for a mom with 2 jobs and a husband that travels!). I felt it was way too much and my face felt beat up by the end of it! And heavy! But...I love just the eye cream. Could I buy just the eye cream??? No! So guess how much money Arbonne got from me? None! Too bad for them, right? I like that you can buy some of this stuff individually. And thanks to Babylove I was able to try the soothing mask and I liked it, and my husband uses it weekly to alleviate razor burn. Great line!
Hmmm, I can't really recall any specific skincare advice from my Mom, maybe just to use a simple cleanser. (Bells and whistles aren't necessarily needed in a cleanser.) She was very into makeup, however. It was funny that she told me I couldn't wear makeup until I was 15, but she started buying it for me a couple of years sooner!!! My Mom and Grandma would always fight over who got to make me up for Halloween. Sometimes when I visit back home, I get "yelled" at for not wearing more lipstick. I prefer a fancier eye and a more neutral lip, but maybe out of habit, I tend to don the neutral lip even when my eyes are not dressed up to the nines. :)The Normalizing Day Oil sounds fab, but I'd have to add SPF over that, and I'm not sure if I'd like that. I try to use multi-purpose products, like day moisture with built in SPF. I'd hate to have a Day Oil, a Night treatment, AND and SPF. I like to TRY to pack light... (notice I said "try"!)
Thanks so much for the review! I still haven't tried Dr Hauscka's products myself even if I've heard about them from many friends. I will definitely try them at some point. My mother didn't give me any beauty-related advice as far as I can remember. She doesn't really use many products herself and never uses make up so I think that is why. Me and my sister are pretty much the opposite though.
I think I've taught my mom more about beauty than she ever did me haha. She has never really been into makeup or appearance, all the makeup she has (which she only wears for special occasions) is old and crappy, I use my stuff on her for occasions now. I also took her to get her brows done for the first time ever this past summer, and helped her with filling them in. I think she has a pretty basic skincare routine with Mary Kay products, not much beyond washing and moisturizing.
I actually taught my Mother about beauty rituals and makeup and my teaching went right in one ear and out the other. She has no interest at all in beauty products, her only must have products are grapefruit shower gel and Olay Regenerist face cream. I have often teasingly referred to her as a hippie, but really she is just a totally natural woman. When I was about ten she gave me the following advice "Men don't care about any of that stuff, as long as you take a shower and brush your teeth." Oh well, I have enough interest in beauty products for the both of us, probably for ten women. Thanks for the great review. I have recently stepped up my facial care routine and will keep an eye out for this set.

My mom might sound bad because she never gave me advice on skincare. That's because she wasn't into it until now that she's older. She doesn't even wear makeup, just a spot of gloss that she borrows from me on rare occasions. She's a very simple woman, she even learns more from me than I from her on that department!
My mother has beautiful skin, even now at age 70. Her big thing was wearing sunscreen. She would chase us around with zinc oxide when we were in the backyard slathered in baby oil...it was the 70's!
I just love the package!! This is a great review, thank you! My mother always practiced good beauty treatments but never really shared them with me. I had to figure everything out myself, but it's all good, we share everything else!
my mom and I never talked about girly stuff.... it was wierd?? When I got my period she bought me the book "Mommy whats happening to my body" and a bottle of hair dye.Lol that was the extent of our gily bonds. However my mother excelled in other things. She was my girl scout leader for much of schooling, volunteered in my classes, cooked fabulous home cooked meals every night for us and was th best mother ever. It just never really clicked to do makeup and hair and stuff I donno why?Lol so I kinda had to figure it al out on my own. And I got my curly hair from my dad so no help there!I really want to get this normalizing day oil, im saving for it right now.I need something for use during the day, but I dont usually use moisturizers so this would be perfect! Thanks for the tip on the cleaner, I was thinking of getting the kit but I might as well just buy the oil since I already have a reliable toner.
Tan is Love
My mum isn't really a girly girl. We talk about quite a huge amount over a huge amount of topics, but skincare and makeup just don't interest her! The one piece of advice she gave me is to always moisturise your face! She has done that everday since she was younger and she still looks great. So thats the one gem that I keep from her (plus our other wonderful talks!)
My mom actually taught me a lot. She taught me about skin creams and basicmakeup. As she has gotten older thoughshe has slided back with makeup. She saysnow though (after Rebecca taught mestuff) she is more inspired to be agoddess again :D

My mom always told me to stop picking at my face too! And she let me play with her makeup, and bought me my first facial cleansers from the drugstore to help with my acne. She takes good care of me :)

I love the look of this sample pack - I'm with you, Sweetassgal I adore trying products in sample packs so I'm 110% sure I want to purchase the full-sized ones. : ]
I love that this product got a semi-negative review since it really shows that the writers are honest and objective.
I have sensitive skin with many skin problems. I did not have much help from my mom but i think you girls would love this...http://www.skinvie4u.com
thanks for the review! my mother never really taught my sister and i how to cleanse our faces as she never was taught either. but this product looks and sounds amazing.
my mum use the Clarins brand and now i use the same brand and i'm not disapointed !!!
SAG, so sorry for the tardy response! I'm in total agreement with you, didn't like the cleansing cream but loved the other products. I'm so happy you enjoyed the product. If you keep using it I'm sure the benefits will continue to enhance your already beautiful complexion. Brooklyn007, you would definitely want to add an spf over the Normalizing Day Oil, it is intended to serve in the same manner as a serum would. Something like, cleanse, tone, Normalizing Day Oil and then day cream w/spf. I hope you like it as much as I do!
I love the look of these little kits but I am always afraid that the product will run out after 1 use and I won't know if it was any good yet.I wish my mom had taught me some beauty basics. She still doesn't wear m/u and on the very rare occasion that she does, she won't even wash off her face that night.
I am religious about my skin care routine because I have very acne prone skin and I just can't mess around.

I absolutely love these kits! Buy them before any kind of long trip. And always have some left to use when I get back.
I've tried some Dr.Hauschka product samples but I wasn't too impressed.
this looks amazing! i really want to try this!
