GETTING TO KNOW TONETTE! SPOTLIGHT ON ANTOINETTE MORGAN!

Mon, 10/19/2009 - 4:33pm
  • Meghead Spotlight!
  • Miscellaneous

antoinetteName: Antoinette Morgan

Age:
21

Vocation:
Current Fitness & Health Student

What is in your purse?
Other than my purse being filled with mints and a huge bottle of water... right now I carry around my Nivea chapstick (a must have at all times), MAC blot powder, and my Sexy Curves Mascara.

Guilty Pleasure: Shopping for bras and jeans and mascara. Whenever I go out, I always end up coming back with either of the three or all.

Skin color, type and any special skin concerns:
I guess we can call my complexion "chocolately". I would say I have oily skin (and it really doesn't help that I'm always touching it :S ), my main skin concern is acne scarring. I don't get a lot of pimples, but when I do, they have a tendency to leave marks on my face even if I don't bother them.

Beauty inspiration: I will DEFINITELY give this credit to my momKiss She goes for the natural look by just wearing blot powder and lipgloss and keeping her eyebrows done all the time. Her skin is also gorgeous, she's nearly 50 yet she still looks 30. I hope to look like that when I'm 50 too.

Top 3 skincare products:
1. Spectro Jel Face Cleanser - feels nice and cool on the skin and keeps my skin clear :) I have tried plenty of stuff and this is the only one that hasn't actually caused me to break out... I love it! <3
2. St.Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Lotion - love the smell, love the feeling, and it keeps my face and body nicely moisturized throughout the day.
3. Softsoap Exfoliating Body Wash - I don't generally like bodywashes that have all these extra "moisturizers" in them (and they most do), so this bodywash is perfect since it focuses on exfoliating. Inside of it are little bits of sea salt. Even without using a sponge/loofah/rag you know your skin still gets the exfoliation it needs. So, at the end of every shower my skin comes out feeling nice and soft and smooth.

Top 3 tools of the trade:
1. Eyelash Curler - I can't believe I went so long without using this before! This plus my mascara has me staring at my eyelashes all the time now :D
2. Tweezers - these bad boys have me feeling like a whole new woman when I'm done with them <3
3. "Posh" Travel Kit - this set comes with a powder brush, foundation brush, concealer brush, smokey & eyeshadow brush and an eyeliner/brow brush, all in a cute compact pouch. Though I mainly use the powder brush, I like using a brush opposed to using those makeup pads, simply because it just looks and feels more natural to me and evens out better.

Best beauty secret / tip:
Dry and cracked lips are a HUGE no no to me, so after the time you take to brush your teeth, take the toothbrush (or another old toothbrush) and just brush your lips with some water. Cheap and effective way to keep your lovely lips smooth :) oh, and to compliment your smile!

Three current beauty products you'd like to buy:
1. Smashbox Layer Lash Primer - I already have long lashes, but I'm always looking for a way to make them look even longer and especially thicker!
2. Organics To Clear Skin Kit - even though I'm happy with my Spectro jel, this facial cleanser set sounds pretty effective just by reading some of the reviews. And who doesn't like organic stuff?
3. A foundation primer - I haven't exactly figured out which brand I would want to buy, but it definitely seems like a good investment!

Thank you for sharing Antoinette! It's great to get to know you.

Nice to meet you Antoinette! I love bra shopping too! You can't let me into Victoria's Secret without me going a little bit crazy. LOL. Jean shopping, not so much. I hate trying to find that perfect pair of jeans.I also use my toothbrush to get the dry skin off my lips in the morning. It's a great way to prime for a nice gloss. Thanks for sharing with us!

Hi! I don't use foundation primer, but I have tried Smashbox Photo Finish primer before and it was pretty nice. It has very good ratings on all the reviews I've read about it too. They have a "light" formula which I believe is oil-free or at least better for oily skin. :)

Hey Antoinette! It was lovely getting to know you a bit more. My mom is one of my beauty inspirations as well. She doesn't wear an ounce of makeup. She just uses moisturizer and I love her for that. My mom has really soft skin and she barely has any wrinkles. She actually hates that I wear face makeup but she's gotten used to the idea.

As for primers, I have to agree with rubysbeauty. I've heard a lot of great reviews about Smashbox so maybe you could get a sample size to try it out. When I do wear primer, I often use the Monistat Chafing Powder gel. I hope that helps and good luck trying to find a primer that works for you.

Me three, melilala! :) I actually have an extra toothbrush just for that (one of the free ones from the dentist), and I usually put a little bit of vaseline/Aquaphor on my lips while I'm rubbing the toothbrush :)Very nice to meet you, Antoinette :) I also lug around a big Nalgene full of water, and am looking for the perfect primer :( Smashbox didn't work for me, Kumaara didn't, Korres didnt (although for dry skin it was great), Magic of Aloe didn't, Milk of Magnesia didn't, Clarins Instant Perfection (?) didn't, LORAC aquaPRIME didn't... I'm starting to think my oily skin is hopeless.

Nice to meet you Antoinette! You are gorgeous! So interesting getting to know you, I do the toothbrush thing too. :P I also recommend the Smashbox Photo Finish primer. It's really great! Definitely get a sample of it if you can, cause I know some people don't like it. I also use aloe vera gel as a primer and I love the results I get with that too. :D

I enjoyed reading about you - you seem like a real sweetheart.  I especially loved reading about your mother being your inspiration.  I also recommend Smashbox primer - but right now I'm mostly using the Monistat chafing gel.  It's very inexpensive and works great!

So nice to meet you Antoinette!  Wow, you have a great smile.  I use the toothbrush trick too; it also works with a washcloth.  That brush set is neat - dual ended brushes would certainly save room in the makeup case.  A girl can never go wrong with eyelash curlers and tweezers.  I've never heard of Smashbox Lash Primer.  I wonder how it holds up to UD's.  Smashbox Photo Finish is really good, but of course, try out Monistat Anti-Chafing gel first cause it's basically the same.  Then, there's no big investment if you don't like it.

Nice to meet you.   I wouldn't recommend the Smashbox lash primer.  I actually took mine back to Sephora because I hated it.  After using it is it practically impossible to cover up the white no matter how much mascara you put on.  Then you are left with gross clumpy mascara.  I would recommend the new Urban Decay lash primer instead.  I had no problems getting it to blend in with mascara, and my lashes look so fierce with it on I only use it for nights out.  Any hey, Meg herself loves it, so that should be plenty of endorsement.

Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

Nice to meet you Antoinette, I just love your name! I also treasure my tweezers, I always carry them around! I don't use a foundation primer, just a good moisturizer. As the others have suggested, Monistat is a good thing to try if you're not willing to spend the big bucks on Smashbox.

Nice to meet you! I love exfoliating my lips with an old toothbrush. So effective and easy!Definately try a few primers, there are ones out there now which are more skin type specific so try one of those which are suited to your skins needs! Lots of ladies have also had success with Monistat!!

I always thought eyelash curlers dont work for me (apart from my heated one which is like a mascara wand-but i always run out of batteries for it which is a pain in the butt!) I keep reading that its everyones must have tool, I am going to buy a non battery powered one and give it another shot (i think i just used it wrong when i was younger)was lovely meeting you! The stuff you said about your mum was sooooo sweet! =)

Hi! :) If you are not allergic/against silicone, try the sephora silicone foundation primer or clarins lisse minute. Both are awesome and work well with oily skin. I love them both though I go more for the sephora one when I'm a tighter on money.

Hi Antoinette! I also LOVE my Sexy Curves mascara (and bras.. that's something I'll never not love!). I never was a big mascara person, while I used it I wasn't obsessed.. but lately I've been all about it! I also use a toothbrush on my lips, mine are always dry and cracked (not enough Vitamin B). And I'm with you on the Smashbox lash primer and foundation primer-- I'd LOVE thicker lashes, and there are so many foundation primers out there, it's hard to pick!

Nice to learn more about you!I love mascara shopping. I just bought a new one but already have my eye on another one I would like. Wouldn't it be great if somehow you could try a bunch of mascaras and decide which one you like best?I personally hate bra shopping. I am not particularly well endowed in tha section and it is very hard to find a bra that fits perfectly and gives me a little extra oomph.

I too love Rimmel Sexy Curves!  I've switch between it and Lash Blast.  I love them both and can't decide which is my favorite.  The only problem I have with Sexy Curves is that it flakes a bit by the end of the day.  Lash Blast doesn't do that, but I don't like the Lash Blast brush as much.  Overall, I'd probably pick the Sexy Curves...the wand is just too cool not to love!
