DONATI FAMILY VINEYARD! MEGSMAKEUP.COM WRITER'S WINETASTING TIPS! PART 1!

Mon, 10/19/2009 - 8:28am
  • Mondays With Meg
  • Miscellaneous

Meg here! Huge thanks and much love to the Donati Family Vineyard for hosting Megsmakeup.com at their unbelievable winery! Fun is not even a strong enough word to describe it! Apparently after I've had a few glasses I turn into an old British woman. It's OK, it happens to Madonna stone cold sober.

Make a road trip-preferably by limo-and get yourself and your ladies together for a day of wine tasting! Limo is key, split a few bucks between the each of you and no one has to worry about going off-roading after your event! There's just no way you're going to be able to navigate a vehicle (high heels are even a challenge) after you stick your nose into several glasses...

This is part 1 on our trip to Donati-wait until you see how cool part 2 is! I just wanted an introductory clip to show all the Megheads the Donati Family Vineyard background. Our most gracious host Lee gives an interesting history and puts up wonderfully with 8 women and their wacky ways!!

What do you ladies think? Wine tasting perfect girls night out? Who's done one before with the ladies? If I put together a Megsmakeup.com wine tasting event for all of us-who's in?

Experience the best girl bonding wine in the world-for a deal!

This event was wonderful.  I was there and the wine was great and the food was excellent.  The Donati family makes you feel like you are related.  It was the highlight of the writer's retreat.  For anyone visiting the Central Coast this is one place not to miss. You'll learn so much about wine and your tastes buds will be in heaven.

The visit at the Donati Family Vineyard was probably the best part of our trip. Plus, I don't think I've ever really understood the point of combining the right wine with the right kind of seafood till that day. Maybe eating three dozens of oysters and being able to try them with every possible kind of wine played its part! But if it wasn't for the wonderful people at the Donati Vineyard, we wouldn't have had this experience. They really know their wine, they love what they do and know how to throw a party!Meg, you might be turning into Madonna, you should go on a world tour.

Snorting with laughter at the "memory" of the FABULOUS evening at the luscious "Donati" winery! They were as megken says,SO gracious and lovely to us,they literally spoiled us rotten. :)This video is sooooo tame: this was at first arrival and trust me,even I was a giddy-goose after several glasses of their AMAZING wines! "Lee" our host, was reduced to a blushing heap at our antics at the evening progressed.:) He is such a great guy as was the entire group who welcomed us!I can't say enough nice words about the staff, the venue, and the wines themselves, they are truly among the "gems" of the Central Coast and absolutely MUST be enjoyed! We were "bad" there (in that we acted like giggly little girls with all the wine they wanted :) and they loved us in spite of it! Put "Donati" at the top of your "must visit destinations" if ever you get the chance!!!Waves "hi" to megken who was very patient with our hysterical giggles for the most part even when he was trying to film in a barrel-room with bad acoustics,LOL! ;) Eleni and I were BAD...the seafood was among the BEST I'd ever tasted and we were totally hog-ettes and scarfed down so much it was evil. :)I am SOOOOOO IIINNNNNN Meg!!! You know that! :)

I love vineyards!  I grew up near the Finger Lakes, in New York and they had some of the best!  A great idea instead of renting a limo is to just stay the night at  nearby b&b! :)

Yippieee! It's remember-our-visit-to-Donati-Vineyards-day! Ladies, this was off the charts fun! I agree with mjsred – this video IS so tame compared to how the evening really was! First off, prior to the scene where Meg so gracefully exits the limo, we were all drinking champagne while moving our heads and gyrating our bodies to a hot music CD provided by mjsred in the limo! We had so much fun in that limo before we ever got to the vineyard! I think everybody looked serious in that opening first shot going into the vineyard because we were all trying to be respectful, however, just seconds before that scene, we were all laughing, loud-talking, and living-it-up-large, ladies in a long limo! As to the removing our individual sexily dressed bodies from the limo – it definitely was NOT a graceful feat! If any of you have been in a limo you will know that if you have a dress on and heels and it's time to get in or out of the limo, it's impossible to NOT have your dress hike up to your neckline trying to maneuver your legs to get out of the limo without exposing your sexy underwear or lack thereof! It's really quite difficult to maneuver with taste in entering and exiting a limo! I give 100 points to Meg for that beautifully executed and feminine exit out of the car! It's kind of like trying to climb up and out of a sink hole while looking demure! I think they should have some kind of electric chair deal that smoothly lifts you into and out of a limo!
The experience of actually going to a winery was SO exciting! I had never in my life been to one so I was off the charts practically jumping up and down! Our host was so friendly, he made every one of us feel like he was talking to us individually every time he spoke! He was a total EYE CONTACT GUY! Yes! He was friendly and warm and totally open to the crazy antics and personalities and questions of Meg and the Megettes! This was indeed the absolute fun way to start what had to be our best night ever together!
The wines we tasted were just delicious! Drinking and swirling and inhaling the fragrances of the various wines provided such a stimulating experience! I had never purposely inhaled wine before I actually tasted it! Back in the day when I first tasted wine, it was Mogan David Grape Vine my dad let me try at Thanksgiving! There was no sniffing first and I think I drank it out of a regular old drinking glass. My life was so much more exciting drinking wine with Meg and her entourage that day! Then, when we were also treated to the most unbelievably fabulous fresh seafood along with the wines....oh man, the taste buds were in total euphoria! I wish we were still there! Besides how out of this world the the seafood tasted, the presentation was magnificent! This event was FUN times a billion!
The special megheads Donati deal is well worth ordering...you'll look like a pro if you give this as a gift or you'll just have one hell of a sensational wine tasting event in your own home if you purchase it for yourself! Order some today and when it arrives, pour it into your deepest most exquisite wine glass and then pull up these videos and it will be just like you were there with us!

Okay all you girls that went to this wine tasting thing, seriously, noone here looks past 40. This is insane. Either there's work been done, which as stated, nothing wrong with that if it makes you happy. That's all that matters. But Jeanasina saying she's 61? Not even close in that video.. seriously..is someone full of it? You all looked fab, and noone looks aged or older than what I stated previously.

I live near the heart of some of the worlds finest wineries.  Many a wine tasting has been done in Napa and Sonoma and I have never, I repeat never had as good a time or tasted as marevelous a wine as I had at Donati Winery.  Their tasting room is minimalist and classy, our hosts were SO gratious and helpful and the WINE...OMG...the WINE!  Let me tell you everyone on my Christmas list is getting one thing...Donati Winery Pinot Blanc!  OMG...this white was like no white I had ever tasted before!  It was so smooth, not too sweet but not at all oakey and just trickled down my happy tongue!  I am ordering quite a bit for Christmas as they discount more and more for shipping in larger quantities.  Every house I visit this season will be gifted with a lovely bottle.  I'm flirting with the special Megs' Sorrell per Sempre for my besties that only drink reds.  I just LOVED everything about this wine and can't wait to get a few bottles for myself as well!As far as the pairings go...it was TO DIE FOR!  I love seafood...in fact, if it comes out of the ocean I eat it.  But this was special.  Oysters like NO other, caviar with creme fraiche...YUM!  Wakame salad and whole crab claws. I was in super seafood heaven.  GOD BLESS the good folks at Donati for such a FAB party and the BEST part of our trip.  Do yourselves a favor...hit the website and try the Pinot Blanc for whites and the Sorrell per Sempre for reds...you won't be disappointed!  BTW...I've seen WAY higher shipping fees for inferior wines.  This is a steal.LOVE TO ALL!!!

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

Jeanasina, you really do have a quality that makes others smile around you. You must be a very happy person with a very great outlook on life. You do not look your age. You could easily pass for 20 years younger and believe me, I never tell people that. I'm not saying 60 is old, because it's not. I think that is the time when you become more comfortable with who you are. Happiness and smiling does promote radiance and beauty in a person. I am trying to will myself into being this type of person but I need to work on it. I have many interests, want many things in my life but maybe as it states in the book "The Secret" It's your confidence and self worth that attract good things into your life. The book itself didn't seem much different from any other book I've read to be quite honest, but I did understand it. It's just making yourself do it. Getting going and putting everything into motion. It's great to be around positive people, they're always happy. I just need to stop worrying so much because before you know it I'm going to have to ask one of the ladies from the Housewives of wherever show to give me a good doctors name to get rid of my what could turn into a horrid furrowed brow. I really don't want to have the unibrow look that some of those politicians have. That is not good.

It was such a cute show. That was one of my favorite episodes. Wow so you all went to this wine tasting. How fun.  You're near Napa Valley...couldn't ask for such a pretty place. Those area's of Ca are so gorgeous! If Anna Wintour would just step down from her position in Vogue, maybe I could afford all those lovely trips. She may... ya never know. Yeah me Editor in Chief of Vogue. Nice dream though. Gotta admit.

Can't remember what I had but everyone got a bit tipsy as the hosts served us some really strong stuff!

We've been to several in Santa Barbara, some on the Eastern Shore in Virginia, Schnebly near the Everglades, Plymouth Bay Winery, etc.! Great, fun stuff! We love our wine!It would all depend on when, where, and what was going on with my schedule at the time if I could make a MM winery visit. I would love to go, though!

We have to do this again.  Unfortunately in the limo ride over to this fabulous event I came down with the worst migraine I've had in ages. Upon arrival I knew I was going down for the count.  I didn't get to experience this evening in the same way the other lovlies got to but I can tell you this is a place I will be returning to.  The hosts were amazing, never once making me feel any more uncomfortable or embarrassed than I already was.  They showed such grace and compassion towards me, I was very touched and incredibly grateful.  About half way through our evening I had to go lie down in the limo and as the lovely Eleni said, "This has probably been the most extravagant migraine you've ever had!"  On to the vino!  I recently purchased the duo Sorrell per Sempre and plan on gifting it to my best friend.  Of course, that's the kind of gift we will indulge in together!   I really hope we all go back there one day, it's such an extravagant, yet beautifully simplistic place to visit and you won't meet nicer people than these!
