FABULOUS LEGS IN A FLASH WITHOUT BLACK TIGHTS!
So....we ALL have some body parts we like more than others, right? I know that modern sentiment dictates we "love them all regardless" and I try, I really do but sometimes a girl has to resort to some illusion in order to divert attention to the good-stuff and minimize the not so in my opinion.
Goddess Granny here soon to be on her way to Vegas with my fabulous man to see some shows, shop for some shoes, and maybe even get a bit lucky? I'm not much of a gambler but wish me luck anyways!
If I could, I would dress every single day in fabulous black opaque tights and either some sleek boots or shoes that are TDF. I love the ease of it, the EVER so flattering results, and the fact that every single little nick, scar, bug-bite, wayward-vein and bruise are masked to perfection under that layer of beautiful black. Unfortunately, I currently live in the land of the sweltering-sun aka South Texas and this fave look of mine is honestly only worn in reality a few select weeks out of the year: sometimes I DO try out of sheer desperation prompting myself that it's IN STYLE to wear said tights and boots to run errands in but alas, when everything starts to sick in the most unflattering places because it's simply too damn hot, I give up my dream of leg-perfection fast.
I have found a rather fabulous "solution" to my personal beauty bugaboo of "less than perfect bare legs" that I'm dying to share with y'all!
Great and lucky YOU if you have fabulous legs already, I know a tan helps a bunch but I reserve those spray-on wonders for rare events because honestly, even though they "work" they don't last long and anything else in the tanning department is beyond my grasp! Because I HAVE to go out sometimes without black tights and actually do care what my legs look like, aka last night's wedding celebration, I believe I have found a couple of products that when used as I describe, almost insure compliments and no one is the wiser! I get tons of positive feedback and more than a few admiring glances when I take the time to work my own magic.
First of all, there is a understated "miracle product" out there that is whispered about in those glittery dressing rooms where beautiful creatures of the night work their spells before hitting a stage. I know of quite a few who have used this for a long time and no one is the wiser, it has true "cult status" in some circles, trust me. I have simply taken this incredibly effective products a step further. "Airbrush Legs" by the venerable Sally Hansen company is literally perfect legs in a can! This company BTW has been WOWING me lately with their newest offerings in the mass-market departments but that's another story. It comes in three shades and also a "glow" which is simply as it says, a pearl-effect. Around $10.00 a can, which lasts a long time at most groceries and of course Walmart as well. It goes a LONG way but it's the application that I have tweaked a bit: I use the "light" and it's perfect on my pasty-pale seldom see the sun Irish-girl legs. BEFORE you even think about spritzing yourself, it's a great idea to have smooth-legs (method of your choice) and what I do is to apply either some coconut oil or some nice lotion about 1/2 hour before I do anything else...let it absorb and it insures there won't be any blotching.
Give it a really good shake-up and honestly, I do it outside. It does leave a bit of a tell-tale mess if you spray it on your pristine bathroom floor (yeah...who are we kidding!) Or do it over a dark towel. Spray lightly over the larger areas first and don't worry about an even coat. While still damp, just massage evenly over your legs and thighs and very light hit the "high-spots" of knees and ankles. You want to get it on there and then even it out. The can will tell you just to spray but they lie!
Let it set, it dries very quickly and believe me, lasts a LONG time. Does not rub off and is water-resistant. Check a full length mirror for even application, especially behind the knees and if you must, re-do the areas that don't look perfect. If you've chosen a close match in terms of color, you'll be amazed at how VERY nice your legs look! Smells a bit but who cares?
THEN and here's where I literally add a bit of fairy-dust to the freshly applied magic, when you are sure the "Airbrush" is nice and dry, take a mildly-sparkly powder such as my favorite "Marshmallow" by the oh so amazing Urban Decay and using the puff or a brush if you prefer, buff a bit on LIGHTLY along the fronts and back of your shins, on the tops of your feet and toes, and on your thighs if you are lucky enough to be able to show them! Try not to use anything too shiny or sparkly and stay away from the knees, ankles, and other "high spots", you want to simply highlight aka your cheekbones to sculpt in a way and dab on lightly, not leaving streaks or mounds of glitz! Don't do all the skin that shoes, only little bites of it.This results in a glam-sheen that truly makes your legs look PERFECT as well as draw the eye to the prettier places.
Every time I use this technique, people comment on how "nice my legs are" and seem to marvel that I do not have hose on: seriously, unless I have to or they are the much-loved black opaques, I HATE pantyhose and will gladly spend 10 minutes or so decorating my legs so that they are lovely without suffering the pain of the nylon-pull-on's! Is there anything less sexy? If you have those TDF legs already, you are so lucky in my eyes but this little combo of products will take even perfect legs to Bond-Girl status, I have seen it happen!
The Holiday season is coming and no doubt you too may well have to bare your legs for the sake of some killer shoes and a party dress but I promise that if you give this, one of my most frequently used secret solutions a whirl, you'll feel so much more confident and love those legs no matter what shape they're in!
Did I forget to mention that the UD powder is also lightly flavored? LUCKY YOU!
What are you tricks for perfect gams?
Meg here! The model in this photo? None other then my bestie Kristen Osborne who has the best legs in the entire world!

I'm really too lazy to make up my legs, but that sounds like an intriguing process :]I'd also like to say that since moving to NYC I have fallen in LOVE with black tights! :] They do make legs look perfect, without the extra time needed to put makeup on legs!
xoxo
I'll keep these tips in mind next time summer comes around, if it ever gets warm enough to actually go bare legged during a summer night, which doesn't really happen all that often (lucky me can wear opaque tights all year long, at the moment in orange, brown or green to match the sparkling autumn leaves).
Wow, I wish I had gams like Kristen!I basically need more than makeup to make my legs look amazing, I really need to workout!I thought that Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs was only a gimmick, but with Goddess Granny's seal of approval I'll definitely check this out!
I've never tried the Sally Hansen stuff, but I've sure heard raves about it. I remember when it first came out, it sounded too good to be true, but it seems to have stood the test of time. I'll definitely grab a bottle for my next leg-showing occasion!
OMG I literally like just bought this yesterday! At my drugstore, they only had the light glow and the deep glow...I was between minds as to which one to get because I'm not pale, I'm not tanned, I'm a true medium lol. Anyway, after much deliberation I ended up getting the light one.....and it works! It fit my complexion just fine...for my MAC girls, i'm NC42 for ref. One thing though, I didn't buy this for my legs, I actually bought it for my face! That's right ladies!! I was at an event last month and ran into someone I knew, her face literally glowed and she looked like a freakin DOLL. I love anything that will make me look like a DOLL! so I had to ask her what it was....she said it was the sally hansen airbrush legs with some MUFE HD powder untop. I was in shock! I immediately went out in search, and found it but because I thought I'd need Medium I didn't get it...i saw it again yesterday and that's when I got Light. It worked well for me, cuz its sheer....I LOVE IT! I don't look like I have foundation on, but my skin is even and it has a decent coverage and OH YES...I GLOW! :) So far i LOVE THIS!
LOOK at that pic of Kristen??? WOW...I agree, probably about the best legs in the world. :) Okay...now charchar has me thinkin' that she might have an equally amazing use for this perfection in a can? Thanks for the GREAT tip girl!!!And I can embellish on her suggestion in a "boy can I save you some cash" sorta' way:Go to "Coastal Scents" and get some of their silica powder. No,it's not the stuff that will wreck havoc if you inhale it.It's gorgeous and pure.I'm seriously "into" a few of their items right now,I'm dipping my brushes into some "pro-use" stuff lately for chits and grins.http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/388_46/silica-...All info I have and the large jar on my vanity will attest that it's absolutely the equal of MUFE's High Def powder for a helluva' lot less! Doesn't Meg's ROCK???
Nice in theory but in practice? I have visions of smeared legs and lots of personal humiliation. :D
I have got to try this out! I've got pale Irish legs as well and would love to show off my legs but fear of blinding folks when the sun hits my legs scares me. I love Sally Hansen products so this is a no brainer for me to try, thanks for the review and application tips!!
I love, love, LOVE these tips! Thank you for sharing them with us! :DI need to get me some of that Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, I'm always hearing rave reviews about it and now I just want it even more! I love black tights but with summer coming up, it's just way too hot to even think about wearing those... so I will definitely be trying this! :)
Didn't Sally Hansen used to make an Airbrush Face product as well? I never saw it in a store but thought I heard about it. The idea of using it on the face sounds very appealing to me, I've always wondered about trying that when I see the can in the store.

Even if I'm not going anywhere, and no one will be seeing my bare legs but me, I still go through all the effort of exfoliating, moisturizing and self-tanning. But I do use this Sally Hansen product when I want a little extra illusion, it's good stuff.
I've actually been dying to try this product...i've had knee surgery on both my knees and it was reccommended to me. It's supposed to make a huge difference with minimizing the appearance of the scars whenever i want to wear shorts or a skirt that goes above the knees. Can't wait to actually see how well it works!
Well seeing as we've already had snow here I've been rocking the black tights already. Actually here you can pretty much rock them all year long *especially this summer* There is no way I'm going to be bare legged now until July but I'll keep this in mind until then! I've seen the airbrushed legs before and have been intrigued but have never bought it.
I have big fat white veiny legs that end in stumpy cankles, but they take me from point A to point B relatively quickly and pain-free, so I can't complain much. Over the summer, I liked to rub a bit of Eyeko Cream down my shins. It made my legs look somewhat better. I've tried airbrushing my legs, but I didn't like having tanned legs and white everything else, so I'll just skip it from now on.
I also use Eyeko Cream for that. In the summer I mixed it with my sunscreen for legs and arms.
Ooh, this sounds like a great product! I've always been wary of leg make-up, but for a big night out this sounds like it would be perfect. I like the idea of it being water-proof and rub resistant!I show my legs almost every day, as I live in a very tropical climate and I would absolutely swelter otherwise. :P They're not too bad, but for a big day at the races or a glam event I can see that I would have a use for this. Thanks for another great review! :D
What a great review! I love when a review inspires and teaches, and that's just what this one did. I was a dancer for many years, so I guess the habit of keeping my legs viewer-friendly is ingrained. I spend so much time on my boyfriend's boat over the summer that I really don't have a chance to just let them go anyway. I have medium-light skin that I use a self-tanner on year round. Right now I am using Jergen's Firming tanning lotion on my entire body after I shower. Three other practices ensure my legs stay as nice as they can: Pilates, Cellulite Cream and Neosporin. Pilates gives your legs that perfect balance of long, lean and shapely muscles. I always received compliments on my legs, but the compliments tripled once I did Pilates. I received one of the best compliments I've ever gotten over the summer. I was visiting my best friend Kim and another friend of ours stopped by. I was wearing short-shorts and very high wedge heels. Our friend says "how is it that you don't have any cellulite on your legs?" Kim anwers her "Oh, she's been using cellulite cream for 20 years." And the truth is I have. I use cellulite cream twice a day, everyday. I use a caffeine based cream in the day for short term effects and a retinol based cream at night for more long term benefits.Neosporin is for all those cuts and bumps that would otherwise leave a scar. As soon as I get even a small cut on my legs, I put neosporin on it and I reapply it often until it's gone. Msjred, I loved this review and I can't wait to try out your method. You've got me wondering though, what were the other new offerings from Sally Hansen that have been WOWing you?
Indi
I have wondered FOREVER about SH Airbrush Legs--I may have to try it for my next special occasion! To me, a great pair of heels, boots, or boots with heels makes me at least feel like I have great legs, and well, if you feel more confident, you look it!
I use Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs on my pale, white-girl legs when I need to add some WOW factor. It really is fabulous but Goddess Granny is right - you can't just spray and leave it at that. I've been massaging it in lightly, but never thought about the shimmer powder. I have GOT to get some UD Marshmallow to go with it! Thanks so much for the How To lesson!
Carole
sexyyy
The spray on sounds good, its so hard to find a decent fake tan that doesn't go orange. I will definately have to check it out. Kristen Osborne does have amazing legs! I hope you enjoy Vegas Goddess Granny
"Beauty Bugaboo" That made me laugh so hard...I totally forgot about that word!! This sounds really intriguing, I actually forwarded this to my mom who is INSANE about her pale legs! I'm one of the few weirdo's in the world who likes her legs insanely white thankyouverymuch. I do like the idea of putting makeup on your legs, but I'm not sure if my laziness would make it an issue. Probably.

your bestie is absolutely gorgeous and no doubt has pair of the best looking legs i've seen yet!I'd die for good looking airbrushed legs! the colour of my legs are quite pale, and i've had my way with fake tan, the skin is dry and it always end up peeling a bit resulting in patches :( but i just got a cardio twister.. hopefully that'll make my legs look nicer? lol

I KNEW you'd be writing about this when you're talking about perfect legs.I LOVE the Sally Hansen product & have used it a couple of times, its really great. I use medium but probably should use light just because I am rather pasty. It goes on well, easy to apply and you just wash your hands at the end of it.I love, love, love it! Great review! :)
This product is fantastic. No joke. I've used it in the past and it made my not-Irish-but-may-as-well-be-cause-they're-so-white legs look fantastic. I didn't rub it in when I used it and it looked fine to me, but I'll definitely remember that for next time! And that marshmallow powder trick too.Good luck in the casino! Enjoy yourself!
I need to try this. I have super white legs and I've got a wedding coming up soon. Thanks for the tips!

I think it`s a great idea. I usually apply self tanner on my legs to get a better appearance.
Another aspect that worries me about my legs is cellulite but that is harder to hide.
While I love Marshmallow by Urban Decay, Sally Hansen's Airbrush legs was plain icky and messy and fake looking, in my opinion..of course I used it several years ago.. perhaps they've changed the formula?
http://ediblelove.wordpress.com/
hey meg your bestie sure does have killer gams! I always have a problem with friction when wearing skirts, so I always use talc or something (I like to use the ones from Avon - super cheap and smell nice) when biking shorts are too long. Other times, when I'm baring leg, I like to use the Victoria's Secret shimmer brush (it has the glittery scented powder in a container with a brush at the end of it), and it works fine. I've also used bronzer on my legs, but that takes too long and rubs off sometimes (so clearly it's not the brightest idea). I've been wondering about Sally Hansen's Airbrush leg for years already but I've always been skeptical about plopping down ten buckaroos on it withouth hearing about someone other than a magazine's experience.

Thankfully I live in NY and black tights or wool tights are LOVE.
http://ediblelove.wordpress.com/
I've heard many people rave of the Sally Hansen leg stuff. I suck at spray on fake tanner, so I kind of assumed I'd suck at applying this stuff. Streaky legs aren't cute, but if I can rub this in, I can really see how I could mess it up. I also wondered how natural it looks. I've heard that it looks very matte, but I suppose if you apply shimmery stuff, it's not as matte and therefore gets rid of that problem.Okay, I think you've sold me :P
Ladies...as Goddess Granny's Official Megs weekend roomie...I can attest to her application AS WELL as her results. This technique gave her legs a sexy sheen that had me in awe! ABSOLUTELY beautiful and not an orange streak in sight. It works...TRY IT!MISS YOU GG!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
I've never even seen these products in my local stores--i will have to start looking. I usually bust out my tan towels which work fairly well. I will never have tdf legs bc i played softball for many years and they have been pretty banged up so i usually stick with dress pants/capris etc...so that i don't have to try to "camouflage" my messed up legs...LOL
I now use mineral foundation so i use my old liquid foundation on y legs when i need to (i wore a dress for the first time in years to my fiances "family do" i got loads of compliments on my legs! i also do the whole shimmer down the shins thing i think that makes a big difference, i will definately try the sally hansen though i never bothered because i didnt realise it doesnt trasfer so thought foundation would do as good a job (but obviously foundation can rub off on clothes)I also know a top secret (but not anymore!) tip from a celebrity make up artist i was watching a programme that shows backstage on the sets of music videos and the make up artist said that to get that fabulous sheen on the girls legs they use elizabeth arden 8 hour cream and buff down the shin bone with a chamis leather!!!! try it it works a treat!!!!
I have been using this for several years and could not live without it. I know the advertisements say spray on tan and in every review I have ever read about it someone is complaining about the mess and saying they followed the directions, but I either have a serious reading problem or get defective cans because every one I have ever read says "spray directly on hand, apply to legs" which is what I have always done...except for that time I was sure I was reading it wrong and sprayed directly on my legs. I used a whole can and the only thing evenly tan was my bath tub.I know I am missing something, where does it say to spray it on your legs? I think it would look more airbrushed if you could just spray it on but it is not a fine enough mist for that.
Sending you a huge hug gorgeous indi! I'd LOVE to know what cellulite creme you love as well? Sounds like you truly do know and appreciate the value of great legs! I have always wanted to use such a creme but have no idea where to look first...Sally Hansen's new nail polish, the "Diamond Strength"one with the rhinestone on the front is AMAZING! Does NOT chip, has a great brush, and is very color rich and true...I have the "Deeply Violet" on my toes and every day someone asks about it.I rivals MUCH more $ polishes IMO.Their new "Problem Cuticle Remover" is again,a miracle-product if one is plauged with unruly cuticles (waves hand in air...) a nicely-scented cream that you simply apply and wait 3-5 minutes and voila! The ragged and ratty cuticles are GONE without any effort at all! Comes in a nice little tube that lasts forever...I do my own toes (I love the process) and it really makes short-work of a usually tougher job!
Sally Hanson is one of those companies that's never at the tip of your tongue but they are constantly coming out with great products. It's always new and different and I never hear bad things about it. I would have never thought of using this product, but after this review, maybe i will!
OMG YES!!!! thatnks for reviewing this!!!!I'm only 23 (ugh turning 24 in less than a month!!!!!!!! :S:S:S:S:S)But I have spider lveins and YUCK all over my legs and I hate them!!!!!I also have a really nice tattoo on my lower legs that I would LOVE to show off but my legs are so ugly I wear jeans and long pants year round.... Ocassionally I will venture out and wear... CAPRIs!!!Lol I am seriously going to have to try this!
Tan is Love
This really is an excellent product. The first few times I tried it, I wasn't satisfied with the results, but through trial and error figured out a system that works for me. First, I prep as if I were going to self tan...exfoliate with a scrub in the shower, then moisturize with a light lotion all over my legs, and finally use a heavier one on my knees, ankles and dry spots. After waiting 20 minutes, I spray a mixture of the 2 medium shades into a plastic bowl, blend them (color match is extremely important with this product!), then apply to my legs with a large sponge. You have to work in small batches, because this stuff drys in a nanosecond. The application generally lasts about 3 days for me, if I'm careful not to get soap directly on my legs when I shower, and if I moisturize daily. Applying a sweep of shimmer powder down your shins and the front of your thighs is a must, to avoid the dreaded, overly matte, "corpse leg" look. If you use this on a regular basis, look for it on Ebay, it's usually available there at a deep discount.
Ooops! Forgot to mention, I use Laura Geller Baked Body Frosting in Honey Glow, for my front leg shimmer stripe.
I've always wanted to try one of these "legs-in-a-spray-can" things... but I've never bitten the bullet. I too have pasty white legs that never tan. I'm a bit lazy, so I just make sure that my legs are shaved and smooth. I also use a lotion with shimmer on them, which make them look slightly better than they do when they're bare.
that's a great tip! I'm not sure that I'll use it though, as I have white white white legs, and right now I'm not even comfortable wearing shorts or anything, and the fact that I really don't mind wearing knee highs, lol.. but if/when my legs ever get nice enough that I feel okay with some skin showing, maybe I'll try this out!
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kellyrothermel
Oooh I am convinced. I really want to try this now. I do trapeze so I get some ugly bruises on the back of my knees. And I'm a redhead so pasty white. Can't wait to try it!
I have always wanted to try the Sally Hanson airbrush legs, but backed off due to many disappointments with at-home spray tans. They are just a little too messy and don't last nearly as long as I would like considering what I have to go through to get them that way! If theres a chance that this stuff will look great and last throughout a long night, I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a try! Thanks :)
This sounds amazing!!!!! I think i might just take a trip to walmart or walgreens just for this....seriously.
I can't wait to try this. I've tried so many self tanners, even super expensive ones, but they always look streaky.
Interesting, but I think I'm okay with tights.
Wow! You're right. I'd rather spend 10 minutes on my legs looking fab than wearing pantyhose. Honestly, if my legs don't look presentable I won't wear them out at all. I refuse to wear pantyhose but I'm lucky enough to have nice legs as it is. My mom channels Tina Turner genetics in her legs I swear! And while she didn't pass on 100% of that I worship her for the genes she did in that area. I have heard about the Sally Hansen leg spray quite a but had yet to try it but using a shade enhancer makes complete sense and I can't wait to try it... Thanks Goddess Granny! Genius as usual
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
Thanks for the fabulous review, Goddess Granny! I usually just slap a little lotion on my legs, but they could definitely stand to look more glamorous. I've been wondering about the Sally Hansen airbrush spray for a long time and will definitely have to consider it (and using some of my highlighting powder)... Although I don't know that anyone will see my legs again until next summer (I hate being cold!)
