GET DEFIANT LOCKS SQUEAKY CLEAN!
MissRo here! My Mixed Chicks experience continues. Last time I told you about their amazing Deep Conditioner. Well now, it's all about their Shampoo.
I'm pretty picky about hair care products. When you have naturally curly hair, you can't just use any product. Most of the time I'm looking for anything that tames the frizz. Everything from Shampoo, to Conditioner, to styling products, everything has to smooth out my hair. So, when it comes to shampoo, it has to be conditioning, light weight, and easily washes out of my hair with no residue.
The Mixed Chicks Shampoo is rich and luxurious with a very pleasant smell. It also lathers up nicely and when you wash it out, your hair is squeaky clean and feels very light weight. With a combination of borage seed and avocado oils it provides the perfect amount of conditioning elements so your hair is smooth like silk.
One of the things that is addressed on the Mixed Chicks site about their shampoo, is that they mention "even in the cleanest environments, hair tends to grab dust. Over time, dust and product residue build up and creates a dulling effect" for our hair. I've always known about product build-up, but I never thought about the dust and dirt that floats around our environment and how that might affect our hair. Good point!
What they also mention, which is what I talked about in my last post, was not washing the hair too often. Well, they back up my claim with the same sentiment saying that our natural hair oils help to keep thick and curly hair under control. True, true! They suggest for most hair types to wash your hair twice a week and that should be plenty. For oily hair, I would say three times a week should be enough.
So, of course once you shampoo your hair, you should definitely follow up with their Deep Conditioner. If your leaving your hair curly, use their Leave-In-Conditioner and if not you can use their Hair Silk and then blow dry your hair.
Next up, I'll be trying their Leave-in-Conditioner...stay tuned!
What shampoo do you use? What's your favorite brand? Do you wash your hair everyday and if so why?

I have curly hair also. I am currently using Tresemme Smooth & Silky Shampoo and also their matching conditioner. I love it! I paid $3 for a giant bottle (I think it's 1 liter). It really makes my hair feel alot smoother and silkier, just like the name says. http://www.tresemme.com/sleek/products/smooth-silky-shampoo.aspx

I'm not too picky about my shampoo, I usually use whatever's on sale and smells good at the drugstore, I especially like Herbal Essences. I usually wash my hair every other day, but sometimes I need to every day when I've been working a lot or something.
I'm a bad girl: I use whatever is around!
This makes me wish I had curly hair! I wash my hair every other day and use products that are sls/paraben/cone free
I like Redken. I only wash my hair every other day or else it gets too dry.
i wash it everyday because i just dont feel clean when i dont
I am always on the lookout for new shampoos. Always get bored...
i wash my hair every second day. I pretty much use whatever is there :\ i've never found a staple shampoo, most of them leaves my scalp dry and itchy after a day or two. other than head and shoulders i haven't really found anything else that do my head good at the moment. but my least favourite is pantene, it leaves my head itchy as hell!

Oh really? This is one of the best shampoos I have ever used. I don't want to hear that this just for mixed chicks! I first was told about it a couple years ago and said, "No way I am not a chick, and I am not mixed!" Was I wrong? Yes! They could label this "fro-Jew-juice" and it would do just great cleaning hair. I don't have typical Mixed Chick hair, firstly - not a chick and secondly- I don't think having a dad from Brooklyn and a mother from the Bronx makes me mixed, it kind makes me a Dodger and Yankee Fan, if I liked sports... anyway. I do hope it's Angels and Dodgers that play the World Series so the Red Sox fans can cry over losing Manny (is he still on the Dodgers?) and also so those Philly fans will "congrats" me, for something I couldn't care less about and had nothing to do with. I digress, back to shampoo, which in a Metro way and in my daily life is much more important. I say for everyone to shower with mixed chicks.
I am currently using VO5 moisture milk shampoo and herbal essence (blue bottle) conditioner. I used to wash my hair everyday but in recent months I've cut back to twice a week. My hair seems to look better the less I wash it.
ugh im going to try this brand soon as I sell an organ or two.lol So much stuff I want to buy :( just bought all my plane ticets for the holidays tooits o cause im sure theyll be around for a while.Lately Ive been using bed head shampoos and conditioners. When I color my hair I use purology.I wash my hair usually every other day...sometimes every 3.
I am sooo interested in the leave in conditioner.

im not too picky about my shampoo. if my hair is super oily and weighed down, i'll use a clarifying shampoo. if i'm feeling dry, i use something moisturizing. i think im more critical of the conditioner i use. i mostly just want my hair to feel clean after a shampoo. i'll remedy and ill effects with a conditioner, even if it doesnt match.
The only thing that can revive my hair at this point is a haircut, after that, I'm going to use the Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner. Hope it works out for me! As for the frequency of hair washing, I really feel icky if I don't wash my hair after a day so I can't help it. My scalp gets really greasy quick so any remedies for that?
I have wavy hair. I'm currently using an Australian brand of shampoo, called MooGoo, because I find it very gentle on my scalp, which I can have problems with. I wash my hair around 2 times a week, its quite dry and much more than that really strips it.
Yuck I never thought floating dust would build up on hair.I love kerstase but must try mixed chicks because your hair gets used to the same shampoo over time and doesn't work as well so its good to change them once in a while and my hair is definately defiant so many shampoo and conditioners just leave it dry and flyaway.

I wash my hair about every other day, and I have naturally curly-wavy hair. It that bad? (It's not oily either).
I wash my hair everyday. Iam that kind of person who needs a shower in the morning to start the day. I use Kerastase Bain Satin shampoo, my absolute favourite shampoo. Really good for my fine, normal hair.
I don't have a favorite shampoo. I interchange with 3 different brands/type of shampoo right now -- Sukin purifying shampoo, a SLS/paraben-free orgainic shampoo, Heads & shoulders, tar shampoo. Today I used Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil liquid castille soap (actually bought it to clean my makeup brushes) -- love how it lathers up, and leaving my hair clean and itch free. I have frizzy mixed hair and oily scalp, so I MUST wash and condition my hair every other day. I used to wash it everyday but found that it seem to make my scalp oilier. I wonder if the mixed chick shampoo would be good for oily scalps (but dry hair)??
I love that you're paying so much attention to the curly haired ladies and lads who frequent Megs! Bravo! I'm sure they've all got the most silky, luxurious curls ever now thanks to you! :D
I try not to shampoo hair too often - its so bad for it! I do have to do it once a week though. Conditioner works fine if you don't use any product in your hair. Aussie Moist and Pantene Always Smooth are amazing. I seriously recommend trying em out :)
Because I so love the mixed chicks leave in conditioner that I got from Meg, I just went through the link on this site and ordered some products. I got the trio, shampoo, deep conditioner, and leave-in conditioner, and I saved a buck or two on shipping that way. Whatever it cost, the way it works, it's such a bargain, and I have paid way, way, way more for products that don't deliver. If not for this site, I would have probably never tried it, because I am so tired of paying for products because I feel for their marketing, and then they are no better than any others. This is truly an exception.
i use infusium as my shampoo....so far this has been my favourite brand because it definitely keeps the moisture level up for me, and no i dont wash my hair everyday. Especially since i have "black" hair....doing that would pretty much kill it lol
I currently use a Lush shampoo - either Squeaky Green or Jumping Juniper.I have incredibly, incredibly oily hair so it needs to be washed everyday. I have done that whole 'don't wash your hair and let your hair re-set itself in terms of oil production' but that doesn't change a thing for me, and leaves me miserable and unhappy!I wash everyday or try to use a dry shampoo on the days I don't wash it.These products all seem amazing! It makes me wish I had lovely curly hair.
I do wash my hair everyday, mainly just because my hair gets super greasy. It's so dry on the ends, but I have oily roots. It's awful. The only way to take care of it is to wash my hair everyday. Right now I'm using Matrix Biolage Color care. I don't really have a favorite brand, although, pretty much everything from Dove that I've tried I love. Their line for heat defense/damage is pretty fantastic.I absolutely LOVE the leave in conditioner for this brand. It did fantastic things to my hair!
I'm a devotee of Chagrin Valley's shampoo bars. I don't usually wash my hair every day, more like every other day. I used to absolutely HAVE to wash it every day because it got so limp and oily, but since switching to this brand, I can wait at least a day in between because it balances out my hair and even gives it some nice texture (it used to be STICK straight!). And, it's all natural and I feel really great about supporting an independent business, especially in these tough times!
I'm also a wild and curly girl - and only shampoo about twice a week. On the other days, I may just rinse my hair in the shower and that works fine for me. I know I'm repeating myself but Jessicurl is the best line I've tried for my curly hair. I use the cleansing cream (low lather shampoo), Too Shea conditioner, and Rockin' Ringlets. I have just ordered the deep treatment, and plan to use that every couple of weeks. I hardly ever blow dry my hair... that just encourages it to frizz.

"When you have naturally curly hair, you can't just use any product."Ain't that the truth! To be honest though, I hate when my hair feels "squeaky clean" that means the natural oils have been stripped from your hair, too! And that means tangles and dryness.I wash my hair 1-2x a week.. I might be inclined to try this!

I got this in my meg's gift package and can't be more excited to use it!!

i have fine and straight hair.
Nowadays I use L`oreal Volume shampoo because I`ve got fine hair. However I don`t have a favorite brand, I often change the brand and the product that I use. I usually wash it three times a week.
Ooh this brand sounds lovely! I will have to write it down as a brand to try out! I use garnier fructis right now and do wash my hair every day because skipping a day means oil slicked limp hair or my curls turning into the likes of a bonzai tree. Not cute. So the daily attention to my hair is much needed!
I am so picky about shampoo. Like tothe max. I am going to start trying theseproducts since they seem to all be getting such wonderful reviews:)

I wash my hair every day because it gets so greasy at the roots. I have tried washing every other day, but my roots look and feel so gross and it looks really weird because the rest of my hair looks normal.I would love to hear any helpful ideas for that problem.
I ordered Mixed Chicks shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner...I got them friday and today I gave them a try, I am so happy! My hair feels clean and my curls are well defined. I usually don't use any "leave in conditioners" because they make my hair feel gunky and gross...but Mixed Chicks left my hair feeling "healthy" and its so soft and again my hair feels light and has lots of body, no frizz at all!! I did'nt need a lot of shampoo, the small amount I used lathered up great and washed out easily. I combed the conditioner through my wet hair, my hair is waist length, and I used a minimal amount of the conditioner, in a nut shell...I will stock these 3 gems in my bathroom from now on, they work great, they smell great and my hair looks great...hows that for greatness!! LOL
I use a l'oreal shampoo for blonde hair and i wash my hair every two days ...
I use Kenneth's (a salon brand, when I went in to get my hair cut there two years ago they used it on my hair and I loved it so I bought it), it gets my hair clean without drying it out, and it smells like grapefruit. I'm finally almost out though, so I've been looking around for a new option. As much as I love my Kenneth's, it doesn't make my hair look 'wow', so I'm still on the hunt. This does sound great, just another MC item that I have to add to my cart, lol. I also don't wash my hair everyday because it's curly and colored (ie; dry), and I don't want to dry it out more. I wash it every 3 or so days, it generally looks it's best on the 2nd-3rd day.
